porky's sprites in m3 all kinda look like they're just his earthbound sprite with a new color palette, so i wanted to try making a more specifically mother 3-styled porky!

used butch's sprite to start out with, but i made a lot of changes along the way and i'm pretty happy with how they've turned out

With some recent great video essays about the state of youtube popping up i began thinking about just, how much I'm starting to hate 'drama youtubers'

People posting videos almost immediately after any controversy pops up, not researching it enough or hell, not even doing that and just using a handful of 'Oh this person heard that someone else said' type of tweets. And if the creator is niche/small channel the accusation can have barely any truth in it, but people will go after them, because they trust the person covering to be honest and good.

But hell, even when the accused person is actually shitty, theres just so much off putting things to me in many videos of these type. Its the lack of actual sympathy towards victims, its the merch plugging before you talk about someone being put through hell, its the comedy bits inbetween clips of someone recounting their trauma (especially looking at the channels covering emilyartful situation, probably my tipping point in my approach towards these channels with how awful their coverage was)

It might be just me being late to the party of noticing these things. But i mostly just wanted to see if anyone else feels the same

Continuing Rose’s Fiance Character Design Sheet

For today, I wanted to complete his full character design by drawing the back side of him. I looked very hard at male anatomy and tried to make his bum look just right. There is no way I was going to cover up my hard work again, so I made sure his cape want in the way and showed off his back which was a win for me.

I did a similar pose to the first but with his face looking behind him with an evil smirk. Once I was finished with the sketch, I then put the clothes on once again. However, there was something off with how he looked, I think it's his shoulders or maybe the placement of his head is too low. Whatever it is, I can always fix it on procreate when I do the digital sketch.

After I completed that, I then thought that it would be a cool idea to create a crest for his family name. I didn't really do anything special.

I just looked at a bunch of family crests of interest and found so many fancy-looking shields with the ground, animals, and flowers on them as well.

I couldn't really make the crest too fancy, so I thought about making a simple shield with the classic two swords crisscrossing behind the shield. I know there is only one on the paper but I just didn't want to draw the other, knowing I can just copy, paste and flip the sword when I do it digitally on procreate.

I then thought about making the centrepiece of the shield, a rose with a little simple crown above it. This would make sense why this man would want to marry Rose out of all people, use she looks like one, but also her name is Rose and Crimson is her last name and red is her fiance's favourite colour so that is what I'm going to colour his cape as. It's just coming full circle. Perhaps this man is a perfectionist and he can be that character that said “perfect” a lot.

After I completed everything, it was time to give him a name. I knew this character is a Lord so it should be a name that rolls off the tongue. So I thought of Lord Vincent, which I thought fits him very well.

But it's funny when I was thinking of a name, the name Lord Voldemort popped up in my head! That was hilarious.

Can you imagine it... Lord Voldemort!

Watching with Intent

I’ve been thinking about what to write for this blog, I know we’re supposed to reflect but I didn’t want to add in more words to the conversation without adding in any new ideas. Just now, I watched a video by one of my favorite YouTube artists, Emily Artful. Now she said a lot of useful things in the video but something that struck out to me majorly was this one phrase “watch with intent”, which is the idea of in order to make your art better, be better at consuming art, learn how to break it into parts that make it whole and see what makes it beautiful. Now this is something that really resonated with me because I don’t think of watching Netflix as a waste of time, rather something that actively stimulates my brain and makes me a better artist, in whatever sense of the word. I think it’s enlightening to put a name to an idea or belief you’ve always held but couldn’t identify, and I think this phrase, “watch with intent” does exactly that for me.

And I think this is what this class is really about, people look at me weird when I tell them about my assignments, how do I explain to them why I’m making a list of everything I own? But it occurs to me that you’re not actually interested in what we own, but rather how we see the things closest to us and what we consider as our own. I think the point of this class to make us look at the same world we’ve known all our lives, but this time with intent. And I like the idea that the entire world is made up of art that we can break down into parts and build back up again.

The following week we are helping a friend move while friends visit. It’s going to be a hello of a month. My anxiety of getting work done sucks but gotta keep relationships up.

Inspiration for Valko’s Character Design

This is a sketch I found on Pinterest that helped inspire Valko. It's nothing special but the boots and the cape-like coat made it onto the design.

I do like this character design and his shirt as well. Maybe later on in the story, he might wear a similar shirt just because he cares about Rose a lot more now and wants to cover up...or it's just winter and he hates how cold his human form is all of the time. Either way, it's funny.
