2024 has got to be the year of TES. The first game just turned 30 a few days ago, which is..WOW..impressive. It's quite a milestone for a game.

It’s interesting that there’s no snow elf structures or ruins left in Skyrim (that we know of or see in the games) besides the Chantry of Auri-El. I can see a few reasons why that might be:
From a Doyalist perspective, the game developers just didn’t add any for whatever reason. Maybe they didn’t even consider it, maybe they didn’t have time, maybe they didn’t want two sets of abandoned elf ruins (alongside the dwemer), etc.
The snow elves used building materials that degraded faster or didn’t last thousands of years. Given the Chantry of Auri-El and the way shrines and arches around it have stood relatively in tact for thousands of years without anyone tending to them makes me doubt this option though.
The Nords/Atmorans destroyed any snow elf structures or settlements. This would be plausible if, like the last option, their structures weren’t very big or permanent, but like with the last option that’s sort of doubtful. Dragons, however, could’ve helped with that.
The Nords/Atmorans converted snow elf structures or used them for their own purposes, and now we just can’t tell they were ever something else. Our one reference for snow elf architecture (the Chantry of Auri-El) is made of stone (either built or carved out of the mountain (the cooler option imo)), and perhaps old snow elf ruins were just used as templates for Nord barrows or cities because of their sturdy build and location. There’s a theory I’ve seen floating around that the College of Winterhold either at one point was a snow elf ruin that was converted into something else, or was built on top of one, due to its similar architecture style to the Chantry of Auri-El. Maybe cities like Windhelm or (the original) Winterhold were built on top of snow elf cities.
Perhaps it’s just a mix of the above. Maybe only their important or significant religious structures were built of stone and the rest of was easier for the Nords/Atmorans to raze and then degrade back into the environment. What wasn’t destroyed was eventually incorporated into the Nord’s society as tombs or cities.
And none of this is in the game because the developers maybe perceived the snow elves as just a prerequisite for the falmer, rather than a group of people with a culture of their own. Or maybe for some behind the scenes reason in the development of the game like I mentioned earlier. Who knows.I have fun speculating about it though

Indoril Nerevar: My trusted councilmen have informed me that your Tonal Architect is using the artifact at the heart of Red Mountain in an attempt to fashion a god of artifice. If you wish to preserve the peace of this Council, we order you to cease this blasphemous and profane violation of divinity at once.

Deyr fé, deyja frændr, deyr sjálfr it sama, en orðstírr deyr aldregi, hveim er sér góðan getr. Deyr fé, deyja frændr, deyr sjálfr it sama, ek veit einn at aldri deyr, dómr um dauðan hvern.
If Miraak had to translate it to the modern tongue for anyone, it‘d mean as much as;
Cattle die, kinsmen die, thyself too soon must die, but one thing never, I ween, will die, fair fame of one who has earned. Cattle die, kinsmen die, thyself too soon must die, but one thing never, I ween, will die, the doom on each one dead.
Just two verses of a much larger collection of ancient poetry - such was taught to every atmoran child since their holy ancestors‘ time. They do not understand it however, for what is such poetry to the simple mind of a child?
He himself did not understand his elders words for a long, long time. Only when he finally came of age did he realise that those honeyed words were simply well-worded motivation to stick to what he was taught and not stray from the path of a great, obedient priest.
The true meaning did not matter, really. His father had such a way with words, after all; to drive the stake of fear into his sons heart. He would always find a way to teach his child a valuable lesson, preferably with a whip or his deep, booming growl of a voice.
Being trapped in Apocrypha gave him countless lifetimes to reflect on those words. Of great men and their lives, of their conquests, of superior morality, to heed the lessons taught by ones elders and life.
He memorised every verse, every sentence, every word. He studied the old scrolls of poetry like a scholar, a poet, a critic. He‘d whisper it among himself and the mute Seekers like a mantra.
Until he finally understood their meaning, much too late to aid him in his life -
Gráðugr halr, nema geðs viti, etr sér aldrtrega; oft fær hlægis er með horskum kemr, manni heimskum magi. If Miraak had to translate it to the modern tongue for anyone, it‘d mean as much as; A greedy man, if he be not mindful, eats to his own life's hurt; oft the belly of the fool will bring him to scorn, when he seeks the circle of the wise.
He stopped studying the poems then, more inclined to undo the choices he made in his mortal life; to reclaim all that he had lost, all that was ripped from him.
So he lay down the torn scrolls of parchment, no more gazes cast upon the smeared, eroding ink, and made corrupted gold his new face; he who would defy his master again. He would reclaim his freedom; through blood and death, out of the ashes and dust of his regrets.
Now up! (https://archiveofourown.org/works/52995712/chapters/134067436)

I've been thinking about this for a hot min and I think it's kinda weird Skyrim has a reputation for being dirty?? Like yeah the people can look a little dingy but it's usually those who are outside working hard.
But I think outside of that they'd probably be pretty clean?? Horkers are available in excess like do you think there wouldn't be a portion of their fats being used to make soap by the truckload?? Skyrim would have so much horker soap like come on

The thing about Elder Scrolls lore is that you play the games & it's like. alright. this is a fantasy game. sure there's some things that hint at something a bit strange maybe but it's pretty normal. & then you look into any of the lore on literally anything & you're like ah right so they just let the writers go completely insane with everything then

Avery: *a blind Breton healer* Khash, as much as I appreciate your help, you don't have to hold my hand everywhere we go if you don't want to. I know you like to explore. Besides, I have my familiar with me, I'd be fine.
Khash: Huh? But I like knowing that you're right here. What if you walk too far away and I don't notice and we get separated?
Avery: I can almost guarantee I'd notice your distance before it comes to that, little one. I'm not as helpless as you think, you know.
Khash: I know.. You are very strong. Much stronger than me, but..
Avery: *kneels down and places a hand on the kid's shoulder* You have nothing to worry about. I have lived my whole life without sight. You only worry because you have known me for a short amount of time. I always manage to find my way around.
Khash: Mm.. Promise to use my summon spell if we ever get separated?
Avery: I swear. Now go explore. I heard quite a few woodland creatures scurrying about, I'm sure they'd love to play.
Khash: Okay! Thank you!
Avery: ... Right, shall we do a bit of exploring ourselves then, Styx? *the wolf familiar barks, pressing itself to her side insistently* Hehe. Yes, yes, I know you won't let me get lost.

"The Vestige and Clavicus Vile had peak sexual tension," I say into the mic.
The crowd boos. I begin to walk off in shame, when a voice speaks and commands silence from the room.
“She's right," they say. I look for the owner of the voice. There in the 5th row stands: Barbas himself.

I really hate how many people out there have no idea how game engines work and just talk about engines being reused like it means anything when in reality every game engine used today has been made in 80s and 90s and game devs have been slowly building upon them and improving over time. You don't have to reinvent the wheel every time you make a video game.
People are acting like it means anything that Bethesda's game engine is made out of GameByro's engine, but like... that's an industry standard. Every major company has a new game engine they made out of the scraps of an old, outdated engine.
Valve's Source 2 is made out of what was once the Quake Engine. That's right, the first ever AAA VR game was made in an engine specifically designed for games that look like this
Tumblr media
And you know why? Because they had a dedicated team of talented engineers spend last 20 years slowly upgrading the engine to this point.
What about Rockstar's RAGE? Well Rockstar's RAGE is made out of Angel Game Engine, which was specifically made in 90s to run racing games. Just to make it clear, they made a game without cars in an engine that was specifically made to be used for riding cars. Because just like in Valve's case, Rockstar also had a dedicated team of talented engineers spend last exactly 19 years developing it this point where a race game engine can be used for a video game without any cars.
And let's not even talk about Unreal 5. That one isn't even hard, they been calling it the same thing for 25 years now, just add a new number to it each release.
Nobody makes new engine for every release, they just start implement a few new functions and rename the engine to keep an illusion of it being a brand new engine. The reality is, the only studios that do make new engines are the ones that have only recently gone big, and that means their work isn't any more high quality than the industry giants that have openly been upgrading their 20 year old engines.
