Culture and Customs of the Hoa Ethnic Group
Food: The main staple food is rice, but meals often include dishes like fried noodles and hu tieu. In ordinary families, breakfast consists of plain rice porridge with salted duck eggs, while more affluent families have hu tieu, buns, and xiu mai.
Beverages: Besides serving as a refreshment, the beverages of the Hoa people also have medicinal benefits for nourishing the internal organs.
Clothing: Women wear high-collared blouses with buttons on one side and long slits, or a long "cheongsam" dress with slits at the thighs. The colors are mainly pink or red, along with darker shades. Men wear black or dark blue shirts with side buttons, a standing collar, and slits, or a four-part shirt with a front slit, standing collar, and pockets.
Jewelry: Women like to wear jewelry, especially bracelets (made of copper, gold, stone, jade, etc.), earrings, and necklaces. Men often wear gold teeth as a form of adornment.
Housing: Those engaged in farming typically live in villages at the foot of mountains, in fields, along the coast, near water sources, and with convenient transportation. Houses are clustered together according to family lines. In urban areas, they live in concentrated neighborhoods. Houses generally come in three types: three-room two-wing houses, "門" shaped houses, and "口" shaped houses, usually built with stone, unbaked bricks, or earthen walls, with tile or bamboo thatched roofs.
Social Relations: The family structure is patriarchal. Community relationships remain strong despite the emergence of wealth disparities. In each village, the position of the clan leader of the largest family is emphasized and plays a significant role in resolving village relationships. The Ngai people distinguish family lines through a system of middle names. The wife's family, especially the uncle (khao), has an important role in family relations, although the Ngai lineage remains patrilineal.
Worship: Prominent in folk beliefs is ancestor worship, family and clan worship, and worship of protective deities (kitchen gods, earth gods, wealth gods, etc.) and some saints and bodhisattvas (Guan Gong, Tianhou, Bon Buddha, Nanhai Guanyin). Hoa temples are often associated with community halls and schools, serving as places for community cultural activities and festivals.
Writing: Chinese characters are taught and learned in public schools.
Performing Arts: Traditional cultural activities of the Hoa people include singing, dancing, and comedy with various musical instruments like flutes, pipes, and different types of lutes (pipa, erhu, yueqin), and cymbals. "Shange" (mountain songs) is a popular form of entertainment, especially among the youth. Traditional folk music organizations called "music societies" have existed for a long time.

UKHSA Urges Vaccination: Winter Health Shield
Tumblr media
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is amplifying its call for eligible individuals from ethnic minority groups to prioritize their health by booking both flu and COVID-19 vaccines. This urgent appeal, specifically directed at people from Pakistani and black Caribbean ethnic backgrounds and those residing in more deprived areas, aims to shield them and their families from the heightened risks of these infections during the winter months.   Inequality Insight: Emergency Hospital Admissions Recent data from UKHSA's report on emergency hospital admission rates for influenza and COVID-19 in England reveals alarming disparities. Emergency hospital admission rates for both illnesses were significantly higher among individuals living in the most deprived areas compared to those in the least deprived areas. Persistent differences in admission rates among ethnic groups were also observed.   Key Findings from the Report: - Influenza admission rates for the Pakistani ethnic group were 2.7 times higher than the white ethnic group. - Black, African, Caribbean, or black British ethnic groups had influenza admission rates 1.6 times higher than the white ethnic group. - Emergency hospital admission rates for both influenza and COVID-19 were 2.6 and 2.1 times higher, respectively, for individuals in more deprived areas.   Analysis and Future Investigations: While the report highlights these inequalities, it doesn't delve into the underlying factors driving these differences. The complex landscape of health inequalities involves multiple overlapping factors, including existing social and economic disparities, healthcare intervention coverage, and pre-existing health conditions. This analysis lays the foundation for future investigations, emphasizing the need for a closer examination of underlying reasons and the delivery of interventions.   Call to Action: Improving Vaccine Coverage The findings underscore the urgent need to enhance vaccine coverage across ethnic groups and different levels of deprivation. Dr. Mary Ramsay, Director of Immunisation at UKHSA, emphasizes the importance of taking both flu and COVID-19 vaccines for optimal protection against these viruses during winter.   Voices Supporting Vaccination: - Dr. Mary Ramsay: Encourages eligible individuals, especially those from ethnic minority backgrounds, to get vaccinated against these preventable diseases. - Dr. Shona Arora: Acknowledges observed disparities and urges eligible individuals to book flu and COVID-19 vaccinations promptly. - Dr. Salman Waqar: Emphasizes the significance of vaccination from a religious perspective and encourages eligible individuals not to delay getting vaccinated for free.   Closing the Gap: Vaccine Uptake Data Previously published UKHSA vaccine uptake data reveals disparities in influenza and COVID-19 vaccine coverage. Among individuals aged 65 years and over, there were significant differences between ethnic groups, with lower vaccine coverage in certain communities.   Easy Booking Process: Protect Yourself Today! Both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines can be booked conveniently through the NHS website, NHS app, or by calling 119. The vaccines can be given simultaneously for enhanced protection. With robust safety profiles and proven advantages, there's no reason to delay. Book your vaccination appointment now and ensure a healthier winter for you and your community.   Sources: THX News & UK Health Security Agency. Read the full article

what is romanipen? is it defined universally, or is it different for every subgroup? who is considered to have romanipen, and can non-romani people have it?
romanipen is the connection that one has to romani community
its generally defined the same across subgroups, but different groups may have different attitudes about those without romanipen, especially didicoy. some groups may welcome a didicoy as roma, some will not and consider that didicoy a gadjo
people born within a romani community who is raised by roma, can speak romani chib, follows romani traditions, etc. are considered as having romanipen and yes, gadje adopted by or raised by roma can have romanipen and be considered as romani
a gadji marrying in to her romani husbands family can also be claimed by his family and considered romani (i dont know if its the same for gadjo/romni relationships especially for more traditional families)
florida.florian on tiktok and youtube (he's kalderaš from romania) talks on what makes someone romani in his shorts, including these that i basically summarized

Theres a movie or netflix show coming out bout cleopatra where some black(?) girl play her & now ppl coming out the woodwork left n right acting like evil blacks is taking away their heritage (& the heritage in q is one ancient queen). like omg stfuu.. cleopatra is a greek name. the ptolemys admit in their records they came from the greeks, of all of them only cleopatra spoke the ancient egyptian language. this perhaps indicates cleopatra had a mother of the ancient egyptian variety & outside the ptolemic family? facts is. the earliest ancient egyptians were “Black” in the sense of being dark skinned native africans. most people in ancient times were darker complexioned.. egypt is not only very close to the mediterranean & west asia, but is also very close to what is now deemed the sudan. theres actually more pyramids in sudan then there are in egypt. the nilotic super ethnicgroup w/ hundreds of ethnicities within r people native to the entire nile river valley… including egypt. if ur willing to acknowledge egypt is a mixed society u must also accept the presence of dark skinned africans native to the region (as well as light skinned people). but alas, the popular conception of “mixed societies” is built off the premise of eliminating dark skinned people, and the egyptian state since the 70s has tried to expel the darker skinned peoples native to the country. normal people who acknowledge the roots of ancient egypt r not tryna ‘take away modern egypt from nobody’ or claim some ancient dynasty that dont exist no more. multiple groups lived in ancient egypt just as they do in the modern egypt. but the cultural fixation on certain parts of the 1000+ yrs of the ancient egyptian civilization/s is motivated in part bc medieval arab conquerors & modern british colonialists could not believe the marvels infront of them were made & forged by africans..the obsession began w them, not black people.. the premise of this cleopatra movie reads of agitation of antiblack sentiment in nb ppl for clicks. cuz also… hollywood / netflix specifically is also an entertainment apparatus & under no obligation to educate much less tell the truth. agitation, antagonizing& polarization = more clicks, more views, more money. simply put: ancient egypt has been a contentious topic bc so many ppl r obsessed w/ the giant monuments & cant believe africans made them. there r plenty of african civilizations in the massive book of human history that r underdiscussed cuz they didnt make big stone statues n wont make hollywood or producers or wdf quick money. native black north africans + immigrants r being kicked out of north african countries for being black. and these are the real tragedies of life

History and Geography of the Hoa Ethnic Group
Ethnic minorities often reside in remote areas or high mountains, sustaining themselves through hunting or slash-and-burn agriculture. Introducing tourism to these communities can boost their income, mitigate environmental damage, and provide a refreshing climate for visitors. Let's join hands to protect our environment and make our Earth greener, cleaner, and more beautiful.
The Hoa people belong to the Sino-Tibetan language group and are an ethnic community that plays an important role in various economic, cultural, and social sectors in southern Vietnam.
Historical Origins: The Hoa people migrated to Vietnam at different times starting from the 16th century, and later during the end of the Ming dynasty and the beginning of the Qing dynasty, continuing until the first half of the 20th century. Other names: Khach, Han, Tau.
Geographical Distribution: The Hoa people migrated to both northern and southern Vietnam from various localities, through different routes, and at different times, spanning from the period of Northern domination until 1954. The establishment of the 17th parallel (in 1954), which divided Vietnam into two regions with different political regimes, saw around 40,000-45,000 Hoa people migrate from northern to southern Vietnam. Their primary living areas are Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Soc Trang.
Population and Language:
Population: According to the survey of 53 ethnic minorities on April 1, 2019, the total population is 749,466 people, with 389,651 males and 359,815 females. The number of households is 241,822. The rural population accounts for 30.3%.
Language: The language belongs to the Han language group (Sino-Tibetan language family).

2012 In Diqing Dukezong Ancient town, it looks like Naxi women from clothing. Many minorities living in peace there, mainly Tibetans, as well as Naxi (纳西族), Yi(彝族), Bai(白族), Hui(回族), Han (汉族) and other ethnic groups. In our mind, there are no race concept but ethnic groups (Pronouncing ‘Minzu’ 民族) as we are educated from childhood that ‘China has 56 ethnic groups are brothers and sisters in a family’. In reality, ethnic minorities and some remote areas do have many government support, such as Tibet or some poor areas, in addition to having the same compulsory education, the government also supports their meals at school. When I was in Guangzhou for university, a few Tibetan classmates were given special care, as well as subsidies for returning air tickets. The government expect them to develop their hometown after graduation, but some students said that they did not want to but live in Guangzhou in the future. #dukezong #dukezongoldtown #dukezongancienttown #dukezongcity #dukezongoldvillage #dukezongancientcity #minority #minorities #naxi#ethnicgroup #ethnicgroups #likeforlikes #culture#portraitphotography #portrait#life #traveldeepchina (在 独克宗古城) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9wt_MfhD-I/?igshid=ib37vrl6endn
