It's WIP Wednesday, so have a snippet!
From my ongoing (and nearing completion!) fic Song of a Champion (a retelling of Breath of the Wild with Mipha as the protagonist [and miphlink as the main ship], AKA the coolest retelling out there because how can you argue with MOAR MIPHA?) (also my writing is amazeballs):
“What is this?” Riju spoke in a hushed voice, her tone one of awe and slight disbelief this time, rather than horror. Her booted feet echoed slightly on the stone, the soles crunching on scattered grains of sand, as she made her way over to something that laid in a patch of borrowed sunlight. Something round, that glittered almost blindingly in the golden pool. As Mipha watched, Riju picked it up carefully and held it to inspect it; a charged silence hung over them, and then Riju turned with an odd look on her face. “Lady Mipha, this—do you recall it? Do you think it is…” “… yes.” Her eyes prickled as she stared at what Riju held. At the sun-shaped piece of finely wrought metal, blazing with color that hadn’t faded even after a century. A second sun, one made of a perfectly cut ruby, shone from the very center, with gold crafted into a beautiful, stylized design that called to mind the rays of that celestial orb, stretching their limbs out across the boundless sky. Two round-cut blue topaz adorned the scarlet lacquer on either side of the ruby, while four square-cut emeralds made corners of a sort around the crimson gem. Completing the shield’s decoration was a ring of leaf-green lacquer with golden spheres set in at intervals, between which Gerudo symbols had been delicately painted on. “It is…” “Lady Urbosa’s Daybreaker shield…” Riju hugged it to her chest, her voice wavering slightly. “To think it would still be here after all this time… we have always believed it was lost in the desert.” She looked up, pain peeking around the edges of her carefully guarded expression. “Has anyone… do you know of what… how Lady Urbosa was found?” Mipha shook her head. Impa and Purah more than likely knew, but it wasn’t hard to guess at why they hadn’t spoken of it. “No.” “She was…” Riju looked away, her eyes locking on the shield again. “It took weeks before they located her body. And entirely by accident. A guard patrolling on her sand seal wiped out, so the story goes, and when she went to investigate what had caused her accident, found…” Her fingers trembled, her chipped nails scraping the metal. “She found what… what was left of Lady Urbosa, half-buried in the sand, almost unrecognizable but for the Champion’s garb still wrapped around her.” She turned her brittle gaze on Mipha again. “Just like the sash my guards told me a certain Zora vai had worn upon her entry to the city.” Mipha drew her breath in sharply. “You… knew, then? When I walked into your throne room?” “I suspected.”

And here's the consolidated list (mostly?) All from Diamond in the Rough, character notes below cut (not in same order as pics)
Considered a few different systems for assigning gems (gemstone family, value, etc.) but ultimately just went with color/relative familiarity of gem. There’s so many cool gems out there~ (I was trying to not be too repetitive with types/use more common ones though Quartz has a million interesting varieties!)
Mega Man, Blue Sapphire Sphere I wavered a lot on his ‘trinket’, Sapphire seemed obvious (especially with Proto being a ruby, both are corundum gemstones) but also considered blue diamond, alexandrite (blue/purple color shift), and aquamarine. For the jewelry, was also considering an atomic model (for chemistry?), a screwdriver, and slightly regretting not considering circlet
Roll, Amethyst Earring: primarily always wanted amethyst, but also considered heliodor, padparadscha sapphire (but it wasn’t quite the right color? and perhaps too obscure), tanzanite, morganite, zoisite, kunsite, iolite, (purple gems etc.) For shape, was considering spikes/fangs though that’s also Treble and Punk’s lol
Bass, Emerald Snake Arm Cuff: loosely based on a real arm cuff I saw in a book. Also considered black diamond, green diamond (he’s the titular ‘diamond in the rough’), and black opal
Proto Man, Ruby Aviator Badge: I went with ruby in the end, which seemed most obvious choice, but also considered red diamond and bixbite (red beryl)
Elec Man, Black Opal Ring: Also considered chatoyant Sapphire, Alexandrite (??? color shift?), chrysoberyl, angelite/anhydrite, and even hawkeye quartz (loosely inspired by a real hawkeye ‘lightning’ ring, before that I was thinking cufflinks, but seemed weird for him to become either a pair of gems, or even a single cufflink lol)
Jewel Man, Colorless Beryl (Goshenite) Monocle - also considered rock crystal, diamond, and Padparadscha sapphire. Apparently both beryl and rock crystal were historically used for eyeglasses. Monocle is a reference to gentleman thief archtypes, also they are just fancy. (Also I realized while drawing this that having a plique a jour monocle chain is probably super impractical, oh well lol)
Top Man, Imperial Topaz  Pendant in a Jeweled Egg - also considered alexandrite and spinel (for the pun, heh) and spessertite
Kalinka/Mega Girl, Rose Quartz Blossom Barrette: Pink :) though I considered other lesser known (but more valuable) pink gems
Quint, Alexandrite Wristwatch: Quint is a time traveler (of sorts), also considered model armillary sphere/astrolabe, a screwdriver, and jade or malachite or nanocrystal
Wily, Agate Cameo Belt Buckle: Loosely inspired by his skull belt in some of his game art, also considered amythist
Dr. Light, Alabaster bead on a bookmark tassel:  Dr. Light likes books! Was also considering rock crystal and goshenite
Ring Man, Zircon Hoop Bracelet: Reference to both his namesake and his carney background. Was also considering class ring (before assigning the ring to Elec Man) and a circlet. ‘Zircon’ just sounds circusy, must be the Z
Magnet Man, Garnet Horseshoe Amulet: garnets are apparently magnetic, also considered fridge magnet
Cut Man, Citrine Paperknife: for obvious reasons. I also considered topaz for the gem
Guts Man, Tourmaline Paperweight: funny/fitting pairing with the paper knife, the shape is in reference to the boulder he holds in game art (for a brief week, was a rock crystal until I realized those are clear lol smokey quartz would have made more sense)
Punk, Spinel Motorcycle Chain: ‘Spinel’ may be a derivative from Latin ’spina’ which means thorn
Rush, Labradorite Bone Collar Tag: Went for the pun!
Treble, Howlite Fang: and ditto for Treble
Others that weren’t in chapter (this list has no significance what-so-ever, I brainstormed a list of gems but also ‘trinkets’ and my brain just started associating lol)
Beat, Aquamarine Aigrette: Beat actually avoided transformation, but that’s what he would have been
Gyro Man: Mood Ring
Dr. Cossack: Selenite something or other
Dark Man: D20
Time Man: a pocket watch
Enker: Chess piece
Metal Man: A knife
Shadow Man: Also a knife, maybe jade
Yamato Man: Natsuke
Burner Man: Match Box
Fake Man: phenakite, derived from greek word for deceiver
Magic Man: Card Case
Needle Man: Rutilated quartz (it has needle-like inclusions)
Pharaoh Man: Scarab collar pin/cloak clasp
Star Man: Star Saphire?
And that's it from the notes, haha.

Resolute
A follow-up to this Site Write entry from last year.
Aeluan stared at the ring pinched between his fingers. An emerald-cut blue topaz on a band of platinum, flanked by trillion-cut diamonds, the ring was delicate and showy at the same time. It was meant to be a declaration shouted to the heavens. The inscription had been scrubbed off, the declaration it shouted wiped away as if it had never existed. As if none of it had ever existed.
How he’d agonized over the right time to give this ring. But he’d waited too long. Life had moved on without him and his ridiculous declarations. Seiya had moved on. Become someone else. Someone he didn’t recognize anymore. Everyone accused him of being too focused on appearance and sure, part of it was that he just wasn’t attracted to Viera, but no one seemed to notice how Seiya’s newfound comfort and confidence meant he flirted more. He became sharper. Harder. A confident Seiya didn’t need him. Everyone would argue that was a good thing, of course. And they’d be right; he didn’t want Seiya to live with anxiety and discomfort forever. But how could no one see that the Seiya he’d loved was gone?
Aeluan blinked hard, trying to ignore the stinging in his eyes. His beloved and all his friends believed him a prime asshole. No one gave a thought to how his heart was broken too. It was all confidence this, long life that. If anyone felt like they were abandoning a part of themselves, it was a part they no longer wanted. If he’d fallen in love with that part, well, he was abandoned too.
The only person who recognized his hurt was - ironically - the pink-haired Viera lady from the fight nights. And even then, she didn’t know Seiya - who he was or who he became. She sympathized with Aeluan for her own reasons. But it was nice to have someone in his corner. Aeluan just wished he didn’t have to be backed into a corner at all...
The ring mocked him with its sparkle. All the beauty he’d seen in it - the adoration and love it represented - was gone. It was just rocks and metal now. He clenched the ring in his fist and stepped through the doorway curtain into the Kugane pawn shop.
“I’d like to sell this.”

Exodus
Chapter 39
1 And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses. 2 And he made the ephod of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. 3 And they did beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue, and in the purple, and in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, with cunning work. 4 They made shoulderpieces for it, to couple it together: by the two edges was it coupled together. 5 And the curious girdle of his ephod, that was upon it, was of the same, according to the work thereof; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen; as the LORD commanded Moses. 6 And they wrought onyx stones inclosed in ouches of gold, graven, as signets are graven, with the names of the children of Israel. 7 And he put them on the shoulders of the ephod, that they should be stones for a memorial to the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses. 8 And he made the breastplate of cunning work, like the work of the ephod; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. 9 It was foursquare; they made the breastplate double: a span was the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof, being doubled. 10 And they set in it four rows of stones: the first row was a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this was the first row.
11 And the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. 12 And the third row, a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. 13 And the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper: they were inclosed in ouches of gold in their inclosings. 14 And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, every one with his name, according to the twelve tribes. 15 And they made upon the breastplate chains at the ends, of wreathen work of pure gold. 16 And they made two ouches of gold, and two gold rings; and put the two rings in the two ends of the breastplate. 17 And they put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings on the ends of the breastplate. 18 And the two ends of the two wreathen chains they fastened in the two ouches, and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod, before it. 19 And they made two rings of gold, and put them on the two ends of the breastplate, upon the border of it, which was on the side of the ephod inward. 20 And they made two other golden rings, and put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the forepart of it, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the ephod.
21 And they did bind the breastplate by his rings unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it might be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the breastplate might not be loosed from the ephod; as the LORD commanded Moses. 22 And he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue. 23 And there was an hole in the midst of the robe, as the hole of an habergeon, with a band round about the hole, that it should not rend. 24 And they made upon the hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined linen. 25 And they made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the hem of the robe, round about between the pomegranates; 26 A bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, round about the hem of the robe to minister in; as the LORD commanded Moses. 27 And they made coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons, 28 And a mitre of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine linen, and linen breeches of fine twined linen, 29 And a girdle of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, of needlework; as the LORD commanded Moses. 30 And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
31 And they tied unto it a lace of blue, to fasten it on high upon the mitre; as the LORD commanded Moses. 32 Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they. 33 And they brought the tabernacle unto Moses, the tent, and all his furniture, his taches, his boards, his bars, and his pillars, and his sockets, 34 And the covering of rams' skins dyed red, and the covering of badgers' skins, and the vail of the covering, 35 The ark of the testimony, and the staves thereof, and the mercy seat, 36 The table, and all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread, 37 The pure candlestick, with the lamps thereof, even with the lamps to be set in order, and all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light, 38 And the golden altar, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the hanging for the tabernacle door, 39 The brasen altar, and his grate of brass, his staves, and all his vessels, the laver and his foot, 40 The hangings of the court, his pillars, and his sockets, and the hanging for the court gate, his cords, and his pins, and all the vessels of the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of the congregation, 41 The cloths of service to do service in the holy place, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and his sons' garments, to minister in the priest's office. 42 According to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel made all the work. 43 And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.
