Hey I know I'm not the type but times are hard - I have a four month old baby and no childcare options so returning to work is off the cards for now. Even just a reblog of this post or a read of it will make a huge difference to me.
I'd really appreciate if anyone fancied a look at my new Etsy shop, it's going to be mainly jewellery and antique curiosities. We've currently got some really lovely gold rings for sale, all 1920s or earlier and have some great little pendants and charms coming soon too.
I can assure you all of the quality of our items, my husband is an antiques auctioneer and valuer so we are checking all the items in person before buying them and pricing them as fairly as possible for what they are.
I know they're luxury items and lots of people don't have the money for that at the moment, but if you could just have a nosy and maybe a favourite that would mean the world to me and would be a big step towards getting us some sales to support my family.
Love you all very much and please don't feel obligated to do anything you don't want to!

Welp, I was hoping to have a finished piece by now. Unfortunately while attempting to get the seat for the center stone prepared, I discovered I had placed the prongs about 0.5mm too close. So, I had to drill those out and put new prongs in.
The drilling out went well enough, but when I attempted to put the new prongs in, the solder wouldn't flow. So, now the pave and the metal itself are starting to show signs of heat damage.
I decided to put this piece aside and start over. I'm going to do a bezel setting instead of prongs just to take this point of failure out of the loop. I love the look of a good bezel setting, especially after bright cutting everything.
Tumblr media
Forgot to take pictures while I was working on it, but a new hex halo has been cut and I've got the space for the center stone prepared.
Tumblr media
It sits in there really nicely. Hopefully that will make pushing the bezel over the edges a fairly simple process.
I'm trying to decide my order of operations from here. The center stone is a topaz, which means I can't really polish over it or be very aggressive with it at all. I'll probably set the center stone as the absolute last step.
Next should be locating all the holes for the pave and pre-drilling them. I may also cut around the pave areas so I can get a cleaner cut than trying to engrave around the seats. Probably the best option since the shoulder next to the pave is going to have to be pushed over as a bezel.
Credit where it's due: This center stone is a 3.48ct sky blue topaz cut by @gemcutter_komarov. It's a beautiful piece and hoping I can do it justice and really show off the pattern when all is said and done. This is his IG post for this stone

Going through boxes as I settle in our new home. My son and I have been free from abuse for 20 months. It's been an insane ride. We found ourselves homeless in a state away from home, we were taken in by a domestic violence shelter.
At least I got some pretty jewelry out of it. He gave the upgraded ring to me in Savannah, Georgia. Our son was months old, and we were vending a booth at an upscale expo. He purchased it from one of the vendors.
I love it. Every bit of it. It makes me so happy. This is not what my husband thinks. My husband thinks it is dissatisfying to me for one reason or another, namely (as I am now discovering I may be neuro-divergent) that I am not good at showing emotions of happy and satisfaction. I also recently learned that I have an abnormal serotonin production. This explains why I've been melancholy my life thus far.
I remember this beautiful night fondly. We took the fairy across the water. Husband, wife and, new born baby, all snug in his carriage. We were just strolling through downtown Savannah. There was a sax 🎷 player on the street, he played the most perfect song: baby shark(we actually love it!). We laughed and giggled. I might have even stolen a soda that night to make it on the fairy. Oops.
And then, in the RV something ugly happens. Yelling/screaming. We're both really bad about letting things go. Tensions increase quickly.
I have been across the country with my husband, and we have countless stories like this. We were pregnant with our son. I wanted the adventure. He gave it to me. It was spectacular. Sadly, my husband is not satisfied with my 'happy output'. For him, the trip was in vain.
Anyway, at least I got some pretty rings out of it!
Fun fact: Mystic Topaz is also about domestic violence?? Look it up!
Anyway, life is funny. I chose mystic topaz. Maybe I chose the abuse too?
All I know is, now we are free from abuse. We are alive, thriving, and smiling more than ever!

Another gypsy set ring here with diamond and vibrant pink topaz gemstones as the stars of the show. The simple gold band seeks to bring the eye towards its centre and creates a beautiful vintage shaping. This ring has an element of fun whilst still remaining an elegant piece xx

30. Diamond
@jegulus-microfic | March 30: diamond | word count: 619
If there was one thing that Regulus Black was known for it was being picky.
James has been thinking about this for months, even now as he walks back to their apartment he can't help but think about it.
Regulus had grown up in a fancy house in London with butlers and people who were willing to adhere to his every whim. This of course makes him, frankly at times, a very spoiled boy. While he had grown out of some of his habits from childhood, one thing neither of the Black brothers could ever outgrow was their expensive taste.
James has never minded this, he knew about all of the things that Regulus liked well before they got together. He loves Regulus and is more than happy to indulge him with all of those things.
This all tied into his dilemma.
Since he has never shied away from buying Regulus gifts. It's one of his many love languages. If he sees something that Regulus might like he will immediately buy it and give it to him, he won't even wait for a birthday or special occasion.
One of the things he will often buy for Regulus is jewelry. His boyfriend loves it, he trades out rings, necklaces, and earrings.
So what do you give your significant other that has a large assortment of rings (a lot of which) you buy for him yourself) each just as fancy as the next for an engagement ring?
This has been driving him crazy.
There are of course a few things that he knows. Like that he wants to get it engraved so that even if it is not custom-made it will be special, he knows it has to be silver, and he knows that it should not be overly flashy.
At the moment his biggest dilemma is what stone he will use. A diamond? no, too classic and boring. Pearl? too simple. Alexandirat? no blue wasn't either of their colors. Birth month stone? Basic. Opal, Emerald, Topaz… nothing seemed right. Nothing screamed, “Regulus Black I love you, marry me”.
He has seen hundreds of rings by now. Passed by so many jewelry stores, and had seen rings that Regulus would love…so why can't he seem to pick one?
Realistically James is aware that regardless of the ring that he gets him he will say yes. But how could he propose if he doesn't even know what stone Regulus would want? Isn't there some sort of guide or rule that says they should know?
The longer he waits the more reasons he comes up with as to why Regulus might say no and it becomes all too clear why he is having a hard time picking a stone. If he doesn't ask he doesn't get rejected.
Maybe taking the long way home wasn't doing any good to his overthinking. But Regulus had said that he would be home late and he thought the day was nice enough to go out.
The thoughts lay heavy on his stomach as he opened the door to their apartment.. and then almost like they had never even existed they vanished as he stepped in.
In the middle of their living room with flowers scattered around him and the light from the dining room hitting his face stood Regulus with a small box in his hand. He was smiling, a full real smile. Something that had been so rare when they met but he was now blessed with every day.
When he looks down at the ring in the box, he sees the complementary ring to the first one he had gotten Regulus, he knows that there is no world where Reg would've said no, or even hesitated.

Jeweler!Dream is DOING THINGS TO ME most of my ancestors on my dad’s side were jewelers including my grandpa who showed me a few things (guess I’m a jeweler by blood) and FUCK this is just some GOOD SHIT
For further jeweler!Dream consideration- when he proposes, he makes Hob’s engagement ring himself (of course, no one else is worthy of the privilege) it’s whatever Hob wants- but Hob is no basic gold and diamond boy, not after being with Dream.
He spares no expense- the band is 22 karat gold (finest/highest karat without sacrificing strength, as gold is a very soft metal and he wants this to withstand years of Hob wearing it every day) and covered in tiny yet near flawless black diamonds. The main stone is (duh) an almost 3 carat, flawless, deep blood-red ruby that Dream spent months tracking down and haggling over the price. He makes another band to wear with it, 22 karat gold inlaid with orange topaz.
Every year for their anniversary, Dream takes Hob to a gem show and lets him pick the stone for that year’s gift.
Yes, gorgeous gorgeous. Here's the original jeweller post.
Hob decked out in gold is just my favourite thing to imagine. He's got the perfect skin tone to make the metal absolutely glow. I can picture him lounging in nothing but gold necklaces and harnesses with his skin oiled to a perfect shine. He's like Dream’s very own sun god.
Of course all their marriage jewellery is unmatched by anything the world has seen: the engagement rings, the wedding bands, hell even the garter under Hob’s luxurious wedding dress. They're all constructed meticulously with no expense spared.
And of course Hob wants to return the favour and make something pretty for Dream. I can imagine him taking a very simple jewellery class so he can make a rudimentary but adorable necklace for Dream. And of course Dream treats it like it's the most beautiful, unique, priceless object he's ever handled.
Honestly Dream would probably go down a mine himself to get a specific jewel for Hob to wear. If his husband expresses the slightest interest in a stone, Dream is in obsession mode until he's made something pretty for Hob. Your honour, they are insane about it all <3
