Naruto OC lore dump!

So when the first Kazekage gathered his shinobi together to form Sunagakure, there was a group of natives who resisted, wanting to do things their own way and forming their own tribe, Oashisu. Oashisu trained their shinobi separately from Suna and lived out of their control, which caused lots of conflict between the two because it made the council uneasy that these people were just living in their territory out of their control with no information on their techniques or fighting styles.

Fast forward way past the 1st Kazekage, and now we have the 4th, Rasa. During this time, a woman named Kiroko, who hailed from a powerful bloodline within Oashisu, the Tsukime clan. (Which I’m positive is not actually a name, but we’re gonna go with it because this is what 9 year old me came up with, and it’s got a ring to it.) The Tsukime had incredible techniques inherited through generations, but Kiroko was not a shinobi because it skipped over her or something - A family in Suna had heard about this, and wanted to snag the power for themselves. They wanted their oldest son, Riku, to marry Kiroko and bear offspring to integrate this power into the Sand. Despite Kiroko refusing many times, Riku eventually changed her mind, mainly because Kiroko isn’t very… strong-willed. They had 4 kids, first twins, a girl and a boy, named Akira and Koi, then a boy named Ichigo, and then a boy named Yuki. Yuki is about a year older than Gaara, for perspective. If Gaara is 12, then Yuki is 13, Ichigo is 14 and Akira and Koi are 16.

They are all half-breeds and not really accepted anywhere, especially with Suna being one of the less progressive villages with a hostile Attitude towards Oashisu, and the kids having distinctive Oashisu features, mainly their skin color. This, in addition to Riku being a less-than-great father, was a lot of pressure, especially when Akira and Koi basically had to raise their little brothers because Kiroko was extremely depressed, and Riku was abusive both emotionally and physically. Akira and Koi went into the line of healing jutsu, because they inherited intensive healing from Riku, enhanced by the Tsukime bloodline. Ichigo and Yuki however, were much more connected to the spiritual Tsukime techniques, and could draw power from spirits who made pacts with them and agreed to lend them power, with Yuki’s being particularly strong. The village kids were obviously unsettled, seeing this very feminine-faced boy seemingly speaking to himself? But this ostracism from the others set him on a great path to becoming friends with Gaara, the Kazekage’s son.

a few weeks of this goes by, and they’re best friends! Gaara finally has a friend. But they are now forbidden from going near each other. Why? Because Yuki is a distraction for Gaara from becoming the weapon his village needs him to be. Plus, a half-breed of the tribe Suna had been fighting for years. They were eventually stripped away from each other completely. Akira and Koi decide enough is enough, pack their things, and leave with their siblings. They navigate back to Oashisu, explain the situation and are gladly accepted in, except… Yuki is gone. And didn’t turn up for years after. Until finally, his bloody heap of a body was found right in front of the door of the siblings’ house. They asked him what had happened, and all that he remembered was that they had tried to take his powers, failed, and injured him really horribly in the process. Yuki is now scarred all over for the rest of his life. The organization that took him was never identified. He’s also not exactly… stable. Yuki, Ichigo, and another boy from Oashisu form an all boys team to enter into the Chunin exams, where Yuki and Ichigo both wear specially designed spirit masks. They enter as ninjas from Suna, with Koi as their Jonin.

When the nin are all gathered in the building, Yuki immediately spots Gaara, and BOY IS HE STUNNING. So obviously my boy is now madly in love, and so the tests commence. Their team passes everything and Yuki develops a pointed dislike of Sasuke as well as Naruto… actually just team 7 in general. Which is strange because he’s actually really good friends with Naruto later. But anyway, he chats with Kankuro a bit throughout the 3rd test, both preliminary and real, but never gets to fight before Orochimaru fucks it up (Yuki’s opponent should be thankful for that.) Yuki immediately goes to find where Gaara is going because he knows about Shukaku (obviously, he can talk to spirits.) and gets INCREDIBLY upset at Sasuke for trying to harm Gaara, but just ends up getting in Gaara’s way trying to help him :( eventually he sees that Gaara will be hurt if he doesn’t do something about Shukaku, so he helps Naruto and Gamabunta, summons a shit ton of spirits, including the very large jackal spirit that gives him his main powers, and ends up on the ground with Gaara and Naruto, except very much not conscious. Gaara requests that his siblings find Yuki’s teammates because he can see his Sand symbol on his headband and figures they can go home together.

after much recovery, Gaara recognizes Yuki as his old childhood friend and is very happy to see him. Gaara does not return nor know about Yuki’s feelings at this time. At the end of the series, when the Sand Siblings run a training program for their village, Gaara takes on Matsuri as a student and Yuki immediately does not like this because… y’know. It’s Matsuri…

he doesn’t think it’s a big deal she got taken, as logically he knows they want Gaara and don’t necessarily need to harm Matsuri to get him. But he goes along with the rescue anyway because Gaara cares about her, as much as it pisses him off.

Yuki forms an elite squad (sorta like the Anbu) with her siblings when Gaara is appointed Kazekage, and they happened to be on a mission when he got kidnapped :( Yuki was SO mad at himself for not being there and snuggled the living shit out of the Kazekage the moment he arrived in the scene (once he was back to life, obviously) He and Matsuri got in a little fight over this, to which Yuki responded with clinging MORE to Gaara >:)

Returning from a dinner date, the two women stumble slightly in their strides while their husbands support them on either side. Naomi was eager to enjoy a nice meal with Izumi, who she used to train and travel with when the younger woman was still a child and Naomi was in her early twenties. She may have been too excited to spend time with the girl she viewed as her own daughter, drinking recklessly and a bit more than her high tolerance allowed. The Senju, rarely got drunk enough for it to show, but she didn't think too much about it that night. Having a genuine good time catching up with Izumi, and even getting to know her partner, the Kazekage Gaara, even with the slight tension in the air from including a newly 'reformed' Orochimaru. But by the end of the night, they all had such a good time and even if the boys aren't too fond of one another, they can't deny seeing their wives so happy.

Hello, this is Mergen! I read your response to my comment in Ao3 and really, there is no need to apologize, considering that I am also not giving my answer soon. Since you spend more time on tumblr, I decided to respond here, and then I got sucked into your other passages for weeks. Thank you for giving this idea a chance and if you don't mind, I'll throw some more in for you.

Even if the math doesn't work for Souichi to be Shikako's son, you mentioned that you see the solution to the Konoha civil war in Shikadai becoming Hokage, but he is still young and there is no guarantee that he will become strong or respected enough for the title of Hokage to replace Naruto. He will have the support of half the clans, but this is just politics. So I will again turn to your OC Nara and propose to make Souichi Hokage, he is much older and judging by the description, have the will and motivation and intelligence, some can even get Deja View second coming Shikako.

The second idea was inspired by your fic about Shikako meeting Shinki's mother. I love Gaara and Shinki's relationship in canon, the best thing in Boruto, so I want to reunite this duo and while one is not born yet, we need to confirm Schrödinger's Gaara status. Since Shikako is the only one who has the opportunity to continue the search for Gaara without drawing attention to it, without hope ti find him alive, I wondered what could kill Gaara in the desert. After Gelel, he is the strongest being in Suna. So...

...what if he's not dead?

Back in time, when the war is over, his sister recently married Shikamaru and is about to have a child, everything is going well, Suna is strong and the world is at peace. What if Gaara wanted to sign the summoning contract after seeing how well Naruto and the others did with their summons and how effective they were? Perhaps he lost Shukaku and decided to compensate for his fighting strength by becoming a sage. So he uses reverse summoning and moves to some kind of summoning world. Then there are a dozen developments of events to suit your taste:

1. Gaara failed the test, he was eaten and his body will never be found. Dark enough for a primadonna Au to be real but if you go this route I will cry. Just saying.

2. Time flows differently in the world of Summons and for him 12 days may have passed when for others it is 12 years. He returns to meet a much older and tired Kanuro wearing a Kazekage hat.

3. Shikako finds the domen of the summon, which is located in their world, just very well hidden. Gaara either turned into stone and she will save him in her sage mode, or he meditates for a long time to become a sage and didn’t even notice the passage of time. A punch to the jaw from Shikako is part of the reunion.

This may be an unnecessary plot point, but it will clear the air for Gaara's family and friends.Feel free to use the ideas or not, anyway thanks for your attention!

Hello! I’m glad to see you over on tumblr since, like you said, I really am better at responding on tumblr than I am on ao3—but I do still very much appreciate your ao3 comment as well!

I do love your enthusiasm/affection for my silly Nara OC Souichi, I’m glad that he’s endeared himself to someone besides creator, lol. However he’s not actually THAT much older than Shikadai—or, well, I suppose in the world of shinobi he could be considered much older—I’ve mostly been vague about the timeline, but Souichi is 18 and Shikadai is probably 10ish. He’s due to graduate from the Academy soon. So eight years for a shinobi is a lot, I guess, especially so early on in their careers, but I would still consider them the same generation. Additionally, while he has the motivation and intelligence (and quirkiness) he really is “just an average Nara chuunin.” He made chuunin at 16 years old which isn’t BAD per se, but I think in terms of “Hokage potential” is pretty late in regard to making that international name for himself. Additionally, I know I haven’t explicitly said so, but Shikadai is ALSO motivated and intelligent. The way I see it, Shikadai is more similar to Shikako in her more desperate times, than Souichi is to Shikako in her fun relaxed times, and considering this is the bleak!Primadonna AU, it’s that desperate, battle-oriented Shikako that people would be looking for than an eccentric innovator.

Also, Shikadai doesn’t have the strength/power or the respect/influence NOW, as an Academy student, but that is roughly why if I were to write a “how to resolve the situation in Konoha” it would be a Shikadai-centered fic about how he gains that either through missions or over time or by interacting with other will-be-important figures his age.

As for your second idea—actually it was your initial theory about Souichi that made me bring up Shinki in this series, because the way I’ve written him, in my other DoS Shikaara future fic he is raised by Shikako while Kankurou is his clan head. And I realized, with your initial Souichi theory, that Shinki is probably the closest thing to a child that Shikako and Kankurou could feasibly/safely have in this bleak!Primadonna AU. Especially since Shinki, with his confirmable Magnet Release (as opposed to Shikadai with his probable-but-not-tested Magnet Release) would be the Kazekage heir and thus slightly alleviate some of the stress on Shikadai.

In the ficlet in which Shikako meets Areki (made up name for Shinki’s mother because I don’t know if she has one in canon but I kind of assume not considering what the source manga/anime is) Shinki is definitely already alive. It’s also earlier in the timeline than the first installment/ao3-chapter, so Shikako meets Areki when Shinki is probably about 8 (putting Shikadai at about 6?) and then basically adopts both of them and sort of mentors/helps raise Shinki so that he can safely be introduced to the world as the heir to the Kazekage when the time is right (as opposed to putting that target on the back of an untrained child before he’s ready)

But, that’s not your point: Schrödinger’s Gaara. I super agree with you that after Gelel he is the strongest being in Suna. I also agree that he’s probably not dead so much as like… transported elsewhere (or else-when if we’re getting time travel-y with it) or trapped somehow.

I had briefly though of Gelel Empire related things—like, just because the Dead Wastes are where the “heart” of Gelel’s power was, doesn’t mean they didn’t have other sealing arrays elsewhere through their vast empire. Also, considering sandstorms and since Gaara can control sand, it wouldn’t be to surprising if something was uncovered and Gaara went out to investigate it alone since, after all like you said, who could possibly be a threat to him in the desert where he is strongest? And then mumbledy mumbledy he gets transported somewhere (or some-when) and either can’t find his way back, or doesn’t realize how long it’s actually been, or is stuck. (I did, even more briefly, consider a sci-fi vibe, in the sense that Gaara discovers a Stargate or an old Jedi Temple or something like that but abandoned that since it would be bringing in a crossover and huge genre shift to something that already required a lot of implied background/worldbuilding from readers)

But the summoning realm is very good. And I’ve also previously posited that maybe the summoning realm is not necessarily just for summons. Like, perhaps it should more accurately be called the Spirit Realm, because while most of them are summonable creatures that theoretically look like animals, there could be other non-animal/non-contractable spirits there. I think I also considered writing a fic where the Shinigami and other gods kinda lived in that same alternate plane of existence? However, like you said, the summoning contract card is already so plentiful by itself that I don’t necessarily need to throw in spirits.

1) Oh noooooo, don’t eat Gaara! He’s a good lad TT_TT But that is maybe a little too dark for the bleak!Primadonna AU. Like, I know I have Shikamaru being assassinated, but the idea of Gaara being eaten by summons and never found again is just too dark for some reason? The assassination has political causes and ramifications at least D: Gaara in some boss summon’s stomach is noooooooooooo

2) Time flowing differently is almost… ooh… like, if he were to come back after 12 years and it’s just because time flowed differently. Like, obviously it’s not his fault, but I can see how frustrated Kankurou and Temari and Shikako (and maybe even Naruto?) would be with him if it’s like. THIS ALL COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF YOU HAD JUST COME BACK SOONER. There’s something to be said about those Fair Folklore and similar mythologies about a human going to another world and dancing for a night and then coming back and realizing a century had passed. Like. It’s almost more forgivable if Gaara comes back AFTER Shikadai is an adult (and possibly Hokage) and everything has resolved itself in one way or another because that’s a scale of time that almost seems like—well, there’s nothing he could have done. Versus any time before that would be frustrating. They wouldn’t be mad at him, but god it would be so frustrating.

3) I will always be so fond of Shikaara, so my heart does love the idea that Shikako—who is the only one who can/still believes enough to keep searching for Gaara—does find him trapped somehow (either turned to stone or in a seal or a sand cocoon that was meant to protect him but then backfired, etc etc) and not freeing him with True Love’s Kiss but, like, practical treatment either via Earth chakra or seals or, as you said, a punch to the jaw, lololol.

It’s the mystery of the ages, truly :)

Confession

When I was younger I wrote a lot of fanfiction in journals, specifically Fairy Tail fanfic and I have three that stand out that I think you'll find at least amusing.

The come back from the Irene dimension fucked up and the Aphmau gang was transported to the Fairy Tail Universe and Erza and Katelyn became lesbians for each other. (That was how I phrased it)

A fanfiction where older Gaara from Naruto got transported to the Fairy Tail world and acidentally murdered several people before joining Fairy Tail. I think I almost wrote Gaara X Laxus as my ship (FYI I was writing these two simultaniously after I found out I could write gay ships)

An MCD OC that totally wasn't a rip off of Wendy from Fairy Tail who totally didn't Mary Sue here way into everyones hearts and everyone was in love with her and she was all powerful. She also wasn't a Dragon Slayer but a Wyvern Slayer (cause copyright ig?)

Gotta love middle school fics lol

Every single one of these sounds like a fanfic I would've written in middle school, and that's a compliment. They also sound like ones I would have read.

Especially the crossover episodes I would've eaten those up!!

Anyways now I wanna add my old fairy tail ocs as cameos in my MCD rewriting even if I never want to think about them again

What plot points would change due to the inclusion of your character in canon?

META ASKS: If Your OC Was Canon.

// that is an interesting question, especially since (as an OC RPer) I try not to make Kaito (and other OCs) change the canon story too much Even though I have separate verses/AUs and, the whole point of RPing is to explore canondiv, lmao.

In the verses where Kaito is in the same academy class as Naruto, Gaara kills Kaito's teammates during the chunin exams. So when Kaito tags along to rescue Gaara, he almost assassinates him out of revenge when alone with Gaara after he is rescued. This leads to Gaara appointing Kaito as his Konoha guard, and that extends to a Kage guard exchange program down the road to continue the trust/peace between the villages.

Kaito vs. Haku (reanimated) during the war due to their shared ice release heritage, and talk about Naruto and his influence

But I guess the biggest canondiv with Kaito's insert is in the verse where he is in the same academy class as Team Guy, Kaito (with Tenten) prevents Neji's (canon) death during the war because they were there haha.

AYATSURI OC

Ayatsuri is a puppet master of unknown origin. She lives in Sunagakure, but she wasn’t born there, and she travels frequently. Because of her fascination with puppetry and her fear of death, she is in the process of turning herself into a human puppet. Although she tends to use her abilities mainly for entertainment, anyone who makes the mistake of crossing her knows that she is also deadly with her puppetry. If she’s working with another puppet master, they can attach chakra strings to her and use her abilities as they wish provided that she gives them permission.

HITOMI HARIMOTO OC

Hitomi is a civilian former n nurse who had the bad luck of wandering into Orochimaru’s base in an attempt to greet her new neighbors. Immediately she was imprisoned, but after some time speaking with Orochimaru and the other Sound ninja, she was given her own room and instructed to assist Kabuto since she has medical knowledge. Getting anyone to trust her is going to be no small feat, but she’s fascinated by and cares for all the new people around her.

JUUGO canon

Juugo is an unpredictable person living (previously imprisoned) in the Sound Village. His body produces an enzyme that can make him randomly shift between his normal, kind, gentle personality, and a bloodthirsty, monstrous one. Due to this, he tries to stay away from others, as the change can happen at any moment, especially if something upsets him.

MISAKI NAMIGATA OC

Misaki is a member of the high-status Namigata clan. Originally hailing from Kirigakure, the entire clan immigrated to Konohagakure – whether because of fear after a war, or for reasons unknown. Her clan has an ocular Kekkei Genkai called the Yosokugan, allowing the users to predict the future. Misaki is the heiress to her family, the only child of the main branch clan leaders, and she acts it. Her spoiled surface hides a lonely young lady who is so under the control of her parents that she believes she has vast freedom despite having virtually none.

SAKON canon

Sakon is a member of the Sound Five, an elite group of young shinobi serving under the villainous Orochimaru. He shares a body with his twin, Ukon, thanks to the special bloodline power they share. They can split, but this easily tires Ukon. Sakon is fond of dragging fights out, so if he’s in a battle, expect a good helping of taunts.

UKON canon

Ukon is a member of the Sound Five, an elite group of young shinobi serving under the villainous Orochimaru. He shares a body with his twin, Sakon, thanks to the special bloodline power they share. They can split, but this easily tires Ukon as he’s used to not doing much or being seen. Ukon tries to end fights quickly, and is annoyed by his twin’s showboating.

YASHAMARU canon

Yashamaru is a medical ninja, and he’s also the main caretaker for his young nephew Gaara. He is very kind and gentle, wanting to devote his life to taking care of others. Under orders from the village’s leader (Gaara’s father) his final words to Gaara before dying were that all his love was a lie. In reality, this couldn’t be further from the truth. all he wants is to help people, especially Gaara, who he loves as if the child were his own son.

》 ᴋᴀᴢᴇᴋᴀɢᴇ'ꜱ ꜰᴀᴍɪʟʏ 《

The recent Days were very peaceful for Gaara and his Family.

Raziela - his Wife - was already almost nine Months pregnant with their third biological Child, Shiina, and now that giving Birth could start in any Moment, Gaara did take a lot more Days off from work than usual.

When he wasn't with her, he made sure that someone was with her - either his Guard and mostly Kankuro, his Brother.

She was never alone. Gaara made sure of that.

But on this Day, almost the whole Family was Home together, except Shinki, who was at the Academy this Morning. He was their adopted Son.

When Gaara sat beside his Twins and his pregnant Wife, he took a Moment to simply absorb this Scene.

His Wife - pregnant, happy, loving and healthy.

His Twins - happy, living a happy and carefree Childhood, excited to get a younger Sibling and becoming big Brother and Sister soon.

And Gaara, who never took anything of this for granted.

He worked as the Kazekage to keep the Peace for the Village and it's Villagers. But now, sitting there and watching over his Family, he knew that he was working especially for their Peace.

His Children should never Face a Childhood like he did. His Wife should never experience loss and tragedy again. He would made sure of that.

Here and now they were simply a happy, caring, peaceful Family who was excited to meet the new Family Member soon. The little Princess Shiina.

And Gaara never took anything of that for granted.

I came across your oc x Gaara and was mildly impressed that you didn't immediately ship her with him.

I'm all for self inserting with shipping and oc x canon but one of my biggest pet peeves in fan writing is when a character is immediately all over the oc even though it would never happen in canon u.

People do this especially with Gaara. They write their ocs to be friends with him when they are kids or they have him see something special in the oc or something. I hate is when Gaara develops an immediate crush on them too cause it's just not the way his character is.

I just respect your story more for writing that Gaara hated your oc before they became friends cause it just seems more reasonable to me.

I do notice that's a thing that does happen in fics with OCs, but my general rule is that we're all here to have fun.

Personally, I would never point out to an author that they're writing out of character unless they are genuinely asking for honest criticism on how to improve. Again...we're all here to have fun.

I think most people when writing pairings for Gaara tend to lean on tropes to make it easier to get the ball rolling, so that's where you get variations of "they were friends as kids" or "there was something about her that made him feel things."

No trope is bad when executed well, or even used for the sake of just enjoying writing.

Gaara is an extremely difficult character to write for just on his own without adding romance - something he's really bad at - into the mix. It took me years as a fan fic writer to actually come to terms with the idea that, hey, my characters should actually be irritating, annoying, stupid and unreasonable at times. My OCs - who are extensions of me - should have things they're really, really, really bad at.

I find enjoyment out of exploring flaws through characters and having them grow, while some people self insert themselves into canon material in order to build themselves up, feel better about themselves and to write their ideal world to escape from this one (which can be very unkind). I have written both, read both, and enjoy both.

I support everyone in their fic writing, but I'm gonna be honest here and say that I aggressively support women especially, or those who identify as female, self inserting themselves as rock solid, flawless female characters who have naturally amazing and god bending powers because I feel most media allows male characters to be that way without too much gripe. Yet when a woman is naturally talented, then suddenly it's "unrealistic" because she hasn't "suffered for it", or when she is flawed in the beginning and grows to be powerful, suddenly people can't look passed "but she used to be annoying!" (Looking at you Sakura haters out there.)

I am, by quite a huge margin, a lot more accepting of fan works having unrealistic characters than I am from professional media sources, but because people should be able to explore themselves through their interests and to have fun.

They used to use the term Mary Sue for these types of characters, I don't know if they still do because of how misogynistic it is, but honestly I don't have problems with Mary Sues.

A writer didn't write something for me. They wrote it for themselves, and again, unless they're asking for honest criticism, I'm not gonna say anything. Stopping reading something you don't like is completely free, but someone saying something nasty to a fic writer may cost them their happiness and their hobby.

I think it's fine to discuss these things on a neutral blog like mine, but I ask that you please, please PLEASE not post hate on someone's fic.

...and that's another year of writing done!

Happy New Year's, everyone! Can't believe we've gone through yet another year of a pandemic (despite what government's around the world tell us about it being over).

This year was a strange one. The later half of the year feels like such a haze for me, days bleeding together, much like they did in 2020. Why? Because, after two years of being as safe as possible, I caught Covid. And not only did I catch Covid in early May, I was one of the lucky ones to get Long Haul Covid, and with that I have spent the last half of 2022 on a medical leave.

It's been a difficult year for me. There are very few things about 2022 that went according to plan--between catching Covid and simply not having the money, my plans to move to Ireland at the end of this summer didn't happen, and while the plan is to postpone my move, to when is still to be decided. I have also let my sewing and portfolio building fall to the wayside, largely--again--because of my health.

However, there are some things to be happy about and this post is my chance to look back and celebrate my writing victories.

sagemoderocklee's 2022 Fic Wrap

Absolution: Part IV (WiP)

While the goal had been to end the year with another update, tragically it was not in the cards. My health being what it is and my focus being on completing other projects, and Absolution being the huge piece it is, I felt it made more sense not to try pushing out Part V. However, I am very happy I was able to start the year with an Absolution update as this fic is very much one of my faves. The fourth part of this fic was a bit of a challenge to write, especially in the middle, but I finally hit on the beats I really needed. A big complication with Absolution was that the remaining 6 chapters, which I had fully planned and plotted, needed tweaking... which is to say Absolution needed to be longer. So I had to move all the plotting I had from Part IV on and rebuild and entirely rewrite each chapter/scene-by-scene breakdown. I'm pretty solid at the moment with Parts V through VIII in terms of plotting, and now I think I can safely say this fic will be a total of 13 chapters (the last one being an epilogue), but that could change since I still have to finish all the restructuring. I know all the key beats and the end goal, but sorting out the getting from one point to the next is really the big issue. However, all that being said, I do want to start the new year with Absolution, so that will be my top priority for January!

Pomegranate Sun: Ch1 (WiP) Co-authoring with @ghoste-catte

The first chapter of this fic I started writing a couple years ago, sometime after I got the prologue from @ghoste-catte. And then, of course, I stopped and didn't touch it again for... ages. But with the Naruto-Run last December and @ghoste-catte wanting to have a special fic for the big milestone of 100 GaaLee fics, it was time to work on this baby again. It is absolutely no surprise that when I get to worldbuild I'm in my comfort zone, so even though it took a while, once I got into working on this (while sick with covid, no less) I was happy. And this is going to be such a fresh piece of worldbuilding since we're bringing in OCs from the far west of Wind Country!

Plus One (COMPLETE)

So, I signed up for a bingo challenge and ended up writing a slightly spicy one-shot. Certainly not the spiciest thing in the world, but I very much enjoy writing flirty!Gaara. I have a LOT of feelings about the way fandom and even the canon blank period treats him surrounding sex/sexuality, and it's really informed a lot of how I view and approach Gaara as a gay male character. This wasn't like a huge piece (though I have an even sexier sequel planned), but it was so much fun.

It Eats Your Heart: Ch2 (WiP)

Chapter 2 of IEYH took me about a year to write. I was struggling. It gave me writer's block. It made me wanna throw my computer. My roommate helped me workshop it a bit. And it still took me forever to finish it. Then finally--FINALLY--I hit on what was missing. This chapter was a fucking bitch, but gotdamn was it worth it. I'm so happy with how this turned out and I'm so looking forward to finishing this fic in the new year.

Pearl-Filled Lungs: II, III, IV, Epilogue (COMPLETE)

My beloved enemy. This fic sat for three years, untouched and miserable. I'd started chapter two... last year? The year before? I don't remember, and it languished. I think it was just the first scene--maybe just part of the first scene. But god it was a struggle. I signed up for the WiP BB last year, but dropped. Signed up again this year and... committed. Largely because of the artist who, though unable to complete art for this fic, was such a huge inspiration. The WIPs they sent me... I wish I could share them because they were stunning. When they were unable to continue, I really thought I'd give up, but once again @ghoste-catte inspired me to continue, thanks to their generous offer to make banners for my fic--and the banners are truly such a work of art! And someone... I got through this fic. I think my original vision comes through, despite how much I bitched and moaned during the process. I wanted to write a fairy tale, and I did. And honestly, I am happy with P-FL. It's not my most popular fic, by any means, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

My Home is Your Home: Ch1 (WiP)

And here we have a fic that was meant to be a one-shot. I was gonna try and get this done in under 10.5k for an event challenge, but then I talked with my roommate and... they looked at me like 'bitch who the fuck do you think you are' and you know what, they were right. I was foolin myself. This fic wasn't a one-shot. I'd come up with an idea for something much bigger than a one-shot, and I'm glad I listened to them. So instead of an event challenge, I reworked everything and turned this into a fic for the @puregaalee Horror Fest, and I am sooooo excited that I did. Paranormal Romance isn't a genre I've dabbled in, and I'm stoked to try weaving the horror genre with RomCom elements. This fic not only ended up being a much bigger piece than I'd intended, but it also has a planned sequel! Because I wouldn't be me if I didn't add more WiPs to my docket than I subtract.

Blood on the Branches: Ch1 (WiP)

Talk about a fic that was pulled out of my ass at THEE last minute. For Horror Fest, I was struggling to come up with an idea. I knew what prompts I was vibin with, but damn I couldn't think of a single thing. And then one night, laying in bed I came up with an idea.... An entirely different idea from this because with only days left to finish, I scrapped everything I had (and by scrapped, I mean moved to a different document) and came up with something completely new! And so instead of straight horror, I leaned into what I'm good at and now I have a horror/adventure story! While the original concept for this fic is good, I am way more excited about this! Once again, taking my worldbuilding to new heights as we leave Suna and head to the south of Wind! I don't know exactly when I'll be able to get the next chapter out, and I really need to sit down and plot this in full, but I am so excited to write this story!

The Corn Maze House (COMPLETE)

Well, it was a bit of a slog towards the mid-point, but I got through it. I honestly worried I wouldn't, but in the end I'm really glad I didn't give up or give in to feeling negatively about the writing process for this piece. I'm not fully happy with it, but I am happy it's done. The premise for this fic, in my entirely unbiased opinion, is very good, even if I'm still not sure of the execution. I may end up going back over this fic in the future, but regardless I'm happy to have a completed horror fic under my belt, and also to not be adding another WiP to my roster. Definitely very light on the GaaLee, despite being an established relationship, but that was kind of how it had to be, so I'm sure this won't be like a crazy popular fic, necessarily. But I still think this was good practice with the horror genre.

Return to Sender: Ch1-11 (COMPLETE)

Talk about a fic I never expected. RtS was meant to be a simple, cute lil RomCom. A dash of miscommunication, a whole lot of comedy of errors, and just a smidge of drama... The ask prompt that started this definitely did not make any indication that I needed to write a 90k+ drama about homophobia in the shinobi world or about the mistakes you make when you're terrified of losing someone important to you. But I simply am the person I am, and I am the writer I am. This was the direction that felt right, and honestly, I'm so glad because I am so happy with how this story turned out and the reception this fic has received is truly astronomical. I dove into it following completing chapter 1 of PomSun and in between working on P-FL because P-FL was the struggle it was. RtS gave me a much needed break and the first three and a half chapters were such a breath of fresh air. When I say those first three chapters were a breeze to write, I mean I think it took me less than a week to write them. This was (sort of) the first time in over a decade I've had a fully completed multi-chapter fic that I can post on a schedule, and GOD it felt so good to just post chapters weekly. RtS Sundays were the highlight of my week, and even though towards the end there were a lot of complications, it was truly such a joy and has made me want to work harder to get fics done before posting. Also! Not only did I have a ball writing this fic, but I also had a lot of fun making the images that I included in it and the soundtrack to go with it. While some of the images are... less exciting than others, this fic just felt like the perfect opportunity to do some mixed media stuff, and I do really enjoy making soundtracks for fics. I have to say, though I love so many of my fics, RtS will now have a very special place in my heart. The reception, surpassing 1million with it, and just the way it all fell into place... I am truly so filled with joy by how this fic went.

2022 Resolutions

The difference between this year's writing and last year's is kinda wild ngl. All that time on medical leave and not sewing really gave me a lot of time to write, (though I do wish I'd been healthy enough to sew more). Looking back at my writing resolutions from the start of the year to now, I can definitely say I'm proud of what I've accomplished, even if it seems like I didn't reach that many resolutions. The two biggest resolutions (1million words and finishing P-FL) were reached, and honestly hitting those two goals was the greatest accomplishment of the year.

So, while most of what I'd had planned for this year was updating fics from last year's Naruto-Run to 1K which didn't happen, I still think this year was a success!

Reach 1million words--168,358 words to go!✅So, the math I did at the end of last year for how many words I needed was actually wrong. I needed closer to 178k, but despite this minor math mishap, I not only reached 1 million words, I surpassed it! I have been trying to hit this overall word count for the past three or so years, and I am utterly shocked, amazed, and proud of myself for making it happen this year! Admittedly, I think this goal was reached because I ended up getting long covid and have spent June through the end of the year out of work and home. Still, this is by no means a small feat, especially given the number of words I needed to reach this year while also being disabled by covid. Long haul is no joke and the brain fog--ohhhh lemme tell you! that shit got me so fucked up, so managing to power through and find joy in writing in spite of that struggle was really important. Writing was one of the few real joys I had in my days these past months, and I could not be more thrilled to finally say I've surpassed 1 million words. Truly, I owe most of that to RtS, the most unexpected fic of 2022.

Write the sequel to Flyweight Love❌Not Reached. Part of me was sure I'd get this done at the end of the year, following Horror Fest, but RtS became priority #1 instead, so HB3 will be on the docket for next year!

Finish IEYH❌Not Reached. While I didn't reach this goal, I did manage to update this fic, finally. Chapter two was a difficult journey and actually caused a lot of writer's block for me between the end of last year-early this year, so while I didn't finish this fic I did still make progress and for that I am very happy. My hope is to accomplish this goal in the new year now!

Finish Pearl-Filled Lungs✅REACHED! This is a pretty big one because it's been hanging over me for... long time. Three years, in fact. But I signed up for the WiP Big Bang and managed to actually get all four chapters written, edited, and published! It always feels like such a relief to be able to cross something completely off my list, but especially something that's been weighing on me the way P-FL was. In many ways, I wasn't happy with the journey, but I am happy with the end of it. I think P-FL is a lot better than I give it credit for, so I am really proud of it and proud that I got this finished.

Finish The Passing of Things❌Not Reached. I was actually really hoping to get this done, so I'm going to make this a goal for next year!

Update Absolution (Ch 4-6)✅❌❌Partially fulfilled. While I did not get three updates in for Absolution, I still got one so that's a partial win for me!

Update TAoL (Ch12)❌Not Reached. Sadly, this update was not in the cards for me this year, which is truly a tragedy for me because it's been two years since the last time I updated. But unfortunately, this next chapter has a lot of issues that need fixing, so getting through has not been easy. However, it is a top priority in the new year!

Update TBotDatP aka the Ballad❌Not Reached. Another fic I was hoping to update, but alas, not this year. But the first chapter is very much underway, so with any luck, I'll be getting a Ballad update out in short order!

Update WNNBYT aka the Hanahaki fic❌Not Reached. While this is a fic I'm excited to work on, it has lost priority in favor of other fics. Maybe next year, but I don't want to make it a resolution since I have fics I'd rather focus on over this.

Update Pomegranate Sun (Ch1)✅ Reached! Amazingly, I was able to get chapter one of this fic out, though it did take a while. However, I'm very proud of how that first chapter turned out and excited to continue this fic with @ghoste-catte in the new year!

Update 13S❌Not Reached. I did get a good chunk of the next update for this worked on, but tragically the amount of worldbuilding needed for this chapter put a wrench in my plans to move forward. However, the worldbuilding has been done in large part, so I am looking forward to getting this fic updated next year!

Edit Alliance❌Not reached. In general, Allied Nations has not been on my mind or at the top of my list. I think, more than likely it won't be until I get TAoL finished, as that's a similarly huge project, even as a stand alone story.

Update Honor Bound❌Not reached. Similar to the above. And while I do have the first three chapters written, I don't want to dive into posting any more chapters of this fic until I've edited Alliance and made the changes to it I know are needed.

With 2022 at an end and a lot more writing done than I expected, I'm hoping to carry that energy into 2023, regardless of other things. I do hope to move to Ireland and get back into sewing regularly, but as my health has changed much of my life, I'm also anticipating more time at home as I shift into working from home. So with that, I hope I also find more time and energy to focus on writing.

This is a lot, and I do not expect to get all of this done, but the goal is to get as much of it done as I can. I have a lot of motivation, so here's to a successful writing year in 2023!

What do they each have to lose?

Masa really values her loved ones, whenever she does something morally questionable its always to protect someone she holds dear. Orochimaru and Kabuto often manipulate her, knowing this, but putting Daiki and Kimimaro (until his death) in unfavorable situations.

After Daiki's death she's extremely afraid of losing Kurono and joins the Akatsuki partially to be near her (when Mitsu is born she becomes quite a bit more protective). Also, she may have willingly chose to leave Gaara to join Akatsuki (knowing that he would try to kill her if she did) but she still doesn't want anything to happen to him. Even when she fights against him, she's trying to run away not confront him head on because she's afraid to lose him.

What are they attracted to?

She likes to act like she's only attracted to looks but the more you get to know about her the more obvious it is that that's not the case. What she's very much attracted to, platonically and romantically, are eyes and smiles. She feels that someone's eyes can really tell you a lot about a person and that someone's ability to smile at you is a precious gift that should be savored. Particularly, people who give rare smiles (like Gaara) she likes the most.

How’s their social life?

Her social life is pretty active after the war. Due to her and Kurono's contributions some of the Konohagakure villagers come to trust her (overtime) and some like Lee and Naruto she begins to consider to be her close friends, and she already had a pretty good relationship with Sasuke due to them both training under Orochimaru. She's also loves to spend time with Gaara and his siblings. Her and Kankuro often pull pranks on their favorite redheads together.

One of her favorite people outside of Konohagakure and Sunagakure is Killer Bee. One day she hopes to befriend him and she wants to try rapping with him. She's been to two of his concerts. She really likes everything about him.

What are their hobbies?

Thanks to Daiki she has a soft spot in her heart for music, she often hums when she's thinking really hard as well as when she's trying to comfort herself. After the war she finds that her love of music accompanies a love of dancing. As often as she can she'll try and get her loved ones, speficially Gaara, Kurono, Mitsu, Kankuro, and Temari, to dance with her.

She also has a bad habit of excess spending. Impulse buying is a big problem hobby for her; she especially will buy something if she thinks its cute. She has a room full of shelves of cute little knick knacks and that's after Gaara has made her get rid of a majority of them.

And whether she's on a mission or relaxing at home she loves to read. Some of her favorite books are the Icha Icha series, which she bought on accident because she saw the word Tactics and thought they were books about strategy. After finishing the series she keeps reading books like them but she finds that they can't fill the void Icha Icha has left.

Are they an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?

She's more of an ambivert. At first she may seem rather quiet but that's just because she doesn't really pay much attention to anyone when she's first meeting them, but if she sees something about you she likes she won't be afraid to make the approach and initiate friendship. She does have rbf though so not many people approach her first and sometimes others don't like it when she approaches.

Are they right brained, left brained, or balanced?

Masa finds that she's pretty right brained after the war. She initially thought she would be left brained because of her thirst for knowledge and because she's right side dominant but that was not the case. She's rather creative when she puts her mind to it.

What are their most prevalent strengths and weaknesses?

Her biggest weakness is her fear, it constantly causes her to overreact and panic and when it comes to high intensity situations her emotionless mask cracks and she can't quite think before she acts. God forbid if anyone hurts her post-war Suna family, she might destroy the world in that case.

Her biggest strength is her genjutsu. Those who have lived to see it in action or lived despite experiencing it often compare it to Shisui's abilities with genjutsu, some say its better than his. It only gets stronger after she awakens her mangekyo and then again with her eternal mangekyo.

What are their goals and dreams?

Before Daiki's death her dream was to die in peace and obscurity with him by her side, after his death however it was partially to hurt Konoha as they had hurt her and protect Kurono, but Kurono obviously took more precedence as she chose Kuro over her revenge when push came to shove. After the war she often dreams of marrying the young Kazekage but refuses to act on it until the Sixth Hokage convinces her that she's allowed to be happy too.

What are their fears and insecurities?

She's afraid of the peace after the war all being snatched away, she's scared that one day Gaara will realize she's too terrible of a person to be worth his time and affection. She's scared she won't be able to protect those closest to her just like she was unable to protect Daiki and Kimimaro and she's afraid of eating animal intestines, they freak her out. Masa bares a lot of guilt.

She will never eat sausage.

What would they die for?

Of course, she would die for any members of her favorite Kazekage clan, after the war she feels so guilty for the lives she's taken that she'd probably give her life for anyone, much to Gaara's displeasure.

Hi everybody!

So I've been rather quiet the last while and it's because I have been building up a new fandom project. I've been pulled back into the lovely hobby that is RP and am bringing my years of experience on forums, dms and livejournal to running a Naruto roleplaying server on Discord. So if you have Discord and like Naruto and also roleplay, please consider...

Hidden In The Fanon ~ A Naruto Roleplaying Group with a Rotating AU Setting

The idea of this RP is just to reset into a new AU every once in a while and explore the many versions of our characters meeting and bonding anew in every universe.

Every few months we will vote from a few options suggested by players and/or curated by lead mod Zippy and spend a while playing around in a particular AU setting. The intended minimum 'AU length' will be at least 4 weeks and we will keep the AU open long as people vote to stay with it, depending on interest and what we want to accomplish plot-wise.

Mods will try to set up an overarching mini plot or an event of some kind being built up to/going on during each AU (like a holiday or a school dance) and other plots planned by players can take place intersecting with or around this 'mod plot' as players like.

We also have an often-used Holodeck category where we post plot ideas and scene prompts and people can start a thread to play out any kind of one-shot scene or story their heart desires. And of course we have a robust set of OOC channels for all your shenanigan and planning needs.

Most of our players have full time work/school so our game is not intended to be played super swiftly - you don't need to be online or able to write/play every single day. We want players to take their time, have fun, and focus on writing the things they want to write and having quality interactions with other players.

We aren't an adult-content focused server, but we do allow adult topics and roleplay so we ask that all applying members be 18+.

Whether you have never done writing roleplay before like some of our players, or are a veteran from the LJ wars on a pandemic-spurred nostalgia trip like myself, we would love to have you join us and see what we are all about.

We are currently running a short Halloween themed Summer Camp with Murderer AU until Oct 31st, and we will shortly be voting on our next, longer, AU, so this seems like an ideal time to add new players!

Applications won't have a deadline, but we will only be adding **four** new players at most at this time, so that we don't end up with more new people than we can properly give our attention, help, and time to as they settle into the game and make friends. :)
