CAS - service - Volunteering
On December 19th 2023, I left school early to volunteer at Socijalna samoposluga ‘Kruh sv. Elizabete’. On that day people in need; financially unstable, marginalized or even homeless people got their wishes fulfilled. Before the 19th they wrote down certain items such as canned food, clothes, toys, hygiene items which they were in need of the most, and then people who have these necessities bought the crucial items for the people in need.
These people were students, kids, families, parents, friends who know and understand how hard and lonely the holiday season can be. Winter consists of short, cold, sometimes even sunless days which for those in need creates even more problems. For us, privileged folk, winter is about family, friends, Christmas, love, unity, warmth, beautiful sparkly lights and rest. Most of the time we take this period for granted and never truly appreciate everything we have around us. This experience opened my eyes and showed me what Christmas is truly about; sharing, peace and love.
I came down to the Socijalna samoposluga at around 12 pm, I met with my dear mentor Elida which I know from my previous volunteering experiences, she introduced me to Jakov, another fellow teenager there to help and bring joy. The three of us got to work and made some sandwiches, filled cups with tea, juice and coffee and began sorting the presents. Another team of three volunteers came to drop off more presents which we then had to sort by numbers. We were all given simple tasks like organizing the names of the people in need next to their present. We all wore orange shirts with the ‘Socijalna samoposluga Kruh sv. Elizabete’ written on them.
Soon enough, people started arriving and we wished them a Merry Christmas with their gifts. The warm smiles on their faces almost made me tear up, I really enjoyed it, not because I myself felt great doing a good deed, but rather because these people were genuinely so happy and thankful for what they got. I was just the person handing them their wishes. A moment I will never forget was when two little girls walked in with their little brother still in diapers, mother and father. They got their gifts but the girls noticed a big box filled with toys - barbies, trucks, cars, stuffed animals, ponies etc. I quickly called them over and the three of us chose a bunch of toys for them to take home. The pure joy sparkling from their eyes really made me tear up. I remember when I was that little, if I had come across a big box filled with toys I would have acted the same. They got their barbies with fancy dresses and went home, hopefully with a big smile and full heart.
We chatted with the people, gave them coffee and hot tea while listening to Croatian Christmas music. We bonded and soon it was time to go home, I cleaned up a bit and thanked my fellow volunteers for the wonderful experience. I felt really good later that day and surprisingly had a very productive evening.
This day will always be engraved in my memory as another happy and successful winter day, but this specific day will be special, because I will always know the people that deserve the most support during this season, got what they needed.

sam's halloween costumes 2013-2020
certain things that i planned to post fell through, but luckily for me an anon asked "I feel like you'd be the one capable of doing this. Can you make a compilation separately of Sam and Colbys costumes over the years?" and since it fits right in with what i've been posting, i figured i would post this instead of what i was planning to post because not everything works in my favor, apparently lol
so now i present to you, sam's halloween costumes thru the years
(i might have missed one or two, but i'm pretty sure this is all of them)
also... i'm gonna rate them for shits and gigs lol
starting with 2013, sam dressed up as a greek/roman person. it was a couples costume with his girlfriend at the time.
Tumblr media
sam (as you will see) goes for couples costumes almost always. that's not really a problem, but i do have a sneaky suspicion that he doesn't really choose the costume and it's his gf that does it lol
rating: 2/5, kinda boring, not creative, but not the worst
2014 is the only year i couldn't find a single costume for him. if you know, feel free to let me know bc i couldn't find anything that told me what he dressed up as.
the next year, in 2015, sam and colby dressed up together, which is so cute and one of the few (if literally the only time) they were in a couples costume sksks
they were mario and luigi
Tumblr media
i think it's fucking hilarious that the suspenders are just black tape on their shirt. also... mario and luigi don't have suspenders??? they wear overalls.
rating: 2/5, kinda dumb, but the black tape is funny enough to keep this from being a one lmao
in 2016, i couldn't really find an actual costume that he wore, but i did find this screenshot from some video wear he rewore the mario costume
Tumblr media
i'm like 99% sure that he's wearing a red shirt turned inside out with black tape overtop again..
rating: 0/5, his face explains it all
for halloween in 2017, technically sam and colby weren't in the country (they were in egypt with elton on a tfil trip) but sam and kat were finally a couple so you know what that means.... sam doesn't have to decide what to wear lmao
they dressed up as nerds before halloween
Tumblr media
the costumes are really cute, obviously just bits and pieces that they both owned and probably bought from party city and honestly, i sometimes like a simple costume.
rating: 3.5/5, adorable, and sam hasn't worn that hat in a long time
2018 was the first time that sam had two different costumes, both of which i thoroughly enjoyed. and again, i just have a feeling that sam didn't come up with neither one. but that doesn't matter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
peter pan and tinkerbell is adorable. personally i would have went with peter pan and wendy but nonetheless it was cute. and then barbie and ken is a cute idea, but you can tell it was a last minute costume since they aren't a specific barbie and ken. i also feel like they could have based their outfits more off of each other and did more makeup or hair. just something else that would have made it more special.
peter pan and tink rating: 4/5
barbie and ken rating: 3/5
2019 also had two costumes. and again, it's kinda the same deal as the previous year: one costume is more thought through while the other is a last minute one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
at least this year he had actual suspenders...
the corpse bride costume is fucking awesome, and it's only that good bc he's in a suit (bc every man looks hot in a suit) and the makeup !!! idk who did it, but props to whoever it was. the fireman costume... it's fine. not my fave tho.
corpse bride rating: 5/5
fireman/woman rating: 2/5
and then in 2020, they repeated themselves again: one great and one mediocre costume lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the beauty and beast costume is so adorable, and sam dressing up as a prince is something i need more in my life. i kinda wish kat's dress was an actual dress, but beggers can't be choosers i guess.
and the second costume... is barely a costume. sam is wearing his regular clothes with the jacket from love for hire (rip). and kat's cheerleading costume is cute... kinda boring tho.
beauty and the beast: 4/5
cheerleader and jock: 1.5/5
overall, sam only succeeds at wearing the costumes his gf puts in front of him. i would love for him to have his own separate costume one year. he can still dress up with kat in a couple costume, but have a different one to just post in or go to a party in. also, while i get the lazier costumes are for parties... you can still be interest with a simple costume. the nerds one is proof. that one is interesting. the others are just either really generic or too simple that they look like clothes.

The Women of Euphoria and Personal Style: Lookbook no.8
Tumblr media
Hi to anyone reading,
I hope you’re well considering everything going on! It feels weird to want to talk about fashion or TV shows or red carpets or whatever when 90% of my Google searches are COVID-19 related but there you go. It’s all about trying to power through as normal (minus the social interaction) and pretend the world isn’t ending, right? Queue nervous laughter.
And as if things aren't shitty enough, production of season 2 of Euphoria has been postponed until further notice.
Okay, in the grand scheme of things, having to wait a bit longer for a TV show isn’t catastrophic but it does just about sum up the transition from 2019 to 2020 thus far that after HBO redeemed itself by broadcasting Euphoria in the summer following an ending to Game of Thrones that has made the whole series unrewatchable, the glimmer of hope in me reignited by the prospect of series 2 this year has been quickly dashed. 2021, I’m rooting for you, because it doesn’t seem like things are getting better any time soon, and in all seriousness, I think everyone needs a break from the collective suffering of the last few months.
For me (and undoubtedly for many others if the hundreds of makeup looks and styling videos are anything to go by), Euphoria’s effect on the world of fashion and beauty is unprecedented. I really can’t recall a TV show in living memory that has had as much of an impact on the way young people dress. I mean, this might partially be because the style of the characters already kind of caters to and draws from the target audience but also, aside from Blair Waldorf did anybody really give THAT much of a fuck about what anybody in Gossip Girl wore?
The draw of the styling on Euphoria is that it has something for everyone. The style of each of the main girls, Rue, Kat, Maddy, Jules and Cassie, all of whom I’ve attempted (emphasis on attempted!) to base (emphasis on base!) outfits around, is varied and distinctive but still so current and realistic at the same time. It’s also consistent; even if you don’t own the specific pieces worn by any of them, similar shapes and details reoccur enough in different looks throughout the series that it’s not hard to create an outfit which matches your favourite character’s overall vibe without buying anything new. That’s kinda what I have attempted to do here and without further ado, I’m gonna get on with it! First up:
Jules (Played by Hunter Schafer)
When it comes to whose style is the most experimental, Jules is the obvious answer. A lot of her outfits are what I imagine a cartoonist in the near-distant future will envision their cool girl protagonist wearing. Whilst her ensembles are generally whimsical and girly for the most part, there’s usually a few slightly punk-ish finishing touches thrown in there too be it through chunky shoes or bold makeup or that incredible mesh trench coat she wears in the series finale with the trans symbol on the back which, honestly, deserves a moment of silence.
Tumblr media
There are definitely nods to current fashion trends sprinkled throughout her wardrobe too. I'm not going to lie, despite someone at work seemingly thinking it was an insult to tell me I look like someone who does (I still don’t know but this person has a Rick and Morty keyring so I don’t give it too much weight), I’ve never watched any anime. BUT, that being said, given the abundance of anime screenshots posted by all these aesthetic oriented Instagram and Tumblr moodboard accounts, I have a vague idea of what some of the more iconic characters look like and a lot of Jules’ looks seem to be very much modelled after or at least inspired by them. In a way, I see a lot of her looks as a blend between modern “e-girl”, Y2K skater chick (yes, I’m thinking early Avril Lavigne), and 2013 Tumblr “hipster” a la 2014 Joanna Kutcha and Charlie Barker, and though on paper that sounds like a nightmare combination, it works. I know-if that sentence were a Depop description I would’ve just gained 30 followers.
Tumblr media
When it comes to my own interpretation of Jules’ style, it’s definitely something I like to channel when I’m putting together a proper OUTFIT outfit. Meaning an outfit I actually put effort into and thus will most likely want to get a good photo in, lol. The way her character dresses is almost quite Christopher Kane in that it’s fresh and unusual but still understated enough that I wouldn’t walk into a room wearing any of these feeling like I’m doing a Rick Owens runway.
Tumblr media
I’m not TOO far out of my comfort zone but still at the same time, I’d be trying something new and maybe a little bit more zany than I'm used to. As for noting where any of these pieces are from, only a few have been bought in the last 6 months, but from left to right clockwise I have marked out those that have in case they’re still available (though be wary of the fact that it seems a lot of online clothes stores are still forcing warehouse employees to work in close confines at the moment and so perhaps aren’t operating the most ethically):

Kat (Played by Barbie Ferreira)
Tumblr media
Eurgh, Kat.
I LOVE THIS BITCH.
If I had to choose my favourite character in the show, it would be a very close toss-up between her and Rue, and though I think Rue might just about nab the top spot for her relatability factor, Kat is the girl I want to be or wish that I had been when I was at school. I mean, there’s definitely an argument to be made in that a lot of what she’s doing with her cam work could be seen as a means of validation (Sam Levinson has basically said everyone on the show has some kind of an unhealthy coping mechanism and I would guess due to the circumstances in which her cam girl career was borne and the fact she’s underage, this would be hers) but I do think in other ways we really see Kat reclaim her power and recognise herself for the smart, capable, gorgeous woman that she is. Honestly, the definition of divine feminine energy, and I would completely let Barbie Ferreira/basically Kat if she was also actually 23 dominate me.
Plus! Her! Style! Is! The! Bomb! Definitely the easiest character to base looks around because if I’m totally honest Kat’s energy is pretty much just what I want to emulate in every day life.
Tumblr media
It’s either pieces that are typically feminine, cutesy, and even slightly preppy at times drenched in everything grunge OR vice versa where you have something semi-gothic and then add a colourful, more playful touch in there that harks back to the beginning of the series before Kat had began to explore her identity and sexuality and dressed slightly more Forever 21.
Tumblr media
I’d say, not yet with my whole chest, that on a good day the outfits I put together when making an effort aren’t too far off something Kat would wear, minus the more overtly BDSM touches; if wearing a ring choker in London is enough to get me a creepy comment from a gross middle aged shopkeeper (because I apparently forfeited my right not to be perved on when I decided to buy a bottle of Oasis summer fruits), then you can only imagine the kind of looks wearing a full-on harness would get in my conservative OAP dominated hometown. Not the most doable right now, especially considering the only time I get out is to work and to go for a run. The chafing I could deal with but the horrified glares of pensioners whose M&S prawn mayo sandwiches I’ve ruined by simply being in their eyesight not so much.

Maddy (Played by Alexa Demie)
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, I was kind of scared to do Maddy. I’m scared to be posting this, lol! Alexa Demie has played this character for a single season and she’s already one of the most iconic women to grace our screens in years. This is a huge undertaking and I don’t have the bank balance or the body confidence (lmao) to raid IAmGia.
And this is where I want to stress: THESE ARE NOT OUTFIT RECREATIONS. THESE ARE INSPIRED BY. I HAVE ADDED ELEMENTS OF MY OWN STYLE INTO THEM. PLEASE DON’T DRAG ME. I KNOW, I’M NOT ALEXA DEMIE. I WOULD NEVER ASSUME TO BE ALEXA DEMIE. I’M NOT ABOUT TO TAKE THE LORD’S NAME IN VAIN LIKE THAT. So now we’ve got that out the way (wipes bead of sweat off forehead), let’s continue.
Everything about Maddy Perez is extra. She has very much been established as a centre of attention character, and her outfits are a key part of that. They’re daring, they’re hyper-feminine, and they are always glamorous. We’re told that she competed in beauty pageants when she was younger and it’s clear that level of excess and coordination and glitz and all-round-boujeeness wormed its way into her DNA during that time. Even the “depression” outfit she wears to school following Nate becoming violent at the fair is costume-like, a 2019 Bratz doll Off-White street style collaboration.
Tumblr media
Do you know how HARD I had to try to be HOT!? For these photos. Alexa Demie is one of those blessed women who doesn’t have to try at all, and that translates into the character completely. At any given moment, Maddy could add or remove one item or clothing and be let straight into the VIP section of a club, and that, honestly, is inspiring to us all in these dark times.
Tumblr media
One thing I tried to keep in mind is that she always looks polished and coordinated, I.E the kind of look I would prepare for a night out is something Maddy would wear on an average day. Co-ords and delicate prints seem to be more subtle wardrobe staples along with mesh and PVC and glitter and feathers and fur and basically anything that toes the line between expensive looking and tacky. Yes, I am aware we may toe different sides of that line but please let me stay delusional and believe that’s not the case for 5 minutes. Much appreciated xoxo

Rue (Played by Zendaya Coleman)
Tumblr media
I have a complicated relationship with Rue as a character. When I started season 1 of Euphoria, I was like “Oh my god, this girl is the worst. Jesus, she’s so negative and draining and willingly self-destructive and-”
Then, oh my god is this what it’s like to live with me!?
I will say, to my own credit, that I don’t think I've ever been quite as hard to deal with as Rue (a lot less smashing stuff up and a lot more moping), and to HER credit, by the end of the season we come to realise she’s been through a fucking lot and so it makes sense, but wow. I don’t think I have ever seen a teen show handle drug abuse and mental illness in such a brutal way. It’s quite a talent to be able to show a character cause so much pain to those closest to them and yet do so through a sympathetic lens. And issues aside, whether it’s her occasional social awkwardness or her relationship with her family or watching bloody Love Island (still quite surreal to see Zendaya Coleman witnessing the Amy/Curtis drama unfold), Rue is just my favourite character to follow.
Her style, though. AH. The thing is, I can hardly drag it, because it’s pretty much what I wear when I’m moping about the house-or just any time I can get away with it to be honest-to a T. I want to stay true to character, but that being said, creating a “Seth Rogen”-esque outfit that’s worth posting on here is difficult. So, with the same kind of artistic license that had me wearing berets whilst cosplaying Maddy Perez, here is the best I could do:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know, I know, it’s probably too much colour and jewellery for Rue but this is as toned down as I could do and I tried to stick with the key silhouettes we see from her throughout the season; I mean, I can’t see her wearing leopard print but the structure of the coat in outfit 1 is very similar to the one seen in Shook Ones pt.II. I think the bottom line when it comes to her character is keeping things effortless and not overly-feminine; you want to mix street style, athleisure and your dad’s wardrobe favourites like your life depends on it. Plus messy hair and smudged makeup, both of which I’ve already got down according to the completely inappropriate number of customers who’ve asked if I'm tired at work so thanks for that guys, and glitter tears. Lots and lots of glitter tears.

Cassie (Played by Sydney Sweeney)
Tumblr media
Style-wise, Cassie is a hard one. When putting outfits for her character together, I found myself gravitating towards a direction that’s probably a bit too bohemian for her character, under the guidance of loose terms like “girl-next-door”, “floaty”, “delicate”, you get the idea. She definitely feels the least fully-realised in terms of all the main girls and I think it’s fair to say she’s probably got a bit of self-discovery to do. Most of her storylines in the season are dictated by her relationships to other people: McKay, Maddy, Lexie, her parents and so on.
Nevertheless, I tried to stick to the airier, more traditionally “pretty” pieces whilst still channelling the confidence and ease with which Cassie pulls them off. Sydney Sweeney has the most incredible figure and I feel like whilst the clothes the on-set stylists put her in flatter that and don’t hide anything, they’re still the focus. It doesn’t feel like there’s anything more inherently sexual about her character than any of the other main female characters despite the way the men within the narrative view her, and I think it’s a testament to the the wardrobe department that to me she still gives off big modern Disney princess energy and a certain innocence even whilst we hear her being continuously sexualised by her male peers.
Tumblr media
If anything, Cassie probably dresses the most like an actual teenage girl, and her style, whilst less distinctive than the other girls, still does a good job of capturing the youth and romanticism of her character.
Tumblr media
The colour palette of her wardrobe tends to be quite neutral, with a couple of pastels thrown in there, and if there are any details, they’re usually quite dainty. Similarly, Cassie is probably the least experimental when it comes to her makeup; we don’t really see her wearing the bold eyeshadows or liners or gems like the other girls at any point.

SO, I guess that’s it for my Euphoria lookbook! As always, let me know what you think (nicely pls, my ego is fragile lol) and I’d love to hear your opinions on the show too! I really haven’t got this excited over a new TV show in ages and I just think that it does everything so excellently-from the writing to the cinematography to the soundtrack, you can tell each element is so carefully and purposefully constructed. It immerses you into the dramatic highs and lows of being a teenager in a way I haven’t seen since UK Skins and I never thought I’d watch a show which held a candle to that.
In terms of what I’m doing next, I’ve got a very delayed fashion week masterpost in the works as well as something to fill the Met Gala shaped hole in our lives, which I hope to get up over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, if you read to the end, THANK YOU! And I hope you’re staying safe and AT HOME where possible. I know this self-isolation feels never-ending and if I’m honest, it is having a hugely negative effect on my mental health, but NHS staff are doing their very best with the shitty recourses they have and whilst it seems that our government have thrown workers under the bus once again, we can all do our bit to combat that by slowing the spread of the virus. Also thank you to anybody who’s out working now in such a scary and uncertain time! I work at a grocery store and can say from experience that the best way to show this thanks is just through kindness and following employee’s instructions without giving them grief for it. Everyone’s scared right now and the best we can do is pull together and look out for each other, as difficult as that might seem at times.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble, and like I said, stay safe! Thanks once again if you read til the end or even if you’re just here for the photos. Appreciate it more than you know either way!

Hello guys, I am a first-time customizer and I just finished my first customized doll. I think as a beginner, I did a lot of advanced stuff because  I wanted this doll to be perfect. I made her as a gift for my professor, and I wanted to make sure that this doll was as perfect as possible.
I was really hesitant about all of this because I wasn’t sure if I was talented enough to customize a doll. I mean, I’ve been perfecting my digital art for almost eight years, but I didn’t think that would reflect onto a completely different medium. However, I beat the odds and perfected her.
Tumblr media
Luzvimindas is a cartoon character I developed for a movie idea I had about Filipino culture. This movie idea was very important to me. I shared it with my professor because she was a Filipina as well and she taught Filipino-American issues. I shared my script with her and she was estatic!
Her appearance is derived from a serious of different cultures across the Philippines. Since she is the personification of the country, I wanted to make sure that her appearance was not affiliated with a specific tribe. Rather I designed her outfit based on a variety of different elements of tribes.
For people curious about all the tribes of the Philippines, I suggest visiting this link from LinkedIn about the various types of indigenous Filipinos.
https://www.slideshare.net/PennVillanueva/indigenous-peoples-of-the-philippines
Tumblr media
She has very strong Maranao influences as seen by her cropped-shoulder dress and long-talon nails. In the Philippines, there is a dance called “pangalay” that is performed by “jangaay” dancers. These dancers are women who adorn their hands with long finger jewelry and most of the performance derives from the playful motion of their arms and wrists.
Tumblr media
I made her shirt cropped, because I wanted to show off her indigenous Filipino tattoos, reminiscent of the Visayan regions such as Cebu, the first island of the Philippines encounter by Ferdinand Magellan. That is also why their is a slit to show of her left on her sarong.
Tumblr media
A lot of Filipinos, especially down south wore lots of gold. It was very common for Filipinos to wear gold accessories before it was seized under Spanish colonization. She has golden-hoop bracelets on her wrists and ankles. Her outfit has gold trimming, but I chose not to put that on the doll to prevent myself from making a mess with gold paint.
Tumblr media
For her headdress, I was inspired by the Igorot tribe of Luzon, but also wanted it to match with the rest of her color scheme. I also added a gold Filipino star in the middle to make it painfully obvious she was Filipina. I also gave her basic disc earrings and a jewel necklace also similar to the star.
Tumblr media
Luzvimindas was made using a combination of different materials. Her head mold came from a blue-dressed wonder woman I found at a discount on Mercari. The doll had a stain on its brown from the gel in the doll’s hair, so I removed that along with her factory paint with acetone. I had so much fun, wiping her clean, and removing the remaining hairs with a tweezer.
Tumblr media
As for the rest of her, by the time this doll was completed, she was pretty much three dolls put together. When I bought her, I wanted Luzvimindas to kneel, because I thought that would be the most natural way of posing her without having to use a stand. Little did I know that her knees only bend at 90 degree angles. For a little while, I tried forcing her legs to pose at a kneel, but it wasn’t working. So I went back to Mercari and purchased Antiope’s legs from a friendly seller.
Tumblr media
I had to go through the trouble of drilling out that plastic bit inside the doll’s hip and tying an elastic band back into the doll’s body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was pretty fun, and I was happy because she could finally kneel. But the problem know was that Queen Antiope and Wonder Woman 2018 dolls have different body-types. I did not know that the Wonder Woman movie dolls used a “fit-barbie” body type and that it was different from the kinds of bodies they used for the more higher-quality dolls for the movie’s release.
Tumblr media
Because of the difference in size of the thighs, you could see inside the hip. Since this was a gift to my professor, I thought this was unacceptable. I didn’t have any epoxy sculpt. I was going to buy some, but then I realized how expensive that would probably be. I was doing a polymer clay project the previous year and had various materials I never used. I hade this black premo sculpey that was supposed to be hair for my figurine, but I never used it because it was so hard to knead. But since I didn’t want to spend so much money on epoxy, I struggled my way into forming the hips until they were similar enough to a fit barbie’s figure.
Tumblr media
Since they don’t air dry, I picked up a method for baking polymer clay without using a baking-oven. I dumped the doll it boiling hot water for 3-4 minutes and it got the job done. However, it backfired and the left side of her body encaved into itself. I was wondering why this happened.
Tumblr media
Apparently, if you boil a doll in hot water, you can get a nice corset figure. Unfortunately, this accident didn’t reap me any benefits and I had to dispose this body and buy a new doll from a WWE Diva of a similar skintone to Wonder Woman’s and place the legs on that new body.
Tumblr media
This new body had articulated wrists, which was a MAJOR plus for me. I picked up the dye methods from people DollMotion to color change my doll so I didn’t have to deal with painting her. Unfortunately, it only made her joints brown, and I was left with a monster high doll. Oh well...
Tumblr media
I picked up a method from Hextian’s video for his Jessica Rabbit Vladonna doll and mixed modge podge with a reddish brown and yellowish orange to get her to become the correct color.
https://youtu.be/KwbTd-oiw0k?t=109
Tumblr media
When it came time to reroot her it was a major mess. I never dealt with a rerooting tool nor fake hair before and I didn’t completely understand how rerooting worked. I stuffed my rerooting with thick strands of hair, and whenever I punched it into the existing holes, it would fall immediately out.
Tumblr media
I got really frustrated and boiled wash the hank of hair, which resulted in it becoming incredibly frizzy and difficult to work with. I had to comb it several times in order for it to become even again.
Tumblr media
After she dried, I made her a Filipino flag and placed her head back to her body. I thought it was really cute.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the shoulders kept scudding, and it would constantly reveal her true skincolor by peeling off the paint. I couldn’t accept this, especially as a gift. I took my dremel tool and exacto knives and started shaving her shoulders. I was okay with this, because Luzvimindas isn’t a wrestler.
Tumblr media
I had to remove all the paint and paint around her body, because it started to chip. Apparently my formula wasn’t strong enough for the entire body. In the end it still chipped only a bit, but not to a point that it was unacceptable.
Tumblr media
This was when I started MSC’ing her and worked on her tattoos. I worked at one side at a time to create as much symmetry as possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the end, I thought she was beautiful.
Consequently, the MSC she took made it difficult to do her faceup.
Tumblr media
At first, I thought I had the crappiest watercolor pencils in the world.
Tumblr media
Then I had to remove her head from her body again, which actually created even more problems. I tried using a sharpie to draw her eyes, but I knew by looking at her that this was just unacceptable.
Tumblr media
I wiped off her face entirely and placed it back onto her body to start working on her dress. I found these fabrics that were very close to the doll’s actual patterns, and used them to make her dress. I trried using a sewing machine, but it would constantly eat up the materials, so I had to do everything manually. I bought a pattern DGRequiem for an off-shoulder tunic and modified it slightly to fit the needs of the character.
https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1619681023
I made the sleeves look more like bells, and I extended the back fabric to fit her large muscle body. I then took an orange string and started tying it around her waist to conform it to the shape of her body.
I wrapped cloth around her waist and secured it with an elastic to create her slit sarong. It is very difficult to take of and put on, because of the size of her hips versus the size of her waist. Fortunately, due to the elastics that connect her legs to her hips, I was able to pull her legs downward to give the sarong more room as it went up her legs.
Tumblr media
I then wrapped her body in a zip-lock bag and used scrap fabric to protect her hair. I painted the face to match her skin and then MSC’d her again. This time it worked and for a while the watercolor pencils gave her a face. But after a while, they still weren’t opaque enough.
Tumblr media
I then used small tubes of oil acrylic to paint the rest of her face. I added fake eyelashes and glossed her eyes and lips with modge podge.
Tumblr media
This was before I added her final accessories. I made her headdress by an orange ribbon I found at Walmart, tied it, and pinned it to her head. Then I hot glued feathers that I dusted with various pastels to match her artwork. The bracelets were made from rings made for ear piercings at Hobby Lobby. The rest of her jewelry came from a local 3D print shop.
Tumblr media
I painted them gold. Hot glued the star to her headdress. I hot glued the pendant to her necklace chain also made from more jewelry. I hot glued a gem onto her pendant. I pierced a hole through the earrings, hot glued them with pins, and inserted them into her ears.
Tumblr media
And that’s how I made Luzvimindas, my indigenous Filipina Baybalan and beholder of the Bayanihan Spirit. I hope you found this post helpful and that it inspires you to make your own custom doll for the first time. Thank you.

I bought the thing! I’ve gone through all my makeup stash except for my lipstick very recently (& makeup I went through earlier this year), and I’ve been using it and going out more, so I am developing a concrete list of things that I don’t have and would like to have. (as opposed to upcoming releases that I covet!) these are those eyeshadows:
a pigmented, matte bright-burnt orange. nothing that sheers out too peachy. I have not seen any that would properly fit the bill. makeup geek morocco is close but too coral, I think. UD spike is too red and too peach. coloured rain pumpkin pie is not at all what I am looking for, but now that I have seen it I have decided I will die without it! in which case empress would be worth trying, but it seems too red to me from here. devil, in the kat von d saint & sinner palette, is brighter than what I’m imagining but I like it the best but probably only because I’m heavily trying to talk myself out of talking myself out of wanting that palette very badly.
a true (not blue or grey, almost yellow-based) easter fucking lavender. I don’t know what kind of finish I imagine here, a lot of the shimmers end up looking too grey or blue, and a lot of mattes I end up hating. I just don’t feel like I have a real lavender! everything in the neighborhood is purported to suck. mufe has probably the perfect one in artist palette 3, which is a great palette with a few shades I love, and it’s also on sale I know I know, but for some reason I hate looking at all those colors together and it makes me not want it? even though I should want it?? OK FINE I want it.  but less than that kat von d, which has less good reviews and at least 2-3 shadows I have fully duped :( there seem to be more decent eyeliners that would serve this, and I have a nyx liquid one, which is half the reason I’m trying to find a shadow to pair with it! there’s a creme color that matches the liner I have, but I’m trying to be very cautious about buying cream shadows, because I do not use them fast enough, and cheap ones will dry out on me very fast.
I may make one exception, though. there’s this pale aqua-mint cream shadow my mom used to wear--a greener essie mint candy apple, maybe?--that I want to replace. it’s by rimmel. I wore it a bit after she died but it came to me broken (all of her makeup was broken! take better care of your things everybody! close everything up tight!) and it’s just nasty now. it’s been sitting on my bathroom floor for months so that I’ll look at it and remember to find something, lmao! normally I would replace a cream shade with a powder formula for the aforementioned reasons, but.  I love the way that I can wear this very opaque and creamy (cream--not matte, not shimmer, creamy) and it looks perfectly dated barbie, but when I sheer it out it has a nice skin finish. the shade can’t be too bright or too tiffany or too drab--just deadpan, cream. I must have it! it will take time.
there is a very specific metallic green from a few early 00s runway collections that I can’t place. I have a hair brush from that era that is this exact green. it is missing half of its bristles but I keep it, because it is this green.  seen also, more vividly, in maurizio galante spring 2011. the only thing that approaches this green in spirit is sugarpill clickbait, which I may just need to snag. and a matching nail polish, please!
when I did a colourpop order last I told myself I have plenty of hot pinks and do not need a hot pink. since then I’ve played around with all my hot pinks and decided that I do not, in fact, have a suitable non-blue lipstick pink eyeshadow for the best possible monochrome face, especially as I’ve been leaning into more barbie pinks rather than the bluey fuchsias I feel more comfortable in. what I have is the maybelline color tattoo pigment in pink rebel, which is remarkably purple-ish, especially with its blue-based shimmer. it’s very pretty but as it builds up it only gets less hot pink, and more fairy-lavender. I also have an old sweetpea and fay pink pigment that is nearly orange, not suitable at all, and plenty of lighter, paler, and orchid pinks. so I’ve ordered (on sale!) nyx’s primal color pressed pigment in hot pink, which is exactly perfect. I also want to get colourpop slave2pink ASAP to supplement, those are the perfect ones, and the ones I’ve been using have been poor excuses. I would eventually like a (liquid or not) eye liner in that shade, which (along with a perfect red) are the only eyeliners I’m giving myself permission to seek until I start wearing liner more regularly. there are a lot of great options there, I think.
something I can do a full, opaque foil silver lid with. I like coloured raine flashing lights, both silvers in the ud heavy metals palette (though I do not want that palette!), urban decay shellshock, all of the silvers in the color tattoo line (this would be an appropriate application of a cream shadow! all of my old ones of these--and I had so many!--dried out!). I have so many extremely pigmented silver liners, I can’t believe I don’t have anything like this. I also love--at the alter of mixed metals, always--slightly fucked up/warmed/pewter silvers. NARS parallax is the best of all of the above, it’s perfect, I just can’t pay that much for a single.
can we talk about the chartreuse golds everyone is promising and failing to produce? I think butter london should make a wallis shadow! also, someone get me butter london wallis, finally, in 2017

In Céline Dion’s new ad for Célinununu, her gender-neutral clothing line with the children’s retailer Nununu, the songstress sneaks into a hospital nursery and finds the baby girls predictably wearing pink and the baby boys wearing blue. Determined to upend these gendered stereotypes, Dion blows fairy dust and, voilà, the newborns appear in stylish black-and-white ensembles. One infant’s onesie features the words “New World Order” to underscore that the time has come to shift how society imposes rigid gender standards on children.
The time is ripe for the type of products Célinununu offers. Parents are skirting norms by raising children without a gender designation or allowing kids to determine their own gender. The fight for transgender rights has never had more visibility. And brands are taking notice by launching gender-neutral clothing lines for adults and kids alike.
In recent years, major retailers like Target and Abercrombie & Fitch Kids have offered such collections, as have indie retailers Izzy & Ash and Wild Ivy. Last year, the marketing firm Mintel found that 20 percent of parents of children under age 12 who had bought kids’ clothing in the past year supported gender-neutral clothing options.
Celine Dion has teamed up with Nununu on a gender-neutral clothing line for kids called Celinununu. Courtesy of Nununu
For Nununu founders Iris Adler and Tali Milchberg of Tel Aviv, Israel, the effort to change conventions in children’s fashion started a decade ago, making their company one of the first to take part in this burgeoning trend. They formed the brand, they told Vox, because they couldn’t find clothes for their kids outside the pink-blue binary and found the underlying messages clothes sent to their children about gender unsettling.
“It was very boyish and girly, very blue and pink, football and flowers,” Milchberg said. “The clothes were divided into two sections, and we were concerned about the emotional aspect.”
To counter this, they founded Nununu in 2009; it offers gender-neutral clothes in a neutral color palette that sets it apart from more traditional children’s clothing. And many of the items would look just fine on adults. That’s by design, Adler explained; she and Milchberg believe children’s fashion doesn’t have to be silly, fussy, or frilly.
Clothes from the brand are available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, and other retailers, as well as from the Nununu website. (“Nununu,” by the way, is what Israeli parents say to naughty children, Adler and Milchberg explained.) Nununu has earned a celebrity following, including Gwen Stefani, Steph Curry, and Kourtney Kardashian, all of whom have dressed their kids in Nununu apparel. Dion, who has become a fashion influencer and last year launched the Céline Dion Collection at Nordstrom, is, of course, a Nununu fan too.
“I’ve always loved Nununu and what they represent,” she tweeted. “Partnering with them to encourage a dialogue of equality and possibility makes so much sense.”
But not everyone gets or agrees with the concept. While thousands of Dion’s fans retweeted her Nununu ad campaign, others declared that they’d lost respect for her. Critics have dogged Nununu from the outset, according to Adler and Milchberg, because the brand focuses on changing clothing concepts as well as attitudes about children and gender.
The idea that baby girls and boys should wear pink and blue, respectively, is relatively new. For centuries, it was standard practice for children in the West to wear white dresses until age 6. In the United States, the baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) were the first generation to wear gender-specific clothing, according to Smithsonian.com. In the mid-1800s, pastel colors, including pink and blue, were linked to baby clothes but not directly to gender.
In fact, a century ago, some retailers promoted the idea that boys should wear pink, as they regarded it as a “stronger color,” and blue as more “delicate and dainty” and “prettier for the girl.” Others suggested that hair color or eye color should determine what shade of clothing babies wore. It took until the 1940s before the “pink for girls, blue for boys” dress custom began to cement itself.
“What was once a matter of practicality — you dress your baby in white dresses and diapers; white cotton can be bleached — became a matter of ‘Oh my God, if I dress my baby in the wrong thing, they’ll grow up perverted,’” Jo B. Paoletti, author of Pink and Blue: Telling the Girls From the Boys in America, told Smithsonian in 2011.
A baby wearing Célinununu clothing. Courtesy of Nununu
In the 1970s, gender-neutral baby wear took hold once again, thanks to the women’s movement; feminists didn’t want boys and girls to be raised or treated differently, and women themselves began to dress in ways considered to be more “masculine” as they entered the workforce in larger numbers.
The next decade, that trend reversed itself as ultrasound technology allowed parents to learn the sex of their babies in utero and businesses pounced on the marketing possibilities of this medical advancement, offering everything from diapers to strollers to crib sheets in blue and pink, as well as clothing. And the messages these products sent about gender narrowed.
“All of a sudden it wasn’t just a blue overall; it was a blue overall with a teddy bear holding a football,” Paoletti recalled to Smithsonian.
For Adler and Milchberg, the implied gender norms of these kids’ clothes were concerning; Milchberg said she didn’t want children growing up to think that they had to either play football or play with Barbie dolls.
So she and Adler, who have backgrounds in advertising, decided to launch their own children’s line. But when they told friends about their plans for unisex kids clothes, they faced ridicule.
“When we started, friends and people we know said, ‘What? Are you guys out of your minds — unisex clothes for kids?’” Milchberg said. “‘You will lose your money and your career.’ But we felt strongly about it.”
“The whole concept form Nununu from the beginning, the monochromatic colors — that’s how we dressed,” she said. “Some said we dressed ‘more manly.’ We dressed as ourselves. Why should the kids be different?”
Dion, according to Adler and Milchberg, felt the same way. The duo said she became a Nununu fan five years ago after buying some of their products for her children.
The Célinununu line made its debut this week. Courtesy of Nununu
A year ago, she reached out about collaborating on a clothing line with Nununu, the founders said. They decided to use an unconventional ad campaign to market Célinununu, to match the company’s unconventional ethos. The ad was uploaded to YouTube Tuesday and as of Friday has garnered more than 412,000 views.
“We decided this is the one where we’re going all the way out,” Milchberg said of the commercial. “We love it. We believe in it, and it has really put our message out in such an effortless way.”
Because Célinununu has opened up a discussion about the role of gender in children’s clothing, Adler said partnering with Dion has given their cause greater visibility.
“We knew it has to do with more than just clothes,” Adler said. “It was such a great opportunity to join Céline and get out this message for equality.”

11 People on Their Private Obsessions

11 People on Their Private Obsessions
I watched a Netflix documentary about minimalism a few months ago and keep recalling one particular scene. The doc’s main subjects, Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, are minimalism maximalists: they own just a few, necessary items of clothes; their homes are bare. No decorations. No knickknacks. No “stuff.” They don’t need a ton of things to be happy, and they travel America to spread the gospel of living without excess. As someone who stores sweaters in the oven and had to lobby with a professional closet cleaner to let me keep my box of costumes “just in case,” the concept was refreshing — it seemed freeing. But it also seemed impossible. I wanted to know what you’re supposed to do with all the impractical, space-taking, no-value, dust-collecting stuff that you love, that means something.
Millburn and Nicodemus get that question a lot, they explain about halfway through. They share an anecdote of a book collector who takes joy in their library, who likes to loan friends old books, find new ones, browse through dog-eared pages at whim; and the book collector wants to know whether or not, in order to convert to minimalism, they have to get rid of their collection. The minimalists’ answer is simple: keep it. That which fills you with joy and happiness, they reason, no matter how much space it takes up or how useful it is, is not excess. It’s not just “stuff.” It’s a part of you.
In what started as a pitch to celebrate Fandom Month, I asked members of the team to bring in their obsessions, which quickly translated into something more: their not-just-stuff — that which they collect and cherish, individual items that are important to them for various symbolic reasons. Matt, our Head of Operations, has held on to a pair of sky-high patent leather platform stilettos because they represent a pivotal change in his perspective. Nikki, our Director of Ad Operations and Product, brought in medals from all the half marathons she’s completed. Scroll down to see the things that matter most to them, and then, in the comments, tell us (or better yet, show us) your most important “stuff.”

What do you collect? I collect U2 stuff. I brought in a few records (I don’t have a record player), some concert tees, and a wristband from a time I saw them live. I have a giant framed poster in my bedroom but I wasn’t sure how to get it across the city for this shoot.
What made you start this collection? How long has this collection been growing? I’ve been a huge fan of U2 since my freshman year of high school. My first items from around that time (though not pictured here) were an Achtung Baby CD and the book U2 by U2. They both currently live in my childhood bedroom.
Would you ever sell it? No way.
What do you need strangers to know about your U2 stuff? U2 gets a lot of inexplicable hate and I just love them so much and I need strangers to know that it’s okay to like whatever music you like. Britney Spears and U2 and whatever else aren’t guilty pleasures, they’re just good.
What does this collection say about you? It says I know great stuff when I hear it.
Have a good story about any of it? The SNL wristband is from last December, when I got a friend to get me into the show. It has no value to anyone else, but to me it’s something I wore the night The Edge and I touched elbows “by accident” and I teared up.
Amelia, Head of Creative
What did you bring in? Vampire Weekend’s debut album, Vampire Weekend, in record form.
Why is it special to you? It reminds me of a few very, very specific moments in my life. One in particular is the first time I heard the album, from start to finish. I think it was summer 2008, since the album came out in January that year. So many things happened in that short half hour that I feel like I could write a whole book around it. I have a few other albums from around that same time period that I feel the same way about, but I have no idea where those CDs are.
Would you ever sell the record? Sure, although I’d feel guilty because the record’s in bad shape. I’m not attached to the physical record — just the album itself. ~*It’s a metaphor, man.*~
What does this record say about you? That I am a very bad record owner? Also that I used to spend a lot of time at Urban Outfitters (because I own a Vampire Weekend record and was probably like “buying this is the coolest thing I have ever done.”). Also that I am unequivocally stuck in 2008, musically, and forever will be.

What did you bring in? A Halle Berry-as-Jinx-in-007-Barbie
What made you buy this doll? Representation has always mattered to me, and seeing Black dolls, especially one that depicts a character in a mainstream film like Bond, was so awesome that I couldn’t leave it behind.
Are you strict about who can/can’t “play” the Jinx doll? I don’t believe in “look, don’t touch.” I invest in these sorts of silly things so they can be enjoyed by everyone, not just me.
Would you ever sell it? No, it’s more sentimental value than anything else!
What do you need strangers to know about it? I know, the idea of Barbie is problematic, and I get that (and agree), but this doll is more about the kick-ass character and less about the body politics, for me.
What does it say about you? It really speaks to the duality of who I am, now that I’m thinking of it. I like to think that I’m Woke AF, but I also own a Barbie Doll. That about sums it up.

What do you collect? I enjoy small animal figurines and have amassed a small army of them completely by accident. Not all of them are pictured here, but these were the ones I could find when I was late to work. They’re curiously scattered around my house.
What made you start this collection of animals? I’m easily charmed by cute things. I hesitate to call it a collection because there’s been no intentionality in its creation, but maybe that makes it all the more legit! I just love objects that look like creatures and I wish everything I owned had ears, eyes and a tail.
How long has this collection been growing? I think the first one was Helen the frog, pictured above. I found her in Chinatown in San Francisco in 2012 on what I used to call “my trinket hunts.” She’s followed me everywhere since, usually finding a home on my desk among my other treasures. Occasionally I will drop Helen on other people’s desks at Man Repeller when they’re feeling down. Her presence helps.
What does it say about you? I love animals so much and am quick to anthropomorphize. I think some part of me truly believes in the aliveness of certain inanimate objects. I find comfort in surrounding myself by a little family of cute things. That sounds so creepy, but I just think it makes life more charming.
Have a good story about any of them? The white seal you see is called a Squishie — you can buy them in bulk on Amazon. When I first bought them and had them shipped to the MR office, Amelia freaked out because she had just ordered one the week before. We ordered more as a group, and everyone at the office had one on their desk. When we started posting them on Instagram, people started asking where they were from and buying them too. It was a Squishie moment. A couple months later, my SF friend told me he shipped me a present for no reason. It was a box of Squishies. He had no idea I knew what they were. Guess it’s been a Squishie kind of year; we need them right now.

What do you collect? I brought in my collection of mini bags, which was amassed not so much as a byproduct of intentionally “collecting” them, but more so organically, as a result of my great affinity for the way carrying them makes me feel (like a stylish giant).
What made you start this collection? After I purchased my first mini bag two years ago and realized it was the perfect size combination of aesthetically pleasing (they’re adorable) and functionally utilitarian (they hold the perfect amount of stuff), it was full speed ahead.
There’s no storage in NYC — where do you keep all of it? This is a great question — one I’ve been struggling with given my bedroom itself is nearly as small as a mini bag. For a while, I stored them all around my room in various nooks and crannies (on top of my radiator, in between stacks of jeans, inside bigger bags), but that system proved to be problematic because I frequently forgot where I put them (that’s the thing about small bags — they’re tiny enough they can get lost, even in the tiniest of New York apartments). Now I keep them together in a giant basket underneath my shelves.
Would you ever sell any of it? I don’t know. This sounds weird, but each one has a different personality, so they kind of feel like my friends. I’m pretty attached to them.

What do you collect? I collect postcards from places I visit and museums/galleries.
What made you start this collection? I started collecting postcards when I came to college — so it’s been roughly four years now — because it was a really simple and cheap way to decorate. It’s become something much more sentimental; now my walls are covered with little memories.
Would you ever sell them? I don’t think anyone is interested in purchasing my collection, but maybe for the right price…? It depends on the postcard.
What does this collection say about you? I think my postcards are like puzzle pieces of who I am, as corny as that sounds. They are physical and visual artifacts of the experiences I’ve had and the emotions I’ve felt at different moments of my life.
Have a good story about any of them? One of my favorite postcards, an image of a bullfighter’s butt in hot pink hot pants that I got in Cordoba, went missing! I got it during my last full day in Spain when I went back to visit in August (I spent a semester in Madrid during the Spring semester of 2017). I was so devastated that it was gone that I tried to convince a friend in Spain to try and find me another just like it. A day later, I found it tucked in the notebook I brought with me on my trip for safe keeping.

What do you collect? MUGS!
What made you start this collection? I think it started when I was about 15? 16? I bought a Polish pottery mug and got hooked. I like ceramics and I use mugs every single day, so the collection grew from there.
There’s no storage in NYC — where do you keep all of it? Thankfully I live alone so all my kitchen cabinet space is for me and my mugs.
Would you ever sell any of it? Maybe! There are a few I don’t *love.*
What do you need strangers to know about it? I try and get one every time I go on a trip!
What does it say about you? That I love beverages, which is true! What’s also true is that I probably always have seven half-full mugs around my apartment at all times.
Have a good story about any of them? Two very nice ladies at Waffle House gave me mugs (one regular, one holiday edition!) after I asked if I could have them. GOTTA LOVE THE SOUTH.
Do you have a policy about using them or who else gets to drink out of them? I have a ranking of which mugs I love the most, so I save my highest ranking ones for myself and then let others use those lower on the rank. Hehe.
Matt, Head of Operations
What did you bring in? A pair of size 15 black platform patent leather pumps.
How long have you had them and what made you keep them? I’ve had them for four years. Aside from their timeless and classic nature, they were the first pair of heels I ever owned and a gift from a good friend who had them custom-made via a human named Blondie.
Who is/isn’t allowed to touch these shoes? All are welcome to experience their glory.
Would you ever sell them? No — they’re sentimental!
What do you need strangers to know about them? While on the surface they are just a beautiful pair of shoes sized for a large-footed individual, they represent a pretty pivotal moment for me in terms of opening my mind to sartorially expressing myself beyond the bounds of traditional gendered clothing.
What do these heels say about you? That I am confident in my balancing abilities and love living on the edge. (Also that I’m not afraid of a sprained ankle?)
Have a good story about any of them? Less of a story and more of a newfound appreciation for every sorority girl I went to college with.
Nikki, Director of Ad Operations & Product
What do you collect? Medals from races that I’ve completed
When did you start this collection and what made you keep going? I did my first half marathon in 2008. I was so happy that I saved the medal and the bib from it. After that, I just started saving all of them and never stopped!
There’s no storage in NYC — where do you keep all of it? Thankfully, I have a ton of closet space. I hang them on a hook tucked behind a dresser in my closet.
Would you ever sell any of your medals? I don’t think anyone would buy one, but I want to hold onto these forever.
What do you need strangers to know about your collection? There’s an accompanying Google spreadsheet with the date, race type (run, cycling, tri), distance and results for all of my races.
Have a crazy story about any of them? One year I tried to do a half marathon every month. I got up to 10 and then a few storms wrecked my streak.
Patty, Head of Partnerships
What do you collect? Letters between my grandparents during their first year of marriage while my grandpa was in the service overseas and my grandma was pregnant with my dad.
What made you start this collection? I love letters. Reading them, writing them, receiving them, reading books with letters IN them. My aunt found these and, because of my letter obsession, gave them to me for safekeeping. I treasure them (and her, thank you Aunt Mary!).
In addition to these letters, I have most letters that anyone has ever written me: letters from my parents and brothers when I went away to college, love letters from past boyfriends, letters and postcards from friends. There are some meaningful letters that I’ve lost along the way, and I do miss them.
There’s no storage in NYC — where do you keep all of it? Um, in my apartment with no digital back up. I know, I know, working on it.
Would you ever sell any of it? How dare you.
What do you need strangers to know about it? That my grandma had the most beautiful handwriting in the entire universe, and she was a lefty!
What does your collection of letters say about you? Words matter to me. And I need to back up my shit more regularly.
Have a good story about any of the letters? There is one letter in there that my grandma wrote while she and my grandfather were dating. She was in college in Kansas, he in Indiana (her brother was his roommate). My favorite bit: “Tony, I got the lead in the play! I was so excited when I found out that I could scarcely think. It is really a tremendous part and will be quite a challenge. Thank you so much for your prayers. They really help.” I MEAN C’MON.

What do you collect? Star jewelry!
What made you start this collection? At first, it was accidental. I received a lot of gold jewelry as gifts. Then I started to realize that wearing the items when I started a new class or new job helped people remember my name.
How long has this collection been growing? I had a terrible nickel allergy growing up, so once the allergy faded and I was allowed to get my ears pierced, it was a BIG DEAL. I bought my first star earrings at the pharmacy in Canada where my sister and I got our ears pierced together.
Would you ever sell any of it? Nope.
What do you need strangers to know about it? My name isn’t STERLING. Or Sterlene. Or Charlene. Or Sternum (yes, I got that written on a Starbucks cup once).
What does your collection say about you? When I first learned to write my name, I was desperate to perfect my criss-cross star abilities. I knew I wanted to write my name with an actual star in it. It’s been my legal signature on my passports and every legal document. My sister Rein wrote her name with a raindrop on the ‘i’, my sister K’s name is just one letter long, and my sister Willow used to doodle a willow tree out of the ‘l’s, so name imagery was a big thing in my fam.
Have a good story about any of your stars? I wore the dangling star earrings (from Madewell) to my first day at Man Repeller, and so far I haven’t been called Sterling once!

1. Have you had an argument with anyone recently? If so, do you still have issues with that person?
I got into a very bad argument with my stepdad yesterday that resulted in me deciding to move out. I’ve always had issues with him and always will.
2. Are you talking to anyone while filling this in? How about texting / chatting on Facebook?
Nope. I’m just doing my own thing.
3. Have you done something recently that helped someone else, in any way?
Well, yeah. My job is to help my boss with all of her paperwork and projects so there’s that. And then I gave my boyfriend rides this weekend because his car is still in the shop.
4. What kind of mood are you in atm? Is someone else responsible for that mood?
I’m in kind of a downer mood. My mom and stepdad are both equally responsible.
5. Has someone of the opposite sex been getting on your nerves lately?
Yep, my stepdad. And getting on my nerves is putting it lightly.
6. Who was the last person that asked to hang out with you? Tell me the story of how you met that person, everything you remember.
My friend Katy. We met at a bar in Covington over a year ago and have been hanging out ever since.
7. If you knew that one of your friends was considering suicide, what would you say to them?
I have been in that situation with a friend. I made sure to listen to him and hear him out and just basically let him know I cared. I also talked with him about my personal experiences with feeling suicidal and depressed. Eventually, I told his best friend about it because it was getting scary, he seems to be doing much better now.
8. Have you ever felt so depressed that you were struggling to carry on? If so, what would you say to someone else who was in that situation?
I feel that way a lot. I’d tell them that many people, including me, have felt that way at some point to let them know they’re not alone. I’d also tell them it’s okay to take a break and just do nothing and let your brain and heart heal when they’re feeling overwhelmed. One thing I’ll never forget it is how my mom would aggressively force me to get up and do stuff when I was severely depressed and it actually made me feel x100 worse. I’d let the person know that it’s okay to sleep in and watch TV if that’s the only thing making them feel better at the moment. Sometimes we just need a minute to become productive again.
9. Have you ever worn coloured mascara? If not, would you ever think about trying it? And if you have, what is / was your favourite colour to wear?
No. I just like to wear black mascara.
10. What do you remember about your first day of secondary school? Were you more nervous or excited about it?
I was really excited to start high school. Being with all the older kids, having homecomings and proms and football games, all of that really excited me for whatever reason. I'll never forget my first day walking into the halls with my red hair and people being like “woah, you’ve changed since middle school”. I also remember how much nicer and new the high school building was compared to the middle school building, so that was really cool. I loved being a freshman.
11. Who was the last person to pay you a compliment?
Bosho wosho
12. Tell me about the shirt you’re wearing. Is it one of your favourites?
No...it’s just a beige and black striped shirt that I bought specifically for work. It is comfy though.
13. Is there anything that’s happened in the past month, that you wish you could go back in time and change?
No
14. What color is your purse / wallet?
My purse is a light brown color, and my wallet is black and white with native print.
15. What’s the closest item to you that’s black?
My computer
16. Do you think guys see your mother as a ‘yummy mummy’?
Ugh probably.
17. Is there a certain name that you think seems to have become really popular, and you know lots of people with that same name?
Rachel and Katie are extremely popular names around here, and Kennedy is a popular baby girl’s name this year
18. What’s the most expensive item in your make-up bag?
I really don’t know, probably one of my lipsticks
19. Think about what you looked like 5 years ago. How did you look different, compared to the way you look now?
Well, 5 years ago I was a lot skinnier. I had my natural hair color, my nose was still pierced, and I always wore eyeliner. Now, I’m slightly fatter, my hair is maroon, my nose is no longer pierced, and I never wear make up. Ohhh adulthood.
20. Who was the last person of the opposite sex to text you? Do you think that person is attracted to you?
Josh, and I hope so.
21. Before Facebook became popular, did you use any other social networking site, like Bebo or Myspace?
I used MySpace. Funny how that was like the thing back in the day, and then it just literally died. <<
22. Has anyone ever asked you out, and you turned them down? If so, did you feel guilty about it? Why do you think you said no?
Yes, and I always felt really guilty about it because I hate getting rejected. I usually said no because I wasn’t attracted to them or they just weren’t my type.
23. Name the last three people of the opposite sex that you talked to. What did you talk about?
My boyfriend...we talked about a jacket I was
24. Who is your most recent text message from? Has that person ever told you that they love you?
My boyfriend, and yes he has.
25. Have you ever asked anyone “Do you love me?” If so, did you get the response you wanted? Do you think when someone says “I love you”, you feel obliged to say it back?
Sometimes I’ll ask my friends or my boyfriend, “How much do you love me?” as a joke to get them to do me a favor. When it comes to my boyfriend I don’t always feel obligated to say “I love you” back because I’m still in the phase where I feel awkward saying it in person. It’s really weird. I do truly love him a lot but it just feels weird to say that to somebody in person without feeling vulnerable. It’s just...a new thing for me.
26. I know it’s a depressing thought, but have you ever actually tried to imagine what the end of the world might be like?
I think we’re experiencing the first stages of it now. I know everybody jokes about it, but America is about to be destroyed from the inside out and we are the most powerful, (or maybe 2nd most powerful, I forget) nation in the world.
27. Which Disney princess do you think is the most beautiful? Why?
I’ll go with Ariel because hair goals.
28. Someone tells you that you’re wasting your time with the person you like. What do you say?
I’d ask them why they felt that way
29. Has anything happened in the last 7 days that you’d like to forget?
Yeah
30. Has someone of the opposite sex ever sang to you? If so, how did you respond to it?
Yes. It was sweet.
31. When did you last hug someone of the opposite sex?
Monday
32. Have you ever seen the film “Casablanca”? Did you like it?
I think I’ve seen bits of it.
33. If you’ve had a bad experience in a past relationship, did you find that you were scared to get into another relationship, in case the same thing happened again?
Yep. I still get scared about it from time to time. I know that Josh is so different from all the other guys I’ve dated in the past but it’s still a fear I have just because of experience.
34. Are you friends with the last person you hugged, or something more?
She’s my mother
35. Do you ever post song lyrics as your Facebook status?
Every now and then. I used to do it a lot but then kind of stopped because people would be like “what’s your status about” or “are you okay???” not realizing it was a song lyric I posted.
36. How many girls do you know with the name ‘Georgina?’
Lol none
38. Do you drink alcohol on a regular basis, or do you prefer to save it for special occasions?
I drink a glass of wine every other day
39. Do you have a relative whose name begins with ‘L’? Tell me about him / her.
Oh god, Laura. She’s my aunt on my dad’s side. I won’t go into too much detail, but she’s basically been shunned from the rest of the family ever since my grandma died. It has to do with inheritance and all that and it’s just a very ugly and sad situation.
40. Did you play with Barbies when you were a kid, or did you prefer something else?
I was obsessed with Barbies. I’m sure there were tons of other toys I played with as a child, but Barbies are the ones that stand out the most.
41. Are you a secretive person?
I keep to myself a lot in “real” life, but online I share a lot.<<
42. When did you last eat?
A couple hours ago.
43. If you were going to buy a present for the person you love / like, what would you generally choose?
He needs a proper winter hat, so I would get him that.
44. Do you plan on kissing the last person you kissed, again?
Yes
45. If I’m going to buy you a box of chocolates, which kind should I definitely NOT get?
Please no dark chocolate
46. If you met the celebrity that you most admire, what would be the first thing you’d say to him/her?
Oh man. I’d be such a nervous wreck I probably couldn’t come up with something coherent. <<
47. Has anyone ever told you that you are special? If so, do you think that person meant it?
Yes, but I don’t think they meant it. Besides my family history, there’s nothing really special about me.
48. Is there something you generally always ask for help with?
I can’t think of one particular thing. I guess carrying heavy stuff.
49. If you had to give up your phone or your computer, which would it be?
My phone. I spend all my time on my laptop.<<
50. Has anyone called you gorgeous / beautiful today?
Nope
