hey, how long have you been writing fanfic and any tips? (asks with rizz)

hey (answers with rizz) idk when this ask was sent bc i’ve been inactive bc of school sorry abt that hope im not super late i’ve been writing since i was the very young age of 11, so here are some of my tips:

— “practice makes perfe— 💥” thats very common advice but its saur true.. if someone looked at something i wrote in 2020 and looked at one of my more recent works, you’d see some different, and that’s because i practiced by writing a lot (also idc ppl think my writing hasn’t changed IT HAS even if its slight, and no one can convince me otherwise)

— be consistent for the first few months as practice and to also build a very small audience (if that means something to you 😭 if it doesn’t its fine, its still good practice)

— don’t be afraid to look at other author’s writing and see how things flow, it oddly helps with developing a style. ik you’re taking inspo from these authors so it’s not yours yours yet, but along the way— this will basically develop your style (tho DO NOT PLAGIARIZE I BEG OF YOU ‼️)

— if you suddenly think of an idea WRITE THAT SHIT DOWN SO YOU DONT FORGET (include details, because you don’t know how many times i wrote an idea on my notesapp and looked at it like ??? because i lacked context)

— look at writing tips on tumblr (helpful) specifically the ones that tell you some details on how to portray emotions, describe, build a plot line and what makes a work interesting. (if you look at the ones that describe words, look at their definitions— they might mean the same generally, but have different vibes since yk.. there are different types of happy, for example. ecstatic is different than relieved.)

— take criticism. (that’s all i’ll say— it won’t just help you improve but it’s also very humbling LMAO)
