Going Angst
Day Three: Family
Walker didn’t go far from his post at the prison unless it was for patrols or if a prisoner escaped. He had a very private corner tucked away within the walls which served as his main lair where no other ghost could go.
So any other ghost stood clear when he did venture further out into the Ghost Zone. He liked that they kept their distance. They knew the consequences if they didn’t. He was the only one trying to keep any sense of order down here, and he worked hard to keep it that way.
There were only two occurrences where a ghost didn’t give him respect: the mangy excuse for a werewolf and the Phantom.
The werewolf he could care less for. The ghost was powerful, yes, but Walker knew more about his time in the living realm than the mutt would ever know, and that was all he needed to give him an upper edge when dealing with the furry convict.
The Phantom was another story.
He was a freak even by ghost standards. A spirit boundless from the planes of life and death who moved between them freely thanks to the wrenched machine his family had built within a place called Amity Park.
The teen was impulsive, rash, and even led a prison escape that left Walker and his squadrons beaten up and reinforcing the security measures.
However due to being half ghost, the Phantom remained the sole convict that the warden knew he couldn’t lock up permanently.
But something was odd during the time he talked to the teen.
Walker heard an unusual song in his ears. One he hadn’t heard since his time in the living world. A song from his mother, supposedly handed down from members of her side of the family tree.
That very song kept repeating while he fought the Phantom, and only stopped after he was long gone. 
But why?
Tired of asking himself questions, Walker decided to venture to the Library of Alexandria. The legendary building was open to any in the Ghost Zone so long as you didn’t start any fights that could damage the books and scrolls inside.
Walker didn’t learn everything about ghosts from word of the ear. Prior to dying, he came across a few books teaching him an intermediate amount of how the spectors worked. Their powers, obsessions, weaknesses. While Walker didn’t have access to the more offensive abilities, the knowledge was all he needed to fight such supernatural entities, even beyond his final breath.
He continued building more knowledge by returning to the library. There was a section specifically for new ghosts who wanted to learn about how to handle the afterlife, but also for older ones to learn of rituals, common spells, and caring for their cores.
Walker made his way down the aisle, a young apprentice of a librarian having handed out the book that might have the answers he needed.
His eyes spotted the name of a book: Melbourne’s Guide to a Spectral Entity. It appeared to be far older than anything Walker had read, the spine of the book faded and tearing apart, the threads loose on the covers.
Walker took out the book from the shelf, a few lowly blob ghosts scuttling away to undisturbed places of the library. Prying the book open, he grazed through the pages, the words mostly in Old English, yet he somehow was able to read them.
One page stood out. A ghost and a human side by side, the older being a ghost, a depiction of their core present.
If a ghost dies prior to learning about any future descendants or relatives, a song they hold dear will be heard when they encounter them. The living or dead relatives will not be able to hear the song until the older one speaks the truth. When they do, then the relative will be seen as a true descendant. 
Rediscovering and reuniting is held as sacred to all ghosts. To break the bonds of family is viewed as disgraceful unless done properly. If not, dire consequences may occur to both the living and dead members.
Walker nearly dropped the book. It was impossible. There couldn’t be any connection between the Phantom and him. 
Either the book was speaking blasphemy, or it was some sort of joke that the half ghost conceived. But the boy looked too young to think up such an act.
There was only one ghost who had the answer: the master of time himself.
One doesn’t simply wander into Clockwork’s lair. To some it’s visible occasionally, and to others it doesn’t even appear in the Ghost Zone unless they need his assistance.
Clockwork already had seen a few timelines where Walker would come inside, but didn’t bother to turn around, cleaning up a gear connecting the multiple clocks the building held inside.
“A simple greeting wouldn’t be too much to ask,” He said.
“I need you to show me something,” The warden’s deep voice spoke.
“Do you know what you need to see?” Clockwork answered, drifting down to the place where the ghost stood. He noted in several timelines that the ghost preferred touching the ground, avoiding acting like a ghost during his time in the Ghost Zone for more than half a century.
“I need you to show me a family. Any related descendants of John James Walker,” The ghost narrowed his eyes. It was dangerous to reveal the true name a ghost had prior to dying, but Clockwork had no usage for such knowledge and never told a soul any when they asked. Not even a certain Daniel James Fenton had the privilege.
“As you wish, though I warn you Walker, you may not like what you’ll see.”
Clockwork escorted Walker to an old mirror, where a small clock was inserted on the wooden frame. Nothing was visible on the mirror except both their reflections. A small flick of his wrist to the right, and the hands turned back fast until they were a mere blur. 
Clockwork held his hand out and the clock stopped. In the mirror there were three children running on a farm. One was Will, a red headed boy, the other a brown haired girl named Elizabeth. The third was one he knew Walker recognized: himself. His hair was a dirty blonde color, yet his eyes were a stormy gray.
“Is this you,” Clockwork asked. Walker didn’t respond, stunned at the sight that he thought was all but in his memories.
“Bet you can’t catch me,” He heard his eldest brother shout.
“No fair, you had a head start,” His younger self cried out. Walker tentatively placed a hand on the mirror, the surface flickering like a leaf touching a puddle.
The ghost was silent as he watched the scene play out: a normal game of tag, with not a care in the world.
“Continue forward,” He spoke dryly, and Clockwork obliged.
The clock spun forward, and Clockwork halted it. The scene had changed to the inside of an old house. The sky beyond the windows was a dull gray, the grass in the distance muted green and brown colors.
A woman, Walker’s mother, stands by the door, reading a letter she had long awaited back from the army. Her anxious smile soon faded into disdain, and she muttered a few lines of the telegram to herself before she began to shake her head and cried. Her daughter Elizabeth, who was standing nearby, tries to console her but her words falter, and tears too begin pouring from her eyes.
A young Walker runs down the stairs, looking at both his family members. “Liz, what’s going on?” He asked worryingly.
Elizabeth looked up, her eyes wet from crying. “Dad,” She began, pausing as she coked up. “He’s not… coming back from the war…”
Clockwork maintained his distance, but saw Walker’s shoulders tense up. He took his hand away from the mirror, placing it inside one of his pockets.
The younger Walker in the mirror appeared confused. “Did he get held back again? Liz, tell me-”
“He’s gone Walker!” Elizabeth shouted before biting her lip. A shaky sigh escaped her mouth. “He’s gone…”
Clockwork turned the clock forward again. Walker didn’t seem to mind.
They paused again. Walker backed away again as the scene unfolded. It was a funeral being held around sunset. His mother appeared older, having begun growing gray hair and crying gently. William and Elizabeth were nearby with their own kids. Clockwork reckoned they were but six years old at the time of the unpleasant event.
“John, you didn’t deserve to go like this,” William spoke solemnly. “If we had known this was going to happen, maybe I’d have tried harder to convince you to tell the army to give you a break.”
“But you were an awful lot like dad,” He continued. “You didn’t want us to get too wrapped up in your troubles. I don’t know how many you had on your hands, ranging from learning I was drafted into the war to getting into the paranormal. All we have left of you are our memories. “
He set down a white lily onto the headstone marked with Walker’s name. 
“I hope you still have them when I meet you on the other side.”
The rest of the funeral played in silence. 
“Why are you showing me this,” Walker spoke, his head hung low.
“Your mother died sometime after your funeral,” Clockwork said quietly. “But her name lives on in one of your living relatives, Maddison. Elizabeth’s granddaughter.”
Walker perked up at the news, his eyes uncertain but wanting answers. “... Show me,” He muttered in slight disbelief.
The scene changed quickly, the hands slowing to a stop inside a modern home. Four figures were present. A woman, presumably Maddison, held a baby in her hands. It was easy to see the reason she was given the name, as she had a resemblance to Walker’s mother.
A man, the father of the baby, stood by, beckoning a smaller child to come forward. This one had reddish hair like her mother’s. The baby looked like it was recently born, their eyes remaining closed.
“Jazz, meet your baby brother,” The father spoke. 
Jazz looked at the baby with big eyes. “He’s small.”
“He’s only a baby Jazz,” Maddie said quietly, her eyes full of nothing but love for her children. “And he’ll need you to be there for him, even if we’re not around. Can you promise me that?”
Jazz gave a tiny nod.
“Here, you can hold him,” Maddie spoke, handing the sleeping child into the other’s hands. Jazz carefully held him. The baby stirred, but didn’t wake up. Jazz gave a smile in awe.
“What’s his name?” Jazz asked.
“We’re giving him a special name,” Jack told her. “One part comes from a relative of your mother’s.”
“I had a great great grandfather who was around long before you or I were born,” Maddie said. “He passed away in a war, but he gave a name to one of my great grandfathers, John James Walker.”
Walker let a faintly audible gasp that Clockwork made out.
“We’re naming him Daniel James Fenton,” Maddie continued. “So he can grow up and be just as good as both of them.”
At that moment, baby Danny started to cry, startling Jazz. Maddie took her younger child back into her arms, rocking him back and forth.
“Shhh, don’t cry sweetie,” she spoke softly. “Shhh. I’m right here, I’ll always be here to protect you, my little Danny.” She began humming a melody Clockwork knew Walker had known his whole life.
Clockwork let the hand return to the present, and the mirror reflected both ghosts.
“So,” Clockwork said, floating over to clean the clock on the mirror. It had been a while since he had done so. “What will you do now?”
Walker didn’t respond for a minute, placing together the pieces in his head. The older ghost counted till the moment where the warden would ask the question.
 “...He doesn’t know anything about this yet, correct?”
“Yes, that’s right,” Clockwork said.
“You better not do any funny business, old man,” Walker muttered, walking toward the exit.
“What do you intend to do,” the time keeper questioned.
Walker stopped at the steps. “My job. I’m the one making any attempt at order. Only something like Pariah Dark could stop me from doing that.”
Clockwork sensed that the ghost had left before glancing at another mirror playing a particular timeline scenario: Danny looking through a scrapbook detailing Maddie’s side of the family tree.
“Fate isn’t kind to you, is it Daniel,” The Master of Time muttered.

Served at the Somme as a field nurse and,"
The man before me takes a pause and looks up at me in faux surprise, as if the information on the paper he's gawking at isn't exactly why he's come seeking me out, and then continues in an almost condescending manner;
"Hm... and soforth was awarded title as Duchess and Sole Proprietor of Glenbrook Estates and Enterprises in Boston for her acts of valor.," He pauses again to throw down the file he was reading and light himself a cigarette.
I take in every detail, knowing that this meeting can end up only one of two ways, and assess the scenario. Tilting my head slightly and leaning back into the armchair in front of his desk, I cross my legs; his eyes glance from his ministrations with the box of matches he's holding and zip down to my left thigh where one strip of honeyed milk lies perfectly exposed between my black leather garter holster and my thigh-high nylon stockings.
I see the slight glint of mirth cross his steel blue eyes as he catches my not-so-subtle warning and continues to light his cigarette. I watch as he pulls his drag, the way his fingers just barely drape the stick of tobacco between them without effort, the way his eyes study mine, the way his free hand keeps switching between his knee and the top of the desk.
'A gangster like this doesn't get nervous over one woman with a snubnose purse pistol... Who is he waiting for?'
"I'll take one, while your at it." He smirks at this, and goes to hand me the one he's smoking. It's my turn to smirk, as I nod to his pack.
"A new one, if you don't mind." He raises his eyebrow, but nevertheless, complies. As I lean forward to take the cigarette, he lights another match and lights it for me, leaning over his desk so I don't have to.
'A gentlemanly gangster, not too hard on the eyes either.,' I admit to myself, studying his sharp features and piercing eyes.
Finally, after what seems like ages of simply sitting across and analyzing eachother, he continues.
"You're titled Duchess of Glenbrook but the common people call you Miss Kenna. You have 15 bars, 2 breeders farms, a horse track and 27 plots of real estate, and that's just in London alone. Glenbrook Estates is what, a mansion? And it says here you have 3 vacation homes as well." He scoffs and throws the file down on his desk.
"Well, let's get on with it, Mr. Shelby, as you well know, I'm a busy woman.," My voice is far too suave for my liking, but the situation calls for a little theater. "I would assume you called me here for a reason, this is hardly the place for a business meeting with someone of my status."
I sound like a proper posh cunt, and it seems as if he's taking the bait as he groans out a sigh and leans back into his chair. He lifts a hand to rub his temples, and then slams his fist on his desk in a motion so fast and loud, I was almost startled.
Almost.
He seems unfazed my lack of reaction, and continues on.
"Let's not pretend like you don't know what I want. You have influence all over, spies everywhere, and a very high standing. Everyone knows who you are. Nothing happens without you knowing about it.-"
"-As if I don't already know that-" I snappily interject.
"And I want your men, and your cooperation when we take over London. You're the most untouchable woman in all of North America. If you tell someone not to fuck with us, they won't. And those that do, you have ways of making it so they never existed."
I frown, sinking into the armchair infront of his desk once more and taking a long drag of my smoke.
"I see."
For the next few minutes we simply stare at eachother while we finish off our smokes, picking, analyzing, contemplating. Finally, after he offers me the crystal ashtray to put out, I appraise him and ask one simple question.
"What do you want from me?"

It's been 2 months since my meeting with Thomas Shelby at his gambling den, and 6 days since our last correspondence.
"Pack what you can in a suitcase and my men will come to collect you on Thursday. You're not safe."
No explanation, no reasoning, just that little tidbit over the phone while gunshots rang true and the sounds of men fighting grumbled in the background before he abruptly hung up. And since Thursday had come and gone the day after the call, I had resorted to relieving all of my staff save for my most trusted.
The only ones left on premises were my gate guards, my doormen, and my butler amd personal guard Carleton, who had only worked for me for 2 years but I was rather well aquanted with. We had hit it off rather well, and I considered him more friend than staff. He was a tall, broad shouldered Jewish man with a scruffy, large beard and bright eyes that reminded me of a child's, with a contradictory scowl that would make a grizzly piss himself.
Initially after receiving the warning, I had brushed it off without care. Being hunted was nothing new to me after all, being a woman who had served in the war and in other more internal battles of politics. But this was different.
I remember after the call I had snorted in laughter, summing it up as a joke and continuing on with my day. I had been untouchable, faceless and anonymous since the war. Only the most internal government files and most skilled intelligence organizations even knew what I looked like, let alone my real name. That was what had led me to agree to take up business with Thomas in the first place. But 2 months into business with the bloke and I show up to my race track to find every single one of my employees and horses shot and beat to hell.
Since then, I had taken to locking myself in my art studio with my easels and paints to distract myself; though it did little to nothing to soothe my racing mind. For the millionth time in just that day, I wondered why I wasn't safe, I wondered if Thomas and his Blinders had been picked off by their enemies, I wondered if my name had been let slip by one of his lackies in a braw deal that ended badly. I couldn't understand how I had gone from being untouchable, to going into hiding.
The only constant in each equation was none other than Thomas Shelby, and I made a mental note to tear him a new asshole when I got the chance.
I gave a start, knocked from my thoughts as Carleton entered with my afternoon tea, and my paintbrush skewed off stroke.
"Oh, fuck." I swore crassly, looking around my desk to find the paint I had used on the background to cover my mistake; not noticing my butler's sarcastic and smug grin over my classless use of vulgarity.
"Your tea, and lunch, Miss Muldoon." He presented my tray with grandiose show of putting it on my desk and lifting the cover to reveal my tea and what looked to be ladyfingers and some sort of meat sandwich. I didn't care, I was starving and anxious, so I sat and ate, thankful for the distraction.
"Don't be so smug, Carleton, I'm going mad up here." I complained as I ate, gesturing around me. "That smug bastard Shelby is going to pay for this. I've lived so comfortably until now."
"Speaking of, madam, you received a telegram."
"Oh bother, burn it."
"It seems important, ma'am. It mentions the race track."
At this I lean back to look over at him, he's moved clear halfway across the room to speak, and he's shifting his weight and wringing his hands. I sigh, and wave him on. He reads it out slowly, and I "tsk" in disappointment.
"You haven't been practicing," I chastise him, pulling a "give it here" motion with my fingers and taking the telegraph from him as soon as he's close enough. "Have you even read any of the practice books I've given you?"
"...No, ma'am, it's more difficult when you're not helping."
I glance at him with an incredulous look.
"That's no excuse, and you know it." I say, finally taking a moment to look at and read the telegraph in my hands, but it doesn't matter, because as soon as I go to focus, a gunshot resounds from outside the estate by the gates.
With a start, I get up and run to the window, moving the curtains to get a better view. I hear Carleton move the opposite way, closing the doors behind him as he leaves.
I continue to watch out the window, trying to see whats happening, though not to much success. The large fountain in my front garden is centre view from this room and all I can see behind it is a motorcar at my gate and my gatemen pointing their rifles at it. As I walk along the windows to try to catch a better view, I just barely see an arm come out the window of the motorcar with a piece of paper clutched in their outstretched hand before my gatemen move to unlock the gate and let the car through.
That's all I need to see to know.
The Peaky Blinders are outside my house.
(SO this will be a series based off of a slightly Mary-Sue character but it just is part of the story, please don't hate me for it lol. It'll make sense as to why she's this massive standing character later on. She's still a normal ass broad with hormones and issues so its okay lmfao. But anywhoooo, this is basically just a filler character intro to explain why Kenna is around and stuff. John will be in the next chapter, don't worry 😉 also my dumbass didn't proof-read this because its 6:00am and I NEED sleep. )

Life has been a bitch this week and I was hating everything I wrote. Chapter Summary: Daphne receives a very unexpected invitation while the Shelby's have to deal with Sabini's retaliation. Tommy buys a new horse and gets to know a possible new asset at the same time that Polly tries to understand what is the nature of his interest in the woman working with Solomons. Ada has a heart to heart with her friend and Alfie makes a surprise for Daphne.

“Next month?!” Daphne’s shocked expression and high-pitched tone of voice made the engaged couple laugh. William was a little behind them, by the door, a smirk on his face. “Now I understand what you’re saying about them hushing things.”
“You never believe me.” Daphne just rolled her eyes at his mockery before Jane quipped in her defense.
“Well, you have a habit of overreacting about things.” The doctor narrowed his eyes to looks at his sister.
“Always knew that you were going to be a little traitor.” They all laughed, apart from William, although everyone knew that it was just an act.
“Nothing like a little display of sibling love by the Weston’s.” Alfie commented, surprising Daphne with his good mood. The last few days had been a little strange for them, both had totally ignored the episode of the window, but his words kept coming back to haunt the woman every time she looked at him. She was distracted observing him when their eyes met, Alfie gave her a heartwarming smile that Daphne promptly returned.
“We are always happy to entertain, Alfie.” There was false mockery in his tone.
“But we didn’t come here for William to complain about everything.” She turned to face the other woman, her expression was serious but joyful. “I want you to be my maid of honor.” Daphne blinked a few times, shock washing trough her. She expected to be invited to the weeding, of course - the two of them were good friends, after all – but being Jane’s maid of honor wasn’t something that she had in mind.
“Oh, I… Of course. It will be my pleasure.” Jane got up to embrace her friend, bubbling with happiness.
“William here already accepted to be the best man, despite his constants complains.” That resulted in Charles receiving a slap on the back of the head, given by his future brother-in-law, making them all laugh aloud.
“In all these years that I know him I never saw William do anything without complaining.” He looked at Daphne shaking his head.
“What’s this, a plot to ruin my reputation?”
“What reputation, mate?” Charles chocked in laughter and soon the others accompanied him.
“Et tu, Brute?”
“What can I say, mate. You make it too easy, aye.” When they all recovered from their laughter, Jane addressed herself to the gangster.
“Of course you’re invited too, Alfie.”
“And I will be there, for sure. Wouldn’t miss William’s speech for anything.” That was something that Daphne had missed, the friendly banter between Alfie and William, that brought a genuine smile to her face that didn’t escaped Alfie’s eyes.
“The betrayal. I thought we were friends, Solomons.” The doctor complained while Alfie just shrugged.
“What can I say, business is business, my friend.”

“This had better be good to interrupt my holiday.” Polly rushes into the betting shop after John has opened the door that connects it to the house. It’s clear that she is in a hurry and in no mood to small talk.
“Where's the boy?” Arthur asked when she was putting her things on the table.
“In the back room. I only brought him because afterwards we're going to the museum.” Another obvious thing was that she didn’t wanted Michael involved in the family business, even though she knew it was an herculean task.
“He wanted to come in and say hello but...”
“Shut up, John. There is nothing of interest to Michael in this room.” Said nephew stopped talking altogether, looking a little dismayed. “Tommy, get on with it.”
“Last night, one of our men had his throat cut in Winson Green. This morning, I had a telegram to say it was Sabini who ordered it.”
“And it says here that Thomas Shelby's next.” Arthur added, ripping said telegram into pieces. Despite the death threat on his life, Thomas didn’t looked that concerned, like he wasn’t with most things. Just another day in the job.
“If our men think we can't look after them in prison, they'll not work for us. Sabini knows that. So we need to get the Green sorted out. Scudboat, you and one of the boys. “Instead of breaking a window, can we pinch a car?” All of the men, besides from Tommy, start laughing. “What? Everybody else is getting a bloody car. I'm still on a donkey.”
“All right, just get yourselves fucking arrested, it doesn't matter how. And before you all laugh, a boy is dead. He was just a kid. We'll start a fund for his family, Pol.”
“Agreed.” The woman says, solemnly. “So is that it? Can I go now?” She starts picking up her things just to hear Tommy talking again.
“Well, as company treasurer, I need your permission to spend a thousand guineas.” That makes her stop and look at him.
“On what?”
“On a horse.”
“A thousand guineas on a horse?”
“That's right.”
“When was this decided?” She starts passing, deep in thinking.
“You've been busy with Michael.” He knew that she would question it but this was a means to an end. Sometimes it was difficult to make people see what he saw. Even Polly.
“Oh, my God. So, in the absence of common sense, you boys have had an idea.”
“Polly there's a thoroughbred quarter-Arab filly up for auction at the Doncaster Blood Stock.” Polly looks at him.
“What do we want with a thousand guinea horse?” Tommy sighs, before explaining.
“When we make our move on Sabini's racing pitches, any men we get into the betting enclosure will be lifted by Sabini's police. A good racehorse is a passport to the owner's enclosure.”
“We'll be in there with all the toffs. Coppers won't know where to look.” Arthur adds and John accompanies him, excitedly.
“Yeah, the Epsom Derby, Pol. We'll be drinking with the bloody King.”
“The Derby? Did he say the Derby?” The glare Thomas gave to his younger brother erased the smile in John’s face while he lowered his head. The leader of the Peaky Blinders took a deep breath and cleared his throat before speaking.
“That's right. For the last ten years, Sabini has made it his race. If we're going to take him down, might as well make it there as a symbol.”
“Did you come up with this idea in a pub by any chance?” Her tone was drenched in pure sarcasm.
“Pol a good racehorse is an investment, like property. We need to diversify the portfolio.”
“So when is this sale?”
“Tomorrow.”
“And Tommy's had a death threat so we'll have to go with him for protection.” The older of the Shelby siblings explained.
“So, you're going to close up the shop, go out on a piss-up and blow a thousand guineas on a horse that's not even whole Arab?”
“Quarter Arab is better! Quarter Arab, it means...” Polly cuts him off.
“Curly, shut up.” The door that connects the betting shop to the house open to reveal Michael. Polly instantly looks reprovingly at John. “I thought I told you to lock that door.”
“He did. I used the key on the nail.” The younger boy explains. “Look, I've been listening. I want to go with them.”
“You see?!” The Shelby matriarch throws her arms up in exasperation while Tommy looks at his cousin.
“I love horses. I could even help!” The excitement mixed with hope that his mother would allow him to go with his cousins was evident in Michael’s face.
“Over my dead body.” The older woman said, crossing her arms.
“It'll be all right, Mum. I've been to loads of horse auctions before with my uncle. They're very respectable. People bring their butlers.”
“Yeah, and their posh wives!” Arthur said, smirking and taking a sip of his whiskey.
“And their mistresses.” Added John, elbowing his cousin while they laughed.
“Let him come, Polly.” Arthur tried to convince the woman. “We'll go there, buy a horse, come back.”
“I'll drop him back at the house in Sutton before it gets dark.” Promised John to his aunt.
“No. Fucking no.” Michael left the room slamming the door behind him, clearly upset. Polly looked at Thomas and after a minute that seemed to last too long, he treated to clear the room.
“All right, that's it. Back to work.” All of the men started to leave, going back to his own tasks. John stayed behind, approaching his aunt.
“Come on! Aunt Pol, when I was Michael's age, I'd killed a hundred men and seen a thousand die. If you want to scare that kid away forever, carry on how you are going. If you want him to stay, let him come.”

Thomas couldn’t say that he was surprised to see his aunt entering his office later that day. After the incident with Michael earlier he expected that she would come around, he just didn’t predicted the reason why she wanted to talk to him.
“How’s Michael?” He asked when she took a sit in one of the chairs in front of his desk, his eyes not leaving the papers he was analyzing.
“Beaming with happiness now that he wored me down to go with you lot, tomorrow.” She answered with a sigh. “But that’s not what bought me here.”
“What it is then?”
“That woman” Polly started, waiting for his attention to be back on her, but he ignored it completely, the only reaction that she got was his pen freezing for a couple of seconds “the one you and Ada were taking to at the Garrison.”
“What about her?” His tone was dismissive, however, his aunt wasn’t foolish. She was pissed off with him that night at the reopening of the Garrison, but she most definitely saw his interaction with the unknown woman that had arrived and departed of the pub like smoke, but not before drawing all eyes to her.
“Who is she?”
“She is the woman who works with Solomons.” He hoped that would end with the interrogation but he wasn’t that lucky.
“The one you were curious about?” Tommy exhaled loudly, dropping the document he was currently reading to look at his aunt.
“Yeah, that would be her.”
“She knows our Ada.” She would have asked Ada about the woman if she had had the chance, – her niece certainly would be less evasive than Thomas -but her son had appeared at her door and the subject escaped to the back of her mind. Also, the gipsy woman needed to see his reaction to know if they were going to have another problem like they had with that barmaid.
“Yes, they know each other from London.”
“I want to meet her.” He wrinkled his forehead.
“Why?”
“Because the last time a woman caught your attention your judgment became clouded and we both know that it didn’t end well.”
“It’s not like that.”
“Maybe not yet, but I know the look in your eyes. She intrigues you. I noticed the first time you talked about her. I brushed it off because I thought it was just because of the business, but the way you behaved yourself around her that night at the Garrison tells me otherwise.” Thomas takes a deep breath but does not confirm or denies her suspicions.
“I’m certain that Ada can schedule tea for you three...”
“No. I want you to be there.” She wanted to see firsthand how he reacted to this girl because the last thing that Polly trusted was in men and their cocks. Thomas wasn’t the worst of the Shelby brothers in this topic – John was the man whore of the three of them – but since he was in charge of things in the family, the potential of trouble was higher.
“I will see what I can do.”

“To the premises of Mr. Charles Strong, Small Heath.” The man wrote down on the book before looking up at Tommy. “What kind of premises?”
“Boat yard.” The Brummie answered unamused.
“Yachts?”
“Canals.”
“I'm curious. What is your business, Mr. Shelby?” The man asked, giving Tommy a piece of paper.
“Import, export.” Before he left, Tommy added. “But I also sell pegs and tell fortunes.”
“You beat us to it.” The feminine voice made him stop and turn around - it was the woman of the auction. The one who had been stealing glances at the gangster since they arrived.
“Did I?”
“I was trying to nab a filly for my stud.” Thomas knew that she was only trying to catch his attention, but he played along.
“Sorry.”
“Thomas Shelby from where?” He took a deep breath before answering.
“From Birmingham.”
“Goodness!” There was a certain amount of surprise in her voice, mixed with shock.
“No, not much.”
“May Carleton.” She extended her hand for him and he took it. “I breed racehorses and train them. What is it you do?”
“I rarely answer questions, is what I do.”
“Tommy, come on, hurry up! We've got to go!” Arthur shouted in the background, laughing.
“Well, before you go, if you ever decided to put that filly out, I'd be interested in having her.”
“I plan to race her.” She looked at him surprised.
“Do you have a trainer?”
“I know people.”
“I know people, too.” The woman replied giving Tommy her card.
“Tommy! We've got to get this kid back before dark or Polly will have your balls!” John shouted this time while they all laughed.
“She will have 'em!” Arthur quipped in.
“We know different people, I would guess.” Tommy just ignored his brother’s giggles in the background.
“My father knows Mick Hancock. Trained three Ascot winners.”
“Oh, so that was your father?” He was right, them. She was talking to him for a reason – a reason that didn’t involve the horse at all.
“Yes. We're joint owners of the stud. He took the majority share when my husband was killed. Ypres.”
“Tommy! We've got to get back to the caravans! The chickens are hungry!” May looked at them and chuckled before asking.
“So will you consider me?”
“I will consider you.”
“You still didn't tell me what you do.” Tommy turned to face her again.
“Oh, I do bad things. But you already know that.” She could be a good asset for their plan and maybe – hopefully - help him get his mind off of the damn mystery that was Daphne Scott.

Things have been quite calm for Daphne since she received Jane’s invitation to be her maid of honor. She saw the girl almost daily now, helping her prepare everything that was needed for the ceremony in such a short time. To say that the youngest of the Weston’s siblings was beaming with joy would be an understatement – she was all smiles and compliments and it ended up rubbing off on Daphne, even if just a little bit.
She had met William a couple of times too, since he was involved in the preparations as much as her seeing that he wasn’t just the best man but also the bride’s older brother. He tried to sound annoyed in every meeting, but Daphne knew that he was happy for the couple, just worried that his little sister would be out of his sight from now on.
Alfie was an entirely different matter. Things had been as normal as you would expect between them. No more visits from Thomas Shelby, no more employees being knocked out cold, everything seemed to run smoothly. However, Daphne knew in her heart that something wasn’t right. More than once, she had caught him staring at her from the distance with a frown on his face, deep in thinking. He usually did not even noticed that she had caught him staring, but when he did, the Jew made quick work to turn the other way, pretending that nothing happened.
In all the years she had known him, Daphne never gave too much though about the reasons why he kept her around. Alfie wasn’t exactly what you could call “a man of his word”. She had seen him betray his associates for his own benefit more than once - and being brutally honest, she couldn’t say that if the roles were reversed she would have done different. With her, thought, he always had been anything but loyal. He had helped her in the moment she most needed and they constructed a strong bond. Strong enough for her to consider him family.
In all the years they have worked together, they learned how to read each other – that was one of the reasons why they functioned so well as partners. And that’s why she knew she wasn’t going crazy because he was, most certainly, hiding something from her. His words kept hammering in her head: “Do you trust me? Because sometimes I wish you didn’t.”.
“You look like Tommy.” Daphne blinked a few times while looking at Ada.
“What?”
“You do this thing of looking straight away, to nowhere, not blinking or moving while you’re deep in thinking. He does that sometimes.” Ada laughed when the other woman raised one eyebrow at her. “I can’t help it if you two have so much in common.” There was a pause while she poured the both of them another cup of tea. “He’s been asking about you.”
“Who?” Ada rolled her eyes, sitting down on the chair again.
“You know who. My knucklehead of a brother.” Daphne laughed at that while the other woman just observed her carefully. There was a hint of concern in her voice when she asked “Why is he so interested in you, Daph?”
“It’s not in me he’s interested in, it’s in my relationship with Alfie.” Or so she had been trying to convince herself. Since she last talked to Harriet Daphne had been trying to figure out what she felt towards the Brummie gangster, with no luck so far. It seemed that the much she thought about it more confused she was getting.
“Forgive me if I don’t believe in that for a second. I know my brother and the way he looks at you has nothing to do with curiosity about your relationship with Solomons.” Daphne had no answer to that so she took a sip of her tea trying to ignore Ada’s scrutinizing gaze.
“Just be careful, okay.”
“Ada, even if he is interested in me it doesn’t mean that anything will happen. Even if I was interested in him too.” Daphne regretted her words the moment they left her mouth.
“Are you?”
“Am I what?”
“Interested in him?” There was a long silence where the two of them just stared at each other. “Just have in mind that Tommy usually gets what he wants and this not necessarily means that it will be what you want too.”
“Ada…”
“I really like you, Daph. And I know that deep down my brother is a good man. He’s just… Not the same since he came back from the war and I would hate to see him hurt you.” Neither of them had the time to address the subject further since Karl entered the room in a rush going straight to Daphne’s lap. As they both giggled at something that the little boy had done, the topic dissipated in the air. The unfinished conversation had to wait for another time.

When they entered the pub everyone stood up, clapping their hands as they passed. Daphne just looked at Alfie and he only shrugged, a hand on her back to guide her through the crowd. Some of the people greeted her on their way to the mezzanine just beside the stage.
“I’ll bloody kill you, Solomons.” She said to him through clenched teeth and he laughed at her, whispering into her ear.
“No, you won’t love.” Despite being pissed off at him for ignoring her wishes of not doing anything at her birthday, Daphne couldn’t help but feel touched by his gesture.
“You tricked me into this.” He made her stop at the base of the stairs that lead to the mezzanine beside the stage, turning her to face him and resting his hands on her arms.
“I knew that it was the only way for you to come, don’t blame me for wanting to see you happy.” The young woman just nodded, ignoring all the eyes on them, before she let him lead her upstairs. She recognized almost all of the faces that turned to look at them when they arrived on the mezzanine – Ollie and his wife, Jane and Charles, William, Harriet, some of their work associates, Ada and Karl, but her eyes were instantly draw to a pair of blue irises fixed on her. His stare was so intense that she felt like getting lost in them, but the connection was broken when Karl escaped Ada’s arms and run right to her screaming “Dee Dee”, making everyone smile. She caught him by reflex while he hugged her.
“Mommy said that this was for you. She said it is your birrr…” He gave her a package that Daphne knew contained a book all the while struggling to say the word birthday. She smiled and kissed him on the check.
“Birthday, sweet pea.” Alfie chuckled behind them while Ada walked to them.
“That it.”
“What have I told you about running away from me, Karl?” It was always amazing to see Ada step into her motherly figure.
“But it was Dee Dee!” The boy protested snuggling into Daphne’s neck while the woman smiled.
“It doesn’t matter, you can’t do that, Karl.”
“It’s okay, Ada. He won’t do it again.” Karl straightened himself to look at Daphne. “Will he?”
“No, Dee Dee.” She smiled at him again and he gave her a kiss on the check. Ada could do nothing but shake her head.
“That’s a good boy.” Daphne placed him on the ground and Ada stepped closer to hug her.
“Happy Birthday, Daph. I know you hate it, but try and have some fun, will you?” They looked at each other for a moment.
“I won’t promise you anything.” The two smiled at each other and Ada hushed Karl back to where they were sitting so Daphne could talk to the other guests.
Jane almost knocked her out to the ground in a very good mimicking of what Karl had just done while everyone laughed. Charles was right behind her - the couple seemed to be stuck into a bubble of unbreakable happiness. William was trying – and failing miserably – to hide a smile right behind them.
“Trying to maintain your reputation of ‘The grumpy Weston’, I see.”
“Somebody has too.” He smiled, before hugging her. “Happy Birthday, Daph.”
“Okay, can you release her now? She’s not exclusively yours, you know?” They separated themselves from the embrace and laughed at Harriet standing right behind them, hands on her waist as if she was about to give them the scold of their lives.
“You and your wonderful timing, as always.” William huffed, rolling his eyes and receiving a slap on the arm from Daphne.
“Get away, lover boy.” The courtesan jested, smiling bright at Daphne before taking her in a hug like the others. “Are you okay?” The question was asked quietly, just for Daphne to hear. They kept each other close after they parted from the hug.
“I will be.” Harriet knew that it was a lie – Daphne was not okay, she would never be okay, not entirely and the sadness in her eyes proved that. She wanted to convince her friend that she could be happy, she should be happy, but sometimes the woman could be as headstrong as Alfie. Harriet just nodded and Daphne moved onto the next person that was waiting to greet her, with the Jew following her closely.

The blood red of the dress contrasted with her skin and for a moment, Tommy let his eyes wander down her body. The sleeveless piece of clothing was sophisticatedly draped with intricate embroidery at the front, the velvet was loose on her curves, marked only at the waist but the back had a low-cut that showed a good amount of her skin, since her hair was loosely tied. The golden locket always around her neck.
Thomas felt pulled by her presence like a moth to a flame. He observed, curiously, as she crossed the room with Alfie right behind her, all eyes on her. Then it took him by surprise the way his nephew had run to her, hugging and kissing her as if she was family. He already knew that she and Ada were close but he was right in assuming – after Ada called her by a nickname – that their bond was stronger than he had predicted.
Polly noticed the way Tommy’s eyes were immediately attracted to the woman the moment she entered the pub. She took her time observing the girl too. It was undeniable that she was beautiful – all soft curves, long hair and a smile that could light up the whole room – but there was something more, something about the way she carried herself that made people captivated by her.
She watched Thomas observing the girl and immediately recognized the spark in his eyes – there was no denying that he was attracted to her, Polly wanted to know in what extent. The older woman saw the same spark in Daphne’s eyes when their eyes crossed just before Karl jumped into the woman’s arms. Her relationship with Ada was something that Polly would explore later, because there was no way that her niece would have left Karl around someone she didn’t trusted.
“That woman over there isn’t Harriet?” John’s voice broke the spell and Tommy looked at the woman his brother was talking about – it was the brunette, dressed in a tight navy blue skirt and white blouse mocking a the man who was hugging Daphne at the moment.
“Harriet? You must be crazy Jhonny, boy. This can’t be…” Arthur’s mouth fell open before he could finish the sentence.
“The owner of one of the most famous brothels in London?” John looked at the older Shelby, smugly, but Tommy’s attention was securely held by the interaction between Daphne and the man that had just hugged her. He seemed like one of those rich gentlemen that every mother wanted for their daughters at the same time that he held an air of rebellion. What made Thomas wary was the way his touch lingered on Daphne who seemed unbothered by it.

Daphne graciously greeted everyone in the mezzanine – everyone except for the group of people watching her on the other side of the mezzanine. She looked at Alfie that just motioned for her to follow him.
“And I took the opportunity to invite the rest of the Shelby clam, so we could get acquaintance, aye. Now, you already know Tommy here, this is the rest of his family.”
“Arthur Shelby, at your service.” The eldest of the brothers kissed the back of Daphne’s hand, making her smile.
“Daphne Scott.”
“John Shelby, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He mimicked his older brother moves, a flirtatious smile on his face.
“Likewise. You aren’t supposed to have a wife, somewhere?” Arthur almost spat his drink trying to contain his laughter and John cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. Alfie chuckled behind her.
“She had to stay home with the kids.”
“Send her my regards, then.” He nodded at her, clearly not used being caught flirting like that. Daphne’s eyes then stopped in the older woman beside Thomas. She was staring at her quizzically but there was a hint of a smile on her features.
“Polly Gray.” She took a second too much to extend her hand for the younger woman to take, probably trying to make a point. Her grip was firm but so was Daphne’s – two could play at this game.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. Ada talks greatly of you.” The girl knew how to play, Polly had to give her that. The way she handed John’s flirting showed that she knew how to handle herself and, most importantly, that she had done her fair share of research on them. By bringing Ada into the conversation right now, she was trying to gain the older woman’s good graces.
“Funny thing is that she never mentioned you.”
“I had to keep her away from the bunch of you or otherwise she would have left running.” Ada quipped in, having just arrived back at the mezzanine after going to the bathroom, before Daphne could say anything.
“Well, she is not running.” Her hazel eyes encountered Tommy’s when he spoke, keeping himself beside his aunt. Daphne held his gaze when she answered.
“It takes a lot more to make me run.”
“I hear that a happy birthday is in order.” He extended his hand to her, that she took without question, the touch lasting a minute longer than it should.
“Dee Dee, are you going to have a cake?” Daphne released Tommy’s hand to lower herself to Karl’s level before talking to the little boy.
“Maybe. Why? Will you want some?”
“’Cause when it’s your birrr…” She smiled again.
“Birthday.”
“Yeah, you have to blow the candles, right?”
“That’s right, lad. Do you want to go see if Daph’s cake is ready?” Daphne was amused at how shocked everyone looked when Alfie lowered himself at her side to talk with the little boy, who looked at him shyly. Karl looked at his mother who nodded at him, before looking at Daphne again.
“Will you help me blow out the candles?” He only nodded excitedly, before taking the hand that Alfie offered him and the two of them walked to the kitchen. When Daphne straightened herself, observing Alfie and Karl going down the stairs seemingly in a happy conversation, she directed herself to her friend. “That was a low blow, even for you.”
“What can I say, we play with the cards we have.”

136. porky’s pet (1936)

the first of MANY, MANY cartoons to flaunt porky’s name in the title. this is also jack king’s second to last cartoon at warner bros—he headed back for disney as early as april 1936, leaving the rest of his films to run on. porky’s moving day, released in september, would be his last. for now: porky and his pet ostrich lulu are broadway bound, but trouble arises when the train forbids any animals to board. it’s up to porky to find a way to hide his extremely noticeable and indiscreet pet.
a telegram boy is pedaling along on his bicycle, determined to deliver his envelope, bumping all along the way. i didn’t include a photo thanks to the 10 photo limit, but you’ll notice some signs in the background, such as “malaria motel” and “buy burton’s burpo beer”, a reference to producer john burton. the scene runs a little long, yet it’s deliberate so as to show off the syncopation between the animation, music, and sound effects of intermittent bike horn honking.

nevertheless, the telegram boy arrives at his destination by crashing into the sidewalk. unscathed, he jauntily hops onto the porch and rings the doorbell a few times. out comes porky, who answers the door. a telegram just for him. he accepts the envelope and signs off. an amusing little detail as he tucks the envelope in the lip of his sweater, taking it out and tearing off the side.

the telegram reads:

CAN USE YOU AND LULU IN MY NEW SHOW $75 WEEK. STOP. (that’s how you ended a sentence, considering there was no morse code equivalent to a period) COME NEW YORK AT ONCE

remember when i said porky would never say “WHOOPEEEEE!” again after gold diggers of ‘49? well, that’s one bet i lost. i totally forgot, but he says his famous “WHOOPEE!” here, too. i THINK this is the last time he says it, unless porky’s moving day has a surprise waiting for me. regardless, porky is ecstatic. he dashes upstairs, telegram in hand, skidding to a halt into his bedroom.
he approaches a birdcage, where we see the beginnings of a big bird head inside. porky shows off the letter to his pet, stuttering “look, lulu! look!” a clever pan reveals that lulu is, in fact, a giant pet ostrich with her head in the birdcage and the rest of her body perched in a rocking chair. lulu gives her approval by squawking hilariously and incomprehensibly. “we’re broadway bound, lulu! we’re gonna be big shots!”
porky hardly wastes any time tying a rope around lulu’s neck and freeing her from the confines of her arbitrary birdcage. with his hat on his head and a couple of oddly places train whistle imitations, porky declares “let’s go!” and together they fly down the staircase, lulu sliding down on the banister. good animation that’s easily mesmerizing. lulu hits the end of the banister while porky runs ahead, nearly choking her as he flies back towards her from the impact. nevertheless she gets down, and porky’s so excited he whips out the door, the door closing on lulu and hitting her right in the face. she chatters porky out furiously, but manages to recover.

some time later, porky and his prized lulu arrive at the train station, seeking out the nearest train. after hearing the sound of the all too familiar whistle, porky attempts to flag down the train, waving his hand and his hat to get it to stop. we then get a shot of the train, hurtling down the tracks at frightening speeds. so fast that the conductor doesn’t take note of porky and his very obvious bird companion. the train speeds by, spinning porky, lulu, and the entire station around like a top, a sequence that would be perfected and stronger in tex’s the village smithy.
both porky and lulu attempt to recover from the impact, porky stuttering “stop!” all too late while lulu has her head buried in a hole in the floorboards. nevertheless, they both recover quickly when the sound of another train approaches. this time, porky thinks ahead. he pulls a lever that flashes a stop sign, and the speeding train literally jolts to a stop on the middle of the tracks. good timing and amusingly stark visuals make the gag work. there’s an intriguing angle from inside the station as we view porky and lulu happily board from outside. silence... until a yokel train conductor yells “YOU CAN’T BRING NO BUZZARD ON THIS TRAIN!”

lulu and porky are promptly kicked out, landing right inside the station. (if you notice, one of the flyers posted advertises millar manor, a reference to story man tubby millar) porky signals for lulu to bend down low, and he whispers a plan in her ear. the plan: lulu wait by the tracks while porky boards, and he’ll pick her up as the train passes by. lulu gives her squawks of approval. porky signals for lulu to go to her post, and he himself boards the train.
sure enough, the train begins to chug, the wheels turning. lulu waits patiently, and just as porky promised, he sticks his hand out the window and grabs her by the neck. her neck is so long that the rest of her body lags behind, flopping in the wind, much to the surprise of one of the passengers looking out the window. porky wrestles her inside, and everything’s good to go.

here we have it, folks! the infamous “porky stuffing an ostrich up his ass” scene. porky realizes he didn’t quite think things through. an ostrich is a pretty damn noticeable bird. he signals under the seat, trying to stuff her in, ordering “hurry up, lulu! get under the seat before the conductor sees ya!” another push, and her head pops out of the crack in the seat, giving some happy squabbles. treg brown’s sound effects turn a puzzling scene into an amusing one with nonstop honking, porky wrestling with how to get both ends of her body under the seat. it’s still a relatively awkward scene, but the sound effects certainly add humor to it. eventually porky opts to sit on the seat himself, stuffing lulu’s body under and hoping he can conceal her head. but, as to be expected, lulu pecks him right in the butt and he jumps up in shock. another stuff beneath the seat, and she’s about as concealed as she’ll get. porky grins at the camera, clearly accomplished with his feat.

but, as birds will do, lulu hardly stays in one place long. she wrangles herself out from beneath the seat and swallows the toupee of a sleeping passenger’s from behind. ham or ex makes one final appearance! if only there was any indication as to how to tell them apart. the little pup turns the propeller of a toy plane and watches it whirl around in fascination. the plane makes its way towards lulu, who promptly swallows it. of course, the plane is still on, and works its way up from her throat all the way to her head, giving her “dog ears”. amusing animation as lulu’s neck loops around itself, the plane in her head directing her uncontrollably as she loops around her own body, flipping and flying around. she crashes right into a door, where the plane just... disappears. she doesn’t spit it out or anything of the sort, it literally just... melts away. nevertheless.

lulu now has her sights set on an accordion, which she also deems a delicious snack. and, predictably, her neck moves up and down and sounds like an accordion. a very predictable gag that isn’t all that hilarious, but porky’s look of pure horror as she strolls past his seat is totally priceless.
just in time for the conductor to ask for tickets. panic-stricken, porky snags a guitar case out from under the seat in front of him and stuffs lulu inside. her accordion neck blares loudly and noticeably, and he grabs her neck and wrings it out, sliding the accordion down to her body where it disappears. first a plane and now an accordion! maybe lulu’s act on broadway is “The Bottomless Ostrich”. she now fits in the guitar case... except for her feathers, which prominently stick out of the bottom. porky steals someone’s pair of scissors (what a thief!) and cuts off the fluff, and instead of returning the scissors hilariously throws them out the window instead, hiding the feathers under the seat. instead of just, you know, tossing them out instead.

the conductor approaches porky for his ticket, but lulu suddenly grows rowdy, giving herself away immediately as the guitar case begins to jolt around and squawk. she wrestles her legs free and barrels into the conductor, who now rides on top of the guitar case like some sort of twisted steed. lulu barrels into the end of the cabin, freeing herself from the case. porky goes to wrangle back his bird, but it’s too late. the conductor furiously throws her out the window, and then throws porky out himself. nice service!

they reconnect on the tracks, porky shrugging dubiously. fortune smiles upon them when they spot a handcar. they both board at opposite ends, preparing to push their way to broadway, yet a cow blocks their path. no matter! porky positions himself on the handles and grabs the cow’s tail like some reins, and they’re off. soon they even manage to pass the very train they were booted from, much to the bewilderment of the conductor, who passes out as porky tips his hat and lulu squawks her greetings. iris out.
with a lot of these rewatches of the jack king cartoons, i’ve softened my perception of them and appreciated them more, but they’re still relatively below average. nevertheless, this cartoon was, if anything, amusing. not particularly funny, but amusing to watch porky’s plight as he works so hard to hide his Very Obvious pet. lulu’s squawking is hilariously obnoxious, which works in her favor and against her at the same time. the animation was very smooth and fun to watch for sure, especially with lulu sliding down the banister and lulu swallowing the toy plane. lulu would make one more appearance in porky’s moving day, which is kinda funny. i wonder, if jack king stayed longer, how many more cartoons she would have popped up in. overall a decent cartoon but nothing to write home about. it wouldn’t kill you to watch it, but i think you’d be fine if you went without.

Welcome to EverythingTimeless’ Weekly Roundtable, a sprawling discussion in which your friendly neighborhood Mod Time Team breaks down episodes of our favorite show, Timeless. We can’t promise to be coherent, but we’ll try our best.
This week: Season 1, Episode 3 - Atomic City
Kate: Friends, noblepersons, fandom, lend us your dashes, it is time to go down the time travel rabbit hole to Las Vegas 1962 and hear all about our feelings related to it.

Sarah: And boy was it The Bomb.
Ann: SARAH BRINGING THE JOKES.
Kate: RIGHT OUT THE GATE, COMING IN LIKE A HOT NUKE.
Sarah: Like ripping off a bandaid. Which Kate just spat on.
Kate: I’m not sorry.
Sarah: I feel like this is the first of the episodes where I didn't have a solid grasp on the history. Which was kind of great. Because I had no expectations or predictions.
Ann: Agreed. I had just enough Vegas Rat Pat knowledge to have a touchstone, but that's about it.
Kate: Hard agree. I had no clue they were dropping radiation balloons all over the Nevada desert. Silly humans.
Luckily Hilary (@qqueenofhades) fills us in on all the deets in her weekly historical supplemental special. Check. It. Out.
Ann: That I did know! I'm weirdly fascinated by atomic bombs, so for me, to see how they literally made it into a spectator sport in the 60s is WILD.
(My birthday is on the anniversary of Nagasaki. It's a horrendous thing to be forever tied to.)
Kate: I like that Timeless goes after the more obscure as well as the well known. Kudos.
Sarah: It definitely allows for narrative breathing room.
Ann: I will say that again, even though it was terrifying from a future         perspective, once again Timeless brought the cinematic beauty with that Vegas opening.
Sarah: That they did.
Kate: The window shot of Judith Campbell watching the mushroom cloud was breathtaking.
Sarah: Could you imagine seeing that and not being terrified?
Ann: Before we get too into plot. I need to talk about the costumes this week. THE COSTUMES.That saffron dress Lucy wore
Kate:  Lucy was gorgeous. Right down to the gloves.
Sarah:  Wyatt's look at the Cigarette Girl outfit was pretty fabulous. See: sassy comment.
Kate:  He wanted her to wear it. Yes he did.
Ann  The eyes don't lie.
Sarah: Judith's outfits were gorgeous too. Bombshell. Bomb-shell.
Kate: A big part of this episode has Rufus refusing to believe Anthony could betray the team and help steal the mothership. Rufus and his big ass heart. I cry. Always.
Sarah: Rufus believes in people a lot - which is amazing because of the three team members, he could be the most cynical about time traveling. But ultimately, what I feel like this episode's strong suit is, is also called out by Rufus: They are finally starting to gel as a team.
Kate: They are. Wyatt refuses to shoot Anthony because Rufus asks.They start having time team banter aimed at Lucy's surprise engagement in the Lifeboat.
Sarah: Wyatt is particularly sassy.
Which I am on board with.
All the winks and saucy looks.
Ann: Ugh yes. Wyatt was wayyyy too "nonchalant" about it all. YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE.
Kate: Wyatt is also extra testy. Because this man is hurting over Jessica and just wants to find a damn way to fix it. Can you imagine having a dead spouse and a time machine and being told you cannot do anything?
Ann: Not even remotely.
Sarah: And he keeps trying. While also - at the moment - obeying the overt rules of time travel. As evidenced by him sending a telegram 50 years into the future. (It worked in Back to the Future II...)
Kate: I like the way the writers have these beginning interactions with him and Lucy, that aren't overt but open little doors, but also show the faithfulness to his wife. It is a hard balance and I think they succeed.
Ann: Agreed.its an important character build, especially if they intend him for Lucy, who is a character people hold in VERY high regard. He needs to have the loyalty and integrity to be worthy of her. And he oddly demonstrates that integrity and loyalty first to another woman. But it plays.
Kate: It does.
Sarah: It really does. And I think part of that is that you can see the love he had - or has - for his wife, but the guilt is what drives him.
Kate: Also interesting was that in an episode where you expect focus on Sinatra or Kennedy you instead get Judith Campbell. Love it.
Ann: BECAUSE TIMELESS GETS IT.
Sarah: Timeless. Gets. It. Thank you for focusing on a lady instead of womanizers.
Kate: I love that they humanize a woman degraded by history (particularly when the men were completely excused and they were the ones with the vows).
Ann: Right. Completely.  I really enjoyed her. Another well done guest character.
Sarah:  Agreed. Another figure in history who had little power, but used what power she had to her advantage.
Ann: She was interesting and unexpected. Smart and fleshed out.
Sarah: And of course was vilified for it.
Ann:  Nothing more condemnable than being a smart woman, Sarah!
Sarah:  Surely not!
Kate:  When Lucy talks about her fate my heart just ached. But it is nice that she gets a sort of character defense in the show decades after her death.
Sarah:  And even Rufus echoes that he thought she had it all together...to which Wyatt, revealing more of his depth, replies that no one has it all together. I do think as a team they started to understand each other more.
Kate:  Agreed. Every episode brings them closer together, in spite of any disagreement about the fabric of history and how best to protect it.
Ann: It's a big reason why I love this show. It's character driven, but the growth also feels organic.
Sarah:  Wyatt has a moment of rebellion, but ultimately is starting to see that his bullheadedness might not always be best course of action.
Kate: I will take one moment to whine about the fact that the group Sinatra led was not the Rat Pack, but The Summit (or The Clan). Humphrey Bogart led a group with Lauren Bacall, Shirley MacLain and others including Sinatra who were the Rat Pack. Moment over. I feel better.
We cannot not talk about the chisel jawed, angsty eyed Garcia in all his anti-hero glory.
Sarah: Garcia.
Kate: The shallowest parts of me relish a good fight between him and Wyatt.
Sarah: Garcia - further complicating my feelings for him...WHY DO YOU NEED THE CORE OF A NUCLEAR WEAPON.
Kate: WHY NOT, SARAH.
Sarah: Fair. Point.
Kate: Some men see things as they are and ask why. Some men dream of nuclear weapons in timelines that never were and ask why not. -a little RFK, a little Garcia, a little Kate.
It does make you wonder though. Just how damn bad is this Rittenhouse that Garcia is looking for nukes to take them on.
Sarah: Right? That cannot be a good sign. They're also terrible enough that Anthony has given up his life and family to help Garcia in his pursuit and destruction of them. And Anthony is clearly someone Rufus highly regarded
Kate: As Rufus says, Anthony's family is everything to him. So yes. The Rittenhouse plot thickens.
And I am not convinced Noah the pop-up surprise fiancé is not one of them.
Ann: He is definitely one of them. No one is that handsome without an agenda.
Kate: Exactly, Annie.
Ann: See: Wyatt and Garcia.
Sarah: Amen, Annie.
Kate: Hallelujah.
Sarah: I think that this episode was really a stepping stone - working mostly to build the relationship for our time team, and also to raise the stakes for the rest of the season.
Kate: Completely agreed.
Sarah: Rittenhouse isn't small potatoes. It's large, radioactive potatoes.
Kate: Potatoes that glow in the dark, so fun times.
Ann: It was also another great step for the team to become more invested in one another. That ALSO ups the stakes, if not in a different way. We're slowly not just people sitting together in a time machine, being the various pieces to this puzzle. We are almost friends.
Kate: Final thoughts? Important takeaways besides Rittnehouse potatoes?I have one. Seat belt. Third episode in a row. Chills.
Ann: It's really rude.
Sarah: Wyatt is a nerd who can outline the plot of Back to the Future II. Lucy will not stand to be manhandled or have others manhandled. Rufus will fight for his friends - and that includes Wyatt and Lucy - to the bitter end.
And also seat belt.
Kate: Raise your hand if you have been personally victimized by the seatbelt.
Sarah: Casual fricking seat belt. Wink included.
Ann: *raises hand*
Mine is that once again, in 43 short minutes, I become way too invested in a character of the week. How is this show so good at that??
Sarah: Too. Good.
Ann: I was literally Tyra Banks. I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU!
Kate: I have no idea, but it happens, week in, week out.
Sarah: Maybe they can have a Guest Character Convention.
Kate: YES PLEASE.
Sarah: Where they're all just awesome and drinking cocktails together.
Kate: I would throw money at all the people to be invited to that party.
Ann: Same. All four of my dollars.
Kate: And next episode we get the irrepressible Ian Fleming. Which. EXCITE.
Sarah: Well, we have a long journey from Sin City to the Third Reich, so perhaps we shall rest. Sleep tight, ladies. Don't let the uranium bite.
Kate: We shall. So we can properly get ourselves worked up all over again. Until next time.

A 'Villain' is Born! #Gotham S3 Ep15 "How the Riddler Got His Name" Spoilers, Recap, & Review
Great, green garment, Batman! Gotham has returned after a long, long hiatus, much to the delight of fans of the show. Even the title alone is sure to catch anyone’s attention: ‘How the Riddler Got His Name’. Along with the title of the spring premiere of season 3, you might catch something else: The original tagline for the first part of season 3 was Mad City, aptly named after the Mad Hatter himself, Jervis Tetch, played with a somewhat perverted view of childlike innocence that the villain is mostly known for by the Australian actor Benedict Samuel. However, the tagline has changed into Heroes Rise. Now, it’s no secret that I myself tend to lean towards the villains, but we have seen many badass bad guys grow and thrive in the city of Gotham, but now it’s time to see just what our heroes will do to combat said villainy. Remember: a good villain inspires change. A villain acts. Heroes react.
Well, to use a cheesy line, the episode started out (literally) with a BANG! We first see a professor in his laboratory. Now, why should we care about this guy? Because Edward Nygma does, that’s why! (Played by Corey Michael Smith) He manages to tie up the professor and what does Ed do? Ask the poor egghead riddle after riddle. Unfortunately, the professor was not smart enough to match I.Q.’s with Edward. Nygma becomes enraged and almost saddened by each wrong answer to his riddles, until Edward basically smart shames the professor and then, well…… BOOM! You may be asking “Why would he do that? What’s his plan?” Calm down, and I’m going to get to that; I’m just giving you a spoiler recap for starters.
Speaking of villainy, we also see our favorite group that works in the shadows, the Court of Owls. You remember Bruce Wayne’s clone? (Played by David Mazouz) Well, guess what? The Court has been training him to become the perfect imposter of our hero Bruce. We see that Kathryn (played by Leslie Hendrix) declare that the clone’s training is complete. We also see a new character, Frank (played by James Remar), who turns out to be Jim Gordon’s uncle. Yeesh. Talk about a family history; Jim’s father was a decorated veteran and cop, and now we see that Jim’s uncle has been a member of the Court for who knows how long? Apparently, Kathryn wants Frank to reach out to Jim and ask him to join the Court. But if he can’t convince him….. use your imagination.
Back to Edward, still living in Dahl Manor, we see that he has been losing sleep and he has been taking pills. What kind of pills? My best guess is some form of the hallucinogenic drug. Why? The audience has seen, throughout the seasons that Edward does tend to see hallucinations, much to Ed’s chagrin. This time he’s taking pills to see visions whenever he needs to. And who he might be seeing in his head? Why, his ex-best friend, Oswald Cobblepot. (Played by Robin Lord Taylor) Yeah, it turns out that Edward is still in need of guidance to become more of who he is; more of a villain (his words, not mine). In Edward’s mind, Oswald is soaking wet, has a crab or two crawling on him, and is covered in scum. That would make sense, because the last time those two saw each other, Edward shot Oswald point-blank and pushed him into the cold waters by the docks. Literally, most things in Gotham go down at the docks. So Edward imagines his dead partner and summons him whenever he needs someone to talk to or some guidance. It would be more heartfelt if Edward’s mentality weren't deteriorating before our eyes. What Edward wants now in his life is to feel whole, complete, to figure out just who he really is. Nygma’s conclusion to that answer is to find the brightest minds in Gotham and see who can match his own intellect. To each their own, and all that. Mirage Oswald keeps fighting him on every step, saying that the way he’s going about this in a completely stupid way. Then Edward gets an idea for another contestant: Jim Gordon (Played by Ben McKenzie). Now, I like Jim, I really do, but come on. He is intelligent and strong in his own right, but I don’t think he would last a few rounds with Edward Nygma.
Edward sends a singing telegram to the GCPD, where Captain Harvey Bullock (Played by Donal Logue) is still cleaning up from the big hoopla that was left in Jerome Valeska’s wake. Lucius Fox (Played by Chris Chalk) informs Bullock about recent killings that have been going on in the city as of late. He takes note that each victim is either artistic or very intellectual. Fox is interrupted by the singing mentioned above telegram, telling them about the next possible victim. The card, of course, has a puzzle on it. The puzzle turns out to be a location: a chess tournament. Of course, Lucius Fox figures it out in less than a minute, and he, Harvey, and other cops from the precinct are on the move.
If you’re wondering about Jim, don’t worry. He’s just taking some time off to go on a hunting trip with his estranged uncle Frank. What could go wrong?
At the chess tournament, we notice that Edward Hazen overlooking view of the event.  Again, he summons Oswald.  Edward’s attitude towards his hallucination of Oswald is not necessarily bitter.  That may seem strange, give in their last encounter, but we see that Edward does not hold much malice towards Oswald.  In fact he still regards him as his best friend.  Of course there is tension, but Edward does not really care for that at the moment.  However the hallucination of Oswald is still fighting Edward at every step in turn that he makes.  Edward even thanks Oswald for coming, to which Oswald replied that he did not have much of a choice.  Edward is not too surprised when he sees the GCPD come in, but he is surprised to see Lucius Fox.  You could consider it a delightful surprise.  Ed activates an electrical device that is rigged to every chessboard in the building.  No one is safe for the then move or not.  But that does not matter, Edward has found his intellectual match.  Lucius Fox.  And he is already solved another riddle, a phone number leading to the person responsible.  Edward Nygma.  The phone call consisted of another riddle.  Which leads Lucius to a grim answer: the belly of the beast.  Which literally means that he had to cut into the belly of one of Edward’s victims for his next clue…..ew.
We take a minute to focus on Bruce and Alfred (played by Sean Pertwee) as they continue their training.  Knife throwing training, which is freaking awesome in my book.  But Bruce is clearly distracted in it interferes with his training.  Alfred calls him on it, and what is on his mind is Selina Kyle (played by Camren Bicondova).  Long story short: Selina’s mom turned out to be a garbage human and Bruce kind of knew about it, but did not tell her.  They had kind of a messy breakup.  Bruce tells Alfred that he received a note in the mail recently from Selina asking him to meet up with her.  Bruce knows that his training is really important, especially after what happened with Jerome, but he can’t get her out of his head.  So Alfred suggests that he takes her up on her note.
While Bruce is wandering the city, he comes across Sonny Gilzean and a bunch of his thugs.  They start messing with him until Selina arrives.  As it turns out, she did not send that note to Bruce.  And then she storms away. Sonny and his guys start beating up Bruce at first, but the rejection from Selina seemed to take its toll on him and he fought back, and kicked major ass, I might say.  As he turns to go back home, he encounters his clone, who drugs him unconscious as he plans to take his place.
We go back to Bullock, who is speaking at the police officer’s graduation ceremony. Until, uh-oh, Edward shows up and knocks him out.  All the while, Mirage Oswald insists that there is no Edward without him.  Edward admits some truth about that statement, but he will find something new in something better to replace Oswald with in his heart.
We see Lucius and Lee (played by Morena Baccarin) examining a dead body, cutting open his stomach, to reveal a police badge.  That match belongs to Harvey.  Lucius knows where Harvey is and he immediately leaves for the ceremony. To the young cadet’s remorse, Edward replaces Harvey as speaker.  He throws a grenade into the crowd, but not before giving a riddle.
Lucius finally meets up with Edward who has Harvey tide up in a chair which is suspended over a stairway. Edward gives Lucius three chances, three riddles, to save Harvey.  Fox gets the first two riddles wrong, but the last one he got absolutely right. Lucius also finds out that Edward killed Oswald Cobblepot, their mayor. But, we get a thumbs up from Edward while still making Harvey fall to his death.  Lucius manages to catch him in time, only to find that the green suited man was gone.
On Jim Gordon’s end, he and his uncle have a long talk.  Franks says that he came back to Gotham to patch things up. Then he comes clean about the Court of Owls, and how they are a secret organization that really pull the strings in Gotham.  He reveals that he and Jim’s father were members of the Court and that that originally wanted him to join as well. But Jim’s father saw how much of a threat they were to the city and try to fight back.  Frank reveals that the Court had set up a car accident that would cause Jim’s father his death.  French had to prove his loyalty, so the Court sent in a way for years to an unknown location. Jim is of course, outraged by this and is unsure whether or not to believe his uncle.
After saving Harvey, he, and some GCPD members go out and try to find Edward in the Dahl Manor.  The only thing that they find is a portrait of the mayor with a big, bright, green question mark on its face.
 After a long day, we see Lucius get into his car.  Edward was waiting for him in the back seat with a gun.  Instead of completely submitting to the threat, to Lucius psychoanalyzes Edward.  He sees that everything that Edward has done is some sort of act and he questions him about it.  Nygma states that he feels like there’s someone inside of him, someone that could be feared, and someone that could replace Oswald.  Lucius turns to Edward with a concern to look on his face and tells him that if there’s any part of him, that is still sane, he needs to get help.  Edward seemed shocked at first.  But he shakes it off and says…
“I am the Riddler!”
And he knocks Lucius unconscious.
We cut to inside a house filled with plants.  We see a bed with someone in it.  Hey, guys too, Oswald is ALIVE!!!!!!  To and apparently he was rescued by Ivy Pepper.  He wakes up and says one thing:
“I just remembered, there is someone I have to kill.”
The final moment that we see in the episode is Edward at the docks where he shot Oswald.  He has one final conversation with his hallucination.  To Oswald says that no one will ever be afraid of anyone called the ‘Riddler.'  Edwards says that he did a value their friendship, but now he will pull it Oswald behind him.  He dumps his pills into the water.  He stands up straight placing a bowler hat on his head.  The last thing that we see is a green suited man, Edward Nygma, no, the Riddler walk away.
Overall I did love the episode.  It was really nice to welcome Gotham to back on Monday nights.  It was so great seeing the characters come back and it was so great to see their next step or their journey in a pre-Batman Gotham. It does my heart good to see the actors bring more and more to the characters that we to all know and love to the table.
Things I liked:
Every single scene that Corey Michael Smith was in, he is now the Riddler, to and he loves every single minute of it. The Riddler is someone that a lot of us know even if we don’t read the comics.  He is flashy, showy, intelligent, incredibly vain, and absolutely arrogant.  Smith has already begun to take on to the Riddler, and already he is showing much potential, and he will certainly make his mark as the third person to ever be a live actor for the Riddler, and I can’t wait.
I always love me some Harvey Bullock. That should go without saying.
The relationship between Edward and Oswald as it continued seemingly after death.  The illusion of Oswald said to Edward that he really isn’t talking to the real person.  That he just imagined something that is already in his mind, but he just won’t face it.  It shows that Edward really did respect Oswald and that he did see him as a teacher for him.  Edward knew that he couldn’t just turn away from Oswald after he shot him.  He needed to figure out who he was without Oswald.  And the conclusions that Edward reached as he trudged through his epiphany was really enjoyable to see.
LUCIUS FOX, BABY!!!!!!!!  A lot of people know only about Alfred taking care of Bruce.  But Lucius Fox has just an important a role in Bruce’s life.  Sometimes I see Alfred as the bright side of Bruce’s brain, and Lucius is definitely the left side.  As a singular person, Lucius Fox is absolutely not one to be trifled with, especially when it comes to intelligence.

Epilogue
11:39 PM,
Tuesday,
18th November 1952,
Location: Unknown
“..Solomon Grundy..born on a Monday..christened on Tuesday..married on Wednesday..ill on Thursday..”
[Dragging sound]
The man was singing to himself as he was dragging a body part on the floor.
“..worse on Friday..died on Saturday..buried on Sunday..that was the end..of Solomon Grundy..”
He finally threw the arm on top of the heap of other body parts that was piled up on one side of the dark and dingy room.
“You know..I actually knew who Solomon Grundy was..or is..anyway..that's not even his real name..or at least not the name that I gave him..people can be so imaginative when it comes to doodling their tales and tunes..[Chuckling]..” said the man while staring at the bloody pile of mess in front of him.
“Nevertheless, he was one of the best that I ever came up with..the perfection..the immaculateness..flawless if I may say so myself..[Chuckling]...but that's the thing about perfection..it has a mind of its own..rules of their own..” The man then turn towards a nearby table.
“I wanted a perfection that will obey my every rule..fulfill my every desire..bend to my every will..it did just that..and more..until it realized that it no longer needs me..imagine that..just when I thought it would be impossible for them to do just that..” The look on his face changes.
“To think that it can come up with such a plan to outwit my safeguards..[Sighing]..funny thing actually..it was more “alive” than any other living person I ever met..imagine that..a dead one that was more alive than a living one..” He took a pause.
“..Oh well..bygones be bygones..not really a cause for concern at the moment...but enough about me..let's talk about you..Mr Salazar Hutchison..indeed..let's talk about you..”
The man then went towards the metallic table that he had been looking at since earlier. The only source of light was shining on the pale body that was laying on it.
“You...my friend..have definitely taken this to the next level..I mean who would have thought..[Laughing]..” said the man while looking at a wooden torso on the ground near the table.
“[Laughing]..Oh, the irony..such sweet, sweet irony..too much love can definitely kill I suppose..” continued the man.
“I..I'm not sure what to make of your situation..it's funny..weird..sad..tragic..I mean you came to me looking for a cure for your solitude..and now..here you are..” The man bends closer towards the body.
“What happened back there, Mr Hutchison? Oh wait..wait..don't tell me...I've lived long enough to make a very, very deductive guess about this sort of predicament..[Chuckling]..hmm..let's see..I bet you didn't even read the manual right? Because if you did..none of these would have happened..or at least that..” The man then turned towards the wooden torso again.
“That thing...over there...should have been..COMPLETED!..[Sighing]..Why do I even bother writing instructions?..I don't even need to!..It's very simple!..Complete your creation..put the damn pouch in..and chant the spell..just how hard is it to remember that!” He looked furious.
“Almost every single time..in any century..be it an apprentice..a customer..or even a nobody that just wanted to learn the arts just for the sake of learning it..have never failed to disappoint me with their own undoing..their own vanity..” He looks at the unfinished wooden creation before picking it up with both hands.
“If I have to guess..something spooked you before you can finish this thing..or should I say..your wife?” said the man while observing the intricacy of the incomplete life-sized doll up-close.
“Hmm..refined hinges..sockets..hmm..you do know how to make them look real..for a toymaker that is..too bad you didn't get very far..” The man then placed the torso on another nearby table.
“You were probably admiring your creation..looking at the progress that you've made so far..then out of the blue..you decided to take the pouch and have a preliminary fitting..” said the man while checking the back of the doll's head.
“Hmm..at the back of the mouth, huh?..I thought you might at least put it somewhere inside the body..” said the man while knocking on its torso.
“And then..I'd say..you pulled out the manual..read it..and for some reason..you either don't understand my handwriting or you just choose to deliberately be absent minded..” scoffed the man.
“And guess what?..I can't find the manual anywhere..so I'm just gonna guess that whoever broke into your house must have taken it..and you better hope that they don't know the true meaning of the words written on it..” The man took another pause.
“Now where was I..oh yeah..the manual..[Chuckling]..[Sighing]..Anyway...you then recited the spell or read it aloud unintentionally which was pretty much the same thing if you already put the thing in there..so..you..my friend..just resurrected your wife..pretty much in an incomplete body..while casting a spell that calls for completion..”
He started walking around the metallic table.
“All the possible unanticipated outcomes..the doll probably blinking its eyes..the body probably jerking uncontrollably..the head probably twisting in every direction..or maybe...it started talking to you in a ghostly voice..that probably scared the life out of you..so much so..that you dropped dead from it..[Laughing]..by the Lords of the Underworld..you sir..are the true definition of modern day irony..” His laughter resonated within the room.
[Clearing throat]
He then began to inspect the strings that were sticking out from every crevice of the doll's wooden torso.
“Hmm..interesting..these strings..I can sense some residual life force in them..oh yeah..of course..[Chuckling]..it seeks completion..and when it doesn't have that..it evolves towards it..who needs arms and legs when you got strings, right?” The man gave a sarcastic smile at Mr Hutchison's body.
The man then began to feel it while closing his eyes.
“Amazing..she actually channeled her life energy through these strings..and that’s probably how she was able to inject life into your other toys as well..that spider that got knifed..those creepy dolls with dresses..practically, extending her limbs..[Chuckling]..”
He then returned towards the metal table again before running his hand on Mr Hutchison's body.
“And the ability of those strings to preserve the bodies..fascinating..even their blood still runs red..but I suppose it didn't last very long outside the host...” His hand stopped at the chest.
“It's normal for a living thing to defend itself against danger and preserve their environment to the best they could..even if it means they have to clean up by wrapping their garbage in a web and sticking it to the walls and ceiling..” said the man while looking at the pile of body parts again.
“She saw every single one of them as a replacement for her missing parts but nevertheless, the essence of your wife was there..which was probably why she didn't attack you..” The man suddenly pulls the body's shirt apart, revealing a pale hairy chest.
“There's nothing I can do about the rest. I don't deal with damaged goods, trust me, it doesn't end well. But you..thanks to the preservation power of the strings..you are well preserved..”
The man then bit his thumb. Seconds later, a circle containing archaic symbols were drawn on the chest using his own blood. He then licks his thumb.
“Your work is far from over, Mr Hutchison. See, I never thought that it would work on an inanimate object but you have proven me wrong..partially wrong at least. So now..I'm going to give you a chance..to finish what you started. After all..I'm still waiting for that telegram that you promised..”
He slams his palm on the center of the chest before mumbling something.
“..necro..invictus..” said the man at the end of his incantation before leaning closer towards the face.
“Your work is not done yet..Mr Salazar Hutchison..if anything...it has only begun..”
The body remains motionless.
“Welcome back, Mr Hutchison..welcome back..”
He kept looking for any signs of life. Suddenly, the eyelids were opened.
[Loud gasping sound]
