Ok. Okay. Hear me out here.

Evgeni Kolpakov!

Again. I know nothing about the character and have never seen the movie (so ig I’m behind on my Oscar filmography xd). But. From what I’ve seen he’s sweet, loving, and has a mischievous side (assuming we’ve all seen the gifs of him flashing his coworker, Dwayne).

So as we all (or maybe not all) of us know, Evgeni is a security guard working in London— and he’s also Russian, you should know that, too. He’s a pretty chill guy most of the time, but he also goes for what he wants without hesitation.

And the moment you walked into the museum [Is he working as a security guard at a museum??? Let’s just say he is for plot purposes], passing him at the entrance with a polite nod and only a soft question about where the latest exhibit is; apparently some sort of sky-themed art event where there were rare paintings of blue, gray, and starry midnight set up on display. You’d heard in passing and had nothing better to do, but you were surprised when the security guard caught your attention more than the art you came for.

Evgeni may be bold, but he’s also kind of nervous. He spends at least twenty minutes second-guessing what he’s about to do, especially on his lunch break when he has nothing else to think about.

When he comes back, he immediately starts checking the cameras to see where you are. Dwayne, used to his antics, only rolls his eyes. You’re not in the museum, though; at least, you won’t be in a few minutes. You’re leaving. Entranced by the smile on your face, he bolts out of there and rushes down to the parking lot, trying to act somewhat normal.

He spots you just as you’re entering your car, and luckily for him, you hesitate. When he actually gets up to the window he sees that you’re texting; not a partner, he hopes. He knocks on the glass lightly, making you jump. He didn’t expect to hear the rock music blaring from your speakers before you muted it, but he comments with a soft laugh, “Interesting choice.”

Once you roll your window down, he’s profusely apologizing for scaring you. “I’m deeply sorry, miss, I just needed to ask you something.”

“Oh? Of course sir, what can I—“

“Please,” He interrupted softly, “You can call me Evgeni.”

Your beaming smile made his heart flutter. “Okay. Evgeni. What can I do for you?”

He couldn’t stop his own smile, or the flush that spread across his cheeks. “Would it be alright if I took you for coffee?”

A smile so big it nearly reached your ears graced your face. “Y-yeah. More than alright. I’d like that.”

Evgeni swore he fell in love with you right there.

When he had invited you to his place for the first time. And you remembered that it had nearly made you cry back then. Not that it was a sad song. Tranquil was a more fitting term. Rather you had been taken aback by his talent. Unexpected softness from a rather rigid and serious kind of guy. At least that's how he had come across when you had first met him. What else would anyone expect from someone working security at one of New York's finest and most expensive galleries? He had to be vigilant in his job after all; so when you had started touching displays to somehow connect to the items up for auction, he had only ever been but two steps behind you at all times, watching you from the corner of his eye.

omg thank you so much for asking, i have many thoughts. for rodion i actually have a faceclaim because i think evgeny shwartz is both very attractive and slightly fucked up looking, like i mean come on. they need to cast him in the upcoming miniseries if it ever gets made or else i will lose my will to live

i don’t have a particular faceclaim for dunya (though i should look for one 🤔🤔🤔) but they’re described as very similar so i think of them as almost looking like twins tbh

i actually stole my hc for sonya’s appearance from @lullabyes who posted about carol kane in the 70s looking like her and i can’t unsee this now

for razumikhin i have completely unintentionally always pictured him as the way rostislav kolpakov looked in chess even though this is entirely contrary to dostoyevsky’s description. i’m wrong but i can’t change this about myself and you’re all going to have to accept it. to me this is dima razumikhin and that’s between me and god

So I spent summer 2022 watching Oscar Isaac. Here are my very subjective favorites!

Annihilation - I love Kane. That southern drawl. Plus I teach biology and I am a believer. I get Kane and Lena's dynamic. It is fascinating, and I am glad they still love each other. I want to read the book now.

The Promise - Mikael Boghosian is such a sweetheart, so gentle. The beginning when he is at Constantinople is beautiful and so is the way he cares for Maral.

Star Wars sequel trilogy - Everyone's favorite flyboy, Poe Dameron! I was pretty biased for The Force Awakens even before this Oscar Isaac kick. It is so much fun, and I remember how I was a kid again the minute I heard the theme in the theater and saw those scrolling words. Poe has so much joy in this movie too.The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker are good too.

Moon Knight - The reason I'm here! Loved this. He is brilliant as MarcSpector/StevenGrant/JakeLockley. The series is so well done on every level. You can see the thought and effort that went into it.

Dune - I can't wait to see more of these movies. I like how different it is. I've started the first book now too. Duke Leto stands out as a father.

The Card Counter - William "Bill" Tell - Listen, give me a remorseful, messed-up, lonely man trying to do his best for a lonely messed-up kid any day. The poker background was cool and the performance was absolutely top-notch. Pretty much next level imo. Flashbacks were extremely hard to watch. I loved the quote on his tattoo, "I trust my life to Providence, I trust my soul to Grace."

The Nativity Story - This telling of the Christmas story is the first I've seen that really shows Joseph's contributions. Mary needed his support and he gave it. Can't wait to watch it again in December.

Life Itself - This one almost didn't make the cut because it gutted me. Like Titanic-level crying. One reviewer called it "exploitative" and I can kinda understand that. When Will is happy he is very very happy. When Will is not there is trauma.

Won't Back Down - So Michael Perry is the cutest grade school teacher ever with his ukulele. There are adorable moments that I wish lasted longer.

Honorable Mentions:

The Two Faces of January - Rydal Keener - Love the beauty of Greece, but lost interest after what happened to the lady. To be fair Oscar Isaac has some of his best scenes after that though.

W.E. - Lots to love here and lots I didn't, but Evgeni Kolpakov is so great. Hint: I couldn't find the movie when searching until I put the periods in the title.

Finally, I don't have access to The Letter Room. Bummer.

I'm 5'1" (I get it from my mom sobs cries), I'm an Aries, I have black hair that's partially dyed red and dark brown eyes, my love language is a little bit of physical touch but mainly quality time and words of affirmation cuz sometimes touch can be too much y'know? I was an art student and I can't go a day without playing games and listening to music, my earphones are glued to my ears at this rate </3
