- Chi è la nuova me?

Which one of y’all wrote this?!?
It’s exquisite!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I’m here for one reason and one reason alone.
Dianna Agron.
You probably know Dianna Agron from “Glee,” or “Shiva Baby,” or being an incredibly hot Jew recently interviewed by Hey Alma. I’ve been a fan of hers since “Glee,” since I watched her sing and dance in a revealing cheerleading uniform. There aren’t many things you can pinpoint with accuracy in your life, but I’m pretty sure I can say this with full confidence: Dianna Agron made me gay.
The crowd is mixed. There are a few groups of young women, one very fashionable young guy. They all have a queer air about them, and I know I’m not just projecting: I can hear their conversations and they are gay.
At first I think most people in attendance tonight will be Gleeks, at least the young ones. I mean, why else would you pay to see Dianna Agron sing at a fancy hotel? That shit’s expensive. Later that night, when I told my friend’s mum I saw jazz at the Carlyle, she told me I got a “real New York experience.” Young people can’t afford that! Unless you’re a dedicated Gleek.
Growing up in 2009 was confusing. I was 14, and being 14 sucked. When “Glee” came along, it was funny and edgy and it was gay. So gay. I say now, only partly as a joke, that “Glee” made me gay. Not in a malicious, gay-agenda kind of way, but more in a “this is the first time I see gay people on screen and now I realize they exist” kind of way. Quinn Fabray, Agron’s character, was my favorite. And that shit was confusing. Quinn was a devout Christian, blonde and blue-eyed and villainous yet infinitely likable. I was drawn to Agron, and her character, in a way I didn’t fully understand yet. Why was I obsessed with this gorgeous, impeccable woman? Why did looking at her make my stomach flutter? I followed Agron from project to project, watching literally anything and everything she appeared in. And that includes an ad for a Nintendo 3DS. I was obsessed. And unknowingly, I was very gay.
Dianna Agron is late, by almost 15 minutes.
I’ve got nothing to do but scan the room. I’m not sure why older people are here. The folks next to me are middle-aged and seemingly heterosexual. There are elderly people at the bar across from me. There are finance guys with their done-up girlfriends. Middle-aged couples with their 20-something daughters. Queers. Me. A woman reading the Wall Street Journal. A regular swapping family updates with the bartender.
This is the power of Dianna. She brings us together.
Dinner and a show at the Carlyle seems like it exists in a different era, like I’ve stepped into a portal and come out into 19-dickety-2. Dianna has that vibe, too. That old school charm, the timelessness to her features. Like you could find her likeness in a Buzzfeed article titled “25 Pictures of Bona Fide Ellis Island Hotties.” She wouldn’t look out of place in furs and a fancy cigarette holder. I realize I’ve just described Cruella de Ville. I guess that’s my epitome of old school fancy. I try to lean in.
I order a gin and tonic and it is mostly gin. I’ve barely eaten all day and my head is starting to spin. It’s either the alcohol or my body can sense that Dianna is near.
Finding out celebrities are Jewish is always weirdly exciting. Finding out Dianna Agron is Jewish when I was 14 was like finding out Santa is real and also he’s your distant cousin. Sure, there was absolutely no reason for our paths to ever cross; the chances of successful-actress-who-lives-in-L.A. Dianna Agron meeting me, a kid from Australia who attended an all girls’ Chabad school, were literally zero. But when I realized we were both Jewish, anything felt possible: a Shabbat meal we miraculously both attend, a performance of “Fiddler” on Broadway where we happen to sit next to one another. The Jewish world is impossibly small, and by some strange twist of fate, we are both in it.
It never happens, of course. No Shabbat, no random meet-cute. The closest I get is my friend meeting her in a cafe in Jerusalem a few years ago. I think it’s for the best. Imagine getting close enough to Dianna Agron that you could talk to her; I don’t think I’d be able to cope.
I come within mere inches of Dianna Agron.
She enters the room and stands right next to me, waiting for her musical cue. Her band has already taken the stage (her violinist and cellist are HOT. Like, hot hot). Wall Street Journal Lady is watching the stage, asks me if she’s obstructing my view of the band. She literally does not realize Dianna Agron is standing right next to us. Literally, right next to us. Like I could reach out and tap her on the shoulder and ask if she comes here often.
Thank God I’m wearing a mask, I decide, as Dianna takes to the stage and starts to sing. Otherwise everyone would be able to see this dumb fucking smile that stays on my face for the rest of the night.
I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t listen to a lot of jazz. Up until this night, my favorite jazz is H. Jon Benjamin’s comedy album. But now I love jazz. Jazz is the best. It suits Dianna’s voice so perfectly. I think it’s absolutely criminal that all those years on “Glee” and she didn’t sing any jazz. She sang a funk song, but no jazz. She sang showtunes, but no jazz.
A crime. A crime against humanity and Dianna Agron stans.
Her voice has a sultry quality, and that is the first time I’ve ever used that word. She hits low notes in a way that hits me straight in the chest. She scrunches her nose as she smiles in a way that I recognize from online performances I’ve obviously watched before.
When your personality is formed by pop culture, seeing a celebrity almost feels like seeing an old friend. I know, logically, this isn’t true; Dianna Agron does not know me, and I do not know her. But I know a version of her, the version she puts on in interviews. When she laughs throughout the show, I know that laugh. I’ve seen the smile she throws at the audience dozens of times before. This is what this is, at its core, I decide. Old friends. A whole room of them, watching their queen bee.
Dianna doesn’t look like a lot of the Jews I know. It’s something the Jewish media loves to talk about, somewhat saltily. Dianna Agron, always the non-Jewish bridesmaid and never the bride under the chuppah. Obviously, I first knew her as Quinn Fabray, noted Christian, who bullies Jewish Rachel Berry with a merciless quality some may describe as “small-town antisemitism.” More recently, Agron’s character in “Shiva Baby” is the only non-Jewish character in the whole movie. There’s also that time she played a nun in one of the greatest (and gayest) nun films of all time, “Novitiate”. And who could forget when she played famous Mormon Brandon Flowers’ girlsona in the “Just Another Girl” music video? OK. I’ll stop showing off my impressive Dianna Agron knowledge now.
I’ve spent a lot of time in my life considering what it means to look like a Jew. As a woman, I never had to grow peyos, or wear a kippah and tzitzit like the boys did. My dad would cover his kippah with a baseball cap if we wandered too far from home, and my brother quickly learned to do the same. For a long time, the only way I felt identifiably Jewish was by the knee-length skirts that screamed “Modern Orthodox.” But I stopped wearing skirts years ago. The Chabad boys handing out Shabbat candles in New York only offered me some because I stopped to ask them for directions.
In the Carlyle, there’s nothing that demarcates me as “Jew.” I could, for all intents and purposes, choose to play the role of “non-Jew” for this evening’s performance. But I say a bracha (blessing) before I sip my drink. I read a d’var torah while I wait for the show to begin. And I think, somewhat simply, that actors are not the roles they inhabit.
A waiter brings a cake with a candle into the crowd, and Dianna wishes the recipient a happy birthday. Her crowd work throughout is amazing. She laughs and smirks. I remember I am gay, very gay. At one point she turns her back to the audience and throws us a look over her shoulder. My automatic internal response is “step on me.” At another moment, she tells the audience that she and the band “like applause,” and my internal voice says, “OK, Rachel Berry.” She sings “Our Day Will Come,” which was performed on season six of “Glee,” an episode that she didn’t even appear in. Still, my hand flies to my chest as I hear echoes of the “Glee” version, echoes of Naya Rivera and Darren Criss (the latter who, incidentally, I met after the show. Wild).
I wonder how hard it must be to divorce herself from “Glee,” and from the type of fandom and fans it has spawned. When you have something as big, as iconic and divisive and culturally groundbreaking, attached to your name, it must be hard to feel as though you’re maturing as a performer. Do you expect your fans to mature along with you? Do you expect to pick up more on the way?
There’s no doubt in my mind that Dianna is picking up fans tonight. WSJ Lady is all in, as are the other bar regulars. Who better to spread the gospel of Dianna than Dianna herself?
Her pianist is Jewish, it turns out, and so is her drummer. She doesn’t, like, announce it or anything, but their names are Eden and Itai, so I kind of figure it out, you know?
She tells us she found her drummer on Instagram, scrolling casually.
And yet here I remain — with several mutuals, I might add — unfollowed, Ms. Agron. What’s up with that?
My notes get fewer and farther between from this point on. I’m a few drinks in, the room is too dark and I’m too mesmerized by what’s happening on stage. But here are some important things to know:
she sang in French
her mom cried and she called her out for it
she made a playlist of the songs she performed on Spotify because of course she did
she sang an Eartha Kitt song after the audience demanded two encores
she is wonderful.
Two things happen concurrently. I steal a pen from the hotel bar, and Dianna starts to sing “Moon River.” Without sounding like a crazed stalker, for a single moment in time, she’s singing to me. It might sound pathetic, it might sound insane, but here’s the truth of the matter:
In that moment, I am 16 again. I barely know anything about myself — I’m years away from coming out, and it’s something I’ve chosen to compartmentalize and never think about. I don’t know who I am, I just know who I don’t want to be. But through it all, there’s this person who has a Tumblr she posts on regularly, and she’s on my favorite TV show every week, and she’s pretty in a way that feels normal and Not Gay to obsess over.
Dianna sings “Moon River.” In that moment, as the last bars of the song play, I hold onto 16 as hard as I can.
Here’s the crux of the whole night. I know, when she exits the stage, she has to pass me again. I know. I deliberate all night whether to say, “Thank you, Ms. Agron,” like an absolute fool or stay quiet or what.
Obviously I go with the fool route. She rushes past me. I say thank you, not unlike a kindergartener being forced to thank their parents’ friend for something. She laughs. She says thank you to me.
There you have it. Mission accomplished. I have spoken to Dianna Agron one time.
Am I a changed person? Obviously not. I am who I was at the start of the night, just significantly drunker and with a new pen.
The WSJ lady asks me how I enjoyed it, and I tell her very much so. She also loved it. I ask her if she can airdrop me the videos she took throughout the night (even though we were told not to video!!!) and she says, “Of course!” so now I have the videos on my phone. I sent them to my friend who loves “Glee” just as much, if not more, than I do. But I don’t watch them. Why would I watch them when I experienced the magic first hand?
The Kotzker Rebbe once said that silence is the most beautiful of all sounds.
Clearly he never went to a Dianna Agron jazz show.

(The “Us” team declined to name who finished up the mix.) “We struck it down to where we had just a bit of the lyrics and some tones, added in our own effects, and then hired composition companies to help fill those in,” Wees said. (On March 8, the day “Us” had its premiere at SXSW, the duo released a revamped version of the track, “ I Got 5 on Us,” with a video inspired by the film.) Fittingly, the Nightmare Time theme song opens with the seven notes of that lyric. “I’ll give you a hint: They’re definitely around what’s going on with the movie,” said Luniz’s Jerold Ellis, 44, the rapper known as Yukmouth. A second season was announced in October 2021 and the weekly episodes. Linking up with Tone Capone the following year, Luniz helped usher in the Bay Area’s “Mob Music” sound - slow, brooding, 808-drum-machine-driven grooves often known as “slumpers.” The duo’s 1995 debut, “Operation Stackola,” went platinum on the strength of “I Got 5 on It.” Follow-ups in 19 didn’t reach the same heights, and the duo split around 2005, reuniting in 2015 for a mixtape called “High Timez.” In 2018, it released an EP, “No Pressure,” and it’s currently working on new singles. “It was the best thing, besides my children being born, I had ever heard,” he said in a phone interview.įor many younger rap fans, this was their first encounter with Luniz, who originally formed as the LuniTunes in 1992. Luniz’s Garrick Husbands, 43, known as Numskull, said he was ecstatic to learn the song would be included in the film’s promotion.

Neon
Neon colors percolated in 2018 in accessories and streetwear, and they are set to explode in 2019 as luxury players like Prabal Gurung, Brandon Maxwell and Off-White give the intense hues red carpet approval. The colors—mostly neon yellow and green—play up the nostalgic feeling of other ’90s items like mini backpacks, cropped jean jackets and bike shorts, while adding an instant cool factor to contemporary sportswear. The throwback color scheme also lends itself well to the growing category of Instagram-worthy travel wear. Expect to see fast fashion retailers go wild for neon this spring/summer.
Tie-dye
DIY’ers are in luck. Tie-dye, that youth-driven trend that remerges every 20 years or so, is spiraling back into fashion in 2019 but with a designer touch. A symbol of slacker style, disenchanted youth and activism, the trend sums up the independent spirit of Gen Z and millennial consumers. And with designers like Louis Vuitton and MSGM offering the psychedelic print, we expect tie-dye to further fuel the market’s obsession for highbrow versions of street, surf, skate (and every other recreational activity in between) style.
Mini backpacks
The mini backpack—the accessory made famous by Cher Horowitz and her squad in the ’90s teen film Clueless—proves good things come in small packages. Consider the mini backpack as the offspring of two major accessories trends from 2018: the backpack and the fanny pack. Both bags filled the gap in demand for more traditional fashion styles like totes and satchels. Plus, functional as it is fashionable, mini backpacks offer brands a petite canvas to play with other ’90s trends like neon colors, logos and leopard print.
Lingerie as daywear
Silky camisole tops, spaghetti strap slips and baby doll dresses were de rigueur of teen girl idols of the ’90s. The “Lolita” look was worn by everyone from Drew Barrymore and Courtney Love, to most of the Spice Girls. However, the lingerie-inspired trend is updated for 2019 through a more mature lens. The silhouettes remain the same, but designers are ditching cutesy frills and ditzy prints in favor of sophisticated transparent layering and silk for daytime.
Track suits
With athleisure being a bona fide fashion category, it’s not surprising that ’90s-style track suits are the next sport-inspired trend to infiltrate street style. The suits—be it the classic three stripes, color blocked windbreakers or logo emblazoned sets—were the de facto comfort uniform in the ’90s for teens, boybands, suburban moms and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. And the design hasn’t changed much over the years. Comfort remains a top priority, as well as oversized silhouettes, unisex design and statement color. Expect to see designers elevate the leisure look for night with satins and silks.
Goth
The styling of ’90s goth rocker Marilyn Manson is tame compared to today’s standards of shock fashion, but back then the verdict was still out on black latex, ripped hosiery and cross-dressing. In 2019, however, goth fashion returns in the form of dominatrix-like black leather jackets, black lace and combat boots with platform soles. The trend is already trickling into denim through superfluous hardware and chains. And expect to see vintage concert and band tees featuring the likes of Manson, Korn and Nine Inch Nails gain popularity (and value) in 2019.
Platform shoes
The platform shoe belongs to several decades and subcultures. However, the iteration from the ’90s, a black chunky sole black boot, oxford or Mary Jane (often with a curved heel) is the one to keep an eye on in 2019. The shoe is part of the goth uniform and a coquettish accoutrement for the lingerie as outerwear trend. And after several seasons of sensible block heels and comfortable flats, Junior’s and women’s fashion shoes are eager for a lift.
Leopard print
Leopard print still has bite. The animal print left its mark on ’90s fashion through trends like goth, furry coats and even zoot suits, which regrettably swung into style toward the end of the decade. And despite being a top-selling trend in 2018, leopard print secures its place in 2019 as both a neutral and fashion statement redone in untraditional colors like neon yellow and red.
Polo shirts
The polo shirt is an antidote to this year’s flurry of brash trends. In 2019, the polo can swing one of two ways: as a fitted basic with a tongue-in-cheek nod to classic, preppy Ralph Lauren, or as an oversized, logo-adorned shirt that harkens back to urban fashion in the ’90s. And there’s a polo for everyone, from the classic pique, to trendier updates like a knit mesh and chiffon.
Flare jeans
Flare jeans, which were basically reincarnated bell bottoms from the ’70s, were a staple with young Hollywood in the ’90s. And it’s the same group that is bringing the trend back to life in 2019, but with fewer bells and whistles. Look for clean washes, minimal distressing and a higher rise to give the jeans a modern look.
Black and white
If you were a pre-teen or teenage girl in the ’90s, you’ll likely remember the black and white dress that both Brenda Walsh and gasp Kelly Taylor wore to the spring dance on 90210. The “who wore it better” moment is ingrained in ’90s fashion history and exemplifies one of the more refined ways ’90s kids wore black and white together. From Vans’ checkerboard prints to the wide leg striped pants sold by ’90s-era retailers like Delia’s and Contempo Casuals, the color combo served several unforgettable sartorial moments that are being recreated in 2019 by fast fashion retailers like Zara and Asos.
Versace style
The decadent world of Versace is a playground for fearless fashionistas in 2019. In recent seasons, the Italian fashion house has revisited archival pieces from its iconic ’90s collections, inspiring ladies and gents to embrace their inner Donatella or Gianni. It’s a simple formula to follow: vivid colors, opulent prints, gold and sex appeal. Expect to find this trend in women’s dress, men’s shirting and swimwear, where the flavor of South Beach is always in style.
Bike shorts
The bike short has come a long way. The second-skin short was an outrageous style in the ’90s, yet it has somehow found itself on the cusp of being acceptable fashion in 2019. Social media is likely to thank, or blame, for its comeback. With celebrities like Gigi and Bella Hadid adopting the trend in its early stages, consumers have become acclimated with swiping and liking the sporty garb. And with styles as colorful and shiny as ever, the bike short is may be the single ’90s trend that has come back less refined as its predecessor.
Embellished denim
Depending on which end of the decade you want to examine, embellished denim in the ’90s skewed either chintzy with homemade embroideries and fabric paint, or glitzy with rhinestones and crystals glued to seams, pockets, shoulders and collars. In 2019, denim brands borrow a little from both worlds, offering jeans with subtle splashes of sparkle and details that feel handmade and personal. The goal, however, remains the same: to stand out in a sea of blue.
Flannel
Marc Jacobs sealed grunge’s fate when he announced in November that he would reissue his iconic Spring ’93 collection for Perry Ellis. Grunge was back, bringing along with it a new spotlight on baby doll dresses, beanies, combat boots and the hallmark of all grunge looks—flannel. Expect to see oversized plaid flannel shirts serve as a protective layer during festival season and carry into the fall season for both men and women.
Bodycon
When Herve Leger designed the bandage dress in 1989, he created the template for form-fitting dresses that designers to this day still follow. Fortunately for Leger, the birth of the dress coincided with the rise of the supermodel, who would become natural muses for the figure-hugging silhouette during the decade. In 2019, the Kardashians and retailers like Fashion Nova are putting bodycon dresses back on the radar, updating the shapely silhouette with liquid-like fabrics, shimmering metallics and intense colors.

Gunning for $1.79M, art-bedecked Midtown bungalow includes bona fide backyard oasis
Tumblr media
Lush grounds begin in the front at 900 Penn Avenue NE. | Photography by Adam Ellis, Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty
It wouldn’t be the most expensive home ever sold in Midtown, but it’d be close
Big-budget intown homebuyers looking to make a splash in almost every conceivable way—including literally—could find a Midtown Shangri La in this modernized 1920s bungalow with a true oasis around back.
Marketed as both “completely renovated” and “exceptional,” the arty three-bedroom a couple of blocks south of Piedmont Park listed at $1,785,000 last month with Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty.
Achieving that price would make this 3,592-square-footer the third-highest Midtown home sale of all time.
The single-family record-setter came in May on nearby 9th Street, where a thoroughly updated 1916 traditional bagged $1.88 million (also notching the highest price per square foot, at more than $497).
That sale eclipsed the neighborhood’s previous $1.789 million high-water mark, set in November 2017 by a much newer home reminiscent of France, also on 9th Street.
What warrants such lofty ambitions on Penn Avenue? (The per-square-foot breakdown, it’s worth noting, would also be about $497.)
Tumblr media
Off the entry, an office, living space, and the dining room.
Landscaping is rather fantastic, front to back, and summers spent beside that watering hole (with spa) would not be shabby. Inside, rooms are large and refined, and the pro-grade kitchen brings an eight-burner Viking range and wine cellar.
Four fireplaces are found around the home.
The driveway parking and bathroom count for such a roomy house (two and a half) could be minuses, but the luxe aspects are real. This include the “highest tech” sound implanted both indoors and out, and landscape lighting.

The dual-sink kitchen.

Moving deeper into the home, the party-ready wet bar area has banquette seating, a wine fridge, and ice maker.

Splashy light fixtures continue in the master bedroom upstairs, which has a curtained-off siting area, a double dose of walk-ins, and a rooftop terrace.

Royal wedding countdown: Princess Eugenie's bridal party has been revealed
New Post has been published on https://harryandmeghan.xyz/royal-wedding-countdown-princess-eugenies-bridal-party-has-been-revealed/
Royal wedding countdown: Princess Eugenie's bridal party has been revealed
Tumblr media
Move over Harry and Meghan, now your day is done and dusted, it’s time to focus on the next royal wedding of 2018.
Princess Eugenie and her fiance Jack Brooksbank will tie the knot on October 12th at St George’s Chapel in Windsor and as the date draws ever closer, we’re getting a few more details, including who will be walking up the aisle with the bride.
While Princess Eugenie has some very famous friends including singer Ellie Goulding and actress/Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas, we doubt they’ll be in her bridal party. That’s because unlike us commoners, royals typically have a bridal party made up of children as the page boys, bridesmaids and flower girls rather than their adult friends and family members.
While we expect Princess Beatrice will have a featuring role in the wedding much like Pippa Middleton did on Duchess Catherine’s big day, here’s a cheat sheet on the little ones escorting Princess Eugenie up the aisle. And one has a very famous, musical dad.
Theodora Rose Williams
The five year-old daughter of singer Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field, nicknamed Teddy, will be one of the bridesmaids at the wedding ceremony. Well that’s one celebrity guest we’ve definitely heard of.
According to The Mail on Sunday, Robbie and Ayda have been friends with both Princess Eugenie, 28, and her sister Princess Beatrice, 29, for some years.
Now to wait and see if Robbie say, “Let Me Entertain You” and perform at the reception.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte
Tumblr media
The two eldest Cambridges will certainly make an appearance.
The two eldest children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are well-rehearsed at this whole bridal party thing. Not only did they escort Aunty Pippa down the aisle at her wedding to James Matthews in 2017, but Prince George and Princess Charlotte stole the show at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May.
In fact, Charlotte is a good bridesmaid to have on hand. According to People, a royal wedding guest said that she kept the other children in line at Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
“There was one girl who wanted to go and she said, ‘No you can’t go yet. We have to wait until we are asked.’ She was really organised!”
“She looked very happy and content to be there!”
Maud Windsor
Tumblr media
That school uniform looks familiar!
Four-year-old Maud, the daughter of Lord Frederick Windsor and his actress wife Sophie Winkleman will also be one of the bridesmaids. Maud’s grandparents are Prince and Princess Michael of Kent (yes, the one who wore THAT brooch), and as Prince Michael is the Queen’s cousin, Maud is a distant relation of Princess Eugenie’s.
And Maud have a familiar face with her, she is in the same class as Prince George at Thomas’s School in Battersea. We thought we recognised that school uniform!
Louis de Givenchy
Tumblr media
What a picture perfect family!
Prince Louis may be a bit young for the wedding, but there will be another little one with the same name in attendance.
Six year-old Louis is the son of Olivier de Givenchy, a French senior banker at JP Morgan, and his Australian wife Zoe. This couple are also friends with Robbie and Ayda so everyone will be in good company.
Only three months until the big day!
Tumblr media
We can’t wait to watch these two say “I do.”

[Fuente]

The news is generally stressful and depressing right now, but today there’s a royal wedding happening: Princess Eugenie, Prince William and Prince Harry’s 28-year-old cousin and the ninth in line to the British throne, just married Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel. Royal weddings are certainly not free of complicated politics, but they’re also fun to ogle. In typical fashion, today’s wedding featured a detailed and very large gown, some jaw-dropping diamonds, and a ton of British celebrities wearing over-the-top hats.
Who was there? What did they wear? Let’s dive in!

Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos, the designers behind the British brand Peter Pilotto. Though the label is known for its vivid prints, Princess Eugenie went for a traditional white gown with a full skirt, long sleeves, and a neckline that folded over the shoulders to create a low back.
Classic as the dress is, there are some interesting design details here. The first is that revealing back, which, with Princess Eugenie’s updo, highlighted the long scar running down her spine. That was intentional, according to the Kensington Palace website: “The low back feature on the dress was at the specific request of Princess Eugenie who had surgery aged 12 to correct scoliosis.”
Though they were working in white, Pilotto and de Vos still put their talent for prints to use. Woven into the dress’s fabric are a variety of symbolic plant motifs. There’s thistle for Balmoral Castle in Scotland, one of the royal family’s homes; a shamrock for the Ferguson family’s Irish roots; the York rose; and ivy, “representing the couple’s home.”
This feature recalls Meghan Markle’s wedding look. When Markle married Prince Harry in May 2018, the design of her veil featured flora from all 53 Commonwealth countries, along with wintersweet for Kensington Palace and California poppies for her home state.

Like Markle, Princess Eugenie styled her wedding dress with a blingy heirloom on loan from the queen: the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, which was crafted in 1919. We’re talking diamond pavé set in platinum, plus six emeralds, all constructed in the style of the Russian Imperial Court.

As expected, the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex did not overshadow the bride. Kate Middleton wore a raspberry-hued Alexander McQueen dress to Princess Eugenie’s wedding, and Meghan Markle wore a streamlined navy Givenchy coat dress.
Each woman has come to be associated with the brand she wore: Middleton chose McQueen for her own wedding in 2011 and wore a (repeat) McQueen outfit for Markle’s nuptials. Meanwhile, Markle selected custom Givenchy for her wedding ceremony in May and has made multiple public appearances in the French brand, currently helmed by the British designer Clare Waight Keller.

In addition to the usual royal suspects, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding brought out a swarm of celebrities. From the entertainment world, there were faces like Liv Tyler, who, according to Australia’s Nine Network celebrity site, “may run in similar circles as the royals”; Demi Moore, “a longtime friend of Eugenie’s parents,” according to Us; James Blunt, who served in the army with Prince Harry; and Ellie Goulding, who performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

The British fashion contingent was out in full force, too. Naomi Campbell wore a sculptural fascinator, black leather gloves, and a feathered Ralph & Russo dress, while Kate Moss and her daughter Lila (newly a model herself) wore matching veils.

Two of Prince Harry’s exes, Cressida Bonas (in a blue dress) and Chelsy Davy (going for broke in a pale blue jumpsuit, newsboy cap, and furry clutch), turned up to the event, too.

Perhaps the best-dressed person of the day, however, was the British model and actress Cara Delevingne, who wore an impeccably tailored Armani tuxedo and a Chanel top hat. She also accessorized with a toothpick dangling from her mouth.

A tough call. Either Poppy Delevingne, who wore a tall, fluffy fascinator that made her look a bit like a high-fashion peacock, or the mother of the bride, Sarah Ferguson, whose razor-sharp hat looked like it could take out an eye.

5 Legit Ways To Look Good In A Tracksuit

5 Legit Ways To Look Good In A Tracksuit
In hindsight, this was inevitable. Ever since Mad Vlad Putin was snapped pumping iron in a pair of £2,000 Loro Piana joggers, we’ve been moving inexorably to the day when men could wear matchy-matchy sportswear for activities other than rolling snitches into the East River. To Armie Hammer in Adidas Originals, 2 Chainz in full-look Gucci and Alex Turner in his bespoke, baby blue number from Aussie designer Ray Brown.
It’s a weird and wonderful world, but we’re onboard. Menswear offers up its share of ridiculous trends, but few that have comfort so baked in. And as with almost everything we wear these days, you can thank rap for that. “The tracksuit trend partly stems from the rise of the word ‘cozy’ as an adjective in terms of a clothing aesthetic, from around 2013 onwards,” says Andrew Brines, buyer at Oki-Ni.
For proof, peep the A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes, the first of which opens with an ode to being, “sweatsuited up […] terry cloth and all that shit”, before flipping rap’s normal braggadaccio script as Juicy J and A$AP Rocky do battle over whose wardrobe is snuggliest. “Came through with the real good, goose-down bubble jacket with the snow boots […] Outfit so fly, fell asleep before he left the house.”
The tracksuit is that sentiment dialled up, a flex that says you’re so beyond dress codes, expectations, social decorum, that coziness is all you care about when perusing your wardrobe of a morning. As Seinfeld’s George Costanza once dreamed, “I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable.” Thanks to hip hop and Alessandro Michele, two decades on, it is.
A few trends converge in the tracksuit, the big one being athleisure, which has morphed from wearing Air Max with your suit into going to work dressed like a football coach. But there’s also fashion’s current obsession with the 70s and the 90s, two decades that saw sportswear transcend, y’know, sport, and grime’s second wind, which saw kids in trackies take over the charts.
Because, of course, tracksuits never left – they were just out-of-bounds once they’d become the uniform for weed-slinging kids round the back of the supermarket. Until, at the turn of the 2010s, they inspired a slew of men who were suddenly sick of their double-monks to dress all the way down, to distinguish themselves from all those (other) Pitti poseurs.
“Menswear entered a new phase, dominated by synthetic materials, sportswear and the notion of being comfortable in one’s clothes,” says Brines. “But tracksuits’ popularity didn’t happen overnight.” First came luxury cozy, courtesy of Tomas Maier at Bottega Veneta, which trickled-down and morphed from cashmere into polyester. As designers sought ways to keep pushing the envelope, we got side-stripe trousers, drawstring suits and finally, inevitably, a wholesale embrace of the head-to-toe tracksuit.
That said, we’re still near the bleeding edge here and the full-look look is riddled with tripwires. “For a first step, wear it as separates,” says Brines. “Second, don’t wear tight-fitting trousers. Some of the 70s poly tracksuits form the outline of one’s genitalia and no one wants to see that.” Channel that roomier, 90s silhouette instead. Thirdly, expect to weather comparisons to Tony Soprano.
Five tracksuit looks to try
The Off-Duty Athlete
OK, sure, you’re not actually going to wear your tracksuit for sport. But brands with sweat in the DNA have attempted to de-ridiculise them by cleaving tight to their OG function. Tommy Hilfiger and Perry Ellis went all Olympian in their SS17 collections, with red, white and blue tracksuits that would look as good in the garden or parading around an opening ceremony. The trick here is to wear yours with other sporty-not-sportswear staples, like trainers you’d never take near a treadmill, or plain black hoodies in fabrics too nice to spoil in a gym. Just steer clear of the sweatbands, Chas Tenenbaum.
Logomania
Fashion’s current penchant for putting logos on any available surface has found particular fruit in the tracksuit, since for canny designers it’s basically a head-to-toe block of background. Gucci’s versions are particularly egregious, unless you’re a fan of interlocking Gs covering your entire body, but down near the accessible end you can embrace similar branding by taping legs and arms in Adidas’ stripes, or Nike’s swoosh. The sportswear boom’s also been manna for so-terrible-they’re-cool-again brands; if you want to rep your love for Kappa, Ellesse or Sergio Tacchini, you’re spoilt for choice.
The Streetwear Suit
If you’ve got the leisure time to spend your Wednesday queuing outside Supreme, odds are you don’t own an actual suit. The tracksuit fills the gap, offering as much clout as something from Savile Row did for your dad, for a (slightly) more reasonable price. Supreme’s the don, of course, although best get your bots ready to stand any chance of copping both parts. But Palace’s hook-ups with Adidas, or premium spins from brands like LA’s Palm Angels and Japanese brand Needles (which was among the first to tap the trend, back in 2014), are ideal anytime you need to stunt on some fuccbois.
Retro Sportswear
Think Run DMC then, or Armie Hammer now, who until he retired the look this year had 70 in rotation. It’s all about brands with on-the-pitch cred – Nike, Adidas, Umbro – worn in ways that say, “I could do a Cruyff turn right now but I’ve got places to be.” To pull this off, it helps to have a body that backs that statement up – if you’re carrying a few extra then this look quickly tips into Mafia not-quite-made man.
The Influencer
Part of the tracksuit’s appeal is how tapped out it looks from the concerns of everyday men. In a world in which you can wear anything to work, odds are you still can’t wear a tracksuit. So for anyone who does, because their work entails posting to Instagram from a private jet, the tracksuit is a badge of honour, a sign that you exist on a different plane. For this to work, your tracksuit needs to cost more than an actual suit – Gucci is the go-to, but Balenciaga also does a neat line in logo-emblazoned, first-class-loungewear. Accessorise with a selfie stick and then boast about your air miles.
The Best Tracksuit Brands
Adidas
Why look further? The three stripes’ tracksuits spent the 00s propping up Sports Direct, but are now a legit choice for drill crews, the Made In Chelsea cast, and anyone in-between. If your tastes lean towards the former, make like Skepta and wear yours black, ideally with murdered-out logo. If you want something that’s going to pop on Instagram, then look to its collabs with brands like Alexander Wang and Gosha Rubchinskiy.

Kappa
Quite how Kappa went from forgetting to celebrate its own centenary in 2016 to collaborating with what-how-much? brands like Marcelo Burlon County of Milan, we’ll never know. But either way, the Italian sportswear brand is riding high again (at least until the tracksuit bubble bursts). You don’t have to pay designer prices to cop some of that cred, though; in the UK at least, the brand’s been on fumes so long that wearing one of its standard logo-striped sets lends you look that mix of irony, nostalgia and in-the-know that’s so hot right now.
Buy Now: £25.00
Lacoste
With all its sportswear bona fides, Lacoste’s tracksuits are the kind you could wear while warming up before the French Open, but the brand’s Gallic flair mean they pair just as well with a glass of chablis once the game’s over. Go for plain(ish) shades and your tracksuit will work just as well as separates, which doesn’t just give it extra life, but also means that you can break it out on those days that the full look feels a touch OTT.
Buy Now: £190.00
Cottweiler
Tailor of choice to Skepta, FKA Twigs and Jamie XX, Cottweiler is the thinking man’s tracksuit brand. That’s because designers Ben Cottrell and Matthew Dainty approach sportswear with love, reimagining the clothes they wore as kids in space-age fabrics and novel new details, like elastic-cinch sleeves of sheer panels. While other brands are content to make silk joggers and stick a four-figure price tag on, in Cottweiler’s hands they evolve. If it turns out sci-fi was right and we all end up in jumpsuits, we can imagine Cottweiler crafting them.
Buy Now: £365.00
Palm Angels
LA’s hottest streetwear brand is half California surfer, half Soho House-resident creative. Its tracksuits nail that nexus with louche cuts that you could slip on straight out of the sea, in fabrics you’d never allow near saltwater. It’s not a brand for wallflowers – head-to-toe prints on offer this season include camo, tartan and palm trees, while block colour-fans can step out in lavender or hot pink. With fans like A$AP Rocky and Migos’s Offset, they come with swag by the bucket.
