Antique 18th century walnut chest of draws restoration

This chest of draws come in for restoration, the chest was in reasonable condition apart from the carcass being faded and the draw runners were worn. The oak worn runners were replaced .My biggest issue was with the top . The top had dried out causing the veneers to blister , crack and lift in places. This is a common issue with walnut , specially with fugured walnut. The old glue was removed and any dirt from underneath the veneers , before a thinner scotch glue was injected under neath the veneer and was then cramped down or heavy weights placed across the press the veneers down.This was left over night and a warm iron was used to press down the veneers that needed doing. This soften the glue and with pressure lays the veneer down. Once done the top was sanded and the inlay replaced. The chest was then cleaned and French p9lished , bring some colour back into the chest. The brass handles were cleaned and put back on .

I got out for the first time today in a couple of weeks. My youngest daughter is not only getting married this year (as is my oldest) but she’s also moving out next weekend 🥺, so I went to see her house and take a few things over to her. Oh my gosh, it’s so cute! She’s moving to the Cherry Street area here in Tulsa which is considered part of mid-town. It is a neat part in town- within walking distance to awesome restaurants, bars, shops etc. It’s a charming old home that just needs a little TLC. I’ll move my office into her old bedroom as it’s at the front of the house, gets loads of bright light and the windows allow me to look out and can see when the mailman, UPS and/or Fed Ex drivers are here to pick up shipments. 😀 I went through some pictures of the last house we lived in and remembered these chairs shown here in the family room there. I think I may use them in her old room/my new office. I’m trying to think about the fun I’ll have decorating that room instead of how much I’m going to miss Ashton…although she’ll only be less than 2 miles away from me. There are lots of things changing in my life right now! That’s pretty much been most of how I spent my Sunday. Earlier, I spent time and a lot of energy to clean the dining area as it was quite messy. I've placed a rose pattern canvas over the table for few months til somehow, it kinda infested with tiny red ants. 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜... I was examining the floor, chairs, table and under the table but couldn't really find where they come from.. so my man said, pour salt. Hence, I poured salt around and under the table, scrub the floor with a damp mop and then Mimi 😺 came walking over and sat on top of the salt. 😑 Got his ass off the dining area (imagine him licking his paws and then that "salty" 😲 face. 🤣), cleaned the furniture, took the table canvas off and also cleaned the bread bin. Realised this double deck bread bin is still looking real good and pretty since day 1. It was bought from #taobao 😁.
