“Season 2 episode 6 ruined me.”
“Oh yeah which show?”
“The gay one.”
“Can you be more specific?”
“With the middle aged men.”
“I’m gonna need you to help me out here.”
“One is the classic good guy and has white hair, the other is the dark brooding one with a secret soft side.”
“This isn’t narrowing it down.”
“There are major paranormal themes, yet the main couple exhibit extremely human character flaws?”
“…”
“There’s a lapel grab.”
“You’re fucking kidding me with this right?”
Edit:
Omg hello 3000+ notes, I write GO meta
Edit edit: "You know, the one with the middle aged men who are friends in real life playing a couple on-screen" - @asphodel124 in the reblogs doing the Lord's work <3

I noticed a detail in the kiss scene that I need to talk about before I combust
Okay, so, I was scrolling through the Our Flag Means Death tag and saw this pair of gifs by @eddie-redcliffe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Towards the end of the second one, you can see Ed begin to pull back from what is a very chaste kiss. This is when the shot cuts to the over the shoulder of Stede and his hand moves into Ed's hair, holding him in place and turning the kiss more passionate.
Tumblr media
Ed's posture becomes more tense before he reaches up and pushes Stede away gently, asking him if they can go slow.
Tumblr media
Stede literally did the middle-aged-gay-man-discovers-he-really-likes-intimacy-after-kissing-another-man thing we've been speculating and joking about for a year and a half! Sweet touch-starved baby boy was given the tiniest bit of physical contact and he grabbed hold of it as hard as he could to keep it from going away again.
And Ed calling their hand-holding "perfect" is just so wonderful and reassuring. Almost like he realized that Stede needed some sort of touch to ground him, something to keep reminding him that they're together and working towards more even if Ed isn't ready to go all the way yet. He meets Stede in the middle, finds a place where they're both comfortable and makes it clear that that kind of touch is welcome. Stede needed reassurance that he wasn't being pushed away and Ed gave it to him perfectly and I just-

I just.. feel so sad for Stede. He's finally a good captain, who can protect his crew, who is loved by them, chosen by them. He's reunited with the man he loves, who agrees with him that they can create something real. He had good sex and made love for the first time in his life with someone who actually wanted it.
And the day after his crew is leaving him, his love decides that the night before (and potentially their entire relationship) is a mistake and his newly found status as decent captain is totally gone.
Like. How is Izzy Hands the only fixed point in his life wtf
And the worst thing is, he's still gonna try and help, save everyone else.

Bro the fucking role reversal of Izzy being the one flirting with Lucius and Lucius being the one to push Izzy away as opposed to season 1
That whole fucking scene of Izzy stepping closer and fucking stealing the cigarette and then going to put it in his mouth?!?! Ohmygod us sprizzy shippers were being fucking fed with episode 5

Mary is 100% right—they are fourteen-year-old boys. Stede's back there rocking his hips back and forth like, "Hi, do you like me? I like you."
Tumblr media
And Ed's going, "Like you? Do I even know you?" while covering up the notebook on which he's written "Mrs. Edward Bonnet" five hundred times in varying fonts.

oh, and you know what else?
ned going, "what happened to you? what happened? you used to be a killer. but now you're just a washed-up, low-born, dirtbag" to ed?
like okay, that of course kicked stede's protectiveness into high-gear. because he himself has had to endure years and years and YEARS of being talked down to, so you can be DAMN sure no one's going to do so to his beloved.
but once again, ONCE AGAIN, it was another phantom, another notch in the "you defile beautiful things" belt. it's just another bit reinforcement to stede that he was the one to "happen" to ed. that his true self, his personality, his softness, he...was what happened to ed.
that he "brought history's greatest pirate to ruin."
so, not only did ned insult his beloved, but struck that same, terrible (and entirely untrue) chord. it was like a string really, a string that had been pulled so SO tight with no chance to relax, no chance to fix itself.
and what happens when a string is pulled put under that much tension for so long?
it snaps.
