Whether a profile is private or not does not matter - the only content they say they aren't touching yet is DMs.

The only options are to either force them to delete all your data and close the accounts, or opting out. Opting out is made to be deliberately annoying and may not even be available everywhere.

If it is, here's a short guide to do so: You should be able to find a message from Meta in your notifications saying something to the effect of 'we will feed you to our AI models'. Click on it, then click on 'right to object' in the text. Fill out the form. I don't think it really matters what one writes - in most places, they are required by law to honour the objection. It might help to have something to copy, so I freestyled this and it worked: "I object to my data being used to train generative AI in accordance with all applicable data protection laws. This is a gross invasion of privacy. I do not consent to my likeness being commercialised by you. You have no right to use this data as AI training data without my consent."

Currently, we have confirmed that developers and users of this plug-in are posting content in the community or on video sites disguising themselves as victims to confuse the public and incite panic. Kind of a fuck customers but also a satisfying story at the same time.

My role in the call center I work in involves taking specifically corporate calls, which means I spend all day talking to “business professionals” (and I use that term loosely) including CEOs. As you can imagine, over 90% of these CEOs are the scum of the earth and the most entitled assfaces on the planet.

A week or so ago, I took a call and went through my usual routine of greeting the cardholder and then began going over verification questions. Since we’re A.) a bank and B.) a bank that handles corporate and government credit cards, we take security seriously and require a caller to be able to verify 3 pieces of information based on what the person responsible for their credit cards put on the account. If they don’t pass, we refer them to their company to get the right details.

So as I’m doing this, the guy on the phone is getting increasingly irritated as he keeps getting the security questions wrong. I’m calm and professional the entire time but firm. Eventually I run out of things to verify with him and tell him that we won’t be able to assist and that he needs to contact his administrator. This is apparently where I went wrong.

“LADY I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR!!” He screeches. Ok, great. I look him up and that’s true but there’s a second admin listed, so I ask him to check in with him. He then yells “THERE IS NO OTHER ADMIN! I’M THE CEO OF THIS COMPANY FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!”

I apologize and tell him while that may be true, he still got his security questions wrong and needs to reach out to his account coordinator then. This man then proceeds to scream at me for the next minute or so saying how we’re an awful bank, how he’s had problems with us for years, blah blah and how we have the worst customer service ever. Keep in mind, I’ve been nice and empathetic this entire time but also I’m not gonna lose my fucking job just because a guy in a suit doesn’t know his shit. I give him the email to his account coordinator and stress again that he needs to talk to them. Then this exchange happens:

Him: “So let me get this straight. You are saying you are REFUSING and UNWILLING to help me, right?

Me: “No, actually I’d love to help you, however we have these security procedures in place for yours and your company’s protection and cannot make exceptions for anyone.”

Him: “This is fucking UNBELIEVABLE! I’ve HAD IT with this bank!!”

Me: “Ok, I’m sorry to hear that. Anything else I can do for you before we disconnect?”

Him: “WHAT IS YOUR NAME? I NEED YOUR NAME. NOW.”

Me: *gives my first name and spells it for him even though it’s a very basic 4 letter name because I’m a bitch*

Him: YOUR LAST NAME.

Me: “We don’t give out anything but our first name for the safety of our employees.”

Him: *insert that condescending, pissed off chuckle middle aged men do when they’re mad here* “Well I’ll tell you what (My Name), when I close this account and pull my MILLIONS OF DOLLARS out of (bank name) and they ask me why, I’ll make sure to tell them that it’s (My Name)’s fault. And I will see to it that you won’t be able to get another job outside of the minimum wage fast food job or whatever you had before this. How does that sound?”

Me: “Sounds great. Now seeing as how this conversation is no longer productive or professional and threats are being made, I’ll be terminating the call, have a nice day.”

Him: “DO NOT HANG UP O-“

Me: *click*

And that’s how making rich, powerful men rage-cry became my new favorite hobby. Thankfully, I haven’t gotten any feedback on that call; not that I would, seeing as how I did my job exactly how I was supposed to. Anyways I hope I’m his 13th reason. ❤️

Reporting in as a holdout who never got a twitter account: as of today (30th June 2023), twitter has started blocking access to everything on their site unless you’re logged in. (Embedded posts still work.)

I don’t know how bad it’ll get, but I worry this is going to cause whole pile of problems.

The big one: twitter has become the place where governments, politicians and institutions communicate. These are the sort of messages everyone in their country should be able to see, forever. You shouldn’t have to enter a contract with a private company (who could then permanently ban you anyway). You also shouldn’t be denied access because you’ve got some issue with email or phone verification.

On a more mundane level, a many people and companies rely on twitter as a noticeboard to communicate with their audience, even when those audiences aren’t focused on twitter. Twitter has ~300m active users, which is a lot, but nowhere near being everyone.

You want to check on the latest from your favourite twitch streamer, or your live-service game, or your hobbyist brand? You check their twitter profile, even if twitter has nothing else to offer you. How many people are going to set up an account just to keep on doing that? Are you really going to convince them now when they never signed up before?

For a more tumblr-specific issue, we just saw the sourced-art-repost system take a big hit. Any source links back to twitter now say nothing unless you log in. No display name, no links to proper art sites like pixiv or deviantart.

I can’t think of another major social media site that locks you out entirely without an account. If you can’t even see the site, why would you sign up? FOMO, name recognition? If you start choking the audience, will there be as much to see there anyway?

Before we dive into this scam, please note that this scam is very dangerous as it reportedly deals with identity theft and concludes with the theft and use of your stolen information for nefarious purposes.

As it should go with any stranger you talk to on the internet, you should never willingly give out any of your personal information such as: real name, date of birth, address, phone number, credit card/bank information, photos of yourself or your bank, credit, social security card, ect, to a stranger on the internet who promises you money.

1 - How it starts.

This scam typically starts by someone receiving an email, or in the images we will be examining today, a tumblr user receiving a DM- or, well, several DM's, from users who were trying to 'bless them with good tidings of the universe' and that it was 'a sign from the almighty' and 'it was fate' and all that nonsense... to try and then recruit them to join the Illuminati.

Their blogs are full of generic AI generated images, philosophical scripture/nonsense, links to Illuminati websites/content that seem suspicious.

The offer of the impossible.

Wealth (of an undisclosed amount) to help the homeless with food and resources. Some 'means' of aiding your business and/or helping you attain any job position you desire in your work place. Some ✨magical✨ means of granting you recognition in your community. (As if they can suddenly make people change their opinions of you...)

Then instant request/demand that they need you to use Telegram for communication.

Telegram is a service that a lot of scammers use, and they use it because they can easily communicate with other scammers (and victims) there, and run their scams through it without it usually being able to be used as evidence should something like Identity Theft occur.

2 - How this scam works.

This scam works by... well, what I find to be the most obvious tactic that a lot of scammers use:

The life changing offer of a lot money... You just need to do a little something in return... ;)

From here I will be pulling information from this article from Bitdefender, one of the most well known and well trusted Antivirus brands on the market today. (That I use in fact! :D)

In regards to the emails- the original method this scam was spread:

The spam emails were traced to IP addresses in Nigeria (40%), South Africa (16%), the US (14%), the Netherlands (13%), and Argentina and Brazil (with 5% each).

Here are a list of benefits the Illuminati claims they can offer you if you join, taken from the Bitdefender article as well:

A new house bought in any country of your choice.

A monthly salary of $200,000

A blessing for joining which includes 10 million dollars.

A "magic talisman" that can cure any kind of illness or infection.

The power to prosper and improve.

Free access to Bohemians grove.

First class/VIP treatment at any airport in the world.

One-year appointment approval with the top 10 world leaders.

Appointments with world celebrities of your choice.

A personal car with your name customized on it.

The seven-book of Moses to learn the language of ORIS for "powers".

And a lot more!...

You just have to buy the required items for you to become an initiate member into the 'brotherhood.'

Which is when they'll have you fill out a sheet with all of your personal information, work occupation, wage earnings, as well as request a photograph of you and/or your license for 'verification'.

If you do, they will steal your identity, use it to register for things like loans, ruin your credit, and your life is practically ruined. :(

Final Thoughts:

As I mentioned prior, you should never send this kind of information to anyone on the internet for any kind of reason if you do not know who you are speaking to on the other end, aka they're a stranger.

All these kinds of scams go off of are words, as that's all they are.

A promise made of just words.

No different than the free money or sugar baby/daddy scam where they promise you $3000 a month, all you have to do is 'send me $100+ to verify you want to do this.'

I know how life changing a lot of money can be, but do try to be logical and think about these things, for your sake and others!

so I have been on Rednote for like 24 hours and I have noted a couple things about the app that might be good to know for anyone who's considering registering there:

You can link your Instagram/Facebook or Twitter account. But to register a Rednote account requires a phone number for verification. Since most American social medias beg for your phone number, email, medical records, copyright to your posts, etc, this is very tame.

Until you have registered an account, Rednote's page is predominantly in Chinese, so translating apps will be useful.

On the topic of translating, if you're using a translating app, you must translate to simplified Chinese.

Translating comments on the app works pretty well.

If you're gonna post something in English, you should add Chinese subtitles along with it, just out of courtesy. It helps everybody out.

The app uses some generative AI for profile icons or post layouts, but it's optional. And you're not automatically opted in to AI features.

Please read their Terms of Service. As Rednote is based in China, it's their rules, and our American freedom of speech cannot protect us from social media regulations. Formality in how you post or comment will also be important in how many people find you, so say hi to people! You can read the Terms of Service in English, so don't worry about translating a wall of text.

This should really go without saying, but as a reminder to any brainrotten Americans: Just be human, and treat others as human. Chinese Rednote users have been so welcoming to Tiktok immigrants and American users, and American users in turn have shown respect and gratitude, and have even been willing to learn some Mandarin. There's a profound politeness and unity that I and probably many other Americans have never seen before, and it's just beautiful. If you're losing hope in the US, just know this: we people can still know kindness when our leaders have chosen to make enemies.

Finally, just.... don't get addicted to it like me :') I'm hooked. I'm genuinely enjoying the experience.

Just a reminder. This coming Tuesday 7/2/24 is when the big internet bills for California will be seen by their respective Committees for markup.

The time to send position letters has passed, but there's still time to call and email your assembly reps and state senators who are members of each committee to give them your opposition towards these bills and why. So make these last couple days count. Check to see if your reps are members of these committees, and tell them why you're opposed to them passing. (Most especially for these you can bring up the issue of the recent data breach of Twitter/X's age verification method just this past week to show why anything to do with age or ID verifidation is a bad idea.)
