I think Eren would be the type of person to brush off his feelings for you at first.

He has a goal of killing all titans, and most of the time he’s just frustrated or angry because he wants to be able to achieve this.

Where would he have the time for love in his life?

Initially, he confused his feelings towards you as irritation. Why were there always butterflies in his stomach when you were near, or why would his palms get sweaty when you’d touch his shoulder?

Eren computed this emotion of ‘romantic attraction’ as hatred.

Hate and love were always two sides of the same coin.

Which, honestly, just makes him more angry, because he can’t control his behavior around you.

He’ll stutter or slip around you, which causes him to blush like the goofy idiot he is. In turn, his flustered expression causes the blush on his cheeks to deepen as he becomes increasingly annoyed about why he can’t be normal around you.

You always found him cool and endearing, despite him (constantly) yelling.

He had his own charm I guess?

After Eren accepted that maybe his feelings towards you weren’t about irritation, he would train to sweat out his feelings.

He honestly wasn’t sure if you were into him, which kind of made his heart ache because he wouldn’t be able to have you.

So, he puts his attention on getting better at combat, ODM gear, or whatever.

Eren has zero clue you like him back.

At first you thought he wasn’t that into you, but you noticed that every time he’d leave after talking to you, the tips of his ears would be tinged pink.

He doesn’t pick up on any of your hints, since his mind is usually going a mile a minute during his interactions with you.

So, the way he becomes aware of your feelings is when you have to force the situation to make his feelings come out.

On purpose, you made him agitated.

The minute he saw you, Jean knew you were his dream girl.

His notepad is something he keeps extremely protected; lest someone find it, he’s done for.

He’s written incredibly embarrassing entries about you in it too.

Jean will also go out of his way to do things for you in order for you to notice him.

When Captain Levi puts you on cleaning duty, he’ll always be there to lend an extra hand so you get your chores done faster.

You think that this is extremely sweet of him, and you’ll try to do the same thing for him in return.

You’re both honestly stupid because everyone around you can sense something between you, except for you two.

Jean doesn’t really know how to express his feelings in a genuine way without making a joke or comment about it.

But don’t be offended by this!

He’s just using humor to cover up his vulnerability.

On one specific day, you were walking back to Jean’s dorm after combat training, just talking about what you did.

Armin is easily the one on this list who recognizes his feelings for you first, and takes it the best.

However, he’s really shy and nervous in general, so that get’s doubled when he’s around you.

Although Armin accepts the fact that he has a crush on you and wants to be yours, he’ll try and ignore you when he can.

Of course he’ll be cordial and polite in your interactions, but if he can help it, he’ll slip away somewhere so you don’t see him.

Mans is a bit of an overthinker so he’ll be laying in his dorm room at night, staring up at the ceiling, thinking of everything he could have said or done differently that day.

Armin isn’t confident in himself at all about your feelings towards him.

He’s a smart dude and can pick up social cues very well, but with you, it’s like nothing is there at all?

Where is the telltale tension?

Unfortunately for Armin, you’re very good at hiding your feelings.

Because just like him, you don’t know if he likes you back, and you wouldn’t be able to handle that rejection if he doesn’t.

Coupled with the fact that you’re also a bit of a shy overthinker yourself, it’s hard to flirt with Armin.

The only reason why you two would ever find out that you like each other is because your friends had to force it out of you both.

Kind of like Jean, it seems like everybody but you two can sense there’s something going on.

The only difference is, the both of you have literally told everyone and their mother about your crushes except to each other.

« Day one after realizing my feeling for Eren : I don’t know why I even started this, it’s not like anyone would even read it. « Day ten after realizing my feelings for eren : I realized that I’d never taken time to write my first interaction with him. I should have started with it. We were all talking in the forest after a particularly hard training, we weren’t still soldiers yet. One of the Jean’s friends, I think his name was Marco (he died during the Frost event I’m sad that I couldn’t get to know him more) asked us where we wanted to be selected as a soldier. Most of the people wanted to be on the police brigade while I wanted to be on the garrison.

I don’t know why (what was wrong with him ?), but Eren started to yell at me. He cockily said that I shouldn’t be here If I wanted to be on the garrison in the first place. All of them were losers and they should keep clearing the deck. Obviously I was taken apart because he was so mean of me for literally not reason ? I didn’t have much choice but to slap him on the face telling him that if he was so strong like he pretends to then he shouldn’t struggling with the gear material and yet he was the worst by far.

He didn’t answer back and instead Armin separated us.

Two days later, he came to me to apologize for his behavior. He explained to me that he got a vivid dream where he was living again the death of his mother and couldn’t help but felt angry against the garrison of Shinganshima for doing nothing to prevent it. Though he shouldn’t be a reason to be so mad at me while l’ve literally done nothing against him. Before answering a quick glance helped me to notice Armin trying to hide behind a tree, of course it has to be his words it didn’t sound like him. I told him that everything was forgiven and that it shouldn’t say something like that anymore or I would kill him. He didn’t have any excuse, that day when he yelled those horrible thing at you he was particularly exhausted. He was working 24/7 on his titan ability and couldn’t manage to do anything. Besides, he was still sad from Reiner’s betrayal and couldn’t help but wondering why he will do that to him and his friends. Some nights he was bothering by his nightmare but they started to feel more like memory and not just bad dream that his tricky brain would craft for him.

He was starting to feel as if he was here before, as if he already lived those dreams while he never went into those places in his dreams.

His mind was already a mess and the frustration of not being able to fill his mission was getting on his nerve, and seeing you looking at him with those pity eyes. That was enough for him, and he just yelled at you again and again until you left doing your best to not cry in front of him.

That day, Y/N died.

No one except that, it was supposed to be a very easy mission, but things didn’t go as planned.

Reiner, Bertholt, and a monkey titan came to protect Shinganshima ready to take Eren as well. Everyone trained for that day, but it didn’t go as planned, quickly the monkey titan destroyed horses, blocked the only way for soldiers to run away.

Quickly even though they were out numbered, Erwin knew they were no other way than sacrifice themselves in order to help Levi in his attempt to kill the monkey.

You weren’t surprised nor were you sad, you felt that it was your final day you just felt it. Somehow it helped you get on your horse running as fast as possible knowing you would die eventually from the rock that were send by the monkey or by titans that was surrounded you.

You were relaxed, and as a rock was flying over you, you kinda saw the older Eren looking at you with a sad smile. Then you understood everything, that dream, it was him. He somehow talked to you in an area you were sure you never been there before. He wanted to apologize because you were about to die and he never managed to tell you in front of you.

And as the rock was falling right into you, you just smile some tears rolling into your cheek. While Eren can't physically time travel, I find that these lyrics can relate to how he kind of knows what's going to happen and despite trying to change his fate, or at least trying to make choices to lead to something different, he can't.

But you can't outrun the preordained. You can only act with the hand you've been dealt.

I also think of the titan shifter's lifespan and how they don't live forever, despite being so powerful.

This part of the song is definitely a little heartbreaking, knowing that Eren dies and he can't grow old with Mikasa.

Despite that, everyone moves on and builds new lives for themselves with the temporary peace they've been given.

That he wants to be on the forefront of her mind for at least another ten years, despite being dead.

It's a selfish desire, despite the fact that he won't be able to spend time with her. And yet, Mikasa is still the one thing Eren can count on to still be there for him, waiting.

Eren makes stupid decisions all the time, but at the root of it all he doesn't want his friends to suffer, even if some of his actions still caused that suffering.

Think of when he told Mikasa that he hated her.

But at the end of those lyrics, you can feel that sense of sadness where he tells Mikasa to forget him and throw the scarf away.

Once again, Mikasa being a devoted and loyal to Eren, even if he has left her heartbroken.

I think at the end of the episode when we see that she grew old and passed away, we also see that she's holding the same flowers that were on Eren's gravestone.

I think this may be why she said see you later, because she would reunite with him in the afterlife. The last two lines of this song remind me of that.

Obviously this song is in the perspective of a couple but I think you can be a bit imaginative and include Armin in part, regarding how he desperately wanted to see the outside world.

There was so much they hadn't seen or explored yet, and that was one of their original ambitions/goals. They used to be so bright-eyed.

At the end of the day, though, everyone knows that with being a scout comes inevitable death, pains, and losses.

While chasing for that freedom and exploration, everyone drew closer to their own demise - some just luckier than others.

Also, the title? Moon - when it was a full moon when Eren asked Mikasa what he was to her, and river - the ocean and how it was always Armin's dream to go there.

Because at the end of the day, these characters wouldn't be who they are or do what they need to do without betting on something to lose.

Just as Armin said, you can't change anything if you aren't ready to abandon something. Is it love? Giving your heart to the cause? Your own freedom?

It changes depending on the perspective of who you're looking at this song from.
