#summer studying challenge 2021
Long time, no post.
I started learning some basic latin terminology I would need as a first year. Of course I will take latin class, but this is just a preparation so I won't be shocked. (of course I will be shocked, hey, it's medschool)
Also these two weeks are my last in my job. I am glad it'll be over. #cannot wait for payment anymore
Also, guess who got first dose of vaccination on Friday 13th? MEEEEEEEEE! I am super happy! Vaccine is a step to end the pandemic, please, if you can, get a vaccination. Thanks.

What have you been up to to these days? How’ve you been managing this period of self-isolation? I got back from LA to Tel Aviv about 2 weeks ago, so just finished my quarantine days at the house — playing and composing on the piano, working on new beats with a bunch of ECM records I bought in California, reading "The Art of Dreaming" by Carlos Castandeda (third time im reading this...) and practicing yoga and meditation. It's all pretty chill for now. What were your goals for this particular mix? To show some of the new music im working on with LakeView, Avishai Cohen (Trumpet) and myself next to some of the best releases of my friends iogi, Abro, Liquid Saloon and Masok. There’s a few songs off your new album Spiritual Sleaze in here — talk us through the ones you chose. There's two tracks from my new album here. "Eagle in the Lodge" was recorded with Nitai Hershkovits in the Stones Throw studios only few days after a Yage ceremony and a sweat lodge experience. The sweaty, downtempo, earthy vibe of the sweat lodge and the Mexican Shaman I met then definitely got into this track. "Pre Memory Circle" was built at the same sessions with Nitai at the STH studios. It took us probably the whole day to figure out this track and get the right sounds and melodies for the development of the composition. Which artists on this mix should we check out after we listen? iogi, Masok, Avishai Cohen, Liquid Saloon, Nitai Hershkovits, and Abro. What's next from the Rejoicer project? A few albums I produced and played on will be released later this year with LakeView, Maya Dunietz, Avishai Cohen (ECM) to name few... also just finished the next 10 Rejoicer tracks called "Voodoo at Home" temporarily... also working on a big project sampling Jazz and recording Jazz artists on top of the beats. I'm also recording new stuff with an amazing Israeli singer Karolina, and working on the fourth Buttering Trio album. There is also a new audio visual show Jengo and me made for the 2020 tour — I hope we get to play it later this year.

Pascal Schumacher Quartet
Bang My Can
Enja, 2011
Pascal Schumacher: vibes, glockenspiel;
Franz Von Chossy; piano;
Christophe Devisscher: bass;
Jens Düppe: drums.
Bang My Can is the Pascal Schumacher Quartet's fifth album, and it finds the band expanding its range as it creates yet more fascinating music. Schumacher, the Quartet's Luxembourg-born leader, is an exceptional vibes player with a sparkling, fluid sound that is by turns romantic, cheeky, and dark. The band has been together in this lineup since 2008, when pianist Franz von Chossy replaced original member Jef Neve, and the players have developed a strong understanding that leads to some superb interplay. Schumacher's "Seven Fountains" has a chamber jazz beauty, a hint of the Modern Jazz Quartet but with a little more of an edge. Bassist Christophe Devisscher's "Elmarno" and Schumacher's "Bang My Can" share a faster tempo and a more upbeat mood, while drummer Jens Düppe's "Headspin" has the driving, rocky beat of the Neil Cowley. "A Fisherman's Tale," another Devisscher composition, is a slow, melancholy tune that hints at the tensions to come. The final tunes are a stark contrast to the upbeat grace of much of the album. "No Dance On Volcano Ashes" has a beauty of its own, but it's a sad and reflective beauty, with Devisscher's bass sounding at first melancholy and then, as he builds up flurries of notes with increasing intensity, enraged. "Ghosttrackmusic" is, quite simply, disturbing. After almost a minute of silence a low bass thump begins very gradually before Schumacher overlays a short, threatening phrase on vibes. The phrase repeats, after long pauses with only the bass to be heard, before the tune fades once again into silence. It's a small masterpiece—but definitely not a tune to listen to by candlelight. Bang My Can builds on the Pascal Schumacher Quartet's previous albums, adding tension and some genuinely dark music to an already impressively broad range of moods. This is an imaginative band, with the talent to use that imagination creatively. The resulting music puts the Quartet at the forefront of European jazz.
