This one felt good. 🏊🏼‍♀️🚴🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️ I placed 5th in my age bracket, 34th overall, and finished with my best time ever! I’m proud of all the athletes that raced, and to be a part of this community. One of the things I love about this sport, besides the way it pushes me mentally and physically, is the camaraderie. I saw some bloody bike crashes and runners upchucking and barely making it across the finish line, but athletes were encouraging each other and in some cases, physically lifting each other up. There’s a mutual respect, and it’s a privilege to race next to such individuals. Now back to recovery mode with ice baths, massage guns, hot tubs, yoga, and massages. Time to build back some muscle! 💪🏽

I have always had a hard time maintaining my weight. I would easily gain weight and it felt virtually impossible to lose even a single pound. That all changed when I started following the carnivore diet in 2015 - while my energy levels increased, other issues such as joint pain and brain fog emerged. It was then that I discovered my MTHFR A1298C gene defect, which is related to methylation and detoxification problems. After further research, I began to take B-Vitamins as recommended by Dr. Elizabeth Grady, although she noted that this was not something that needed to be taken for life - just until my body balanced itself out again. Sure enough, after taking the vitamins for an extended period of time the scale started shifting downwards, inches were lost and the brain fog and oxalate dumping stopped! First one in the pool today! This training week was tough with ups and downs but it all made me stronger!! I was focusing on the high-elbow catch/pull during Tuesday’s masters swim session.  I thought I had it down but not so much.  
A couple of pros informed me that I was dropping my elbow throughout a good portion of the pull.  I was kind of bummed out hearing this because I felt convinced that I was doing it right.  But no worries, the very next day I met up with my swim coach and we took some video.  As clear as day, the guys were right- I was dropping my elbow! 
So we worked on some drills and I went back to the pool the very next day.         I slowed down my stroke and I practiced the drills with every single stroke I took.  I got it! I kept my elbow high throughout the catch and throughout the underwater stroke. But to be sure of this, I asked the same guy who said I was dropping my elbow to watch me again.  I did a 50 and as soon as I was done, I looked over at him and he said the words, “much better!”  Oh, that so made my day! Progress baby- it is a beautiful thing!!
The real silver lining with this story- without struggle, without challenge, there will never be growth.  You have to fall down sometimes, learn from your mistakes, and then use that to get stronger, faster, and better! The key is to fail forward fast.  You fail, you fail quickly, you learn from it, and then you move forward!
