(for Eliot) Betrayal: Has your OC ever been betrayed by someone they thought they could trust? Has your OC ever betrayed someone who trusted them?, Hide: What does your OC hide? Why do they hide it?
-Not-so-nice asks from here-
Betrayal:
I will answer this for GT, because her biggest source of betrayal is from her family and you never meet them in the Bleach AU:
Eliot is the second eldest child to the Rios family, her parents powerful nobles of their country that have many of the scientific institutions there wrapped in their financial fingers. Eliot and her older brother Carlo were meant to take over, and were abused and molded into perfect little Rios children- sort of. Eliot rebelled strongly, but her brother always helped her on her path and tried to shield her from their parents. That is... until one day when he was 17 and Eliot was 12, he snapped, got in a fight with their parents, and left. Eliot was crushed in the vacuum of his absence, and would have cowed to her parents had her aunt not saved her a few years later... only for her to be ripped away again and sold into service with the military (long story). The betrayal of her brother leaving her alone at the mercy of her parents still stuns Eliot to this day. He should have taken her; he shouldn't have left at all. Eliot doesn't know if he's alive or dead, but she does know if he ever sees her again, it's on sight.
Eliot tries to be as upfront as she can be with her position as an indentured scientist. But in her position she also doesn't have a lot of close friends, and no family. She has Gulzar, her best friend, and she has Jack, her girlfriend (who has to leave Eliot behind when they both planned to escape). But she also has her handler, Selephiel, who she'd convinced that she at least liked working under them... until Eliot managed to find her own escape and killed two other Melek and maimed Selephiel to do it. Eliot doesn't consider it a betrayal to Selephiel but she does feel like she betrayed Glulzar by leaving them behind. Much in the way she'd been left behind by her brother and Jack. She tries not to think about it too much.
Hide:
There's not a lot Eliot is able to hide from people; she has very big emotions that she doesn't often bother to keep to herself after years of suppressing them to fit into her family and fall in line. I'm honestly trying to think about what she hides and it's really not... much? There's even a part in her story where she does something really, really bad (stealing a corpse and smuggling a high risk prisoner out to help her) and she SHOULD be keeping that a secret, doesn't, in fact like manically admits the fact to a ton of people and only gets away with it because she's grieving and no one believes her. RIP.

thinking about guard dog characters and attack dog characters. the different ways to protect your people. characters who take the defensive versus the ones who never let it get to that. ones who, when someone bares their teeth, will bare their teeth in return, and ones who need only see the glint of teeth before tearing them limb from limb. it's the difference between "i would die for you" and "i would kill for you." characters who are ready to compromise their life or their morals, who have already made that sacrifice in their mind, who have fangs and claws and are always ready to use them, because ultimately these characters are fundamentally the same: they will protect you, and they will do anything.

One of the only things I'll say negatively about leverage is how they handled parkers Thing in the French connection job. She spends the whole episode talking about how she wants something to enjoy OUTSIDE of the life like eliot has cooking, hardison has gaming, and sophie has theater but then her thing ends up being art which like. Is fine. We know she loves art and shiny things, but the clear answer is music.
She did not stop dead in her tracks in the middle of a con, losing track of time and what she is doing TWICE because she heard her boys performing music, for you to say that music doesn't make her feel things.
She got CAUGHT in the scheherazade job bc she was so enamored with hardisons playing. She was completely caught off guard when they came in the room which is fucking unheard of for her. Don't tell me music doesn't make her Feel Things.

Eliot's role in a con is often that of a regular guy out of his depth and ripe for exploitation. Nate's Very Annoying Guy is already poised to take advantage of the Talented Country Boy, tempting the mark to steal Eliot away for his own use. Eliot is very good at playing this role. Knowing what we know about his past, it may be that he's playing a younger version of himself, unpacking that vulnerability in the safety of the team and using it as a weapon against those who would exploit the character.

-AU Gotei 13 - Grand Kido Chief -
Eliot Rios is the current Grand Kido Chief. Despite being another young captain, Eliot has held the position for many years after the former chief was incapacitated in a training accident. Eliot is considered something of a prodigy in Kido, a title she rejects considering she was nearly 50 years old when she died as a human. She is an incredible scientist, and could have headed the 12th division if she hadn't been so fascinated with the more spiritual, 'magic' science of Kido. She has invented a variety of extremely useful spells, and one spell so dangerous to the user and every single person around them it has been forbidden from ever being used again. Eliot is known as being completely against any kind of authority, an advocate for the lowest and most trod upon demographics. She had a difficult human life, and is stubbornly vocal of even hints of unfair practices. Luckily for Eliot, she's far too skilled and integral to the current structure of the Gotei for anyone to protest against her.

the leverage team would have had a games night… once. everyone cheated so much and in such increasingly extreme ways that all mentions of monopoly are banned in their headquarters (this makes talking about marks who monopolize the market very confusing)
#leverage#nate wouldn’t cheat but he’d be by far the most annoying still. like he’d conduct a whole Scheme to win and give a little monologue wheneve#he made a good move and everyone would want to kill him#parker woukd obvs be stealing money & cards and she’d move their pieces and swap their stuff#but also she’d try to use her turn to rob the bank#sophie would use neurolinguistic programming and dominate the board w properties#which somehow parker would literally never land on and that’s incredibly suspicious but none of them really know how she could possibly be#manipulating that fact? it’s logically impossible bc they’re watching her roll the die and move the piece and sophie knows which properties#she owns so it makes no sense. but parker is parker and she simply will not be caught (even by sophie’s properties)#hardison has studied monopoly theory (yes there are math theories on how to play monopoly) and /tries/ to abide by them but again. sophie i#manipulating him and parker is stealing from him (and sometimes oddly enough *for* him. new money ends up in his bank somehow) so it’s hard#so eventually he resorts to cheating like Everyone Fucking Else and does pretty well bc he rlly does know what sets he wants etc.#eliot is genuinely playing normally. no cheating no math stuff no schemes.#but he’s just sitting there fuming the entire time bc they’re all very obviously messing with the game and he Knew this was gonna happen bu#goddamn hardison & parker especially know how to get on his nerves (often purposely)#he calms down by making some snacks and. resorting to also cheating lol.#leverageposting

Like yes, maybe the NLP tea thing started as revenge (specifically, as Word of God holds, Sophie teasing/"playing" with Eliot), but also consider:
Sophie likes tea
Eliot likes nourishing people
With the NLP, Eliot can make Sophie her tea exactly the way she likes it while the two of them are focused on something else. Efficiency!
He and Sophie have a richer relationship that has been shaped by time and loss, so they likely have an understanding - and have had one for a while - that she really only uses it for tea-like activities
She probably really likes the way he makes her tea!
It's a very Sophie and Eliot kind of way of communicating needs and providing, okay
Really everyone wins
