Electric Guest läuten die Kampagne zu ihrem neuen Album mit der Veröffentlichung der Lead-Single „Dollar“ ein. Begleitet wird der soulvolle neue Track von einem unterhaltsamen Feelgood-Musikvideo. Gedreht unter der Regie von Jorma Taccone (The Lonely Island) und mit einem voll einsatzfähigen DeLorean-Hovercraft in einer Nebenrolle, ist das offizielle „Dollar“-Visual jetzt im YouTube-Kanal von Electric Guest zu finden. „Das Video zu ‚Dollar’ war eine echte Familienangelegenheit“, kommentiert Asa Taccone von Electric Guest. „Jeder darin ist entweder ein Kindheitsfreund oder Familienmitglied. Mein Bruder und ich fuhren von L.A. in die Bay Area &und drehten das Video über 5 Tage. Von meinem kleinen Cousin, der Doughnuts in einer Recyclinganlage in Oakland macht, bis zu unserem Freund Matt, der uns in der Bucht von San Francisco sein Hovercraft fahren ließ – alles war ein Gefallen. In dieser ‚Geld ist alles’-Kultur soll der Song eine andere Botschaft vermitteln: du bist selbst dann etwas wert, wenn du nur einen Dollar in deiner Tasche hast.“ „Dollar“ gibt einen Ausblick auf den neuen Sound und Vibe, der von Electric Guests Debütalbum für Atlantic Records zu erwarten ist, das im Oktober erscheint. Die LP markiert das erste Studioalbum des hochgelobten Pop-Duos seit zwei Jahren sowie die erste neue Musik, seit Taccone unlängst einen Grammy für seine Beteiligung als Co-Schreiber und -Produzent von Portugal. The Mans weltweiter Smash-Single „Feel It Still” gewann. Co-produziert von Lars Stalfors (St. Vincent, HEALTH, Foster the People), lassen Taccone und Matthew Compton auf ihrem neuen Album modernen Pop auf ihre eigene, unverwechselbare Sicht der Dinge prallen, indem sie sonnige Soul-Grooves und Kandiszucker-Hooks mit anspruchsvollen Produktionen und einer subversiven textlichen Kraft verschmelzen. „Wir wollten geraden, kompromisslosen Pop machen“, sagt Taccone über das kommende Album. „Wir wollten kein Album machen, das ängstlich oder avantgardistisch ist, ebenso wenig jedoch wollten wir gefühllosen Pop machen.“ Electric Guests jüngste Beiträge zur Pop-Landschaft beschränken sich nicht auf „Feel It Still”. So taten sich Taccone und Compton mit Carly Rae Jepson zusammen, um „Feels Right (Feat. Electric Guest)“ mitzuschreiben und zu co-produzieren, das einzige Feature auf dem hochgelobten neuen Album „Dedicated“ des Popstars. Extrem kreativ in der Zusammenarbeit, haben die beiden langjährigen Freunde in der jüngsten Zeit außerdem Credits auf Tracks von solch unterschiedlichen Künstlern wie Cold War Kids, Amine und Melvv. Auch jenseits kommerziell veröffentlichter Musik haben Taccone und Compton eine lange Vita kreativer Arbeiten vorzuweisen. Taccone, der oft an der Seite seines Bruders Jorma von The Lonely Island arbeitet, hat Musikstücke zu TV-Sendungen wie „Saturday Night Live“, „The Simpsons“ oder „American Dad” beigesteuert und fuhr u.a. bereits eine Emmy-Nominierung ein. Compton hat als begabter Komponist und Musiker die Musik für eine Reihe von Filmen und TV-Projekten geschrieben, außerdem landesweite Werbekampagnen für Activision, Bud Light, Starburst, Lincoln, Nissan und weitere.
