Eva’s childhood, although a sad one, was filled with enough love and light to last a lifetime. Her parents were the beacons of morality and compassion. They were two struggling immigrants who settled to a frugal life in California. The first few years of her life were filled with struggle, but her parents ensured that she never went without something that she needed – even if it meant that they went hungry. As the years went on, her father found a stable job and, slowly, things started feeling normal for Eva. Or, as normal as life could feel for the daughter of two undocumented immigrants. Eva learned how to speak English in school, started making friends, and tried to live a life that her parents would be proud of.

It wasn’t until Eva was eighteen that her life would be changed in a permanent, painful way. Only days after graduating high school, she received a phone call from her mother. She was in hysterics, explaining that her father had been detained and would likely be deported. Eva’s entire life fell apart that day. Her father took care of the finances and, without him, Eva and her mother would have a difficult time making ends meet. The financial burden of her father’s deportation was at the back of Eva’s mind. It seemed insignificant when her heart was broken in two. Her father would be in another country, away from her and her mother. He’d go back to a lonely life, with no immediate family at his side. It was devastating, and Eva put her life on hold to get a job and help her mother. Eva worked two different retail jobs to put food on the table. Her mother had fallen into a deep depression without her father, desperately longing to be at his side. Her parents had been together since they were teenagers, and it broke her heart to know that they were thousands of miles away from each other.

As much as it hurt Eva, she was an adult now. Her parents had taught her well – she could handle life on her own. For the better part of a year, Eva saved up enough money to send her mother back to Cuba, to be with her father. It took a hell of a lot of convincing, but Eva simply couldn’t handle her father being all alone. She promised them that she’d make something of herself – that their sacrifices had not been for nothing. Not long after Eva said goodbye to her mom, she enrolled in college full time and focused on a political science degree, with every intention of pursuing law school. After what had happened with her father, she figured she could help others, too, by becoming a deportation defense attorney. But law school was expensive, and shortly after graduating with her degree, she was beyond exhausted from working two jobs and graduating with honors. She put that on hold and instead began working on political campaigns in California that aligned with her own personal beliefs.

Attending political events became the norm for Eva, and she often wondered about a career in politics, too. She had all of the ambition in the world, and right when she felt like branching out and doing more, she met the Aleman brothers. Both Gabriel and Joaquín were sponsoring a charity event in Los Angeles and of course, Eva was there -- front and center. She didn’t know much about them, but she did know that she needed their help. With money like that, she could do anything she wanted -- she could help families stay together. She set up meetings with both brothers, sharing her story, and it didn’t take much to charm them. 

Over the years, Eva worked with both brothers, eventually becoming the the mind behind of most of their charity events. When they mentioned a move to Chicago, Eva offered to go with them -- making sure her voice was heard in all parts of the country was very important to her. Having worked with the Aleman brothers for the last few years, Eva’s heard the rumors -- about what the brothers really do behind closed doors. Even now, to this day, she still isn’t sure that she has the heart for that. Eva still clings to her morality in any way that she can, but she can’t seem to stay away from the brothers. Recently, after her move to Chicago, Eva was anonymously gifted with more than enough funds so that she could start her own non-profit organization to advocate for families of deportees. Not only that, but her parents somehow came into a decent amount of money. The kind of money that allowed them to retire and live comfortably in a new home. While the Aleman brothers haven’t claimed responsibility for either gift, Eva knows better. The gratitude that she feels towards the brothers is unparalleled. No matter how bad things get, she can’t walk away. Not after their generosity.

Though Eva wished she could stay and perish along with the rivers and oceans of her blue planet, in a moment of clarity she applied for Minerva Project. She didn’t think she’d get accepted.

Eva comes from a family of fishermen, but following that profession was never her dream in life. Since she was a young child she took a liking for hanging out with all sorts of people, hearing their stories; in a way, living vicariously through them. Her parents worried she would get in trouble, so they sent her to live with her aunt in the United States.

Things didn’t change much when she arrived to America. But she was aware of the effort her parents put in her education and upbringing, so she was a decent student, a good person, and a great dancer.

Discouraged from pursuing a dancing career (you’ll starve, and then who will send money back home?) she studied psychology, dropped out, then became a full-time tattoo artist, since she had learned how to use a tattoo gun when she was sixteen. Her aunt doesn’t like it. But who cares? Not Eva. She’s a grown woman, and she can do whatever she wants.

Sometimes mannerless and tactless, Eva is a woman who prefers when no one has expectations of her. She’s playful and she’s amiable when she wants to, but she can also be aloof and terribly vindictive. She is unpredictable and frankly, a little bizarre, but she has no desire of changing her way of being anytime soon.

Eva is an insomniac, so she likes to wander late at night while drinking infusions or munching on snacks. She is covered in tattoos, most made by herself. She is also quite superstitious.
