note: well…long time, no see
“Marry me, baby.”
Cynthia’s hands released the utensils they held. A loud clatter ricocheted off the decorated walls of the dining room. The curls upon her head curtained her eyes, but they were blown wide in shock. Slowly, she tuned to the left. Her eyes found his baby blues, which were filled with hope as he descended onto one knee.
In his hand was a black velvet box. He pulled the cap back to reveal the most piece of jewelry she’d ever seen. And, it was authentically her. She’d expressed to him that as she’d gotten older, she found an indescribable beauty in the color green. Cynthia was well-aware that he was attentive; she just never knew he was so attentive that he’d propose to her with an emerald ring.
It was beautiful, goodness, was it beautiful. The emerald diamond was at least three karats, and it was the star of the show. Its setting was gold with vines entagling the band. He pulled it out of the box and brought it closer to her.
“I don’t want to spend my life with anyone else but you, Cyn. You came in my life and changed my desires. I’d be a fool to let you slip through my fingertips. I want to be yours, and I want you to be mine, as long as you’ll have me.”
A tearful laugh fell from Cythia’s lips. “Where will we go?” The four words held so much weight, and he knew why. No one in the south would approve of the union of a white man and a Black woman--it was unheard of. But, Elvis knew that already, and he was determined to get what he wanted. There was one state that would grant their wishes--California. California had legalized interracial marriage in 1948, and if she said yes, he already had the first flight there arranged. He just needed a yes.
He stood to his feet and placed the box on the table. Cynthia looked up at him, her brown eyes teary and filled with a million unreadable emotions. “California. They’ll accept us out there. They don’t believe in the silliness them people in the south believe. We can get married, baby. All you gotta do is say yes, and we’ll go. It’ll be me an’ you forever. Baby…”
Cynthia stared at the ring and it stared back at her. What would she tell her parents? They were already suspicious of her relationship with Elvis and feared for her safety daily. Their Black daughter was in a committed relationship with the most famous singer in the world. That was dangerous enough. How much further was she willing to go?
She wanted to be his wife, she truly did. But she was scared. What would happen when people found out? Would they try to hurt them? A part of her challenged her concerns because her relationship was nobody else’s concern, and who was society to tell them who to love? Yes, they were of different races, but it was no reason to repel a love that was so strong and profound. They weren’t hurting anyone.
Her lips twisted as she nodded. “Let’s get married.”
“You look beautiful, darlin’.” Cynthia’s eyes dropped toward her dress. It was a simple, white slip dress that’d been hiding in her closet. It was form fitting and stopped just below her knees. Accompanied by silver pointed heels, she was the most stunning bride. She rushed her makeup in the courtroom bathroom and took the rollers out of her hair, which produced the most voluminous curls. The new layered haircut fit her wonderfully.
“Thank you. You look handsome as always.” He wore a simple black suit, nothing too crazy. He was flamboyant any other day, but chose to have the more simplistically beautiful wedding of his dreams.
“We are gathered here today…”
Their eyes met and giddy smiles spread across their faces. A dream had become a reality. All the worries and fears were washed away when she heard, “you may now kiss the bride.” Cynthia welcomed the passionate kiss and scattered applause from the judge an the officiant. It wasn’t the most ideal wedding, but it was perfect for them, and that’s what mattered. “Mr. and Mrs. Presley, congratulations.”
“Mrs. Presley…I love the sound of that.” They’d found a hotel to stay in for the evening before flying back to Graceland the following morning. The hotel service was luxurious, as they wanted the best for Elvis Presley and his wife. They stayed in the presidential suite on the top floor, which was decked out to the nine.
Large windows that oversaw the city, flowers and plants that reminded her of Graceland, chandeliers above them, and a King sized bed with an angel-white comforter, which she laid on comfortably.
Cynthia turned her head to meet his eyes and smiled gently. She loved it too. Cynthia Irene Presley. Music to her ears. Elvis stood at the end of the bed admiring her beauty. She was freshly showered and dressed in her white nightgown with lace trimming. Her makeup had been removed and her hair was tied with a satin scarf. God, she looked so beautiful to him.
Her brown eyes were blown wide with love and adoration as they followed his movements toward her. She sat up on her elbows and spread her legs just slightly to make room for his body.
Elvis crawled over her, his breath fanning her lips gently. Cynthia shuddered. His pink lips captured hers and she welcomed the feeling.
She loved intimate moments with Elvis, and she could only imagine how much better their interactions would get since they were married. It would mean they’d finally go all the way.
Cynthia and Elvis had dabbled in other forms of sexual intimacy, but had never crossed the line of penetration, as Cynthia requested. She was grateful for her husband’s patience with her, and was more than ready to give herself to him fully.
“Elvis,” she moaned softly as his lips traveled down her body. What a sight to see, it was. Him working his way down her quivering body with darkening eyes and swollen lips. Her, jerking at every touch he gave her and calling him name so gently.
“Yeah, baby…” His large hands cupped her hips as his thumbs traced the waistband of her panties. Slowly, he slid them down her legs. Cynthia kicked them to the side.
“Come here.” She pulled him upwards and kissed him again. Her lips moved toward his ear, which she nibbled on softly. Elvis moaned softly. “Make love to me, Mr. Presley.”
He burned with desire. Elvis hummed softly and instructed her to lay back. His hand slid up her abdomen, leaving goosebumps in the wake. He reached behind her back, looking to unclip her bra. She lifted up to help remove the article of clothing.
Soft pants and breaths of anticipation passed through her lips as Elvis’ warm lips traveled down the valley or her chest, around her clothed hips, and between her thighs, where he teasingly and strategically kissed around the place she wanted him the most.
He lifted his eyes, finding Cynthia with closed eyes and a heaving chest. Her lip was caught between her teeth. She looked down at him when she felt him stop.
She tensed suddenly. Elvis rubbed her thighs gently as a way of reassurance. He wouldn’t push her, though. If she needed time to prepare, he’d give her all the time in the world.
“Relax, baby, relax…”
Cynthia nodded slowly. She didn’t want it to be weird, but she was indeed nervous. But, it was Elvis, she reminded herself. She had no reason to be. All of her worries went away when she felt his lips on her. A gasp fell from her lips, “Elvis…”
“You okay?”
Cynthia nodded tiredly against his chest. “I’m okay.” She’d fantasized what her first time would be like, and Elvis exceeded her expectations. She felt so loved, adored, and honored. He paid close attention to her body and made sure her pleasure was the priority, and for that, she couldn’t have been more thankful.
“Mrs. Presley…” Elvis said for what seemed to be the millionth time. It didn’t bother her, though; she enjoyed hearing it. “I love you, darlin’.”
“I love you more, Mr. Presley.”

Peach Tea in Tennessee | One
Tumblr media
Pairing: Elvis Presley x black!reader
Word Count: 6K
Summary: Love is wasted on the young, or so they say. This isn’t the case for Elvis. He never dreamed of it happening to him, but a girl with the nude brown sunhat who sits in the park near Lauderdale Courts with the romance novel in her hand would change a lot of his thoughts about what true love truly means. This is a love story for the young and old, this is the love story that deserves to be told.
Warnings: teenaged!elvis, black bookworm!reader, smut (in later chapters), fluff, angst (lots of it), twists and turns, slow burn, a classic love story, written in the segregation/civil rights era, mention of racial slurs, happy ending???
A/N: Hey there babies, welcome to the beginning of Peach Tea in Tennessee. I wasn’t for sure if this would be a series or not, but because of my darlings, it has become a series! I’ve gotten some ideas from some of my babies and decided that this shouldn’t only be a one-shot so this is what it has come down to. This was a request from a wonderful anon who blew my mind with what she asked for. I don’t wanna keep you guys but I’m truly excited to see how this series will turn out. I hope everyone sticks around and enjoys the love story of Elvis and his little peach. 💗

Summers in Memphis were unusually scorching. The neighborhood kids would find themselves spending their breaks away from school by the lake or playing in the streets near a busted fire hydrant.
Elvis was no different.
Although he wasn’t necessarily popular with his peers at Humes, he still had a small circle of people he would like to think were his friends. One blistering summer day, Elvis was heading to the lake to meet with his friend, Red West. He had to beg his mother to allow him to take the car, but he knew that she would worry that something would happen to him during the route.
He started the journey there, his trusty guitar thrown over his shoulder and a song in his head. It would take him longer on foot than if he would have gotten the keys to his 1941 Lincoln, but he felt that he needed the exercise. He cursed under his breath as the blistering sun beamed down on his skin, eyes hooded as he tried to keep himself composed.
As he rounded the corner, he could make out a few of the neighborhood kids from his school who would in their spare time make jokes about his lanky form or his fashion. They would call him ‘squirrel’ or ‘mama’s boy’, but it didn’t bother him much. While he kept his eyes forward in hopes that they didn’t notice him, his eyes cut to the local park that all of the poor families of the neighborhood would frequent.
His family lived in Lauderdale Courts, the first of many housing projects that were owned by the government. The local park was a place where he and his family would often spend their time when they needed a place that was less stuffy than the two bedroom apartment that they lived in. He continued forward, his eyes lingering over the people who were out and about with their children or with their significant others.
However, there was one woman who stood out the most to him. You sat on a knitted quilt, the patterns catching his eyes with little birds and sunflowers on each piece of fabric. You had a nude brown sunhat on your head, but he could count the amount of curls on your head as your face was pushed into a book. Your cocoa brown complexion shone under the heated sun, the sundress that you wore was almost cream but it made your complexion stand out.
Although he couldn’t see your face, he knew that you were beautiful. Elvis was almost starstruck with how content you seemed, book in hand, surrounded by little eatables that he figured that you liked. While he was caught in wonder at the beautiful girl who sat in the entrance of the park, he bumped into something or someone. He didn’t want to turn away from her and from the looks of the person who stood in the way of his dream girl, he wished that he hadn’t.
“Hey Squirrel, where are you headed?” The voice caught him by surprise.
He sucked in a breath, feeling the presence of two more people behind him. It was Richard Dundy and his goons, the football stars at Humes who often were at the forefront of his teasing. His electric blues glared at the boy, sidestepping him as he only wanted to keep walking until he made it to the lake. His eyes turned back to where you were sitting only to find that you had placed the book aside as the commotion distracted you. Your eyes burned into the boy who stood in front of him, daggers in your eyes as your lips sat in a tight line.
“Why don’t you leave him alone?” His eyes widened like saucers at the sound of your voice.
He didn’t think that you would sound as beautiful as you looked; your bronze eyes watching their every move, but hadn’t once looked in his direction. Then your eyes turned to look at him and he could have sworn that his heart jumped out of his chest. He didn’t want you to get involved, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if you had gotten in trouble by defending him. Especially because you were on the different spectrum when it came to race. However, race didn’t matter to him. You were incredibly breathtaking and he would come to your rescue if he needed to.
“Nobody was talkin’ to you, little lady.” Richard spat, the hatred filling his eyes as they raked over your body.
Elvis could see red, reaching forward to grip the boy’s collar before leaning into his ear. “You don’t talk to a woman that way, I don’t care who she is.”
Richard smirked, his eyes moving from you before turning back to the boy in front of him. By the look of his wild eyes, Elvis knew that he brought unnecessary trouble to you. But, as troubles would often come and go in his life, he knew that he didn’t like the way they looked at you. He found himself wanting to protect you, even if it was from himself.
“Oh, so little mama’s boy has a darkie as a girlfriend? You never fail to disgust me every time I see you.”
That did it.
Elvis didn’t hold himself back as he reared his fist back before connecting it to Richard’s smug face. He heard you gasp, but all he could see was red. As he tussled with Richard on the ground, he could feel his goons struggling to pick him up from where he sat, fists connecting with every part of his face that he could reach. At that moment, he was pushed off but his eyes never left yours as he watched you covering your mouth at the commotion in front of you.
He was so embarrassed that he made a fool of himself in front of you. Once the situation died down, he looked in your direction once more, almost falling back down on the concrete from your beautiful smile. He couldn’t be in your presence looking the way that he did, so he gave a small smile to you before continuing on his way.
You were shocked that a guy like him would have issues with others. In your mind, you figured that he was popular, but due to the situation that happened before you, you felt pity for the boy. You could only hope that you would have the chance to express to him how grateful you were that he stood up for you.
Tumblr media
Days went by without the sighting of the lanky, blue eyed boy who pummeled the rascal that spoke to you in such a hateful manner. You shouldn’t be surprised though, you lived in such a time where people would spit in your general direction. Not him, you hoped. However, as time went on, you would begin to believe that the situation days prior was only a fluke. When he didn’t show up in the days following the incident, you were beginning to think that it was the last time that you would see him.
What you didn’t know was that he would walk that same path past the park once you were gone, his heart hopeful to catch a glance of the beautiful girl with the bronze complexion that shimmered under the sun. He was beginning to lose hope as well when he didn’t see the beautiful quilt or the nude sunhat that sat on the crown on your head. How he wished that he wasn’t a coward, that he didn’t even know your name. He couldn’t face you after you witnessed him struggling to seem macho.
He didn’t want to approach you, with the fear that you would view him as a boy who couldn’t hold his own. That he couldn’t protect you from the dangers that you dealt with on a day-to-day basis. Elvis was conflicted; he wanted to hide himself away from you, viewing you as a goddess that deserved to be treated with the utmost respect but he also wanted to get to know you. He wanted to know what you liked and disliked, he wanted to be the man who made you smile like you always did when you were neck deep in those books of yours.
One summer afternoon, Elvis walked that same path with his guitar strapped to his back. His cerulean eyes searched the entire park for the dark-skinned beauty who had become a fixture of his daily thoughts. He was eager to see you once again, but he wasn’t willing to have his hopes shattered at the reality that maybe he had scared you away. He told his mama all about the girl who captured his attention, how you loved romance novels and little snack cakes. His cousins teased him about how he was becoming a hopeless romantic, after all, they were used to seeing him being chased by girls on the regular. You weren’t like those girls, he refused to believe that you would throw yourself all over him because of his act of chivalry.
Elvis needed to know your name. He knew that it would taste sweet on the tip of his tongue, but he had no clue where to find you. Elvis didn’t know if he would ever see you again, but he wasn’t willing to give up until he captured your beauty in his sights once more.
“Excuse me sir, I’ve seen you walk past this park every single day. Are you looking for someone by chance?” Elvis turned to see a taller woman with the same complexion as the girl who graced his dreams.
It wasn’t you, but maybe she would know where he could find the smaller framed woman that he has been searching endlessly for.
“Uh y-yes. Ya see, ‘m lookin’ for a short woman. W-with the b-beautiful b-ronzed skin that shines under the sun. She’s always readin’ a book or somethin’, n-nude sunhat?” He stammered over his words, cheeks tinted with pink.
The girl in front of him pondered over his words for some time before a knowing smile crossed her lips. Elvis didn’t miss the way her eyes lit up as if she knew exactly who he was talking about. She stepped away from him, peering at him with an unyielding gaze before she opened her mouth.
“So you’re the boy who punched that scoundrel in the face?” She asked, eliciting a nod from Elvis as he twiddled with his thumbs.
Elvis didn’t know where the girl was going with the conversation, but he didn’t press her any further. He was sure that she didn’t know the unknown woman who plagued his dreams every night, but he was surprised when her smile grew. “You’re looking for Y/N. She’s been at the park everyday, lookin’ for you. However, when she didn’t see you, she was beginning to give up so she took a break for a while. I can tell you where she lives if you want to find her?”
Elvis’ knees nearly gave out at the sound of your name. Y/N. He was right that your name was just as beautiful as you were. The girl gave him your address and he became immediately familiar with the neighborhood; after all, that’s where he would frequent with his buddies when they went looking for the hot spots to catch a glimpse of his favorite musicians. Elvis was the type to not chase his tail while trying to get a girl’s attention, but he didn’t mind making a fool of himself in order to get yours.
That same night, he sat at the dinner table with his folks happily chewing up the meatloaf that his mother had made. His mama knew that he was growing impatient with the search for the girl who caught her boy’s attention. It was then at the dinner table that she knew that something had changed, but she couldn’t put two and two together at that time.
“What’s got you so happy, baby?” Gladys placed her fork back down on the plate, catching Vernon’s attention as he sipped from his beer bottle.
“Why can’t the boy be happy, Gladys? He’s been down in the dumps since last week, maybe something good happened at school.” Vernon grunted, turning to face his son as he looked at the both of his parents.
“Nothin’ ever good happens at school, Daddy.” Elvis started, placing his fork down on the table before grabbing the glass of his mama’s famous lemonade, taking a couple of gulps before placing the glass back down on the table.
“If nothin’ ever good happens at school, son, why don’t ya tell us what’s got ya so merry then?” Vernon pressed, a smirk crossing his lips as he knew it had something to do with the short brown-skinned woman that his son wouldn’t stop yammering about.
“I finally found that girl that I was tellin’ yous about. Her name is Y/N and she lives out there by Beale Street.” Elvis grinned, his cheeks burning pink as he felt embarrassed about how jubilant he sounded when speaking your name.
“That’s great news, baby. Are you gon’ invite her over for dinner?” Gladys questioned, a soft smile crossing her lips as she took in the horrified look on her son’s face by the question she asked.
“Mama, I don’t wanna scare her away by invitin’ her to meet my parents so early when I didn’t even know her name until earlier today.” He groaned, brows furrowed as he so desperately wanted you to meet his parents.
“I’m thinkin’ about askin’ her out on a date first. She may not even be interested in me, I’m white and she’s black. That may be a problem for her.” He frowned, scratching at the back of his neck as his ears burned red.
Gladys frowned at her son’s ignorance, sending a sharp glare in his direction before turning to her husband. She knew the era that they lived in, but she could never understand how people could have an hateful perception of a dynamic of people based on the color of their skin. Back in Tupelo, Gladys remembered a kind woman who welcomed her and her son with open arms when they became the only white family to move into Shake Rag. From then on, she had come to love and cherish every human that graced the world.
The good Lord’s word always preached to love thy neighbor and in her eyes, black people weren’t an exception to the rule. She didn’t miss how Elvis was always fascinated by the tent revivals that happened in the same town of Shake Rag, listening to him become thrilled about the type of music that he wanted to make once he grew older. Although she worried about her son, she always wanted her son to be happy. A couple of grandkids didn’t hurt either.
She knew that it was a little bit early to talk to her son about her desire to see her son happily married with children of his own, to fill the void that she has always had since her beloved Jessie earned his angel wings. God knows that she and Vernon couldn’t bear having another child, the uncertainty that the same would happen to it if they pushed through. Having Elvis was enough, but she couldn’t help but to think that maybe growing old and witnessing her precious son having his own family would fill the hole that became engraved in her heart.
“I’m sure that she would be delighted to go on a date with you, son. Don’t let the segregation laws stop ya, but whatever ya do, be careful. You may not know it now, but people are evil. Ya don’t want nothin’ to happen to that beautiful girl.” Vernon spoke up, picking up the bottle of beer before taking another swig.
“Yessir.” Elvis drawled, eyeing his mother who seemed deep in thought. “Everythin’ alrite, mama?”
Gladys returned her son’s gaze, mustering up a small smile as she nodded her head. “Your father is right, baby. Keep that girl safe, Elvis. I couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to you or to her. Whenever you’re ready, Vernon and I will welcome her with open arms.”
That gave Elvis the push that he needed to ask you on a date, pushing his chair away from the table before grabbing his coat and the keys to his Lincoln. He wasn’t going to miss this opportunity, not by a long shot. “Where are ya going, baby? It’s late.”
He turned to face his parents. Vernon wore a grin on his face, while Gladys looked confused. Elvis sucked in a breath, a toothy grin spreading across his lips. “‘m goin’ ta ask her on a date, I ain’t waitin’ any longer. Thank ya, Mama, Thank ya, Daddy.”
Tumblr media
Elvis shut the door behind him, not giving his parents any more time to keep him at the house longer than he wanted. He climbed into his old Lincoln, pushing the keys in the ignition before speeding away from Lauderdale Courts with only one thing on his mind. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to go to sleep that night without asking you out. The words that his parents had spoken at the dinner table rang in his mind as he drove to your address, but he was filled with so much excitement that he realized that he was nearing your home.
He didn’t pull near your home in fear that he would get you into unnecessary trouble, turning the lights off of his car before getting out. He noticed that there was only one light on in the house, a smile crossing his lips as he realized that it was your room. He crept up to the proximity where he could get your attention. Elvis was filled with nervousness  each step that he took to your house, careful not to step on any object that would alert the neighborhood that he was creeping around your window.
Elvis picked up a few pebbles from your flower bed, chucking a few towards your window. He sucked his teeth as a few missed your window, but he grew confident once he adjusted his aim. His eyes lingered towards your window, nerves eating up at his body as he took in your beautiful form making your way over to investigate the noise. He threw two more pebbles, smirking as you pulled your window open with a glare on your face. “Who is-?”
“It’s me.” You turned your eyes to look over the lanky boy who stood in your yard, pebbles in his hand and a lopsided smile on his lips.
It surely couldn’t be the boy who you saw at the park, you thought. Your eyes adjusted to see that it was indeed the tall, lanky boy who wrestled in front of you the week prior. Your glare faltered from your face, becoming replaced with uneasiness at the fact that he was standing in front of you. You would have remembered giving him your address, but you haven’t been able to see him for days. Why was he here now?
Surely, he must have known that you were looking all over Memphis for him. As you took in his goofy smile and his shimmering eyes, you forgot that you were standing in front of him in your nightgown. You reached over to grab your robe before tying it around your body before leaning out of the window to address the boy whose name you still didn’t know.
“What are you doin’ here? It’s late, you know?” You giggled, placing your hands on the windowsill, leaning out to see that he was bouncing his legs like he was on fire.
“I know what this looks like, darlin’. I must look like a creep standing at your house like this so late, but I’ve been lookin’ fer ya everywhere. Your friend told me where you lived so I wanted to come by to let ya know that I haven’t forgotten about ‘cha.”
Trisha must’ve told him about how you were sitting in the park everyday around the same time looking for him. You made a note to tell her off once you saw her the following day, but you pushed that task to the back of your mind before returning the boy’s gaze. “Well, can I at least have the name of the boy who is standing in my yard? You ran off so fast the other day that I didn’t get the chance to ask.”
“E-elvis, my name is Elvis.” The southern drawl caught your attention.
You’ve never met a boy with such an unusual name, but you thought that it fit him. You giggled, rocking on your feet as you smiled softly down at him. “Well, Mister Elvis. I wanted to thank you for standing up for me the other day. I’m Y/N.”
“I-I know. Y-your friend told me your name earlier today when she stopped me.” He stammered over his words, you could make out the pink tint of his cheeks as his eyes looked everywhere rather than at you.
“I'm gonna kill Trisha.” You muttered, rolling your eyes at the fact that she was the one to tell him your name.
“W-what was that, darlin’?”
“Oh nothing, so may I ask why you’re here so late?” You asked, tilting your head, your curls falling in your eyes before you nervously moved them away so you could see him fully.
“I-I was in the neighborhood a-and I-I-I wanted ta know if ya wanted to go out on a date with me? Y-ya don’t h-haveta s-say y-yes, I just felt like I w-would ask.” There he goes again stammering over his words, softly cursing under his breath as he figured he sounded like a fool stumbling in front of you like this.
He looked up at you, twiddling his thumbs as he waited for any reaction that he could get from you. The silence bothered him, putting thoughts in his head that maybe he bit off more than he could chew until finally, you opened your mouth to speak.
“I don’t see why not? When do you want to go on this said date?” You asked, your voice sounding like music to his ears.
Elvis was stunned. He didn’t think that you would agree the first time, but he was so glad that you did. He thought for only a moment before tilting his head up to look at you, his blue eyes glowing with excitement. “Are ya free Saturday? We can meet on Beale Street, if that makes ya more comfortable? I-I-I don’t have any problems with anything ya agree with.”
Your giggle reached Elvis’ ears once more, his heart fluttering in his chest as he took in your beautiful appearance. He could die happily tomorrow if all he heard last was your elegant laugh. “Saturday it is, Elvis. Now, go home! I don’t want to get caught by my parents talkin’ to a boy this late.”
“I’ll see ya Saturday, darlin’. Goodnight.” He couldn’t keep his smile at bay, grinning up at you before stepping backwards almost tripping over his feet.
He silently cursed once more, hearing your beautiful laugh grace his eardrums before waving at you as he walked away from your house. As he rounded the tall hedge of bushes that hid your house, he pumped his arm in victory. He couldn’t wait to get home and tell his parents that he would have a date. As he climbed into his car, he couldn’t keep his smile off of his face, excited for the rest of the week to pass so that he could see you once again.
He made it back home safely, the smile still prevalent on his lips as he entered the living room where his mother was sitting with his grandmother, Dodger. He sank down on the couch, still holding on to his keys and his jacket. He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t realize that his mother was calling his name. “Yes, mama?”
“How did it go, baby? Did she say yes?” Gladys laughed, patting his knee.
“Mama, she’s so beautiful. I ain’t think that she would agree, but she did. Oh, mama, I can’t wait to see her again.” He spoke fast, not stopping once to catch his breath.
“Calm down, baby. I knew that she wouldn’t say no to my boy, look at you. You’re such a sweetheart, I’m sure she will find that out for herself soon.” Elvis grinned in his mother’s direction, bouncing his knee as his thoughts returned to the brown-skinned beauty whose smile lit up his world.
“I’m gonna go to bed, mama. I’ve got school in the mornin’.” He stood up from his seat, pressing a kiss to his mother’s cheek before going over to kiss his grandmother’s forehead.
As he laid in bed, he couldn’t keep the smile away as he replayed the look in your eyes as he stuttered over his words. He couldn’t help himself, you were too pretty for him to let you slip out of his fingers. He knew that Saturday was a few days away, but he couldn’t wait any longer. He knew that he had to, but that didn’t mean that he liked the idea. As sleep overtakes him, the only thing that his mind replayed was the graceful sound of your laughter.
Tumblr media
The rest of the week went by slowly, much to the chagrin of you. You couldn’t stop thinking about the tall boy named Elvis who appeared at your home on Monday evening. Trisha picked at you, wanting to know what he talked to you about. You didn’t miss the time to also let her know that it wasn’t polite that she was the one to tell him your name or where you lived for the matter. In fact, you wanted to be the one to tell him yourself.
“Come on, Y/N, would you have actually told him where you lived even if he asked you out on a date at that stupid park?”
“That’s not important. I wanted to be the one to tell him things about me.” You retorted, tilting your hat properly on your head before turning to face her once more.
You dismissed yourself from her, giving her a tiny smile before you made your way to the familiar park that became your second home. When you first found it, you were amazed at how much you felt free. Your parents weren’t ever home, leaving you to find your purpose on your own. Books became your main source of comfort in the time of loneliness; the words popping off of the page and becoming part of your world.
You were in another world due to the romance novel that you had begun to read when the sun suddenly disappeared from your face. You tilted your head up to meet the icy blues of the boy that you had been thinking about. You thought that he looked handsome as he stood in your yard the other night, but nothing could have prepared you to see him up close and personal. Your eyes lingered on his face, a shy smile crossing your lips as you placed the novel in your hands beside you.
“Good afternoon, peach. I thought I would find ya here.”
You didn’t miss the hitching of your breath and the increase of your heartbeat at the name of endearment. You struggled to find the words to speak, but nevertheless, you pushed through. “Afternoon, Elvis. How can I help you?”
You mentally slapped yourself at how demure you sounded. You turned your face away from him for a short time before turning back to look at him. He still wore the same smile as he did when he was at your house, something that you were starting to like about him. You waited for only a short while, the silence sweet and welcoming as you stared into his blue eyes.
“Well, I know that we are supposed to go on a date soon but I wanted ta come sit with ya for a while. Y-you don’t h-haveta agree, but I just wanted to.” He stammered, your face in awe at how flustered he became when he spoke to you.
“I don’t see why you couldn’t. I brought some snacks, if you wanted to try them.”
Elvis hummed, sitting next to you on your quilt. His eyes wandered over the different snacks that you made, a small smile lingering on his lips before he turned to face you once again. You could make out the small acne lines that littered his overall clear skin, his blue eyes shining beneath the sun before he parted his lips.
“What are ya readin’ today?” He asked, pointing to the book that now laid beside you.
“The Great Sophy, it’s written by Georgette Heyer. She’s one of my favorite authors, have you heard of it?”
He shook his head, waiting for you to continue with your thoughts of the novel. You were blown away at the fact that he was so interested in learning about the books that you were reading. The boys that you would talk to before him were never interested in the same things as you were, often dismissing your love for novels because they thought it was a bit unsuitable that a girl like you would indulge in childish books about romance. Elvis seemed to welcome it and more, wanting to learn more about you the more than he was around you.
“Well, the protagonist, Sophia travels with her father during the Napoleonic war because he’s known as a diplomat. After Napoleon is exiled, she follows her father to South America where he has taken up a temporary post. She gets along with most of her cousins when they arrived, but she doesn’t get along with one: Charles Rivenhall. He finds her annoying to put it lightly.” You started, your eyes never leaving Elvis’ as he soaked in your summary.
“So Charles has a lot happening in his life. He assumed the role of the adult of his family due to his sickly mother and his gambling addict of a father. He’s also engaged to marry a woman who I think he doesn’t need to be with, Eugenia. She’s very spiteful, very tyrannical in a way. Sophia feels as if she needs to save the family, so she makes it her mission to solve the problems that are plaguing the family. According to where I am, she and Charles are supposed to fall in love with each other, although they don’t take to one another.”
“But aren’t they cousins? That’s gross.” Elvis chuckles, picking up one of the strawberry cupcakes that you baked the night before.
“I suppose that would be seen as gross in our time, but this story is written in 1816 so it wasn’t uncommon for familial romance. Although it is boorish, it’s still sweet that Sophia is willing to save his family. She doesn’t have anything to lose other than his fiance, Eugenia who has everything given to her.”
“Do you see yourself like the character Sophia? Do you relate to her?” Elvis asked, catching you off guard.
You turned back to look at him, mouth agape as you thought about the question that he had asked you. In most of the novels that you had read, you found yourself comparing the characters in the stories to your life. You could see some similarities between you and Sophia, minus the falling in love with your cousin. You would like to believe that you were independent and outgoing as she was.
“In some aspects, yes. She’s very independent, outgoing, and elegant. I don’t know about the elegance part, but I am fairly independent and outgoing. My mama often calls me Goose because she says that I’m friendly and always wanting to keep people smiling.” You giggled, placing your hand over your mouth to keep yourself from embarrassing yourself any further.
Elvis found you adorable, his cerulean hues staring into your cocoa eyes as he took in every word that you said. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to be speaking to such an intelligent soul such as yourself. Although he didn't often read books, he appreciated how you found such importance in the captivating stories that you read. He wanted to sit in your presence, hearing more about the books that you would read. He wanted to be in your embrace even without talking about the stories.
He was enamored with you, wanting to be in your life as long as time allowed. He spent the rest of the afternoon learning things about you that made him like you even more. You were the only child; the child of a businessman and a nurse who were never at home until late at night, and you enjoyed everything that was made of strawberries and peaches. He found that the nickname ‘Peach’ fit you because you were fairly sweet. He adored you, often wondering how someone like you could ever be interested in a stuttering fool as himself.
Soon, the day had come to an end and Elvis needed to return home before his mother sent a search party to look for him. He didn’t want to leave your side, but it was far too dangerous for you to be out when it got dark. “Would you mind if I took ya home, peach?”
“That’s very nice of you, Elvis. I wouldn’t mind at all.”
That was all Elvis needed to hear before he helped you gather your things, leading you over to his car that sat in the front of the park. He opened your door, helping you inside before he placed your things in the backseat. On the ride over to your place, Elvis continued the conversation but this time, he allowed you to ask him questions about himself. He found himself telling you things that not even his parents knew about him, finding that being in your presence was effortless. You were so pleasant to talk to, he wanted nothing more than to continue.
As he made it to your house, he stopped in front of the driveway before clearing his throat. “I could pick ya up tomorrow for our date s-s-so ya won’t haveta walk. Does 4 o’clock work for you?”
“It does, I had a great time today. Thank you for keeping me company, Elvis. You’re such a delight, I’ll see you tomorrow.” You softly retorted, gathering your quilt and the tupperware that now was empty from Elvis eating most of your snacks.
You exited his car, waving goodbye as you made it inside of your house. The beating of your heart never ceased as you laid against the door. Elvis was surely different, so easy to talk to and so polite. You weren’t sure where he came from, but you were so conflicted about letting him in. Yes, he was sweet and very attentive to the words that you said but he was also white. You weren’t the type to think about skin color being a flaw, but it was because of the time that you were living in that you had to take that into consideration.
What would his parents think about their son courting someone of a different skin tone as him? You already knew that your parents didn’t care about a person’s race, only reminding you that it was what was on the inside that counted. Your parents would love Elvis, he was very sweet and he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. You didn’t know if his parents would respect their son’s decisions to see a black woman, let alone a woman of her status. You were also concerned about what society would think if you were seen with Elvis, making the upcoming date much more alarming.
Only time could tell where this would lead, so you decided that you would give Elvis a try and would worry about the rest at a later time.

Bloody Sacrifices
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Reader reminisces about how she ended up with Elvis
TW: Cheating, angst, I think that’s it!
A/N: I know I know, where tf has bee been? Under a rock, sorry for leaving so suddenly but that’s just the way things go, I really did try to get back into my groove, with little success. But between school, and getting married and work, I had no time or really the patience to let myself be creative. And then, Eureka! An idea struck and my drafted papers that had been waiting on me finally started to get finished. Again, really sorry for the cliffhangers and such!
-Signed, Bee💕
Mrs. Presley,
What a title. Sometimes, it’s hard to think of life without him. He’s not perfect, no man is, but he’s pretty damn close.
Often time, you find yourself thinking about how you got this far. Married, comfortable, committed, with a beautiful child and very little worries.
The day had been heavy, you hadn’t had the greatest time. The boy you swore your heart to decided that for your third anniversary, he would treat another beauty to the dinner you reserved. Under his name, like some fool.
When the attendants opened the doors, you passed under the threshold, heart swelling. Something made you so certain it would be the day; the day he’d get down on one knee with glassy eyes and a nervous tongue and fumble over those four little words that would change your life forever.
When you asked the hostess about your table, she was quick to inform you that, the table had already been sat. You thought, for a moment, that he had beat you here. This made you excited, thinking he was really taking the initiative. So you thanked the woman and made your way around the restaurant, searching for your dream boat.
It didn’t take you long to spot him, knowing that haircut just about anywhere. Actually, every minute detail, down to how his collar hugged his neck was logged in your brain. Up until this point, you had spent an unhealthy amount of time…studying, perfecting.
So you approached the table, carefully as to not give away how excited you really were. As you got closer, hoping to see him fidgeting with his tie in front of an empty seat, you could feel the butterflies churn in your stomach. As fate would have it, things don’t always go as planned. Not at all actually.
Instead, you found a pretty blonde woman with tears in her eyes adoring an exceptional rock, and that boy with his head held high, with a beaming smile, and chest puffed out. Made you sick.
To this day, you aren’t sure what really drove you to do what you did that night.
Maybe, it was the way you cleaned after him like a mother would a toddler, or the way he expected dinner on the table before he returned at five thirty or all hell broke loose. It might’ve even been having to keep everything spectacularly clean. Down to his damn underwear.
Whatever it was, the camels back was broken and there was no reason for you to hold face now. You kept the tears at bay, gracefully walking over, stopping in front of the lovely couple.
Wouldn’t you know. As soon as the man saw you he did start to fidget with that tie. That same damned tie you bought for his birthday. You’d never seen him wear it but you’d guessed that day was as good a time as any.
And her. When you really looked at her, you picked her apart in less than 20 seconds. Bottle blonde, not natural, lipstick that wasn’t her color, makeup that didn’t compliment her, the dress she wore did nothing for her figure. All the things he swore not to like, sat right in front of you. You couldn’t believe it.
With a painfully fake smile you looked between the two. You had let out a quick breath in preparation for what you were about to say. It was quick, and sweet, no malice detected.
“Engaged?”
That was it. That was all you had asked.
Withought missing a beat she nodded her head
“After two years, I wasn’t even expecting this! At a place this nice, on our anniversary too. He really is so thoughtful. And the ring, ugh—”
She continued to ramble, but all you could hear was “Two years” and “our anniversary”
She had no clue about you. None.
And, for two of the three years, this man had the wool pulled over your eyes. Fresh out of high school, You had been walking blindly behind him and never noticed.
At least that’s what you told yourself in the moment.
But, you did know. You just wanted to deny your ignorance in that moment. You couldn’t deny the late nights, foreign perfume, and lack of affection though. Not even if you wanted to.
Till the very end though, you kept face.
“How lovely, I hope… I—, wish you both the very best.”
The woman gave a quick false smile and said “thank you, but we are trying to celebrate.”
You nodded your head and returned the same smile. You timber spinning on your feet and gearing up to make a beeline for the door. You really couldn’t help yourself though. You threw your head over your shoulder,
“Just remember, he doesn’t like it when you leave the stains in his underwear. You’ll never get them out though, just burn them and buy a new pair!”
And with that, you were through the door. Though it was a small power move, the tears still flooded your vision. It hurt bad. There was a slight downpour, mimicking the feelings you harbored. With no car you had no choice but to keep walking.
The back of your feet were rubbed raw, skin broken and bleeding. The hairstyle you had chosen for that night and no doubt frizzy beyond repair through slight adjustments.
In your emotional haze, the grate on the sidewalk went unnoticed, the back of your heel payed the price. You stopped and removed the shoe, assessing the damage. This small inconvenience on any other day would’ve made you roll your eyes and let out a curse or two. This wasn’t a normal day.
You had broken character. An almost primal shriek left your chest. Something akin to that of a hurt animal. It wasn’t pretty, or poised. It was raw and unfiltered. The scream felt good, exhilarating.
Even with that nice release of emotion, you wanted to go home. You removed both shoes and chucked them as far as you could, sacrificing their beauty, and continuing on your journey back to your very warm and dry house.
A few minutes passed, you were about five minutes away when those headlights creeped up behind you.
You looked back, part of you hoping it was the fool you’d banked on. What he did was unforgivable, yes, but you had nothing else. As the car started to progress a little was past you, you tossed that hope through the window.
“Scuse’ me honey. Why’d ya throw your heels at me?”
You stopped, glaring over at the unidentified stranger,
A simple, “I didn’t,” was all he got out of you.
The car stopped all together. The sound of the door opening put you on edge. A man stopping at this time of night, to return a broken pair of heels? Yea, right. When he rounded his car with your shoes in hand and a smug look on his pretty…face. He looked you up and down and you did the same, wondering who-
Holy shit. Was all you could think. You had thrown your heels, your very broken heels at Elvis Presley.
“Now honey, I’m no shoe salesman, but I’d bet my bottom dollar, that these here fit those pretty little puppies just right. Save for your ankles of course—”
Your shoulders dropped and you held your hand out.
“Please, just give em’ here. Night’s been bad enough, Mr. Presley. I don’t need to be humiliated any further.”
The brunet let out a light chuckle,
“Wanna tell me your name?”
You let out a sigh,
“Y/n.”
“Call me Elvis. And I can see that it’s been a little rough. What happened, honey, date stood ya up?”
You shook your head and decided to humor him,
“No, I found my beau with a different beauty,”
His smile faltered and he parted his lips, no doubt to issue an apology. You continued before he got the chance,
“Which he proposed to…”
His mouth closed, face showing pity. The last part of your confessional came out barley above a whisper,
“On our anniversary.”
Elvis was too stunned to speak, he looked around as if to see if anyone else had heard what you just said. He was in utter disbelief, that someone could wilt a beautiful flower such as yourself.
“I’m sorry honey, I didn’t meant to poke fun at you, just wanted a chance to ask you on a date.”
You could’ve sworn your ears were malfunctioning.
“I’m flattered, but no less than twenty minutes ago, I thought I was getting married. I don’t think it’s a good time—”
Elvis was quick to shake his head,
“No , no I meant to say it wasn’t appropriate. But at least let me drive you home.”
With nothing but tears to lose, you nodded your head and shuffled to the passenger side door, which he kindly opened for you.
The two-minute ride i was silent but not uncomfortable, the radio was at a low volume and the only time you spoke was to give directions.
When you arrived at your small home, you thanked Elvis for the ride. Before you could part, he handed you a slip with his number on it,
“Call when you’re ready for that date, honey.”
Hesitantly, you took the slip and made your way inside.
It was stuffed in a drawer somewhere as you fell into your stupor. For two weeks, you wallowed in self-pity. Fourteen days before you grew a pair. You rummaged though all your kitchen drawers looking for that slip.
It might have been foolish to assume Elvis would still be thinking about you after two weeks, but you still gave it a try.
Your hands trembled as you spun the rotary dial, carefully choosing every number that was on the paper. Receiver against your ear, chewing on your lip.
It rang three times before you’d slammed the phone back on its hook. It was a fruitless idea, there was just no way—
A ring stopped your negative thoughts, it rang twice before you picked it back up. Saying hello and waiting for a response.
“Y/n?” There was a pause. You didn’t know he’d given you his personal number.
“Uh, hello? Honey?…ya there?”
You shook of the surprise,
“Y—yes, uh, yes m’here”
Elvis wouldn’t be Elvis without pointing out the obvious
“So, you’re finally callin’ bout that date?”
You could practically hear the smile in his voice, and with a roll of your eyes, you said yes.
That date turned into ten years of love and a little bit of stress. He got you the prettiest ring, proposed at the prettiest dinner, and gave you the gift of your son.
For once, tears felt good on your face. When you look for reasons to stay with this perfectly imperfect man, you remember,
Those bloody sacrifices.

“ellis presley, blue moon boys, you’re up next.” the stage manager calls towards scotty as he rushes backstage, guitar in hand. he pushes the back door open and descends the stairs, where bill is staring at a poster with their name on it.
the latter lets out a scoff, “ellis presley…got a nice ring to it.”
scotty chuckles and motions for bill to follow him back towards elvis, dixie, gladys, and vernon. gladys gives the boys a kind smile before returning her attention back to her son.
“w-what if i forget the words on live radio? i ain’t no jimmy rogers snow.” elvis panics, sipping on the cola dixie had grabbed for him, “a-and where the hell is (y/n)?! ian’ going on without her!”
dixie looks up at him dejectedly as he hands the bottle of cola back to her, it suddenly feeling like a bag of bricks.
she always felt like she was competing with you. elvis would tell her that you were no more than a friend, but she wasn’t blind. the way you looked at him spoke stories.
“no one expects you to be jimmie rogers snow.” his father speaks, avoiding answering his question.
bill nods, “it’s just a bit of clowning around.
“that’s how we got this thing started in the first place.” scotty joins.
gladys rubs her son’s arm reassuringly, “scotty and bill are right, elvis. you’re not out there on your own. you boys are a band. the lord gave us music to bring people together. we’re like a family, and family’s the most important thing of all.”
“the family ain’t complete without (y/n).” elvis snaps, his nerves getting the best of him. as if on cue, you come through the door and trudge down the steps. your hands are visibly shaking as you wipe the corners of your mouth and force a smile. everyone but elvis seems to notice your unusual demeanor.
you force an awkward laugh, “sorry, i got caught up watching that snow boy on stage.”
elvis frowns at that and immediately opens his mouth to complain. his mother, however, rubs the back of his neck and cuts him off.
“if the good lord wants to speak through song here tonight, we are but vessels of His will. come on now, booby.” she motions for everyone to come in closer, “jesse is shining bright tonight.”
the elder woman looks up into the sky, the rest of the group following suit. she leads in song as one-by-one, they all join.
♪ some glad morning…
when this life is over…
i’ll fly away…
i’ll fly away, oh glory…
i’ll fly away, i’ll fly away…
i’ll fly away, i’ll fly away… ♪
as the song comes to a finish, sam walks through the door followed by marion.
“better get on up! they’ve just made a big announcement about you on the radio.” he says, his face seemingly just as pale as elvis’.
“folks are real excited!” marions quips before nudging him, “sam, don’t look so worried.”
elvis and his family make their way up the stairs, him and the band heading backstage while the rest go find some seats. before you can part with the others, the raven haired boy grabs you by the arm.
“why’d ya disappear like that?” he glares, his blue eyes dark.
you look back at the others nervously, but elvis is quick to grab your chin and make you face him.
“don’t look at them, look at me. what’s going on with you lately?”
“i-”
“elvis come on, we’re on!” scotty calls, saving you from a conversation you weren’t ready to have.
as he walks away, he mouths, “we ain’t done.”
𓍊𓋼𓍊
that night after the show, you, dixie, vernon, and elvis sat at the table awaiting supper. the show was exhilarating, and while you wanted so badly to talk to elvis about it, you didn’t want him asking any more questions about where you’d ran off to. you watch with a bitter taste in your mouth as he and dixie sit close to one another, whispering about something.
you can only sit and watch for so long before you abruptly stand up and head towards the kitchen where gladys is.
“need help with anything?” you speak softly so as to not startle her. she looks up at you and notices the wetness in your eyes. before you can react, she’s pulling you into a loving hug.
“oh, honey. he’ll come to his senses soon.”
you sigh. at times, you wished you had been better at hiding it. gladys promised to keep your secret, but having someone know meant you were being watched. any time you had to step away, any time you randomly skipped supper, she knew. that somehow made what you were going through ten times more painful.
later on, as you all sat at the table eating, elvis cleared his throat.
“i’m gonna be joinin’ hank snow on his tour.”
you choke on your soup, gaining the attention of everyone. feeling the thickness in your throat, you run to the bathroom and lock the door.
“so, without so much as a word to your daddy and me, you quit your job to run around in that rickety jalopy, speeding down dangerous road, getting girls all hopped up.” you can hear the anger in gladys voice as you sit on the tiled floor, head against the toilet. you blink slowly, trying to gain the energy to walk out and put a smile on your face.
“...soon, you’ll be drinking, going off to them slut parties–”
“mama!” elvis cuts her off. you can’t help but feel another painful wave of nausea at the thought.
a knock at the door startles you. you quickly flush the toilet, rinse your mouth, and unlock the door.
“dixie?”
she pushes herself in and locks the door behind her. you stand uncomfortably against the bathroom counter, having never been left alone with her. you knew she didn’t really like you; you had the luxury of knowing elvis since he was a young boy. you were special to him, and she didn’t like that.
“what is going on between you and elvis?” she leans against the door with her arms crossed. you can still hear the commotion going on at the table.
“what do you mean? i–we grew up together, he’s my best friend.”
she scoffs, her face turning a nasty shade of pink.
“are you pregnant with his child or somethin’?”
you can’t help but let out an exasperated laugh. you quickly cover your mouth as you notice the serious look on her face.
“i’m not pregnant, dixie.”
“then what’s with all the runnin’ away, throwin’ up, whisperin’ to gladys?”
your blood runs cold. you should’ve been more careful. you watch as her eye seemingly catches onto something near the toilet.
“shit, (y/n).” is all she says, her angry expression softening. there on the creme colored tiles lays a lone flower petal.
“please don’t tell him.” is all you can get out, tears already threatening to leave your sullen eyes.
“oh, i won’t.” dixie scoffs, “it’s not like there’s anything you can do anyway. elvis is mine.”
the sound of a door slamming causes the both of you to jump. dixie gives you one last glare before leaving you alone. you topple over and choke out some more petals.
as elvis’ career began to skyrocket, your friendship pummeled. you heard from gladys that elvis had broken things off with dixie right before the school formal. she sounded hopeful, but you knew better.
time flew, and the pain refused to suffice.
*:・゚✧ ‘57
gladys ended up asking you to move in with her and vernon permanently. you had stayed in and out of the presley residence since you were thirteen, but by age eighteen you felt you were burdening them and slept on a cot on the upper level of club handy, it was yours in exchange for some labor.
you accepted her offer only because you knew how lonely she was while her son was out and about. you were lonely too.
one morning, elvis came barging in, his pearly whites on show. you were sitting at the table with a bowl of cereal, startled by the loud noise.
“how ya been, darlin’?” he asks, pulling you up from your chair into a warm embrace.
“good. your mama’s missed you.”
he pulls away with a chuckle, “you say that as if ya didn’t.”
before you can argue, gladys emerges from her room and gives her son a big hug. vernon comes soon after and pats the boy on the back.
“i’ve got a surprise for y’all.”
that day, elvis showed you all your new home. graceland.
𓍊𓋼𓍊
“i see you’ve been gettin’ in a bit of trouble.” you chuckle, handing the raven haired boy a newspaper you had collected. he stands up from his spot on your room floor and joins you on your bed. it’d been a while since you two had spent time together.
elvis doesn’t speak for a while, causing you to look over at him with furrowed brows. you nudge his arm gently.
“you alright satnin?” the nickname slips, but elvis doesn’t seem to mind. he turns onto his side and sighs.
“the colonel says i might be gettin’ drafted.”
the air in your room seems to fall still, your heartbeat pounding in your ears.
“t-that’s insane! you ain’t did nothin’ wrong but express yourself. your own mama thinks it’s okay!” you sit up from the bed and begin pacing, chewing on your lip, “i oughta give that man a piece of my mind!”
you make a move to leave the room, but elvis grabs your arm.
“it’s no use, darlin’. i followed my heart and i gotta pay the price.” he runs a hand through his hair, a sign that his nerves were getting the best of him. you grab his hand and smile reassuringly albeit the pain you felt in your chest.
“how long will you be gone for?”
“two years.”
“two years?!” you shout back, causing the boy to cover your mouth with his hand.
“goddamn (y/n), you want the whole world to hear? i haven’t even told mama yet.”
you look up at the blue eyed boy with sad eyes, your body noticeably relaxing as you realize how badly he needs a friend right now.
elvis drops his hand from your mouth and allows you to fall into his arms, your arms wrapping tightly around him so as to not let him go.
he sniffles, resting his chin in your hair.
“i’ll look after her, e. i promise.”
𓍊𓋼𓍊
not even six months after elvis was gone, you had found gladys unconscious at the top of the steps. your heart shattered as you fell to your knees, trying to wake the elder woman up.
you couldn’t help the sobs that ripped painfully through your soul. not only had you lost someone who was like a mother figure to you, you had broken your promise to elvis”
vernon came running up the stairs at the sound of your cries, his shaky hands pulling you away from her as he too tried to wake her.
it was no use.
on august 14th, 1958, you had lost the one person who knew of your condition and loved you through it.
elvis came back home for a brief period of time, but it was like seeing a ghost. you stayed to yourself, not having the strength to face him. you knew you should’ve been there for him, but every time you convinced yourself to go, you’d find yourself not able to leave the threshold of your door.
not too long after gladys’ passing, grandma dodger was gone too.
graceland had become the shell of a home. it was typically only you and vernon in the home, cousin billy occasionally making an appearance.
a year passed. you busied yourself with work, going back to bussing tables at club handy.
you hadn’t been sick as much, which seemed to be the only plus to elvis being gone. there were some nights, however, when you would think too hard about what he was probably doing in germany and found yourself coughing up petals.
by the time he had returned, seeing elvis was like seeing a stranger.
you all would eat supper together, but the table was silent.
*:・゚✧ ‘63
today was a day like any other, the three of you sitting at the table, listening to the cheerful sounds from cousin billy and his friends outside.
“‘cilla is movin’ in pretty soon.” elvis speaks after he swallows a bite of his food.
you keep your eyes focused on your food, your throat starting to feel thick.
“that’s great, son! when’s the wedding?”
at the sound of those words, you can’t bear to hear anymore. you excuse yourself from the table and walk to your room.
your stomach churns at the thought of living here, hopelessly in love with your childhood best friend as he married another. it didn’t help that your room was right below his.
your thoughts run wild, tears wetting your eyes as you look around the room and begin frantically throwing stuff into a suitcase.
you can’t stay. it’ll kill you.
with tears still running down your face you make your way into the hall bathroom, grabbing a couple of toiletries to bring along with you.
what you don’t expect is to turn around and walk straight into a strong chest.
“just where do ya think you’re goin’?” his thick southern accept sends a chill down your spine.
you muster enough strength to look him in the eye despite the tears still visibly falling.
“i think it’s about time i go out on my own.” you quickly brush past him and head back to your room, but elvis is hot on your tail.
“no one said you had t’do that.”
“i did.” you continue packing your stuff, more furiously than before, “you haven’t even paid me any mind since mama died. i’m not stayin’ here feelin’ like a burden any longer.”
elvis snatches your suitcase from you, not paying any mind to the contents that spray all over. his usually lively blue eyes are dark, storms thundering in them.
“you were the one who stopped payin’ me any mind.”
you ignore him, bending down to pick up your items. you continue to walk around him, packing more things as he stands there, discontent radiating from his body.
the taller male grabs you by the arm, keeping you in place right in front of him.
“look at me, darlin’.”
you obey almost immediately, your lip quivering.
elvis’ eyes seem to look at you, really look at you for the first time in years. he hadn’t noticed how frail you’d gotten, how your (e/c) eyes were sunken and dull, how your seemed like you were struggling just to stand. he frowns, wiping a few tears from your cheeks.
“why’re you leavin’ me, (y/n)?”
“i—“
but its cut off by a gag, and the sudden urge to run. he follows you, but youre too fast, slamming the bathroom door in his face and locking it tight.
his head rests against the door as he listens to you retch, his chest constricting in pain at the sound of your cries.
“satnin, you’ve gotta tell me what’s goin’ on.” he calls, but you don’t respond. he stands there for a solid thirty minutes before getting impatient and going to the kitchen to find something to pick the lock with.
the sight before him makes him immediately fall to his knees beside you.
it seemed like you had no energy to even open your eyes, your head laid against the toilet, the contents of your stomach still threatening to escape.
“i’m sorry.” your voice is barely above a whisper, cracky and pained.
the raven haired male brings you to his lap, holding your head against his chest as he reassures you it’ll all be okay.
he couldn’t help but look into the toilet in fear.
no longer were there tiny petals, but full on flowers.

“how’s (y/n) doing?” priscilla asks her boyfriend, the two of them sat at the table for breakfast.
despite your protests, he had told you to stay. you were too weak to do anything, your condition worsening once priscilla officially moved in.
elvis hadn’t said anything to you about that night, only making sure that the maids brought you food and checked on you hourly.
“she says she’s alright, but she looks worse then ever.”
“do you know who it is?”
elvis only shakes his head, oblivious to the obvious.
“i’m gonna go check on her.” the brunette says softly, leaving a long kiss on elvis’ cheek before heading down the hall.
she knocks gently, hearing a soft and raspy come in from the other side of the door.
you smile at her, sitting up in bed to let her sit next to you. despite the pain it caused you, you could tell that priscilla was good for elvis.
unlike dixie, she cherished the fact that he had grown up with you, always including you and even taking the time to get to know you.
“you doing alright, (n/n)?” she rests her hand on yours, holding it gently.
“i know you know, ‘cilla.” you sigh, a sad expression on your face, “and i’m so sorry. i wish i could change it. i wish it was anyone but him.”
priscilla tuts, “don’t say that, love. we can’t control who we fall for.”
“did you tell him? he seems distant.”
“he’s just really worried for you, he doesn’t know what to do with himself. i know you guys had a rough patch but you’ve always had a special place in his heart. he used to tell me stories about your childhood all the time in germany.” the brunette hands you the glass of water on your nightstand as she notices you struggling to clear your throat, “you should tell him now, (y/n).”
you quickly shake your head, “it won’t change anything. he loves you.”
“quite frankly i think he’s just settling for me.” the girl chuckles solemnly, “i wont let you die without having tried. i’ll tell him to come to you now.”
priscilla doesn’t give you a chance to turn her down, leaving a small peck on your forehead and rushing out the room.
minutes later, elvis comes in with a concerned look.
“‘cilla said you needed me. you alright, doll?”
you nod, motioning for him to join you on your bed. he obeys, sliding his shoes off and sitting criss cross applesauce beside you. you can’t help but giggle at the sight, his long limbs looking uncomfortable.
you grab his hand once he’s situated, not able to ignore the wince as he notices your frail hand.
“there’s something i need to tell you.”
“what is it, (y/n)?”
“i’m sure you’ve been rackin’ your brain tryna figure out why i have this disease.” you sigh, acknowledging the small nod he gives you, “a-and i’m sorry i kept it hidden from you for so long. i first found out about it when i turned eighteen. it was little petals here and there, and i would only cough. b-but as time passed, it progressed. it didn’t take long for me to connect the dots. for me to realize that it was happening because i…”
elvis looks at you expectantly, having craved this moment since he held you on that bathroom floor.
“you can tell me, baby. i want to help you anyway i can.” he brushes a lone tear off your cheek.
“it was happening because i fell in love with you.”
you close yours, not strong enough to look in your best friend’s eyes and see nothing but rejection. you’re surprised when you feel his hand caress your cheek.
“open your eyes, darlin’.”
and you do. and your pounds at how close he is to you, how his eyes search your face desperately for signs of a lie. you furrow your brows.
“why’re you lookin’ at me like that?”
elvis laughs, a few tears springing to his eyes. “cause it’s always been you.”
“don’t do that.” you beg, “i’ve known you for forever elvis. i watched you go after women day and night.”
“because i thought i couldn’t have you, (y/n). like you said, you’ve known me for forever. i didn’t think you could see me as anything more than family.”
you laugh at that, bewildered at the secrets suddenly coming to light. had you really been so blind?
“‘member when we were kids, livin’ at the home on audubon? mama had set up a lil makeshift tent for us in the backyard and we would spend every weekend in it?”
you nod, “what about it?”
“th-there was one weekend when we decided to stay the night out there, and we were watching the stars. i looked over at you a-and i just knew. i even told mama that morning i was gon’ marry you one day.”
you giggle through your tears, searching his eyes for truth and finding all of the above.
“why’d it take so long, e?” you whimper, the memories of all those lonely nights of pain and puking resurfacing.
“i lost who i was, baby. at first i was just scared, and then all of a sudden my career took off, then mama died, and i…i’m so sorry.”
he rests his forehead against yours, pulling your weak body into him.
you want to kiss him. you want to seal the deal now. you’re ready to spend the rest of your life with him, not wanting to waste another second.
but, “what about priscilla?”
elvis sighs, about to open his mouth to speak but the girl herself cuts him off.
“priscilla will be okay.” she says from the doorway, her own set of tears collecting in her eyes, “i’m just glad you’ll live, (n/n).”
you force yourself to get up, legs shaky as you make your way to the brunette and engulf her in a hug.
“thank you so much.” you sniffle.
“i’m going to go pack.” she smiles grievously, “i’d better get going.”
you nod, making your way back to your bed. elvis gives you a look and you nod, watching as he quickly follows after her.
“‘cilla.” he calls, stopping her on the steps.
“it’s okay, elvis. i knew the moment you started talking about her that it wasn’t meant to be.”
“can i at least have one of my men drive you?” he asks.
priscilla doesn’t see a point in opposing, so she nods. the taller of the two nods as well, before taking her into a gentle hug.
“you’re always welcome here, okay?”
“okay.”
*:・゚✧ ‘67
“hold on, let me get a picture of the newlyweds!” vernon smiles, snapping a quick shot of you and elvis.
despite his career, elvis wasted no time in taking the next steps with you. fifteen years was too long to have missed with you, so he made time for you everyday.
you look over at the man before you, amazed at how much more handsome he’d gotten throughout the years. your heart was pounding happily in your chest, still half expecting this to be a dream.
your wedding was small, held in the meditation garden at graceland.
as your reception came to a close and guests began to leave, you and elvis held one another, swaying to the soft music playing from the record player.
the raven haired man kisses the top of your head, your nose, your cheek, and then your lips.
you hum in content, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“i love you, sugar.” he whispers in your ear, sending shivers down your spine.
“i love you t-“ you run down the hall to the bathroom, not bothering to close the door as you fall to the ground and let out a heave.
elvis, as usual, is on your tail. he rubs your back soothingly, whilst pinching his nose at the smell.
you flush the toilet and brush your teeth, heart fluttering as you look in the mirror and catch elvis eyeing you adoringly.
“mama would be proud.” he smiles, hands snaking around your wakes and resting on your tough stomach.
you can’t help but smile back, your stomach fluttering. only this time, it was the result of your love and not the lack thereof.

Reminder
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Right before you leave to go meet up with Elvis friends to go to a Halloween festival you say something to piss him off. His punishment for you is next level.
Warnings: Mean!Elvis, OVERSTIMULATION (seriously), Pentrative Sex, Face Fucking, Cum holding? (you’ll see), Fuck Machine, Oral (female and male recieving), Jeslousy (reader gets jealous), Snowballing, Passing out, and Squriting.
You're in the bathroom and you smile at the end result as you spend about 2 hours getting ready and you were proud of your accomplishment. “Baby you're almost done in there?” your boyfriend said in his southern drawl. Smiling, you turn and look at him showing off your outfit that was matching with his.
Grabbing your hand he lifts it up. “Give me a twirl lil mama” with a giggle you do a light spin as he whistles in a low tone. “You lookin fine tonight baby, we gotta hurry up and go though everybody is already at Jerry’s house” he explained rushing you out of the bathroom.
Right as you guys were about to make it out of your shared room the phone starts to ring off the hook. Elvis goes to pick it up and you're immediately annoyed by the voice you can hear on the other side of the phone. It was Jenny the girl that was obviously trying to fuck your boyfriend.
She was a friend of the guys which you guess apparently makes her a friend of Elvis. Rolling your eyes you sit on the bed not even wanting to go anymore. “Yeah i’m going to be there Jenny, me and my girl are going to be there.” After she heard Elvis say that she sounded a little annoyed and you got fed up.
“Hang up the phone Elvis” you say to him with an angry look in your eye. If looks could kill he would be 6 feet under by now. “Baby calm down-” he was cut off by the chihuahua that was on the other line. “Elvis, is that your dog in the background? Tell her I said hello” widening your eyes you reach up and snatch the phone right out of his hands.
“Jenny don’t act all tough over the phone as soon as I see you I’m going to fuck you up, and stop calling my mans phone before I- “ you didn’t get to finished your sentence because Elvis hang up and slammed the phone back on the wall looking as angrey as a bull.
“Why do you always give them something to talk about?” he said really calmly “What are you talking about?” you ask tilting your head with a look of confusion. Shaking his head he continues “If I know I love you and you know I love you why do you let the other bullshit bother you?”
You huff of course he wouldn't understand he almost never does. Suddenly he got close to your face “Answer me women” you didn’t know what to say you knew he would never give her the time of day but the fact that she kept trying really irked your soul.
“I don’t know Elvis I just don’t like the fact that she still tries” Elvis let out a deep sigh “ I would never even let her get the chance and the fact that you don’t trust me enough to know that really pisses me off, We were going to have a good time but now that you runied it your not going any going any fucking where.”
Scoffing you look at him “You wouldn’t be saying all this if you were in my shoes, why don’t I just give Daren from the convenience store a call and see if he would like to come to the festival since your going to occupied already maybe this time i’ll actually have a trustworthy man with me.”
Having enough of you he stomps to the closet pulling out a ribbon and he walks over to where you were sitting on the bed and makes you lay in the middle of it. “Take off all of your clothes, this is going to be the only time I tell you.” You listen to him and go to sit down on the bed after you finished with your nipples getting hard at the coldness in the room.
“Since you want to act like you have an untrustworthy man i’m going to show you an untrustworthy man looks like and when I come back were going to show her who I really come back home to at night and who i’ll be making MY wife, but until then you need to learn that we move as one unit, Okay mama” he rambled as he tied your wrist to the top of the bed and moved onto your ankles at the end of the bed.
Watching him you're completely restricted and you can’t move around that much. Elvis goes back into the closet moving deeper into the room and your eyes widen when you notice what he’s pushing out. “Remember that Dildo I had shaped for you when I went on tour, well I got a machine along with it to keep you company and what better time to use it to show you that you'll never going to be able to get rid of me even when i'm not here”
Your legs were all the way open and the Dildo that was attached to the machine and it was able to reach your pussy all the way from the end of your bed. Elvis puts his face in between your legs and you can feel his breath on your center. He sticks his whole tongue inside of you with no warning. Arching your back you can already feel him start to drool on your pussy making it more wet. He flicks his tongue faster on your clit wasting no time trying to get you to your climax.
You buckle your hips as much as you can and you finally come undone as you feel Elvis moan into your pussy. After he’s done riding out your orgasm he positions the dildo inside of you without starting the machine. Unbuckling his pants he moves toward the top of the bed where your head is and takes his cock out and he positions your head where he wants it to be.
He quickly shoves his whole cock into your mouth not caring about your gag reflex and your eyes immediately start to water, ruining your eyeliner and mascara. “I’m going to cum in your mouth and I don’t want you to swallow not even one drop I want you to taste me on your tongue while your getting fucked to obliviation.” Moaning around his length you feel his cock twitch and a flood of cum rushes into your mouth also causing you to choke on it but you keep it in when you remind yourself of Elvis words.
He bends over giving you a kiss to your closed mouth before he uses his thumbs to wipe off the tears on your face. “I love you mama.” he said as he buckled his pants and began walking out the bedroom making sure to put the machine in its highest setting.
You cry out as you hear the door close downstairs knowing that he already left, you were already so sensitive. You didn’t know how you were going to take this much pleasure. All you could hear was your wetness pussy getting strength out by the fast pace machine as you cream on for the first time of the night shaking as you do.
Elvis cum is still warm in your mouth as a drop spills over your lips due to you not trying to moan while the dildo plummets inside of you over and over again. You're on your third orgasm of the night when you feel your walls clench down on the toy and shake as your release hits you like a bus.
Soon after two more orgasms your vision starts to get blurry and your body starts to feel hot as your cum starts to travel past your pussy lips. After one more toe curling orgasm you pass out still feeling the mold of your boyfriend's cock stab your cervix.
TWO HOURS LATER
Elvis finally makes his way home and he immediately goes to check up on you in your shared bedroom. When he makes it inside he is completely turned on by the sight of your completely fucked out eyes and your legs wide open.
Walking over to you he cups his hands around your face as he starts to scatter kisses everywhere. You wake up with a whine making sure not to spill his cum as he finally attaches his lips to yours mixing his cum and both of your saliva together. When you break apart a thick string of a mix of saliva and cum connects you guys as the machine is still going and you swallow the remaining cum in your mouth before you cry out trying to free yourself of the ribbon that was around your wrist and legs.
Elvis reaches over and turns off the machine looking at your swollen abused pussy he starts to coo at you. “Aw you did such a good job for me mama can you please give me one more? This time it will be with my cock and then we can go to sleep and we can sleep in all day tomorrow. How does that sound mama?”
You nod your head not wanting to talk, your throat was already feeling scratchy. “Thank you so much baby, I’m going to make you feel so good” He moves to untie your wrist and your ankles and after he takes off all of his clothes. He also goes to dial a number on the phone and lays it down on the dresser right next to the bed.
Getting in between your legs for the second time tonight he wastes no time with entering his cock inside of you, hissing at the contact he moves a little slower with a smile on his face. “Your so fucking beautiful how could you ever think I could go for another, your the only one for me, okay baby?” Elvis preached with nothing but love and admiration in his voice.
“I don’t know baby I’m sorry for saying all those things earlier, I know that we belong to each other and I’m happy that you respect that” you said with your voice quivering because the feeling of euphoria was hitting 10 times harder now that Elvis was inside of you.
“It my job as a man to take you feel like your the only one and you are the only one for me, fuck anyone else that tries to get in between us” he picked up he pace now all you could hear is your skin slapping together all through the room.
“Oh Elvis I’m going to cum baby” Elvis groans as he feels himself about it fall over the edge as well “I am too where do you want me baby?” “Inside please make me a mother Elvis!” You squealed as you felt the tension snap in your lower abdomen as you released all over yourself, Elvis and the bed that you share together.
Soon after your boyfriend comes inside you and makes sure to keep his cum inside as you guys take deep breaths after the release you guys just experienced. He lays next to you and starts to brush your hair out of your face humming a new song he’s working on.
Suddenly you hear an annoying high pitch voice disturb you guys out of your bliss. “Fuck you Elvis!” Jenny yelled before the line went to bed. You and Elvis face each other for a couple of seconds for the two of you burst out in laughter.
After a couple of minutes you guys settle down. “I love you lil mama” Elvis said as he pressed a kiss to your forehead “I love you Elvis” you said as you snuggled deep into his chest going into a peaceful slumber with the love of your life by your side.
Please let me know how you guys like this one ☺️

— dirty dancing, part 8. (hate our love).
pairing: austin!elvis x black!fem!oc (cynthia)
summary: there are moments where elvis and cynthia are reminded that the world is still slow to change.
warning: language, discussion about racism and discrimination.
song reference: hate our love, queen naija ft. big sean.
note: long time, no see.
potential tag list (these people tend to interact the most. let me know if you want to be added/removed): @neeville @dulcewrites @crash-and-cure @cvpidspearl @blackwriter48 @wonderprince @venus2eros @adoreyouusugar @sunshinetoday1 @cosmic-parker @wacoshuffle @kaitaesupremacy
“I am so sick of this shit,” Cynthia grumbled lowly. “Always talkin’ shit about what doesn’t concern them.” Her disgruntled demeanor caught the attention of those in the living room of the illustrious Graceland estate. She tore her trench coat off her shoulders and flung it across the room. Down when a portrait of her and her lover at the courthouse. Her heeled boots shook the floor with every step she took.
“Cyn, baby!” Elvis shot up from the couch at her outburst. Confused mumbles and incoherent conversations arose at the sudden outburst. Never had they seen her act out of character, ever. And it was a concerning scene to watch play out. Jerry ushered Elvis to follow her, insisting they’d come back when she was calm.
Elvis stepped over the fallen portrait and raced up the spiral steps. He called her name like a child begging for its mother. Their bedroom door was cracked and only a slither of light entered. He pushed the door open slowly and saw Cynthia shuddering on the freshly made bed. Her body shook as gentle sobs fell from her lips. Elvis frowned.
“Cyn?” Elvis kicked off his white, leather boots and crawled onto the bed behind her. Curled into a ball like a child, she was, into the bear her father gifted her during her younger days. He frowned. “Will you talk to me?” Elvis touched her hand gently. She jerked away. He frowned.
“They hate me, Elvis,” she muttered after some time. “Everyone hates me because the man I love likes colored women. God forbid a white man like a Black woman.” A few more disgruntled rambles came from her.
He didn’t know how she felt. But, he knew how he felt. He’d spent almost ten years with her, and from the beginning, her fear of being hated by the world suffocated her until she was blue in the face. When they made their public debut the morning after their wedding, her nightmares came to fruition. The slurs, the hate mail, the blackmail, and all the like came crumbling like a freshly destroyed building. They stayed in Graceland for 21 days straight, because God forbid a white man like a Black woman, and let alone make her his wife.
Over time, people had gotten used to it, or at least pretended. Especially as the number of interracial couples increased. However, it did not eliminate the struggles they faced as an interracial couple in a racist country. There were plenty of stares, devilish comments, and threats on the lives of themselves and those around them.
“There’s nothin’ to hate, baby. It ain’t nothin’ more than ignorant, immature people who can’t see the bigger picture. Don’t nobody deserve to not love who they want to because of skin color. Yeah, we see it, but it’s not somethin’ to measure your goodness off of.” Elvis wrapped an arm around her. He leaned over her shoulder and tapped the stuffed animal a time or two. She lowered it slowly and tucked it under her chin. “I can’t imagine how you’re feelin’ right now, darlin’, but whatever you feel and whenever you feel it, lay it all on me. I don’ ever want you to feel like you can’t talk to me.”
“Why would I talk to your head off about what you don’t understand, Elvis?”
Ouch. Elvis huffed and sat up straight. He tugged her up with him. She did not make eye contact with him. Her chin was lowered and her arms strangled her stuffed animal.
“Because when I decided you were the one I wanted to spend my life with, I decided that I’d be the one to help carry the burden of what you deal with. I don’t understand, baby, I don’t. And I never will as long as I’m not in your shoes. But, I be damned if you think that just because that’s the case, that I can’t be a pillar for you to lean on when you can’t hold yourself up. I’m always here for you, Cyn.” Elvis’ thumb caressed Cynthia’s damp cheek. She leaned into his touch.
“They gon’ hate us, hate you regardless, baby. It ain’t stoppin’ nothin’ between us, you understand me?” She nodded slowly. “Come here.”
She abandoned her stuffed animal and let it rest against a strategically propped pillow. Cynthia’s manicured hands hiked up her pant leg to allot for movement and tucked herself under her husband’s arm. Elvis’ hand fell at her waist and squeezed.
“I love you, Cyn. Don’t forget that.”
“I love you, too, E.P.”

Why Marry
Tumblr media
Pairing: Elvis Presley x black!reader
Word Count: 13.3K (I got carried away again, I’m not sorry)
Summary: Elvis and Y/N are childhood sweethearts in Tupelo, Mississippi. The love that they have for one another even blossoming when he moves off to Memphis. While he is away in Germany, Y/N marries another man. As time goes on, the two sweethearts grow distant, but can distance cause the heart to grow fonder?
Warnings: ANGST, reader marries another man, mentions of the colonel, a few time skips, talks about Elvis at Sun Records, eventual smut, FLUFF, happy ending for the two
A/N: This is the third installment of my Sweet Inspirations inspired saga. This one a bit sadder than the rest, but I hope that it doesn’t deter you from reading. The fic is based off of The Sweet Inspiration’s ‘Why Marry’. If you would be so kind, check the song out! It’s really good! Like truly! I’m not really good at writing angst, but I think I did a pretty good job at writing this one. It made me cry. As always, I hope you guys enjoy :)
Tumblr media
There are two types of childhood sweethearts: the seasonal sweethearts and the lifelong sweethearts. You would like to think that as long as you knew Elvis, he would be your lifelong sweetheart. You and Elvis were always together, ever since you were kids. There was never a place you or he would go without one another. You were born and raised in Tupelo, living at the Shake Rag because your father left your mother when she was pregnant with you. She was forced to penny pinch and work multiple jobs even after you were born. Your grandmother would watch you, catching on early that you were ever the social butterfly. There was never a stranger that you knew, always wanting to help out even if you didn’t have the financial means to do so.
Elvis and his mother, Gladys, arrived at Shake Rag when he was a child as his father was carted away to jail for financial troubles. Your mother and grandmother welcomed her and her son with open arms, sometimes inviting them over for dinner when things were a little too rough for them. They even admired little Elvis because he took on the responsibilities of being the man of the house, working alongside his mother so that she wouldn’t have to suffer and struggle alone. At first, he was shy. He wouldn’t speak a word when you would try to share your toys or when you would invite him out to play with you and the other kids.
As time went on, you didn’t even remember that he was once the shy kid who spent his time reading his Captain Marvel Jr comic books. The only thing that you did remember was he was your best friend and you were his. The Presley family and your family would continue the ritual of having dinners during the weekends, even welcoming Vernon when he returned to his family after his stint in jail. Vernon was a man of only a few words, but he welcomed you into his family as if you were his own. However, outside of Shake Rag, you couldn’t be seen with them due to your color. Times were hard; sometimes, you would cry because you wanted to attend school with Elvis, having to attend a different school because schools were segregated. “Mama, I don’t understand why I can’t go to school with Elvis. He’s still my best friend.” You would cry into your pillow as your mama tried to console you. “Darling, nothing will change between you and Elvis, but you know how outside people will view your relationship. He’s white and you’re black, baby. That’s the way God created you.”
You would try to not let the situation deter you, waiting for Elvis to return home every afternoon from school. Both of your mothers would let you sit on their porch alternatively, where you would do your homework together. He would even read his comic books to you, telling you his dreams of wanting to fly to the rock of eternity just like his favorite comic book hero. You grew to admire his aspirations, thinking about your hopes and dreams and how Elvis would fit. You could only hope that the world was ready to embrace you and Elvis together.
Your relationship with Elvis would change drastically as he grew into a teenager, puberty nearly catching you by surprise at how handsome he had become. He was finally changing from the shy kid who never went far without his mama to having full confidence due to his looks. You also couldn’t miss how girls would follow him wherever he would go, causing you to experience your first taste of jealousy because you were afraid that you would lose your best friend. However, Elvis would always remind you that you were his bestest girl; that nothing and nobody would ever change that.
You would hold on to his words, noticing how he would linger his gaze on you as puberty finally caught up with you. His eyes would move along your curves, commenting on how the only girl that lived in Shake Rag projects was turning into a woman. You didn’t miss how his hands would linger at the swell of your hips as he would hug you, his touch sending shivers through your body. Times were changing and you weren’t getting any younger. You didn’t know what to do with the feelings that you felt whenever you were around Elvis and you could tell that his feelings were changing from platonic to much more.
One night, Elvis was sitting outside of his house, strumming his guitar that his daddy had bought him from the general store in town. You had finished helping your mother with chores, deciding that you needed some air. You also wanted to catch a glance of the boy who was starting to become the center of your world. He was singing a song that you had heard him sing before; Woody Herman’s ‘Let Me Love You Tonight’ but it was something about the way he crooned that sent your heart reeling.
Let me love you tonight
Let me tell you how much I adore all of your charms
Though you leave me tomorrow, for this night we’ll borrow a love song
Let me love you tonight
Let me thrill to the touch of your sheltering arms
Til the scent of the roses caresses and closes your eyes
You sat down beside him, his eyes staring into yours as he continued to play his guitar. You hummed along with him, closing your eyes as you listened to his crooning and only in that moment, it was the two of you. He finished the song, placing the guitar down beside the rocking chair that he was sitting in. You opened your eyes, looking up at him with a smile, but he didn’t return it. “What’s the matter, honey? You look like you’ve been told some bad news.” He sighed, standing up from the chair before walking towards the side of his porch; his eyes looking towards the night sky. “We are leaving Tupelo.” You stood up in a hurry, walking over to where he was standing; your body facing him as you made sure that you heard him correctly. “Leaving? Where are you going?” You asked, feeling your heart tearing apart at the seams. He turned to face you, his eyes shining with tears as he couldn’t meet your eyes as he started to explain the shift happening in his life.
“We are moving to Memphis. At the end of the week. Daddy got a better job out there, so we are packing up and going with him.” His voice shook as he tried to hold himself together, the pain of having to part from you seemingly turned his world upside down. “Did you just find this out? Why are you only telling me now?” Your eyes filled with tears, unable to hold them back as they freely flowed from your eyes. Elvis took you by the hands, holding them tightly in his as he looked at you. He had never seen you cry like this; sure, he had seen you cry when you were kids when the neighborhood kids would tease you about having cooties, but he had never seen you cry like this. It broke his heart into many pieces, but there was nothing he could do about the situation. “I found out last night, Satnin. I just couldn’t find the words to tell ya. Don’t be mad at me, please? Not when we only have a few days to spend together.” You sniffled at his explanation, looking away from him to look up at the night sky; the stars seemingly not as bright as other nights.
“Satnin, I think before I leave, I have to get some things off of my chest or it’ll kill me.” You looked back at Elvis, pulling your hands away to wipe the tears that were drying on your skin. You nodded your head, crossing your arms to hold yourself as you waited for him to speak. “Y/N, I don’t wanna leave Tupelo without tellin’ ya how I feel about ya. You know you’re my bestest girl and that’ll never change. But, I don’t wanna be friends anymore.” He put his hand up to stop you from responding, taking a deep breath before he stepped forward towards you.
“I don’t want to only be your friend. I don’t wanna be the older brother to ya, I don’t wanna be the boy that you run to when you’re havin’ boy troubles either. I wanna be more than that, lil’.” You shook your head, not comprehending what he was saying, but you kept your mouth shut in hopes that he would connect the missing piece. “What I’m sayin’ is, I’m not good at this confessing type of stuff. I wanna be your boyfriend, honey. I wanna be the one you can run to when you’re having troubles, the one you call when you have exciting things to say. Ya get what I’m saying to ya?”
Elvis looked into your eyes as you stared back at him, unable to fully grasp what he was saying to you. “M-my boyfriend? Well, yeah. I want you to be my boyfriend, Elvis. I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine. I just don’t want you to leave.” You whispered to him, sniffling once again as the tears threatened to flow once again. Elvis wiped your cheeks with his thumbs, pulling you into his arms as his mood shifted from what was somber only a few moments ago. “I’m sure glad to hear that you agree. Mama told me that I should make a move before it was too late, but I’m so glad that you agreed.” At that moment, he pressed his soft lips upon yours, taking you by surprise as he pulled you closer into his embrace. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, kissing him back softly before he pulled away; his eyes moving back up to the night sky that shined brightly as the only peace that was present was having you in his arms.
The week flew by, the pain and heartbreak that you felt grew as you knew that Elvis and his family were leaving. The day that they were due to leave, your family waited in front of their house, helping them pack everything into their family truck. You were clinging on to Elvis, sobbing with grief as he repeated over and over that he would call you every day. As they got everything settled, you were forced to let him go so that he could climb in the truck after his mama. You and your family watched as they pulled away from Shake Rag, Elvis’ eyes never leaving yours until their truck was no longer in sight.
Elvis stayed true to his word, calling you every day and sending letters about his new life in Memphis. He would tell you how much he missed you, how much he wanted you there with him. He had started school shortly after, telling you about how the boys would pick on him because he would walk around the school grounds, strumming his guitar and singing. He would also tell you about how the girls would follow him around, wanting to hear more from the new kid with the southern croon.
School was uneventful for you as you would only go to school and then rush home because you didn’t want to miss a phone call from him. You would beg and plead with your mama to pack up and leave Tupelo behind, wanting to move to Memphis to be closer to Elvis and his family. Gladys would stay in touch with your mother, telling her about the opportunities that Memphis held. It didn’t take much convincing for your mother to agree, so at the end of the following year, your family packed up and moved away from Tupelo, finding a new life in Memphis. Your mother managed to find a cheap home, taking a job as a seamstress in town as you would continue with school. You would eventually pick up a job as well at the local diner downtown in your spare time, but you would also spend as much time as possible with Elvis and his family.

Memphis was much different than the life that you had in Tupelo. You were in another world compared to Shake Rag, so it took some time getting used to. There were places where you couldn’t go, only imagining how life would be if segregation wasn’t a thing. Elvis was about to graduate high school and so were you, so there was no doubt that things were going to change and hopefully for the better. Elvis didn’t have any plans about what he wanted to do after high school, but one thing he knew that he wanted to do was marry you. You were over the moon at the thought of becoming Mrs. Presley, talking to your friends about how you wanted to be by his side every step of the way.
Your mother thought you were crazy, in fact, she made it known that she didn’t think it was a good idea, considering how the world was. “Baby girl, you and Elvis are no longer at Shake Rag. Do you know what people would say if they saw Elvis walking around town with a black girl on his arm? You and him could be in for a world of trouble.” You didn’t care though, dismissing her words as her just being worried. “Mama, I know where you are coming from. Believe me, I’ve seen the hateful looks that I get when I’m walking to work. Elvis ain’t that way and neither is his family. As long as they’ll accept me, nothing else matters.” Your mother would sigh, rubbing your back as she shook her head. “You’ll see, baby. You’ll see.”
You would tell Elvis about the conversations that you and your mother would have, him sighing over the phone as he couldn’t seem to understand how people could have a problem with him wanting to marry the woman that he loved. “Honey, you’re my bestest girl. You know that, right?” You would always tell him that you knew that, but the truth always nagged in the back of your mind that maybe your mother was right. Soon enough, Elvis graduated from Humes and you were on your way to graduating a few days after. During the summer, Elvis would spend time with you at his house where his family would have barbecues and family gatherings. He would always carry his guitar, stating that he never knew when an opportunity would present itself.
At night, he would sit on his porch beside you, singing ballads about love. You knew that he loved you and you loved him just the same. By the time August rolled around, he still had no plans for the future; taking odd jobs to help his family when Vernon couldn’t pay the bills. Although this plan wasn’t getting off the ground, you still supported him in everything that he did. One morning, he called you excited. “What’s going on, Elvis?” You could feel his enthusiasm through the phone, smiling widely as you listened to him speak. “I finally have the chance to go down to Sun Records to record a song! I want ya there with me, baby. Can you come, please?” His boyish whine flipped your heart in your chest, remembering the charm that he had all those years ago in Tupelo.
“Of course, Elvis! I wouldn’t miss anything like this for the world. Are we going today?” Elvis hummed, the tone in his voice made you feel exhilarated. “Yes, I’m gonna come pick ya up shortly! I want ya to dress in your best, this is gonna be the beginning of our lives, Satnin. I’m finally gonna be able to do something other than work on iceboxes.” You hung up with him shortly after, running past your mother as she looked confused at your sudden excitement. “Elvis is going down to Sun Records to perform a record! He wants me to come with him!” She laughed, shaking her head as she told you to be careful and to make sure to be home for dinner. Elvis made it to your house shortly after, honking the horn to get your attention. “Mama, Elvis is here! I’ll be home for dinner, I love you.” You kissed her cheek before running out of the door. Elvis kissed your forehead as you entered his truck, speeding away from your house. On the ride there, Elvis would practice the lines for the songs that he was going to record, you listening with a smile on your face.
You were anxious and rightfully so. You knew that this was a brand new journey for the boy that you loved and yet, you were frightened that he would be let down. You didn’t want to tell him your thoughts, so you kept them at the back of your mind as you neared the recording studio. Elvis didn’t let the car completely shut off before he jumped out of the driver’s side, running around to help you out of the cab of the truck. “Come on, Satnin. I don’t wanna be late.” He grabbed you by the hand, leading you inside. The recording studio was small on the inside, but you were astonished at the sight of guitars and pictures that adorned the walls. “I’m here for the noon recording. I’m Elvis Presley.” The woman looked at him with a smile on her face, handing him the clipboard for him to sign in. “Pleased to meet ya, Elvis. I’m Marion Keisker. If you enter that room right over there, we will get you set up for your session.” Marion looked over at you, a smile on her face as she moved from around the desk.
“Are you here for a session, miss?” You shook your head vigorously, pointing towards the room that Elvis had now disappeared to. “Oh no, ma’am, I’m here with him.” You were waiting for her to look at you in disgust, fearing that she would throw you out of the studio for even thinking about being in the same room as Elvis. Instead, her smile widened as her eyes never left yours. “You’re more than welcome to join him, it looks like he’s gonna need your good luck charms.” She led you into the room, your face in awe at the equipment that looked like it cost more than you made in a week. “Satnin, this is great! Look! They got a picture of B.B. King!” Elvis was like a kid in a candy store, awestruck that he would be recording in the same building as the musicians that he grew up listening to. Marion and a man who was holding the clipboard that she was once holding before, entered shortly after. “Alright, Elvis. I’m Sam Phillips, the owner of Sun Records. Let’s see what songs you got for us.”
Marion stopped Sam before he could leave to go into the booth, turning to Elvis before crossing her arms. “What kind of singer are you, Mister Presley?” Elvis turned around from where he was standing, gripping his guitar as his smile crossed his lips. “I sing all kinds, ma’am. I can sing whatever ya want me to sing.” She smiled, pressing the matter further. “Who do you think you sound like?” Elvis shrugged, his cerulean eyes glittering under the studio lights. He was in his element, you knew it from the time that he walked inside. This was his moment and you were going to be there every step of the way. “Well ma’am, I–I don’t sound like nobody.” Sam nudged Marion, tilting his head toward the booth. “Well, let’s get this show on the road.” Sam and Marion disappeared in the booth, leaving you with Elvis. “You sound like Elvis Presley, honey. That’s good enough for me and it’ll be good enough for everyone else.” Elvis smiled at that, leaning in to kiss your cheek before he moved towards the microphone.
“Alright Elvis, what is the first song that ya wanna record?” Elvis thought for a second before leaning into the microphone. “That’s where your heartaches begin.” You smiled, knowing that was one of the songs that his mother adored. Her birthday was coming soon, so you knew that he wanted one of these songs to be a gift for her. “That’s where your heartaches begin, take one.” Sam spoke, pointing toward Elvis to begin. You sat in a nearby chair, watching as Elvis crooned into the microphone, his fingers strumming on the guitar strings. He sounded beautiful, making you swoon with each word. Elvis may have been playing around when he would sing on some occasions, but you could tell that he was singing from his heart. You looked over at the booth where Marion and Sam were, noticing that Marion looked amazed at how he sounded. You couldn’t help but to smile, knowing that he was sure to be discovered if he kept this up.
Once the recording of the song was finished, Elvis looked over at you with a hopeful smile. You could tell that he was a bit relaxed now, but he was still trembling with nerves as if he was performing before a huge crowd. “You can do this, honey. I believe in you.” The next song was My Happiness, a song that you heard him sing on multiple occasions when it was only you and him. You were sure that this would be your wedding song with him, picturing yourself dancing the night away in his arms after he made you his wife. He winked at you, making your face heat up with ease as he always had done. Sam pointed towards him again, giving him the cue to begin. Elvis took a deep breath, playing on his guitar once again as he began to sing.
Evening shadows make me blue
When each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness
Every day I reminisce
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness
You could do nothing at that moment, the feeling of love pouring out of his soul as you witnessed Elvis doing the thing that he loved. Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes as Elvis continued crooning into the microphone. He was truly out of this world; you knew that this was his time to shine and that he was sharing that light with anyone who would listen. He finished the song as Marion and Sam walked into the room. Marion still had a smile on her face, while Sam clapped his hands in astonishment at the boy who stood before him. “Thank you sir, I really appreciate ya lettin’ me record these songs for my mama.”
Sam patted him on the shoulder, not really saying much words before Elvis took you by the hand, leading you out of the studio. “Do ya think mama would like these records? I feel like Sam didn’t really like it.” Elvis told you as he drove you back to your house. “Are you hearing yourself, Elvis? Your mama will love it! You’re her world. I’m sure they liked the songs too. You are extremely talented, honey. Don’t ever doubt yourself.” Elvis didn’t say anything at that moment, the silence was still nice as the drive continued.
As time went on, Elvis didn’t hear anything from Sam or Marion, so he figured that they didn’t care for the songs. His mother adored them, playing the records until it drove the entire house crazy. You didn’t mind it, supporting Elvis was always something that you loved. As the new year rolled around, Elvis would return to Sun Records to record more songs and you would be there every step of the way. It wasn’t until the following summer that his luck would finally turn around when he had the opportunity to record more songs. Elvis had met new people around that time: Scotty Moore and Bill Black and they had formed their little group “The Blue Moon Boys”. Scotty and Bill had become brothers to you, always happy to see you when Elvis would come around. The summer was grueling and unforgiving in Memphis, but you never swayed in your support of Elvis. You were sitting in the studio again until the night, fanning yourself with one of the lyric papers that Elvis had.
Elvis was growing impatient with the entire thing, hinting on one or more occasions that it was time to lay down the guitar and continue working at the electric company. You were a little worn out at the late nights, but you knew that if he continued on, he would eventually strike gold. Elvis decided that he would be his normal joking self, playing tunes on his guitar as he danced around. He decided to sing Arthur Crudup’s That’s All Right, jumping around and making jokes. Bill and Scotty decided to join in on his shenanigans, thinking that it was only something to lighten the mood. Sam peeked his head out from the booth, listening for a while before he asked them what they were doing. “We don’t know.” Scotty responded, beginning to put down his guitar. “Do it again.” Sam said as he went back into the booth, pointing to Elvis to start again. You were enthralled, watching the boys dance around as Elvis sang into the microphone, not sure what would come out of it.
However, he would soon know what did come out of that night session as three days later, Elvis called you on the phone, telling you to turn on the radio. “They are playing my song, Satnin! Turn on the radio.” You hurriedly ran into the living room, turning on the radio where you heard Elvis’ voice singing through the speakers. You thought that you were dreaming, yelling out for your mother to join you. “Mama! Elvis is on the radio!” Your mother walked into the living room, a smile on her face and you thought you saw a stray tear fall down her cheek as she pulled you into a hug. “I knew Elvis could do it, honey. I’m gonna call Gladys later to congratulate them on raising a superstar.” You were so proud of him, wanting to scream at the top of your lungs that your sweetheart was on every radio station. However, you decided to keep yourself together so that he would thoroughly enjoy this moment.

His stardom didn’t stop on that fateful July afternoon. In fact, he was beginning to perform every chance that he could. You couldn’t go to these performances as much as you wanted to, your mother would remind you repeatedly how dangerous it could be to publicly show your support and love for Elvis. You felt defeated; the thoughts that crossed your mind was nothing short of doubt that your relationship with him would withstand his newfound fame. You could see how the girls liked him, screaming like canaries whenever he was in the room. While he was gone, you wouldn’t hear from him days at a time, but you knew that in your heart that you were his only girl. When Elvis returned from his performances, he had a new person in his circle. He told you that this man was his new manager, someone who could help him with making it mainstream. Colonel Tom Parker was a strange man, in fact, he didn’t look like any colonel that you’ve seen.
Elvis didn’t notice the things that you did, excited at the idea that he would soon star in his first film, ‘Love Me Tender’. The film was a success, shooting Elvis further in the limelight. With Elvis enjoying the attention that he was enjoying, you were suddenly no longer enjoying being left in the dark like a secret. This would start unwarranted arguments between the two of you, leaving cracks that were beginning to show in your relationship. You had never fought with Elvis, even as kids. You could tell that Elvis was blind to the fact that your feelings were beginning to be hurt, not wanting to stand in the way of his success but you also didn’t want to be ignored.
Through all of this, Elvis would constantly remind you that you were his bestest girl and when the time was right, you would be married. This time around, you weren’t so sure if you believed him. He was so far away from you, even if he was in the same room as you. You could only continue supporting him from afar and as much as your mother would tell you that this was the only choice that you had, you were beginning to see that maybe it was the right one.
You would continue working at the diner, taking as many shifts as you could so that you wouldn’t think about losing Elvis. One day, you were working when a man walked into the diner, a smile across his face as you welcomed him. He was handsome; tall but slim, and his brown eyes shined under the light. “Welcome to Maggie’s, I’m Y/N. What can I get for you?” The man smiled at you, reading off his order to you as you jotted it down before turning around to leave. “Wait, ma’am. Would you like to join me?” You were flabbergasted that this man was subtly flirting with you, a pang of guilt hitting your gut as you shook your head. “I can’t do that, sir. I’ll be right back with your meal.” You walked away from him, reading off his order to the cook. You begged your friend, Yvette to take over for you; not wanting to show your face to the man again, in hopes that he wouldn’t speak another word to you.
After much pleading, Yvette agreed. She returned moments later with a sheet of paper, wiggling her brow at you as she smirked. “His name is Charlie.” She walked away from you, leaving you standing in the middle of the kitchen with a sheet of paper with his number scribbled on it. Charlie would become a regular and at first, you would try to avoid him at all costs. However as time went on, he became a dear friend to you. You would speak on the phone with him sometimes, learning that he was a businessman.
You would lean on Charlie whenever Elvis was away, listening to stories about his life and how he moved to Memphis from Chicago. “Chicago? What made you wanna move all the way down here to Memphis?” Charlie would chuckle over the phone, humming under his breath before responding to you. “I used to think the same thing, but now, I have a good reason why I moved down here. I didn’t think I would meet such a beautiful lady as yourself.” You would remind him that you had a boyfriend, but he would tell you that if your boyfriend had any sense, he wouldn’t leave you alone.
Elvis was busy all of the time, traveling back and forth from Memphis to California as his movie career was taking off. You didn’t miss how Elvis would call you sometimes at night, hearing women in the background. He would dismiss your claims of him cheating on you, telling you that he didn’t want to be with anyone other than you. You were growing tired of being away from him, fed up at the fact that you knew that he was lying to you but you couldn’t do anything about it. Then, Elvis returned home for the holidays.
It was 1957, the year had flown by with Elvis being gone and you working as much as you could at the diner. Elvis invited you and your mother to his home for Christmas, telling you that he wanted to celebrate like you had always done. You begrudgingly agreed, but at the back of your mind, it didn’t feel the same. You and your mother arrived at his new home, taking in the atmosphere of being around him and his family. Gladys welcomed you with open arms, hugging you tightly. “We haven’t seen you in a while, sweetheart. How has life been treatin’ you?”
You smiled at her, your heart breaking as you could tell that something was bothering her. “The same old, the shifts at the diner are starting to wear on my body. I think it’s about time that I do something else.” She could only nod, hugging you once again as Elvis entered the room. He wore a frown on his face, his eyes glistening over with tears as he pulled you into his arms. His scent as always sent your heart soaring, wanting to be near him every chance that you could. “What’s the matter, Elvis? You look as if someone died.” You chuckled, but he didn’t return your smile. “I’m being drafted, Satnin. They are sending me away to Germany for two years. Will ya wait for me? I know I’ve had you waiting for me for three years, but all I’m asking is for a little more time. When I come home, we can get married and you’ll never have to be away from me again.” You were beside yourself at that moment, tears pricking at your eyes as you glared up at him.
“I’ve been waiting for the moment when I could marry you and now you’re just leaving? Like that?” Your mother looked at you with a look of grief, knowing that your heart was breaking at the words that were passing his lips. “I don’t have a choice, baby. You know if I dodge the draft, I could be arrested. I don’t wanna ruin everything that I’ve ever worked for.” You pulled away from him, taking in the looks from everyone who was witnessing the news. Gladys was crying in her hands, while Vernon was holding her in his arms. Your mother couldn’t say a word, only patting the tears in her eyes at the sight of her daughter’s outburst. “Baby, calm down. Elvis has to go, but he will be back. Don’t worry yourself sick.” You shook your head as you ran out of the house, ignoring the calls from Elvis and your mother. You had to get out of there, not wanting to break down in front of your mother and his family.
This is it. You’re losing him forever. Elvis is no longer the man that will be your husband, the father of your children, your best friend. He was going to Germany and you don’t even know if he would come home. Your brain screamed at you, causing more tears to flow as you were forced to accept that the cracks that were forming in your relationship with him were now ripping it down the middle. Your mother returned home later that evening, knocking on your bedroom door.
She peeked her head in, her heart breaking as she saw you staring at the picture that you had of you and Elvis as kids. You were happier then, the fame and the women didn’t exist. He only had you and you had him, but things were different now. “He’s leaving after the new year, baby. He told me to tell you that he loved you and that he hopes you’ll be waiting for him when he returns.” You turned your head, eyes glazed over with tears as you shakingly sobbed. “I don’t think he will want me when he comes back, mama. I think we are over.”
She sighed as she entered your room, sitting next to you on your bed before pulling you into her arms. “If it is meant to be, baby. If it’s meant to be, he will come back to you. You know that.” You shook your head as you sobbed in her arms. She didn’t say anything else, only holding you until you fell asleep in her arms. She was your comfort and she had always been, even when Elvis was around. As time ticked closer to Elvis’ departure, you would avoid him. You wouldn’t return his calls; you were in so much pain that you couldn’t bear to hear his voice. You would even turn the radio when you heard his songs playing. It was as if you were completely shutting him off from you, distancing yourself from him as much as you could.
Tumblr media
It was finally time for Elvis to ship out to Germany. Your mother was on the phone with Gladys as she cried over the fact that her son was leaving. You would listen behind the door, sobbing quietly as you knew that it was the beginning of the end. The love of your life was leaving and you were so out of it that you didn’t spend as much time as you wanted with him. Your mother called for you, opening the door to the kitchen before handing you the phone. “Elvis wants to talk to you.” You shook your head, pushing the handle of the phone away from you.
“Baby, please. Talk to him. He has something he wants to say.” You sighed, taking the phone from her hands as you put it up your ear. “Elvis?” Your voice shook with so much emotion that nothing else could pass your lips but his name. “Satnin, I know you’ve been avoiding me. I know why, but I want ya to know that I really meant what I said. I’m gonna marry ya when I come home, so please…wait for me.” You could hear his sniffles, your heart breaking all over again as you nodded your head. “I’ll wait for you Elvis. I’ll try to wait for you.” Elvis told you that he loved you for one last time before the phone hung up.
You placed the phone back on the hook, sobbing in your hands as he was gone. He was gone and he would be gone for a while, but you were still consumed with the pain that it would be all over. You could only deal with the pain as you always had, taking shifts at the diner, where you would run into Charlie. As time went on, you would lean on Charlie to take the pain of Elvis’ absence away, eventually going on a few dates with him.
You thought nothing would come out of it, only taking him up on his offer because you were lonely. A year into Elvis’ deployment, you were suddenly engaged to be married. Charlie had become a favorite of your mother, always bringing flowers to the house when he would pick you up for your dates. You thought that your mother would be ashamed that you were cheating on Elvis, but she would tell you that maybe this was for the best. After all, Elvis was across the world and he was even far away even when he was in Memphis.
Your mother approved of Charlie, noticing how he treated you wonderfully. The wedding planning was done by your mother; she would ensure that her little girl had the most memorable day of her life. You wish you could say that it would be memorable, but you were guilty that the man that you were marrying wasn’t Elvis. Your mother would still keep in contact with Gladys, gushing about the upcoming nuptials between you and Charlie.
You knew that Gladys would tell Elvis, but you knew that he would be powerless to stop it. Besides, you heard from Gladys that Elvis had met a girl in Germany and that he was spending all of his time with her. Gladys sounded regretful over the phone, apologizing profusely that she hoped that it didn’t ruin your big day. You knew that Gladys wasn’t telling you the news because she didn’t care about you. It was quite the opposite, she wanted you to know that you weren’t in the wrong for finding your own happiness.
However, happiness didn’t exist in your world without Elvis in it. The wedding day went by in a blur; you couldn’t even remember your wedding dress, the champagne, or the wedding cake. Charlie was a wonderful man, but he would be gone for weeks on end due to his business. It was as if you were destined to be alone; your husband flying to different states for conferences and meetings and your childhood sweetheart was stationed on the other side of the world with another woman who easily took your place. You were alone, being the dutiful housewife that you could only imagine being while married to Elvis. You would cook for your husband whenever he was home, making sure that the house remained tidy and clean. But no matter how much you played into the role of being someone else’s wife, your mind would always linger to Elvis.
It wasn’t easy for you to continue on with the marriage, but you forced yourself to do so. Time would continue to go by; the days growing closer to when Elvis would return back from Germany. You didn’t know how you could face him, knowing that he would be betrayed that the woman that claimed to love him was now married to someone else. Elvis would finally return home from the Army, glowing with excitement as he was welcomed warmly. You watched on your television on the day of his arrival, fans beaming with happiness and crying that their beloved idol was finally back safely. You wish you were there, wanting nothing more than to wrap your arms around him, kissing him again. He had returned more handsome than ever, his jawline being more prevalent than the way you remembered.
As you watched his press conference, you sobbed at his cheekiness, knowing that he used to act the same way with you. You were still in love with him, not wanting to accept the cruel reality of it all. You figured that if you would revolve your world around your marriage to Charlie, you could forget how much you did love him. Charlie could sense that you weren’t the same, often forgoing sleeping in the same room as you because he didn’t like how you kept him awake at night as you sobbed in your pillow, hoping that he didn’t hear. The marriage didn’t last long, you couldn’t bear continuing to lie that you loved Charlie. “I can’t continue lying to you, Charlie. I want a divorce.” Charlie wasn’t shocked, shaking his head as he forced a smile on his face.
“It’s Elvis, isn’t it? Your mother told me all about your story with him. I can’t say I’m not surprised, but I also can’t say that I’m not disappointed that I can’t even keep my wife away from him.” You knew he was right, every woman in the world wanted him. You were no exception. The only difference between you and those women was that you had history with Elvis, the kind of history that these women could only dream about. The divorce was grueling but oddly smooth. Charlie didn’t want anything from you and neither did you with him. Charlie would tell you that you could still be friends, packing up his things as he decided that he would move back to Chicago with his family.
Your mother moved in with you shortly after the divorce was finalized, helping keep a roof over your head as the divorce was a burden on your finances. Here you were again, alone and on the verge of losing everything that you have but you couldn’t lie to yourself that the only thing that got you through was Elvis. Your mother would tell you that you should forget about him, the only thing that your relationship with him gave you was heartbreak. “Mama, I can’t forget about him. I love him and I know he still loves me too. We literally have so many memories together, you can’t forget about decades of loving each other.” You decided that you would face him again, after all, he was your best friend before anything else. Your mother, a little weary about the whole situation, ultimately agreed as she phoned Vernon to see if Elvis was settled in. Gladys, Elvis’ beloved mother had passed away almost two years ago, which had broken your heart completely.
She was like another mother to you, someone you would talk to when missing Elvis had become too much to ignore. You knew that Elvis knew that you were still in contact with his family, but he never reached out to you. How could he? You had sworn that you would wait for him, yet, you married Charlie and ultimately became the girl who had broken his heart. People knew that there was a girl who had gotten away while he was away, but he played it off to the media as if there were no such thing. The least you could have done was apologize to him, even beg him to believe that you still loved him. Vernon told your mother that Elvis was home, resting for a couple of weeks before he picked up where he had left off. You didn’t waste any time, the following day, you made the frightening journey to Graceland. Graceland hadn’t changed since the last time you were there, in fact, it was still as beautiful as it was when you had left.
His Uncle Vestor was surprised to see you, pulling you into a hug as he held a look of relief that you weren’t one of those fans who would try to push by him for a look at their idol. “Y/N, my word. You haven’t aged a day, you still look just as beautiful as you always have.” Your face heated up at the compliment, eyes traveling past him to look at the mansion that sat beautifully behind the gates. “I’m here to see Elvis, Uncle Vestor. Can you let me in?” He nodded happily, pressing the button which allowed the gates to open. Your heart flipped in your chest, knowing that the time was finally here. You were going in with no perception about how your reunion with Elvis would go, but you wanted him to at least hear you out first. As your car pulled up the long road, your heartbeat was the only thing that you could hear. You know there’s a chance that Elvis wouldn’t want to see you again, so why are you here? Your thoughts questioned your decision as you exited the car, seeing Vernon standing at the door with a small smile on his face.
“Little dancer, how are ya?” Vernon pulled you into a hug, a knowing look across his face as he knew that you would be coming. “I’m doing alright, my mother sends her love. Does he know that I’m here?” Vernon stopped in his tracks, staring into your brown eyes before shaking his head. “I haven’t told him, he hasn’t done anything but linger around the house and play around with his friends. He hasn’t left his room yet today.” You sighed, dread settling in the pit of your stomach as Vernon led you inside of the house. He pointed up the stairs before leaving you standing alone in the foyer. Maybe you should leave. You’re nothing to him now but a stranger, let’s leave it the way that it is. You ignored your thoughts, slowly making your way up the stairs, playing multiple scenarios in your head as you followed where you knew he would be. You stood in front of his door, your heart racing at this point.
Part of you wanted to turn around and run out of the house, knowing that what you did was unforgivable. However, the other part of you deserved to explain to him that you had never intended to hurt him. You were living with so much guilt that your marriage didn’t last, so you could say that karma had paid you a visit. You knocked on the door, hearing shuffling from behind it before the man that you thought about night and day stood before you. The pictures in the newspaper and the conference on the television did no justice; he was still as handsome as ever. His eyes widened with surprise as he pulled you into his arms, not sure if he was dreaming that you were standing in front of him. You wrapped your arms around him, rubbing his back as you heard little sniffles passing his beautiful lips.
“Satnin. You–What are you doin’ here?” You looked up at him, tears glistening in your eyes as you studied his features. You were memorizing every part of him, not wanting to forget how he made you feel. “I wanted to come see how you were doing. I’m sorry for not coming earlier, it was a lot happening all at once.” Charlie didn’t mind that you had a relationship with his family, even being supportive when you decided to go to Gladys’ funeral with your mother. You didn’t stay long, being in the same room as Elvis was too much for you to handle.
“I saw you at mama’s funeral, but you were gone before I could collect myself and talk to ya.” Elvis’ eyes shifted with the pain that you saw two years ago, but he masked it with a smile. “I didn’t want to ruin the mood, it wasn’t my intention to leave you alone. I only felt like you needed to be surrounded by the people who you loved.” Elvis’ face turned into a look of disbelief, taken back by your words. “You could never ruin the mood, Satnin. Don’t ya know that you’re the only person that I needed? I had already lost ya to Charlie, but you weren’t thinkin’ about me, were ya?” You knew that this was coming, the conversation switch to your marriage to Charlie was something that you always knew you had to have with him. “I was thinkin’ about not causing a scene at your mother’s funeral, Elvis. There is a place and a time to talk about us and it was not the place nor the time to talk about it while you were mourning the loss of Gladys.”
Elvis removed his hands from your waist, raising them above his head as the disbelief turned into borderline anger. “And what if you never came back? Would we have talked then?!” You stepped back slightly as your eyes turned to the ground. You knew he was right, he knew that you were avoiding him, but it still didn’t make it right that you left him alone when he needed you the most. “Did ya know how much I needed ya?! I needed ya and you could only think about yourself! I’m not surprised, you were always this way! You married another man while I was away in Germany because that’s what ya do! To hell with all the others. To hell with me, right?!”
Elvis turned away from you, stalking away into his room. You followed him, grabbing him by the arm before turning him to face you. “I didn’t know that you felt that way, Elvis! You never communicate with me about how you are feeling! I know that I was wrong for marrying Charlie, I know I promised you that I would wait. But when your mama told me that you were seeing another woman, I could only think about how you were forgetting about me! Forgetting about what we had! Yes, I married Charlie because I was hurt beyond belief. I was hurt and I made an irrational decision that caused me to lose you forever but I’m sorry for not waiting for you.”
Elvis didn’t want to hear your excuses, snatching his hand out from your grasp. “You’re sorry? Sorry?! I LOVED YOU, Y/N! I have always loved you and yet you make everything about yourself. Did you ever stop and think how losing you made me feel?!” You were beginning to get angry at this point, but you knew that once Elvis’ temper started, there was no stopping him. “Elvis! I’m not making anything about myself, it has always been about you! I’ve always made decisions in my life surrounding you! This was the first time in my life that I have ever made a decision about me! How could you even think for one second that I haven’t thought about losing you?”
Elvis placed his hands on his hips as he leaned in to you, sizing you up under his cerulean hues. “You know that’s a damn lie, Satnin. You made this decision because you didn’t wanna wait. You heard that I was seeing another girl so you wanted to hurt me. Come to think about it, you used to want to be married to me! You always wanted to be married and so to get what you wanted, you picked some random joe from the street so you didn’t have to wait.” Your heart was slowly ripping apart at his words, your thoughts that you pushed in the back of your mind returning to the surface.
He’s right, you didn’t wanna wait on him. You married Charlie because you couldn’t wait for two measly years to marry him.
“That’s not true. It’s true that I married Charlie because you were with someone else. But that was it, I swear to you, Elvis. I thought that our relationship was over. Mama and Gladys knew that I would sit here and wait on you while you were off across the world doing everything that you wanted! I left you before you could leave me!” You screamed, tears streaming down your face. “But I still loved you! I still love you! I have always loved you and I don’t think I could ever stop loving you. It killed me to look at you, to hear your voice because I couldn’t stop thinking about you. I would cry at night so much that Charlie couldn’t even bear sleeping next to me at night. We divorced because of how much I love you! So, how could you even say that?!” Elvis chuckled under his breath, shaking his head. “You’re something else, you know that? You divorced your husband and now you think that we can just pick up where we left off?”
“No, that’s not what I’m saying-” Elvis put his hand up, stopping you from speaking before he took a breath. “I’m gonna stop ya right there, baby. There is no picking up where we left off, there is no us anymore.” Your heart broke immediately after hearing his words, not sure why you were surprised because you knew there was no longer you and him. “I’m getting married. So, I don’t know why you’re explaining yourself to me. I don’t even know why you’re here, you could have continued on with your life as if we had never met.”
“Elvis, I-.” Your voice quivered with sadness, reaching out to take his hand before he stepped away from you. “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve never existed in your life. It was nice to see ya again, Y/N. I hope to never see ya again.” He took you by the hand, jerking you towards his bedroom door before pushing you across the threshold. He gave you one more look of condensation before slamming the door in your face. You pounded on the door, tearfully screaming out his name but you were unheard.

You found out that he was marrying the woman that he had met in Germany. His engagement traveled fast around the world as you and the fans alike were heartbroken. You didn’t know why you were heartbroken, it was your fault. You had hurt him, you knew that. You just couldn’t wrap your head around the fact that Elvis didn’t want to see you again. He was your best friend, the only one who understood you. For months, you would hole up in your room. The only thing that you could do was cry, the look in his eyes tormenting you for days on end. Your mother would try to get you to leave your room, but you could never bring yourself to look at her because you didn’t want her to see you crumble into despair at the sight of Elvis parading his fiance around for you to see. “Baby, you did all that you could. Maybe, it wasn’t meant to be with Elvis.” She would tell you, but you didn’t want to think such things could turn out as bad as it has.
Elvis would marry his fiance the following Spring, the thought of seeing him happily with her tore your heart over and over again. As the new year came around, you decided that you would wish him well. You sat at your kitchen table, deciding to write him a letter instead of showing your face to him again. You couldn’t bear the thought of him turning his back on you as he did months ago, not wanting to experience that type of pain again. Once the letter was finished, you placed it in your mailbox, sending your heart right along with it, hoping that he would at least hear you out one last time before he was no longer yours. Yours? How hysterical. As the time neared for his wedding, you didn’t hear anything from him. You weren’t shocked that he didn’t write back, after all, he was still mad at you for leaving him. You decided to find a new job as the hours at the diner weren’t doing much for you. The new job at the boutique paid well and you still had time to be at home with your family.
You didn’t date, not quite ready to love someone else. You were happy with how things were in your life, even though you weren’t quite happy with the things that were happening in your personal life. You could at least be happy that Elvis was happy with his life. He made a couple movies and put out a couple of songs. You supported him from afar as you always had, knowing this was all that you could do. Now that spring time had finally arrived and his wedding was happening in the next couple of days, you were thoroughly anxious about it as if it was your wedding.
The invitation to his wedding sat on your bed, mocking you that it wasn’t you that he wasn’t getting married to. You would think about how you wished that when you opened it, it stated your name instead of hers. You had given up on the thought long ago that you would ever marry him, but it would return as the days ticked by. “Are you going to the wedding, mama?” You asked your mother, placing the invitation in her hands as she looked over it. “If you don’t want me to, I won’t. But, I think you should at least go to wish him happiness. You were friends once, Y/N. This childish game that you’re playing with him needs to end.”
You hated to say that she was right. You were thinking of yourself, something that Elvis had said when you two had that argument a year ago. Elvis was right, you didn’t think about how he felt when you married Charlie. You didn’t think about him when you had shown up on his doorstep expecting him to take you back and you weren’t thinking about him now when you thought about not making an appearance at his wedding. “You’re right, mama. I should go to wish him happiness. After all, that’s all I’ve ever wanted for him, to be happy.”
The memories of following him to the studio appeared in your mind, seeing his happy face as he sang his heart out was the answer that you needed to attend. The day finally arrived, you and your mother pulled into the parking lot of the church where the wedding was being held. You could see Vernon standing at the door, a tux adorning his body as he spoke with the priest who stood beside him. Your mother pulled you to the side before you could walk inside, noticing that something was off.
“It looks like Vernon is upset about something. Why don’t you go see what it is about? I’m gonna go talk with Minnie Mae.” You nodded your head as you parted ways with your mother, walking over to where Vernon was. “Hey Vernon, is everything alright?” Vernon turned his face away from the priest, smiling at you nervously before shaking his head. “Elvis is talking about calling off the wedding. I haven’t been able to get in contact with him all morning, I was gonna ask ya if you had seen him.” Your eyebrows raised, shaking your head as you didn’t know where he was.
The priest would leave you alone with Vernon as your mind ran with thoughts about where he could be. “I haven’t talked to him since that day at the house, are you sure he said he wanted to call off the wedding?” Vernon nodded, the look of sadness covering his features as he opened his mouth to speak. “He’s been havin’ cold feet all week. He left last night after going on and on about how he didn’t want to marry Maryanne, that it didn’t feel right. I thought maybe he was speakin’ out of his ass, but he sounded real serious about calling the wedding off.”
You covered your mouth, worried that something had happened to him. “We should go find him, lord knows where he is!” You handed the keys to your car to him. Vernon nodded his head as he followed behind you, you looked over at your mother who was watching you with a smile on her face. “Mama! We’re going to go find Elvis! Stay here with Grandma Dodger!” She waved you off, taking Minnie Mae by the hand. “We’ll be alright, sugar! Go find our boy.” Dodger replied, whispering to your mother as they walked inside of the church. Since there wouldn’t be a wedding, they might as well wait around for Elvis to come back to tell everyone. Vernon peeled out of the parking lot, you looking out of the window as you searched for anyone who looked similar to Elvis.
He wasn’t at any of the places that you thought he would be, seemingly becoming defeated at the thought that he would show his face. “Do you think he’s at Gladys’ grave, Vernon?” Vernon looked over with you with a look of realization that the cemetery where she was buried would be the last place he could be. Vernon didn’t say a word, driving towards the cemetery, your heart beating loud against your ears as you played with your hands. Hold on, Elvis. I’m coming. Vernon pulled your car into the cemetery, immediately seeing Elvis sitting in front of Gladys’ grave. “He’s here, Y/N. This damn boy.” You didn’t wait for Vernon to put the car in park, immediately getting out of the car as you raced between graves to get to him.
Elvis looked up at you, tears streaming down his face as he stood up from where he sat. “Elvis! Where have you been? Your family has been worried sick, you’re talking about canceling the wedding and you didn’t show up. Are you-?” Elvis didn’t give you the chance to finish, wrapping his arms around your waist as he pulled you into him. He was full on crying at this point, holding on to your body as if you would go away. “I couldn’t marry her. I can’t marry her, Satnin. I don’t love her.” He sobbed in your neck, the words almost blending together as he spoke. “Elvis, you can’t just leave everyone wondering where you are either. If you can’t marry her, that’s fine. You just can’t worry everyone to death either.”
He pulled his head out from your neck, looking down at you as he shook his head. “I’m sorry for worrying you, Satnin. I-I just can’t marry her. I don’t love her, I can’t marry someone that I don’t love.” You placed your hands on his cheeks, wiping the tears from his eyes with your thumbs. “Baby, that’s okay. But, you have to tell her. You have to tell her why you can’t commit to her, I’m sure she will understand.” He looked like the boy that you fell for all those years ago, his boyish eyes looking over you as he told you on the porch of his house that he wanted to be with you. “I told her that I couldn’t marry her because it wouldn’t be right. That I would be making a huge mistake by not marrying the woman that I love. I love you, Y/N. I ain’t ever stopped lovin’ ya and I don’t think I could go through being married to another woman when I love ya so damn much.” At that moment, he pressed his lips to yours in a heated kiss.
Your eyes glassed over with tears as you returned his embrace, holding him tightly against your body as your lips moved with his. Your heart jumped in your chest, the butterflies fluttered in the pit of your stomach as you realized that he still loved you. Elvis Presley still loved you and you still loved him. You weren’t going to lose him to another woman and you were happy about it. He pulled away from you, his eyes searching yours as he caressed your cheek with his thumb. “Satnin, I’ve put this on hold long enough. I can’t imagine being with nobody else but you. I’m sorry for everything that I said, I-I didn’t mean it. I didn’t mean it, baby. After you left, I haven’t been the same. I’m crazy about ya, Y/N. I love ya, more than I’ve ever loved anybody in my life. Will–Will ya marry me, baby?” He pulled out a black box, opening it to reveal a diamond ring. “I know I’m askin’ ya too late, I should have asked ya to marry me before I left for Germany but I couldn’t get in touch with ya.” You placed your finger on his lip as your tears flowed down your cheeks. “That’s okay, Elvis. I’m sorry too, I should have waited for you. It wasn’t fair to you that I went and married someone else, not when I still loved you for so long.”
Elvis placed his hand on your wrist, pulling your hand down to rest into his. “I’m not blaming ya for marrying Charlie. I should have made you my wife before he did though.” You giggled, squeezing his hand before you looked into his eyes. “Yes, Elvis. I’ll marry you.” His eyes lit up with happiness as he slid the ring on your finger. It fit as if it was meant to, glistening under the Memphis sun. “I’ve had this ring stashed away for the perfect time, but time went by so fast that I didn’t realize that it was always supposed to be you that I marry.” He wrapped his arms around you once more, hugging you tightly against his body before he kissed your cheek happily.
Vernon stood by the car, a huge smile on his face as he watched you with Elvis. “Alright, you two! We’ve gotta get back to the church to let everyone know that there won’t be a wedding today!” Elvis looked at Vernon, a mischievous smile crossing his face as he shook his head. “Who said?” Your eyes widened as you looked at Elvis. “We can’t get married today, I don’t have anything planned. I have no dress, we haven’t told everyone.”
Elvis only smiled down at you, taking you by the hand as he led you over to your car. “We don’t need any of that baby, if you need a dress, we can stop and get you one. I’m marrying you today. I can’t wait any longer.” You groaned inwardly, knowing that you couldn’t deter Elvis from getting what he wanted. However, you were overjoyed that you would be the one that he was marrying today.
He stayed true to his word, stopping at a dress boutique, letting you pick the wedding dress that you wanted before he whisked you away to the church where his family and your mother waited. Your mother walked over to you, pulling you into her arms. “You look beautiful, baby.” You pulled away from her, knowing that she knew all along that Elvis had this planned. “How long did you know?” She laughed softly, taking you by the hand as she squeezed it. “Your whole life, honey. Elvis called me one day when you were at work, apologizing like a fool. He told me that he couldn’t marry that girl, not when he loved you as much as he does.”
You looked over at Elvis with adoration in your eyes as he stared at you, his tux sitting nicely on his body. Although this was supposed to be a wedding for him and another woman, you could only think about how lucky you were that the feelings were still there for you and for him. “Go on baby, go and marry the man that you love.” Elvis walked inside of the church, his family looking on in confusion because he was late and seemed to be a bit anxious. “I’m sorry everyone for the tardiness, I had to think about some things. There won’t be a wedding today between me and Maryanne. I couldn’t go through with it, knowing that I would be breaking the heart of the woman that I truly love.” There were murmurs throughout the church, his family looking around to see if Maryanne would show her face.
“You all know about Y/N. She’s been my best friend since I was a child, we promised each other that we would marry each other. Of course, things happened. But, I decided that I couldn’t go on without her. I’m marrying her today, so I wanted to give my apologies for keeping ya waiting.” His family clapped their hands, glad that there was going to be a wedding and that he was marrying you. “About time you made a wife out of her, son.” Uncle Vestor spoke over the cheers, getting a laugh from everyone around him. He walked up to the altar, beside the priest as he waited for you. Your mother stood at the door of the church, holding you by the hand as you walked inside. You knew that there was no planning on your end, but you didn’t care because you were finally marrying Elvis.
Tears streamed down your cheeks as your eyes watched Elvis, tears streaming down his cheeks as he watched you walk down the aisle towards him. His family stood in awe, smiles gracing their faces as they nodded their approval of how beautiful you looked. Minnie Mae leaned into your direction, pressing a kiss to your cheek as she smiled with tears in her eyes. “You look beautiful, baby girl. You make my boy happy, I’m so glad that you’re gonna be his wife.” You sniffled, wrapping your arms around her as you hugged her tightly. “Gladys would be thrilled to see that her son is marrying the woman that she chose for him.” You thought about how much Gladys would want to be there, beaming happily as you continued walking towards Elvis.
“Alright then, there is a wedding! Who gives this woman to be lawfully wedded to this man?” You looked over at your mother, who looked at the priest before looking back at you. She was holding her handkerchief in her hand, sobbing into the material before shakingly speaking. “I am, thank the lord. I am.” The church roared with laughter as she placed your hand into Elvis’. “Take care of my baby, Elvis. She’s been waiting and praying to be your wife since she was a child. You two belong together.” Elvis nodded his head at your mother, wrapping an arm around her as he kissed the top of her head. “Yes, ma’am. I’ll take care of her as long as I live.” You sniffled at the interaction between him and your mother, looking up at him as he stared down at you with love in his eyes.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to witness the beautiful union of Y/N L/N and Elvis Aron Presley.” The priest would begin his speech, but all you could focus on was the man in front of you. He was finally yours, nothing stood in between you as your union was finally becoming one. The vows were beautiful, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room as you went through your own words of how much you loved Elvis, how much you waited and prayed that he would make an honest woman out of you. “Before God and everyone who has attended, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride, son.” The priest said, stepping back as Elvis leaned down, pressing his lips on yours. Your new family clapped happily, cheering at the sight of Elvis finally marrying the woman that he loved.

The gathering after the wedding was simply beautiful; the mixture of your mother and your new family was as you always imagined. This time, you took the time to reflect on the wedding dress, the champagne, and even the elegant wedding cake. Just as promised, your first dance was to My Happiness, bringing memories to the surface of him recording the tune at Sun Records. Everything was different than the first time, but you felt as if you were married for the first time. That night, you had returned to Graceland; your new home. Returning there was so poignant, not forgetting that you rushed out those doors heartbroken that your now husband turned you away. However, Elvis welcomed you with such warm arms as he carried you over the threshold of the same room that he once pulled you away from. He took you in his arms as he danced with you as he sang into your ear.
Gently, your eyes met mine
Tender, trusting, and true
Gently, your hand took mine
Thrilled me through and through
Gently, oh so gently
Gentle as the dawn
Gently, oh so gently
Our true love was born
You were truly blown away that your dream of becoming Mrs. Presley had come true. It was all that you wanted, and now it was on this day, that you were reunited with Elvis and that your long-lived love had blossomed like a beautiful tulip on a spring day. His cerulean hues looked deeply into your brown eyes with nothing but love as he placed you, his bride on your marital bed. You caressed his cheeks with your hands as his soft lips pressed against yours gently. As your wedding dress was shed from your body, tears lingering on your face, you were reminded that he had always loved you. The anger that once brewing in his eyes had also had the hint of love, you wish that you could have seen it clearly. “You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to take ya like this, Satnin.” You whimpered with so much emotion as you pushed his jacket off of his shoulders. Elvis kissed all over your body, leaving no part of it untouched. You hurriedly unbuttoned his shirt, pulling it off of his torso as you took in his body.
You had only seen his torso a few times before, Elvis not wanting to make love to you then, only promising that he would do so when you were his wife. The time was finally here, you were excited and so was he. His fingers pulled your bra straps down off your shoulders, the heat of your skin causing goosebumps to arise as he tenderly rubbed your skin. Your bronze complexion was glowing even under the little light that was in the room. Once your bra was off of your body and thrown somewhere that you didn’t care to know, he moved his lips down your chest as his hands cradled your breasts.
You moaned out slightly, carding your fingers through his hair as your mind screamed for him to take you. His trousers and underwear were next, pooled on the floor with your dress. Suddenly, he was inside of you slowly but with such need. The moans that bounced off of the walls were like music to your ears, remembering all of those times that you would be in his room at nights when your mother and his parents were off in the other room. He would pet your body, whispering how much he couldn’t wait to make you his.
His thrusts were sending your soul out of your body, pants and moans passing his lips as he held on to your hands. “Elvis.” You moaned as he sped up his hips, grunting in your ear in the process. “I’m gonna show you how much I missed ya. That you had always deserved to be mine.” Your head was thrown back in ecstasy as you returned his gaze, nodding your head. Elvis placed your legs around his hips as his thrusts continued pounding into you, hitting spots that you never had touched. “The first thing I’m gonna do is give you a baby. Our baby is gonna look like me, but have your eyes.” He moaned into your ear, causing a sob to pass your lips. The coil in your stomach was pulling, heat pooling over your body as you cried out in pleasure. Elvis continued to grunt, pushing himself in and out of you with such love that your body melted into the sheets beneath you.
“I love you, Y/N Presley. Oh, God. I love you so much.” Elvis cried out as he fucked you into an orgasm. You cried out loudly, holding on to his hands tightly as your legs shook around his waist. He roared shortly after, spilling inside of you as his hips shook with pleasure and from adrenaline as he fucked himself through his orgasm. He let go of your hands only for a second as he laid beside you, pulling you into his arms. You looked up at your husband, smiling softly as he looked down at you with love in his eyes.
All of the waiting, crying, and pining led up to this moment finally being in his arms, never to leave again. He made true to his promise, you were pregnant soon after. Your daughter was born the following year, bringing you and him closer together. You would tell stories to your daughter about how you and your father’s love withstood him moving away from Shake Rag to Memphis, you marrying another man while he was away in Germany, and even him almost marrying Maryanne. Nothing could have been better when the following year, you were pregnant with his son.
Elvis was such a great father and husband, like you always knew he would be. He spoiled his wife and his children as years went on, his career skyrocketing with him performing at his comeback special in 1968. You and your children followed him everywhere, not wanting to be away from him at any moment. Your love was idolized by every fan, learning that you were indeed the girl that had once gotten away, but not for long. The life that you were promised when you held Elvis all those years ago back at Shake Rag was better than you could have imagined. You were happy; there were no more tears, no more pining, and no more waiting for you because you had your mother and you had Elvis. Who said that the love affair would end when you said I do?

Drop It!
Tumblr media
Warnings: Supernatural elements. Dead!Elvis. Reader’s father is dead. Reader denotes elvis to his face. Dilapidated Graceland.
Summary: It’s move-in day! Reader spends the day fixing up the house. By the end of the night, she just wants to relax but something, or someone, needs to talk to her.
A/N: I am fully aware that graceland is cared for and not at all in ruin but the story calls for it. I put a lot of thought into this series and i really want everyone to enjoy it! The story is inspired by my house and what it’s like living here. though i’ve never come face to face with my goulish friends, i do respect them. A small bit, while comical, is something i actually did experience. Granted, i never spoke to anyone, or at least, never got an audible response. Most of this series includes odd happenings that i’ve dealt with. Isn’t that fun? Non-beliver or not, i hope you enjoy it. Happy reading- Bee💕

September 2023
The keys resting in your palms bring nothing but joy, even after dealing with a snippy mother and grumbling movers on an overcast Thursday afternoon. It should've been alarming, the way that realtor hightailed it off the property, but you were just glad to get your hands on what once was a beautiful home.
Graceland had nearly fallen to ruin; once the previous owner's legacy began to deteriorate, so did respect for the house. Squatters, Drug dealers, vandals, this house has seen it all. Yet, under all that muck and destruction, you saw a chance to restore its beauty.
Your mother was a bit...perturbed by the decision, wondering what she had done in your childhood that could've led to this point. When the idea was first pitched, she laughed it off, assuming it was another one of your odd bouts, like it was some fairytale. So imagine her surprise when you tossed the paperwork onto the breakfast table.
Your mother's concerns only doubled when she actually saw the house. Move-in day is supposed to be exciting, and for you, it is. Pushing past the doors into your new home is something magical. You don't know where to start. The kitchen? The front room? Upstairs? It's all so tempting.
"Mama, this place, it's so beautiful. Doesn't it jus' make you wanna cry?" You exclaim, unable to contain the excitement rushing through your body.
"...That's...well, that's one way to put it." your mother says, watching for possible loose beams as you traverse through the house.
You kiss your teeth at her tone and begin rattling on about your ideas for the space.
"I can fix her up in no time. We can start with the walls; they only need a few patches and a fresh coat a' paint. Oh! And then we can work on the floors. And I'm sure we can find some replicas or have 'em made. I think-"
"Y/n!" your mother interrupts, "Rome wasn't built in a day, baby. Don't get too ahead of yourself. You already broke the bank buyin' this...place and-"
You shake your head "Mama, don't you know who used to live here? Daddy woulda-"
The older woman before you holds up her hand, face dropping into an unamused expression. "Don't compare me to your daddy; we never did have the same tastes. And of course, I know; Elvis was my crush before you were even thought of."
You tilt your head, shifting to move a box. "But you just said you n' daddy didn’t have the same-"
She cuts you off before you can finish your thought. "Hush up and listen to your mama." A chuckle leaves your mouth as she scolds you.
"After all this time, daddy still can't catch a break?"
Your mother lets out a saddened sigh, "Well, he may not be here physically, but pokin' fun at him is the only way I know he's still around."
Your shoulders drop, and you set the box down. Your father passed away six years ago; he didn't want his family knowing he was sick. You thought it was a cruel joke, some twisted prank set to traumatize you forever. The wails your mother let out that night on the kitchen floor told you otherwise. She tries to pretend but hasn't been the same since—the idea of remarrying tossed to the wind like a dandelion's pappi.
"Mama, don't you think daddy would've wanted you to let him go?" you lament, hoping your mother would consider it this time. But, alas, the notion is shot down once again.
"You may not believe in ghosts or the afterlife, y/n, but I do. Your daddy is always with me. It wouldn't be right to get hitched in his face."
You shrug and continue unpacking, "If you say so mama, I jus couldn't imagine stickin' it out till the very end." That statement seems to tickle your mama pink. "You ain't never been in love, sugar pie. When you meet your mister right, you'll know what I mean."
You purse your lips. Even while talking about her dead husband, she hints at your sad love life. To you, love is just a feeling, and the dead are just that, dead. So your mother's musings about 'ghosts' and 'true loves' are nothing short of fantasy in your world.
"O...kay. Well, we've got a lot to do, and we've been talkin' bout nothin' for ten whole minutes. Let's hop to it!"
Your mother rolls her eyes, "This ain't my dream house, honey. I ain't GOT to do nothin' but stay black and die."
"Oh, here you go with that mess. You agreed to help your only baby move in so that I wouldn't 'die in my sleep cause some spider decided to munch on me,' so don't give me none of that." You mock.
Your mother pops your arm and grabs a broom. "You yo' daddy's daughter, alright. Couldn't have got that mouth from me." She mutters.
For the next four hours, the two of you dispose of odd findings, scrub, wash, disinfect, and grumble through the house. By the time you finish, the home is as clean as clean gets. The sun has set, and all you want to do is eat and sleep. The last thing to set up is the bedroom.
You feel a little strange sleeping in a room that once belonged to such a legend, but he isn't here, and the house belongs to you. The wall of TVs would be dealt with later. For now, a flatscreen was simply placed in front of them; aside from that, you pre-ordered replicas of the bedroom furniture, not wanting to personalize too much.
After kissing your mother goodbye, you trudge up the stairs, stopping halfway to crack your back. Once you return to the master suite, flopping on the bed only seems fitting. A groan escapes you as you realize you still need to shower. Rolling over, you grab a towel from your suitcase, lay out some pajamas on the center of the bed, and head for the bathroom.
While waiting for the water to warm, perched on the porcelain throne, the lights flicker. You'll need to replace the bulbs later; simple fix.
When the water reaches hell, you waste no time jumping in. It soothes your aching body, and all of the tension from today washes down the drain. You hum a nonsensical tune to keep you entertained while you clean away the dirt and grime. In the middle of the improvised song, a crash steals your attention.
You finish rinsing and shut off the water, quickly making your way to the bedroom door. You aren't going to investigate; too bright (or too experienced in the horror genre) to even give that a thought. No, you lock the door and mind your business; that is a morning problem.
When you turn back to retrieve your nightwear, you find them on a chair in the corner of the room. Odd. You could've sworn you left them in the middle of the bed. Whatever, you think as you throw them on.
Plopping down on the edge of the bed, you grab the remote and turn the TV on—finally, a moment of peace. You flick through Netflix, desperate to find good background noise. Landing on your favorite show, 'The Good Place,' is enough for you. It's ironic, don't believe in anything after death, or love, and here you are, watching two dead people fall in love.
Halfway through Episode six, the source of entertainment shuts off. You huff; it was getting good too. The remote is behind you, out of reach, so you aren't exactly sure what could've caused this.
"Probably just a glitch," you mumble, turning the TV back on and resuming your minor addiction. This time, you place the remote on the dresser, ensuring no interruptions.
Despite your effort, it happens again; A guttural noise leaves your body. You're broke in a house that's falling apart with no man, pets, and no energy. TV is the one pleasure you have left, and even that is beginning to frustrate you.
Repeating the process, you hold the remote in your hands, eyebrows raised, daring your peace to try and leave again. After a few moments, you sigh in relief as the halfway point passes and set the remote down. As soon as it comes in contact with the plush, black comforter, the TV again fails you.
"Oh, for fuck's sake." You exclaim.
"Ladies shouldn't swear; ain't attractive." A voice bellows from behind you. A shrill shriek is all that is heard as you scramble off the bed. Your eyes search for the source but find nothing. Slowly, you creep toward the bed and snatch up the remote. "Can't go downstairs till morning, and I'm losin' it in here. What a night." You whisper.
A shiver rolls through your body, and you decide it's better to sit on the floor. Again you try with your tv (which you will be returning in the morning), and of course, that doesn't last long.
"Sugarpie, I don't wanna see that junk. If you're gon' watch somethin' in my bed, I suggest it be somethin' good. Not some trash show that don't know the first thing bout bein' dead." The strange voice booms again.
This time when you jump out of your skin and turn to face the intruder, you see what you can only assume to be the world's most accurate Elvis impersonator.
"What the hell are you doin' in my house?!" You screech, "Get out! Get the hell out."
The man before you is nowhere near ready for the projectiles flying his way. Clothes, shoes, books, and a stuffed bear. You name it; it's flying at his head.
"Hey! I—I said—, goddamn! You got an arm on ya! Put the—,"
Elvis can't even finish his sentence as you continue to fling whatever you can at him.
"Get. Out. Of. My. House!" You grunt, each word punctuated with the throw of an object. The tall, blue-eyed stranger ducks and dodges with precision, but when he sees you getting ready to toss a picture frame, one you no doubt failed to realize the importance of in your defensive state, the fun and games stop.
"Drop it! Drop that damn picture right now! Your mama would tan your hide for days if she saw that you broke that frame." Elvis booms.
Your chest is heaving, and you blink, glancing over at the photo.
"S'your daddy, right? Y'all were talkin' in the kitchen bout how it's the last thing he gave ya. You promised ta take care of it. So drop it."
You nod and gently place the photo on the bed, reaching for a good substitute.
"Jus—Just how long have you been here?" you question, ready to launch the lamp in your hand. Elvis ponders for a moment. "What year is it?" He asks, seeming genuine. You quirk an eyebrow, unamused with the game he's playing. "You can't be serious."
He looks at you expectantly, waiting for an actual answer. Your phone is across the room, and the chances of getting past this psycho-wannabe Elvis are slim to none. So, you entertain him. "It's twenty-twenty-three, you should know that." You say, face stoic.
Elvis's eyes widen, "Twenty- Good lord!" He chuckles in disbelief.
"Well, to answer your question lil' mama, if that's true, I've been here for sixty-six years if you're countin' when I bought the house."
You shake your head; there's no way the idiot in front of you is this dedicated. "Yeah, sure, I reckon you want me to believe you're Elvis Presley himself. Is that what this is? Some attempt to scare me?"
Elvis chuckles and shakes his head, "No, ma'am. Ain't no pretendin' round here. I'm the real deal."
You can't help the cackle that slips past your lips.
"My ass!"
Elvis's smirk fades, "I told ya that shit isn't cute. And if ya don't believe me, try to shake my hand." He says, extending the appendage forward.
You scrunch your nose, "Now, why would I do that?"
He shrugs, hand still held out.
"Well, I ain't goin' nowhere for a long time n' you're the first person to see or hear me in ages. Whether ya do or don't, it really ain't too concernin' for me."
You sigh, knowing this is how dumb girls in movies usually meet their end. Can't believe m'doin' this. Shakily, you extend your hand, and when it meets his, it goes right through. You gasp as the limb turns to smoke before materializing again.
"Sweet jesus," you sputter.
"I wouldn't know if he was sweet, I ain't met him yet." Elvis jokes. You back away, very spooked.
"T-This, this isn't possible. Ghosts they—they aren't-"
"Real?" Elvis cuts you off, "Yeah, I heard that part too, jus didn't wanna scare your mama, so I waited till it was jus you n' me."
You scoff, offended, "My mama gets a pass, and I don't?"
He chuckles and sits on the bed, "She believed, you didn't. For someone with a gift this great, ya sure do love ta act like ya don't know what she's talkin' about."
You fold your arms, looking down, "I don't have-"
"Oh, yes ya do. Don't give me none of that. I spent the whole afternoon chit-chattin' with your old man. "
Your head snaps up, eyes meeting his. "You spoke to my daddy? How is he? Did he ask bout mama? Because she'd be thrilled. I gave up. I knew I shouldn't have. I'd been tryin' to reach him since he died, but he never-" The smug look on Elvis's face shuts you up.
"Well, first off. Why would ya need to call a man who's in the same house as ya? Second, you'd been tryin' so hard to find happiness for a woman who don't need it, that ya pushed your daddy away anytime he tried. A ghost can only do so much without scarin' someone half to death, baby."
This is all too much; Ghosts exist, Elvis Presley is in front of you, and your daddy hasn't moved on. Mama was right. You lift the covers and shimmy under them.
"I need to sleep on this. Jus—I...I don't know where you go, but scram for the night please."
Elvis chuckles, nodding. In a flash, he evaporates, fumes left behind as he finds another room to settle in.
You breathe through your nose as you think. What a night indeed, miss y/n.

Lose Your Faith In Me | Austin!Elvis
Tumblr media
part two , masterlist
Warnings : no warnings just heartbreaking angst.
sorry in advance, for the sadness and the horrible writing!
enjoy my first ever writing :)
Based on the song, The Gold by Phoebe Bridgers. (I guarantee that listening to it as you read makes it 10x better)
Listen while you read:
Apple Music , Spotify
You couldn’t pinpoint exactly when these changes in Elvis started. He wasn’t always so angry, so mean, so well, scary. As much as you hate to admit it, Elvis scared you now. Years ago, ceilings were hard to imagine with Elvis, nothing had a limit and anything was possible. Today, you feel trapped.
Trapped between the four walls of the International Hotel watching your husband shout so loudly at anyone who so much as breathed the wrong way. For that very reason, you kept a great distance away, comfortable in your makeshift seat on the steps of the stage, just listening to the harsh words escaping his mouth.
You remember when he’d laugh and cry tears of joy after his shows. So proud of how far he’d come and what he’d accomplished. Nowadays it seems as though something’s always wrong. Nothing is ever enough or good enough. Including you.
You had such confidence in yourself before Elvis. Before Elvis, you knew your worth. Knew exactly what you’d tolerate and how little you would take, especially in relationships. But things were different with Elvis, and you know it’s only because you love him so much that you let him treat you and everyone around you like shit.
You sat on the abandoned steps for so long contemplating everything, especially the way your relationship with Elvis has gone downhill so fast. So long, that you’d failed to realize you were alone until the last light flickered off and there was no one present except you and the lonesome darkness.
With a sigh, you lifted yourself from the surface and begrudgingly began your walk to the elevators. After a show like this, you knew tonight was bound to be hell. You didn't want to blame Elvis or be upset with him. You knew exactly why he behaved how he did, but you wished he wouldn't. God did you wish he would go back to himself. And on the long ride to the very top floor, you reminisced. You thought back to all of the sweet moments with your love and how times like these seemed so impossible.
I believed you were crazy,
you believed you loved me.
“I love you, darling, y’know that, right? I don’t think I ever loved anything or anyone like I love you satnin.” Elvis muttered head turned up to the sky as you both rested on the blanket in the middle of the field at Graceland. Whilst he sat head held high, your head lay gently in his lap, his hand caressing the side of your face.
Startled by your silence, his head slowly tilted downward where he met your lovestruck eyes. Suddenly aware of the eye contact between you two you spoke up, “you talking to me Elvis?” With a soft chuckle, he ran fingers from their comfortable place of fidgeting with your earlobe to cupping your jaw in a soft embrace, “yea, I’m talking to you, mama. I love ya.”
You couldn’t help the heat that rushed to your cheeks or the smile that found its way onto your face. “I think you’re crazy, baby.” you giggled. “Crazy in love with ya!” he cackled, dropping his hand from your face and lifting your body entirely onto his lap. “I’m crazy in love with you, I swear it. I got faith that you're it for me, you hear?”.
you can’t open your eyes for awhile
you just breathe
that moment down
“I love you, Elvis Presley. I love you more than life, bewbie.” And he held you so close and tight whilst you laughed at the nickname. At that moment, nothing mattered, with closed eyes and uncontrollable laughter you held each other and thought about your life together and how you wanted to spend it together forever.
Oh, how the times have changed.
The second the ‘ding’ of the elevator freed you from your thoughts, you were instantly met with the eyes of your star, and were they anything but shining.
You hadn’t seen Elvis for months since he began touring with Hank Snow, so when you met his eyes as he arrived in front of his mama's apartment building, you felt like you would die from excitement. “Baby!” You heard his voice shout as he jumped out of the passenger side of the car. In seconds the car door was slammed and you were high in the sky, being twirled around by the love of your life.
“I don’t ever wanna be apart from you again sweetheart, can’t breathe without ya” he muttered into your neck as he finally let you down and embraced you in a crushing hug. “I don’t ever wanna be without you either baby,” you whispered back before placing your lips onto his in the most gentle kiss. You swore his lips were what love tasted like.
Elvis was always so soft and gentle with you, even when he carried you upstairs and made love to you in his bed and held you to his chest afterward.
“How did it feel being a star baby?” you asked, tracing random shapes onto his abdomen. “I thought you said I been a star?” He grinned, angling his head to look down at you. “Not that way baby! A Superstar!” You grinned right back up at him. “It felt incredible, darling like I was flying to the rock of eternity y’know?”
“Yea, I got a feeling.” you smiled still staring deep into his eyes. The look of love in both of your eyes was enough for you both to lose your breath. With his rosy cheeks and shy smile, he placed a soft kiss on your hair and rubbed your back ever so gently.
you just breathe
that moment down
It’s such a shame, now looking back at how this relationship has managed to turn to shit.
I don’t wanna bark here anymore,
what the hell are we gonna do a
black mile to the surface
“Where the hell you been ?” he shouted, throwing his hands in the air. “I was still downstairs Elvis, I didn’t realize y’all left.” You muttered walking through the living area to your shared room. You could hear him muttering nonsense as he followed behind you.
“What was that you called yourself doing with that man out there!” he called out slamming the room door.
“It was nothing, baby, he was asking about the set,” you spoke calmly, slowly removing your shoes and earrings. “Now I ain’t the smartest but I sure ain’t a damn idiot y/n,” he grunted sitting on the edge of the bed watching you prepare yourself for bed. “Now tell me what the hell you got planned huh you thinkin’ you can just plot without me knowin’.” He spoke slowly in a threatening voice. And when you shook your head and exhaled a breath, choosing to ignore him. He grabbed your arm roughly pulling you towards him.
“What the hell Elvis!” You shouted, yanking your arm back, “That hurt!”
From the look on his face, you could tell he regretted grabbing you that way the second he did it. “I’m sorry baby I just- I”
“Go to bed! God dammit can we go to bed please!” you begged tossing on your robe and pulling back the covers.
“Yea, we can go to bed, let’s just lie together, yeah?” He was rambling, a low-down mess he was. Rushing to the other side he did the same and quickly slid in behind you. With your back turned to him you could hear his ragged breathing and you knew he had something to say.
“I ain’t mean to do that mama, swear I didn’t. Dr. Nick I- he-” and he struggled to speak for a while with a grunt he continued. “He gave me some more medicine, I’m just a little irritated is all, I swear, I couldn’t control it, I ain’t wanna do that to ya, I don’t ever wanna hurt you doll.”
You didn’t reply, instead opting to pretend you were sleeping.
Our cave’s collapsing, I don't wanna be me anymore.
“I love you, darling, I swear I ain’t crazy. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I know I love ya, and I still got faith in us, okay always gonna be me and you. Imma forever be your star I promise you baby, imma hold on to you forever, you’re it for me, my rock of eternity ya hear? I love you.”
With no response, he leaned closer and pressed a gentle kiss to your face. Unbeknownst to you, he lay awake for a while as well. Taking a trip to the bathroom and running the shower, he sat against the door wiping his tears. The truth was he didn’t know why he was so angry all the time. He knew it wasn’t you and he hated the way he’d project his anger onto you. So he cried and held his knuckles to his mouth to muffle his unstable breathing and he wiped his tears, turned off the shower, and made his way to you again with one final kiss and one final whisper “I love you”, he opted to find his way to sleep as well. Not before praying to god, his mama, and the moon, that you’d be able to have the same faith in him that he has in you to love him all the same.
you don’t open your eyes for a while,
just breathe that moment down.
You waited until his breathing evened out before you slipped out of bed and into the bathroom where you stared at yourself in the mirror thinking about Elvis and your relationship and how everything has changed. You couldn’t even recognize yourself in the reflection and you knew what you had to do.
couldn’t really love you anymore,
you’ve become my ceiling.
I don’t think I love you anymore,
that gold mine changed you,
you don’t have to hold me anymore,
With a speed you’ve never had before you rushed to collect your belongings from around the suite, not bothering to be quiet. You knew with the drugs Dr. Nick had given your poor star that he’d sleep through anything. Waiting at the elevator you felt the need to go lie back down beside your heart but you couldn’t and you knew that. But you couldn't deny how hard this was and how bad you’d miss that man.
So with slow feet, you ended up by his side pressing one last gentle kiss to his lips and wiping away the tear that had dropped onto his face. It didn’t taste like love, maybe that’s what you were hoping for, and maybe you would have stayed. But you had spent half of your life with this man and you couldn’t spend the rest of it feeling the way he’s learned to treat you.
It all tastes like poison
Lose your faith in me.
You believed he was crazy, he believed he loved you, maybe he was indeed crazy in love. But there was no doubt that you both had faith in each other and the faith that you’d be it for each other, always.
With a shaky breath you pulled the ring from your finger and placed it on his nightstand.
So lose your faith in me.
