Dove (part seven)
Leon Kennedy x female reader (bodyguard trope and the slowest, slow burn I swear)
Tumblr media
Part one. Part two. Part three. Part four. Part five. Part six. Part seven.
---
A tense knot has formed right between Leon’s shoulder blades – can feel it pull when he tilts his head side to side, but it doesn’t seem to be loosening. Can’t even blame it on sleeping on the sofa cos he hasn’t laid down to sleep since the call with Hunnigan, stays sat up right. He’s athletic, he can jump up to his feet from horizontal but it’ll add a second or so to his reaction time and he’s not taking the risk.
He's on edge and he doesn’t like it. The ball of anxiety in his gut has saved his life more times than he can count, but it shouldn’t be necessary in this situation, should it? He’s set up in a safe house, literally off some beaten track in the middle of nowhere – location chosen and distributed by encrypted software so, technically, no-one in the DSO knows where he is either. It’s rigged up to the heavens with security measures - cameras, alarm systems, motion detector - explosion-proof windows, reinforced doors, all topped off with his favourite array of weapons in the duffel bag, currently resting by his still booted feet.
The objective of his mission hasn’t changed after the intel he’s received, that some foreign agency has had access to the CCTV feed for who knows how many hours before they were cut off. He should feel reassured that the quality of the footage was awful – it was only by how many times he’s encountered Lickers that he could even tell that’s what the creatures were when he’d be presented with the grainy images. He didn’t see the footage of you being rescued, but it would be a cruel kick in the gut to find that feed had been HD.
He lifts an arm – his left, keeping his right arm free, his accuracy is better by millimetres with his right – and rubs the knot, hoping to relieve the tension. It's not 100% confirmed they are looking or will be looking for you either, but why would anyone link up to the CCTV circuit if not to check on the outcome of their operation?
His immediate thought had been to up the frequency of his perimeter checks, one every two hours. He could do that at night, sure – military training taught him the correct and most efficient techniques to power nap – but in the day it would be harder without worrying you about what’s changed.
You wanted updates. Hell, you were entitled to updates. But he wants to give you good news, doesn’t wanna add to the weight on your shoulders with what could be nothing. It’s stupid, he knows it’s stupid, but in these sweet domestic moments the two of you have been sharing, he’s been pretending it’s something else – friends watching television, cooking a meal together – the sweet smiles the two of you exchange, but it’s all ripped apart the moment he has to do his checks. He can see the worry settle on your face then, a reminder of where you are with the flick of the safety off his gun and the twist of the lock as he goes outside to conduct surveillance.
Speaking of, his phone beeps for his next circuit on the building and he’s up on his feet in the blink of an eye. He pats his cargo pocket out of habit for the keys on the walk over to the garage door, but finds himself pausing outside your bedroom, his eyes focusing on the handle. You should still be pretty under with those sleeping pills – note to self, he’ll need to start weening you off them from now on, far too easy to get addicted. It wouldn’t hurt to just… check you were okay, would it?
No – that’s what you’re here, why he’s here – to protect you.
It would just be doing his job.
He presses down on the handle and slowly opens the door, breath caught in his throat. It takes his eyes a moment to adjust to the dark, the lamp in the living room not quite reaching as far as your bed, but eventually he can make out your face – as peaceful as he’s ever seen it.
You’re on your side. The position doesn’t look like it would be comfortable with your arm still strapped up in the sling, but it’s testimony to how well the sleeping pills are working. Your other arm is up by your face, hand clenched in a tight fist around something. He steps forward without thinking, curious what it could be.
Your fingers are gripped tightly around his watch.
And there’s a pain in his chest that feels like they’re gripped around his heart as well.
That settles it - he’s not gonna tell you about the hacked CCTV feed. He will tell you that Hunnigan hasn’t searched your place yet, that they’ve restarted the surveillance department – she’d asked him to ask you if you knew anything about the servers since they were appeared to be working from square one – but that was it.
Leon steps back with unnecessary caution, leaving the bedroom as silently as he entered and shuts the door with a soft click. He takes a deep breath, pats down his pockets again and heads out to circle the perimeter.
And, just like after you kissed his cheek, he does it twice.
--
You wake up after another peaceful and dreamless sleep, though it still takes a moment to remember where you are as you stare up at the unfamiliar ceiling. You wonder if tomorrow you’ll not experience that flicker of panic, just get up and accept that you’ll be picking today’s outfit out of a selection of clothes that you’re not sure if anyone’s worn before you.
You feel sore, as seems to be becoming the norm, but with unusually stiff fingers on your good hand. It seems you’ve clutched Leon’s watch all night. You’d fallen asleep quite quickly – all thanks to those sleeping pills – but you remember looking at it when you’d first got in the bed, the seconds ticking by lulling you to sleep. The fact that you’ve held it for so long reminds you of when you were a kid and snuggled up with a stuffed toy for comfort, except instead of something soft and cuddly, it’s what appears to be a top of line timepiece. There’s a lot of information contained on the face of the dial but there’s the time is the only one you really care about – 0906.
You get to your feet, raising your good arm to a grunt of protest as you try and run your fingers through your hair in lieu of a mirror. Huh, that pain’s new. Your hair is definitely due a wash now, but that’s an issue for later. You pull on a pair of sweatpants one-handed – you’ll be a pro soon, you’re sure of it – and put Leon’s watch in the pocket for safekeeping. It’d be difficult to try and navigate the door handle with it still gripped in your good hand and you’d hate to scratch it up.
You open the door cautiously – you hadn’t seen Leon asleep yet, but he must do at some point. Maybe you should offer to alternate the sofa and the bed? Though you have a feeling that he’s far too much of a gentleman to accept.
Or there’ll be something in the rules that prohibits that.
There’s no danger of waking him though - the agent in question is performing sit-ups in the middle of the living room floor, facing the other way. Muscular arms behind his head as he lets out little puffs of exertion at the exercise, alternating sides as he twists.
Wary that you don’t want to be caught staring, you shut the door with more force than necessary behind you and greet him with a smile when he looks over his shoulder.
“Morning, Leon.”
“Dove!” He doesn’t even sound out of breath. “Morning. Sleep okay?” He jumps up to his feet before taking a couple of steps over in your direction. There’s a grin on his face at the sight of you – makes you feel giddy.
“Yeah, thanks. How about you?”
“That’s good. Yeah, I slept fine.” He nods. It’s not a lie – he did sleep fine for the position he forced himself to maintain all night, despite the slight crick in his neck.
“Is that how you usually start your mornings?”
One of the arms you’d been admiring goes up to rub the back of his head again. “Kinda. I usually go for a run, but…”
“But you can’t leave me on my own.” You finish, smile dropping a little. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be - I’m not.” He drops his arm back down, casting an eye over a watch that’s not there. “Hey, you hungry? I can get breakfast started. Oatmeal again?”
“Sure.” You nod, fishing his watch out of your pocket and holding it out to him. “Thanks again for this. It was nice to wake up and know the time this morning.”
“Don’t mention it. You can, er, you know, keep it. If you like.” He can’t get the image of you fast asleep last night, clutching it close to your face. He knows it was most likely the sleeping pills meaning you’d just passed out with it in your hand more than anything deeper, but, hey, a guy can pretend.
“I’ll be okay, I can get the time off the TV during the day.” You hold it out again with insistence. “But maybe… maybe I could have it for the night again?”
“Deal.” Leon hastily agrees, his fingers brushing yours as he takes back the watch before fastening it around his wrist. “Breakfast coming right up.”
You take the opportunity to duck into the bathroom as he heads towards the kitchen – your heart warmed once more by the sight of the blob of toothpaste sat ready and waiting on your toothbrush.
--
“And, finally, oatmeal.” He places it down on the coffee table, alongside your coffee, a glass of water and your morning dose of painkillers.
“Thank you.” You lean forward to pick up the spoon, smiling back at the face that Leon’s drizzled in honey atop your breakfast again.
“Nah, pleasure’s all mine.” He calls over his shoulder as he picks up his own bowl from the kitchen. He hesitates for a second, before choosing to sit the other end of the sofa to you, rather than the opposite one.
“You know, I don’t get to do this very often. It’s nice.”
“Mm,” you swallow a spoonful of oatmeal. “Thought you said you’d been in lots of safe houses.”
“A fair amount. But, no, not that part. I mean, eating breakfast with someone.” “So…” You stir the spoon around the bowl, hoping it might prove a perfect segway into something you’d been wondering. “..there’s no-one at home for you?”
“Me?” He seems to scoff at the idea. “Nope.”
“Me neither.”
“Yeah, I figured.” He replies casually, before his blue eyes widen in alarm at how it might come across. “
“I mean, just by the fact that you hadn’t mentioned anyone at your apartment that morning and you hadn’t asked any of those sorta questions, you know, if they’d been told about what happened, where you are...”
He’s flustered, feels like he’s really putting his foot in his mouth this morning. He can take the lead in the interrogation of some of the world’s most despicable humans, for goodness’ sake, he should be able to talk to a pretty girl.
“Yeah, I figured.” You tease back and he swears he feels the weight lift off his shoulders.
The two of you eat in silence for a moment when curiosity gets the better of you. “So, you didn’t eat breakfast with the… others?”
“Nope.” His tone is firm as he recalls some of his previous charges. “Certainly didn’t make them it either. Trust me – they were nowhere near as nice or as deserving of my protection as you are, Dove.” The comment makes your head tingle.
“It’s all been people ‘realising’ how deep they’d sank but only grew a conscience to save their own skin. Hell, you might have even performed surveillance on some of them. A lot of criminals finally show backbone when they realise their time is running out.”
“Well, I’m glad to make a change – both for sharing breakfast and …safe house occupancy with.”
“A nice change,” he mumbles, but you still hear.
--
After breakfast, you go to shower and Leon sets himself to task with the dishes once again, says he did his last perimeter check before nine. Removing the sling proves trickier than yesterday – when you go to tug off the Velcro your opposite shoulder smarts with a similar pain of that morning, causing you to hiss through your teeth, something which the painkillers from breakfast don’t seem to have alleviated.
You step into the cubicle after undressing – the hot water immediately somewhat soothing on your bruised shoulders but you still struggle to get what you now deem as your good arm high enough to even entertain the possibility of washing your hair.
You try and avoid your reflection in the mirror when you dress, though you know you’ll have to confront your hair at some point. Unfortunately, you catch a glimpse – a greasy mop sat upon your head that makes your heart sink.
There must be a trick to it – other people must wash their hair one-handed all the time, but maybe they can lift an arm above their head. If you were home, you’d go to a salon, you think – an expensive you would deem necessary for your sanity.
A thought flashes across your mind – a ridiculous one. Leon is already doing so much for you, surely this would be completely over the line.
But you could… ask, couldn’t you? The worst he could do was say no, it would be awkward, and maybe there’s a hat in the duffel bag you’ve yet to discover.
You open the bathroom door, but don’t make to step over the threshold. Leon looks over from the sofa – dishes now drying in the rack besides the sink - and clocks your hesitation.
“Need a hand with the sling?”
Are you really going to ask him this?
You’ll break at some point - you know you will, so why not get it over with now? You’re a regimented two-day wash kinda girl and it’s day three. Not to be completely vain, but you’re covered with bruises and cuts, dressed in less than flattering clothes that aren’t yours and it would be nice to feel somewhat decent about something in your appearance.
Especially with the handsome company you’re keeping. Hell, Leon could be a model, a hair model too. There’d been shampoo and conditioner in the shower and you certainly hadn’t used it.
“Dove?” You’ve taken too long to reply again, getting stuck in your spiralling thoughts.
“I know this isn’t what you’re here for.” The words tumble out of your mouth before you can think further.
“Okay…” Leon's eyebrow is raised, a curious smile now fixed on his lips as he gets to his feet.
“And say no, obviously. Please. Just… I’d like to wash my hair.” You drop your eyes then – maybe it’ll be easier if you talk to your feet rather staring into his kind eyes?
"Right."
“And I’d… You know, I’d go to a salon and get it done there if we weren’t… here.”
“You’d like me to help you wash your hair?” There’s a tone of amusement or maybe disbelief in his tone.
Hearing him say it aloud makes you doubt the entire exercise, your heart begin to pound at your stupidity. “Sorry. No, I don’t know what I was thinking. It was stupid to ask-“
“Hey, no, it makes sense.” He soothes, immediately wanting to ease your frustrations. “You can’t lift your arm above your head, right? My fault for not thinking about that.”
You look up then, seeing the sincerity on his face – like it truly was his fault that you couldn’t wash your own damn hair.
“I can do that, Dove. I don’t see why not.”
“Are you sure?”
“Mm-hm. As you said, if you were anywhere else right now, you could go to a salon and whilst I can’t promise their quality, I seem to do all right with my own.” He shrugs. “You thinking over the sink?”
He doesn’t know why he asks – it’s hardly like you’re going to ask him to get in the shower with you.
Is it?
“I think so.” You look around the living area, though you’re well acquainted with what feels like every square inch of it now. “Though it might be a little awkward since we don’t have any chairs.”
He snaps his fingers. “Nah, there might be one in the garage, actually. Lemme check.”
He barely makes it into the garage when his cell vibrates in his pocket – one new message from Hunnigan.
Any server information for me?
Leon finds the folding chair nestled at the side of the washer and dryer and hesitates over the text back.
He’ll wash your hair – seeing how torn up you’d been about even asking him had made him feel awful - then he’ll give you the updates and ask about the servers.
He picks up the chair and tucks it under one arm, swiftly typing out a message on his cell and clicks send.
Not yet – Dove’s still asleep.

please be okay
sephiroth (pre nibelheim) x reader with no pronouns used
angst with a happy ending, reader is mentioned being shorter than him
Tumblr media
you felt the momentary shake under your feet before any news of what actually occurred had made its way around the facility. it was a tremor that maybe you shouldn’t have questioned when this deep in a shinra facility, let alone in the public security wing. it’s entirely possible 2nd and 3rd class soldiers are destroying a training room and some of those around you hadn’t even batted an eye but there’s a dreadful pit in your stomach telling you something was so terribly wrong and as quickly as it had come and gone, your walk back to the first class office turned into a full blown run.
“what the hell was that?” your words fill the room the second the doors are open enough and with each quick step you’re making your way to the desk lazard sits behind. as soon as the doors close behind you, the alarms outside begin to blare.
angeal is standing facing lazard, buster sword attached to his back and his arms folded. you can’t see either of their expressions but the seriousness of the situation is evident by how thick the air in the room feels, the tension it builds forcing you to slow your steps. you quickly glance around and note the lack of anyone else around. genesis left for a mission outside of midgar earlier today so that’s to be expected but you saw sephiroth this morning and no other classes of soldiers are around either. it’s only you three.
“a mako line in the building exploded,” lazard answers, his voice seemingly as calm as ever but his brows are drawn in tightly, giving a bit of his emotions away from behind his hands that are folded in front of his face.
your eyes widen. “it exploded?” you ask with emphasis, noting his choice of words. not a leak or even a burst but an explosion.
where is sephiroth? you want to ask immediately after, your stomach already tying in knots, keeping you from asking in fear of the answer but praying to whatever god will listen that either of the men next to you will tell you he’s not in the building for one reason or another.
lazard nods, unfolding his hands and turning his computer monitor to show you a green hued screen displaying the view of the security camera outside of the medical section of this wing. it’s on fire, getting hazy through the smoke clouding the lens but you can make out troopers and other staff struggling to leave for more reasons than just the flames, unable to breathe the little air there was with such high concentration of mako still flowing into it.
you can see the sparkling particles on the screen as it takes over every free bit of space, swirling with the fire like an ethereal flame, and it makes you swallow thickly the longer it unfolds before you but you’re not even breathing at all when angeal finally speaks.
“sephiroth went in to see if the shut off valve made it through the explosion.”
the world follows suit of your lungs and stops completely, only the heavy force of your painfully slow heartbeats giving you any kind of proof that you weren’t frozen in this horrific moment but rather actively living in it.
when the air returns to your lungs, burning and aching, you don’t say anything to lazard or angeal before running at full speed out the door and into the chaos of public security. your hands are shaking as you reach for your phone in your pocket and dial sephiroths number, holding back the wet sting of your eyes. maybe it’s ridiculous to be nearly in tears worried over shinras strongest soldier and if you were thinking more logically, out of everyone a first class soldier would be the most likely to survive so much mako exposure and get past the flames quickly but it didn’t matter to you.
not when the force of the aching in your heart nearly rips it completely in two because it’s him, the man who has been burned into your very being from the first the moment he captured your heart without even knowing it. he still doesn’t know. would he accept it if he did? you push the thought away. it can’t be at the front of your mind when all this anxious worry uncontrollably swirls within you and is taking over your every thought.
pick up dammit.
the phone rings and rings and rings and you feel the bile in your stomach rolling but when you’re about to hang up, he finally picks up on the other line, calling your name in a way that almost convinces you that it’s okay. but its so very not okay.
“are you somewhere safe?” he asks and you can’t believe how worried about you he seems when he’s the one in danger. he’s not hiding it in his normally deep and collected tone either, you can hear it in his words.
“y-yes,” you try to will it not to but your voice still shakes. “but sephiroth-”
“good,” he interrupts you with relief and the echo of his quick steps fill the split moment of quiet between you.
you’re trying to find the words to speak into the universe so he’ll make it out of this, make it back to you.
“stay put,” he requests before hanging up, knowing you well enough by now that you already weren’t doing that but hoping maybe his words would convince you all the same.
your jaw clenches and you pick up the pace, holding your phone at your side as if it was his hand keeping him tethered to you, any part of your sanity echoing what you know to be true; how strong and resilient he is. he could make it through anything.. right? he has to..
there’s a barricade of troopers already beginning to form a good distance away from the explosion and you are no exception to their order to not let anyone through. not that it stopped you from trying but you weren’t even sure what your plan was if you did get past them. run into the mako riddled infirmary in search of him? possibly get in his way because there was no way you are as fast as he is? but fuck.. you just needed to be closer. closer to where he’d exit any minute now - because it had to be any minute now right? closer to him in case he called back and needed you, which was a silly thought in and of itself but even if your strength could not match his, you would do anything to help him right now.
“lazard tell them i can get through!” you’re losing it, absolutely helpless and it’s killing you. your tone says as much when your boss comes into view, having chased after you at angeals heels.
he looks at you with pity or empathy in his eyes, you really can’t tell which it is in your state but it’s a flicker before his face falls back into a serious expression and he’s firm in his answer. “no.”
before you can protest, the bubbling lid barely held over your emotions ready to crash into the ground and spill over, another explosion shakes the floors and walls, harder than the last time now that you’re closer to the source. you easily keep your balance but you feel dizzy at how quickly you turn around to head straight from it and nauseous when you see more smoke billowing down the long hallway.
you don’t make it a single full step before angeals strong grasp is around your wrist, keeping you in place. there’s no hiding what’s within you when it’s so evident in your eyes, all full of anguish and desperation, and no words are shared between you when you look back at him, just a knowing look that tells you about duty and honor above all else. even above love.
biting your bottom lip, you tear your gaze and your hand away from him and use all the willpower you have to keep your feet grounded but every passing moment your muscles scream to move.
two slow minutes pass by and the security officers blocking the way begin to urge you back more at the orders you hear their commanding officer give them but you don’t budge and leave no room for question with the biting glare you give them when they try to touch you to get you to move.
another minute ticks by, your brain not keeping up with your racing heart, neither in sync with the other as you take in breath after breath and beg yourself not to cry. this is agony like you had never felt before. like you were losing a part of yourself you had never had a hold of to begin with but there’s no regret. not yet anyway. just painful impatience while you hold onto hope and everything you have ever felt for sephiroth like it's a lifeline, until it’s being crushed in your grasp.
“i’m going in there,” you hear angeal say from behind you.
you’re ready to turn on your heels and demand to go with him when your eyes catch the faintest movement in the smoke. on bated breath you watch a tall frame emerge from the smoke and use all of your strength to not collapse under the weight of your relief when you can see sephiroth clearly, making long strides right towards you. he’s marked in soot, his armor charred and he’s practically dripping in mako from head to toe. it clings to him, falling like snow behind him in his steps but he’s alive and hardly looks fazed or out of breath.
you cannot say the same for yourself. ignoring the yelling of the troopers who demand for you to stay back when your legs carry you as quickly as they can to him, you look the same as the mess you feel inside but you don’t care who's around to see or what they might think. all you can focus on are the cyan eyes of the man you love in front of you and the taut tether that’s pulling you right into his arms.
throwing your arms around his neck, your entire body crashes against his but in his infinite strength, he holds steady. you can feel his arms hesitate to wrap around you in return but when they do, he holds you with such tender strength that both soothes you and breaks down the last of your barely held together demeanor with one arm strong arm wrapped around your middle, his other hand cradling the back of your skull.
“you’re okay,” you choke out like you had to hear it spoken out loud to believe it, feeling a few of your held back tears fall and melt against his cheek pressed against yours. a heartbeat echoes between you and you aren’t sure if it’s yours or his but underneath the smoke you can faintly smell his familiar leather and floral scent. he’s warm, so warm, his hair soft, his breaths steady against your own that try to match his. “you’re okay.”
his hold on you tightens and he shifts to stand nearly at his full height, lifting you onto the very tips of your toes, your bodies now completely flush, but you don’t struggle to hold onto him and he doesn’t let you go a bit. the large hand on the back of your head tangles into your hair and quietly, like the words were only meant for you, he whispers, “i’m okay.”

Note
Just realized this is better as a ask than a comment..
Does AJ know that he has powers and if he doesn't, do you plan on him accidentally revealing his powers to the group & to himself somehow?
Oh boy, this is gonna take A LOT of writing-
Here's the TLDR; AJ didn't knew he was half-umbraling until he found out in the worst way possible (finding the lab and all the proof of his real identity in it with Gabby), he got his original appearance back thanks to strong emotions (dw, he can control his powers now) and now Hayley knows he's still alive and will do anything to get him under her control, even if it has to involve the other controlled experiments (ahem, Mx. Bloody, ahem) or AJ's friends.
Aaand below's the full version with a few spoilers(?) lolz.
Thanks to the vaccine that he got applied with the solution Luana and Marla made, AJ didn't knew. It's like his memories with his true features were blurred out/blocked completely. There was a fault on the "solution", though: his powers (to their full extent) and his original appearance were eventually going to come back, it just needed a big, explosive emotion.
AJ was always relatively calm so their parents thought they were gonna stay that way forever... until they and Gabby decided to explore the Forest that connects Axle City and GearVille and found the "abandoned" laboratory. The two found all of the laboratory papers with AJ's information, some of the security cameras that managed to keep functioning showed the whole chaos that happened when Omar confronted Hayley (upcoming part of AJ's lore) and the memories suddenly came back to AJ and, well, they snapped. Gabby had to get them out of there before Hayley found them because YES, THAT FUCKER'S STILL ALIVE (except she's not... exactly human anymore. That will be shown soon).
Everyone let AJ take some time in her room and by the time she came out she was already in her true form. Yayyy, identity crisis /hj (she soon learned how to turn back into a human appearance and how to control and improve her powers without needing to be near the Element U-18, but she's still trying to process everything). Hayley, on the other hand, is now using some of the experiments she has under her control to try and get AJ back; ofc, she improves this mind control power thingy and now she can control anyone, not only the experiments.

Non is the one behind the mask and Jin is our living for now proof of that
Tumblr media
So our homeboy just found out that no, Non didn’t ride off into the sunset with teacher Keng, but based on what we learned in episode 10 was handed over to Uncle Joe and vanished. And Jin’s initial reaction to this reveal isn’t horror at the thought that Non might already be dead, but anger at how the story of Non’s supposed escape with a teacher has affected his family?? Which is sweet, to care about them, but you just learned that your friend has really disappeared, so maybe focus on that first? But at least this reaction is consistent with what we’ve seen from him so far: Jin's response is emotional and explosive. It checks.
And then Tee drops the bomb - Non is dead. This should have been a huge shock for Jin, who was the only one to still hold on to the belief that Non was still out there, alive. Reactions of Tan and Phee is understandable; they have had years to accept that Non is most likely no longer alive, but Jin BELIEVED. So, I fully expected him to lash out, to start yelling at Tee, to start a fight. And what Jin gives me? Nothing.
Tumblr media
Except for a murderous look, he does not react at all to the news about the death of someone he claims to care about and feel guilty towards.  The character who shown to be impulsive, to react without thinking, whose emotions can be explosive DOESN’T SHOW US ANY REACTION. Which, of cource, is a reaction on itself, so my question is: Jin, sweetie, do you maybe have something to share with class?
Speaking of murderous looks. We’ve already seen them twice:
in the first episode, when Phee puts the tape on
And everyone from the original group looks various degrees of uncomfortable, especially after asked about Non, but not Jin. He is too busy trying to murder everyone with the glare until the mention of the camera snaps him out of it.
Tumblr media
in the second episode, when the gang discusses what to do next
And again, while everyone’s anxiety is almost palpable, Jin is just standing there, looking disgusted by everyone but not in the slightest bothered by the fact that someone got Por impaled?? Someone left marks on his arms! The conversation isn’t merely about the possibility of Non’s ghost; it’s about the real, tangible danger lurking in the woods. And yet, Jin doesn’t look scared or concerned in any way, too busy trying to once again commit murder with the glare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knife
The marks on Por’s arms are the main reason I’m convinced that Non is the one hiding behind the mask. It's possible that Tan somehow slipped out of the living room and lured Por into the trap, but what about the marks? We’ve seen several times that Tan is one to outsource his murder, not too eager to harm with his own hands. Even after Tee’s confession about Non’s death, Tan doesn’t attempt to snatch the gun and kill Tee himself. So why get personal with Por? To convince everyone that it wasn’t an accident? But cuts don’t look ghosty; if anything, it’s a proof that a real, leaving person is behind it. And who has all the reasons to get personal with Por? NON And it with the same knife he used three years ago – a knife that someone present at the scene after Non got dragged away had to pick up and keep until now.
I am also mildly convinced that the knife attack is the main reason why Jin lied to the police in the first place. If he had admitted that Non was with them that day, everyone else would have probably said, 'Oh yes, he was with us, and he attacked us with the knife. He was screaming about killing us all, poor Top even got a scar. Here are the security camera recordings as proof.' We've already established that Jin is not the best decision-maker, so I can see how, from his perspective, lying to the police seemed like a better option.
And isn’t it interesting how Jin was the one who first noticed the cuts and also the one who took the knife in his hand to compare it with the cuts?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jin, dear, no one said anything about someone hiding in the house...

I'm unsure which one of the brothers is responsible for this death, but it is interesting how closely it mirrors one of the scenes in episode 7.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the past, Por sends Non to get food on Uncle Dang's bike, while he himself starts shooting. In the present, Uncle Dang dies delivering food for the boys on the same bike, simultaneously extinguishing their last chance of escape.
Tumblr media
In the past, everyone was so eager to exclude Non and shoot the movie he wrote without him. In the present, they are willing to do anything just to get out of this place, and Por, bleeding out on the couch, needs it more than anyone. Sorry, but it's too late; this time around, you'll have to play your part the way Non wants you to.
Episode 7 is also where this dialogue between Jin and Por happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know that logically Phee and Tan were the ones who slipped in the cassette, but were they also the ones who created it? Or did they just find it when they came to the house for the first time to scout it out? Because the last scene with Jin running out of the house was shot after Non's disappearance. It wasn't merely an old version; Someone intentionally added Non's scene post-credits. And who was the one doing all the cutting? Right.
Hallucinations
Jin’s hallucinations were what sold me on the "Non is alive" theory. Everyone who thinks Non is already dead also sees some version of Non/masked murderer. Not Jin, of course; he convinced Non to be alive and well, somewhere far away with teacher Keng. Oh wait… How is it possible that he believes something terrible happened to teacher Keng, but not to Non? That the video he took is the cause of teacher Keng’s death, but not Non’s? Haven’t they supposedly run off together? Unless Jin knows that Non is alive. Unless Non told Jin that Mr. Keng was killed by the mafia.
It also would explain Jin’s reaction after Phee confession.
Tumblr media
The person you have a lot of complicated feelings about
so many that you decide the best time to bring up your past situationship is while you both are trapped in a creepy temple. One also doesn’t try to bite off the dick of someone they are indifferent towards
just confessed to being Non's ex-boyfriend and getting close to you to get information about him, and your first reaction is not a "Was Everything Between Us a Lie?" rage but a sad puppy "So You Never Saw Us As Friends?" Once again, Jin, sweetie, we need to talk about your priorities; also about the fact that you not once looked surprised about the whole thing.
Fun fact: One of Jin's listed hobbies is camping, so hypothetically he should know his way around the woods, yet he doesn’t even attempt to help Phee while they are looking for the way out of the forest. The only thing he does is complain and cling to Phee in a very damsel-in-distress fashion. And still manages to be the one who points in the right direction in the end. I'm not even sure if Jin’s shoulder dislocation is genuine because if horror movies have taught me anything, it's to never trust a character who injures themselves while escaping a murderer, especially when they then very conveniently trip over the air at just the right moment for another character to drop their weapon.
To sum it up:

Yesterday evening around 7 pm local time, an explosion rocked the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City. Within minutes, information about what had happened was distorted by partisan narratives, disinformation, and a rush to be first to post about the blast. Add in mainstream media outlets parroting official statements without verifying their veracity, and the result was a chaotic information environment in which no one was sure what had happened or how.
“There’s just been this massive sort of pressure to get videos out there, get your take, get your analysis, and it’s like a perfect storm for chaos,” Kolina Koltai, a senior researcher at open source intelligence (OSINT) news outlet Bellingcat, tells WIRED.
Moments after the explosion was reported, Gaza’s health ministry claimed the blast was caused by an Israeli rocket attack and that hundreds of people had died, marking what would be among the deadliest attacks of the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, which controls the Palestinian territory of Gaza. News organizations such as The New York Times and Reuters ran with the claim, pushing notification alerts to people’s phones with the news that Israeli rockets had killed Palestinians sheltering in a hospital in Gaza. “Breaking news: Israeli strike on hospitals kill hundreds, Palestinian officials say,” The New York Times alert read.
Soon after those push notifications went out, the Israeli military said its intelligence officers had tracked rockets fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an armed militant group in Gaza that is aligned with Hamas against Israel but often acts independently. Israeli military officials said they observed Islamic Jihad rockets passing the hospital at the time of the strike, adding that it was these projectiles—not an Israeli rocket—that hit the facility’s parking lot.
News organizations quickly changed their headlines to reflect the counterclaim from Israel and pushed out more notifications to their audiences. The updated headline from The New York Times read: “At least 500 dead in blast at Gaza hospital, Palestinians say.”
This was only the beginning of the confusion.
In the hours after the attack, @Israel, the official Israeli account on X (formerly Twitter), posted a video it claimed was proof that the explosion was the result of a misguided rocket launched by Islamic Jihad militants. But within minutes, Aric Toler, a former Bellingcat researcher who now works for The New York Times, pointed out that the time stamp on the video showed 8 pm local time, a full hour after the explosion took place.
“When you see people in such a capacity putting out a claim, walking it back, putting out a video, deleting the video, it makes it tough, not just for us to do our job, but even for the public to find out what’s going on,” Koltai says.
The post on Israel’s official account was subsequently edited to remove the video while maintaining its claim that the attack was not the result of an Israeli strike.
Meanwhile, social media was flooded with videos and images that claimed to provide proof of the origin of the attacks, with many accounts making definitive judgments about those they claimed were responsible for the attack, all without any actual proof.
For experts in the OSINT community who have spent years working on incidents just like this, the confusion and misinformation were frustrating. Figuring out what happened takes time, and the deluge of misinformation only made that work more difficult.
“It’s because we are trying to track a rocket, at night, via a couple of livestreams, a security camera, and a phone camera,” an OSINT researcher, who posts anonymously on social media using the handle OSINTtechnical, tells WIRED. “Oh, and there are bad actors purposely trying to muddy the waters. I would say we still have an acceptable number of resources to see into Gaza, but it takes some time to parse everything to a complete degree.”
The researcher adds that their job was made infinitely more difficult by media outlets running with the claim that Israel was responsible. “That blows everything out of the water,” OSINTtechnical says.
Koltai says she began trying to figure out what had happened within hours of the incident, before her colleagues in Europe took over today. Despite being among the first to begin investigating the incident, as of this afternoon Bellingcat had still not confirmed how the attack happened or who was responsible.
Similarly, the BBC Verify team published its analysis of the explosion based on the available information but has been unable to conclude what exactly happened. A number of videos captured with mobile phones and circulated on social media appear to show the moment of the explosion from different angles. A livestream operated by Al Jazeera shows two flashes, one further away from the camera and one much closer, which some claim shows the rocket launching, followed by the explosion. Footage captured this morning shows the hospital’s parking lot, and what appears to be a small impact crater. Footage shows damage to a number of cars, but only minor damage to the exterior of the hospital building.
Today, The New York Times reported that US officials said they have “multiple strands of intelligence,” including infrared satellite imagery, indicating that the deadly blast was caused by the Islamic Jihad group, though that evidence has not been released publicly. US president Joe Biden, who is meeting with officials in Israel today, echoed Israel’s claim that its military did not fire the rocket that hit the hospital. “Based on the information we have seen today, it appears the result of an errant rocket fired by a terrorist group in Gaza,” he said.
In the days since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, people claiming to be OSINT practitioners have emerged on social media who are much more willing to make conclusive findings almost immediately than people who have a long history of conducting OSINT work.
This new group is “publishing analysis as quickly as possible when events are taking place, in an attempt to compete for public attention,” Francesco Sebregondi, a forensic architect who helps investigate human rights abuses through a technique known as forensic architecture, tells WIRED. “This is of course detrimental to the fundamental goal of citizen-led open source investigations.”
The purpose of OSINT investigations is to independently verify information “and to enable counter-investigations of authoritative arguments and sometimes misleading official accounts,” Sebregondi says.
Sebregondi says OSINT accounts that rush to post analyses prematurely not only mislead their followers but help bolster the narrative of political actors who may be “counting on the eagerness of some OSINT actors to use any image, material, or data to quickly publish new content or ‘analysis’—and thereby more or less directly support its version of the events.”
Aside from the apparent bragging rights of being first, there is also now a financial incentive to post updates before anyone else because if you’re “first and put out a hot take even if you’re maybe not correct you can actually get paid out for it,” Koltai says, referring to X’s revenue-sharing program.
Fact-checking and open source investigations have long been seen as a way to hold platforms accountable by debunking disinformation that spreads unchecked on social media, but the Israel-Hamas war has shown how the language of OSINT investigators has been co-opted by self-interested parties, says Caroline Orr, a behavioral scientist and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Maryland who tracks disinformation online.
“I think one of the most disturbing aspects of studying disinfo is when you realize that even fact-checking has become weaponized,” Orr wrote on X. “Most people don’t care about the truth about the hospital being bombed; they just care about finding a truth to use against the other side.”

Hudson and Rex S06E15
So, as I’m sure a lot of people have already figured out, we just watched the intended season finale. CityTV, you better hope I never get to cross that ocean. I mean, every season finale aside from the two where Peter Mitchell was in charge (coincidence?) were run of the mill episodes which could have fit anywhere in the season. Maybe it will be fitting for this season to start and end with viewers wondering what they watched. But I’m getting ahead of myself here and I might be wrong. Let’s focus on 15 which may very well be the best episode of the season for me, probably tied with S06E04.
The spoiled scene with Charlie and Sarah’s mentioned anniversary. Rex totally wants to stay with Jesse after their “celebration”. I’m trying to figure whether Jesse is pretending to be naive or is actually being naive about it. Or if the whole response is the writers being unable to outright say that Charlie and Sarah really spent their anniversary having sex all night.
Speaking of, two years, Charlie Hudson? What are you waiting for, an epiphany to hit you in the head? Oh, wait.
What do you mean, we didn’t save the day? There’s a dead woman? Huh?
Nice bomb explosion by the way.
“My bosses are gonna hate this but tell me more”. lol Jesse
How did we end up as security detail for the woman who might become prime minister?
Look, I like when there’s a case where they’re toying with supernatural elements. That’s why I loved Castle so much. And Jesse is always eager to believe. Charlie on the other hand looks like he’s got tons to say on the subject. Rex too. Apparently he doesn’t believe in time travel either.
Any so called time traveler should come back to the present with the numbers for the lottery. That would be ample proof for me :P
Can I say how much I like the camera work on this one? Good directing by John Vatcher.
Rex is getting so many pats in this episode. Deserved.
This campaign manager is on par with the Veep campaign managers. And by that I mean he’s ruthless and self-centered and I want to punch him.
That food now possibly has dog hair in it.
I come from a country where it’s pretty normal to put a musical montage right in the middle of an episode (even a dance number), so I’m not going to say anything about the needless song.
Thunk! There goes Charlie. Again. I’ll spare y’all the concussion speech. Besides, time moves in mysterious ways in this show, maybe it’s already been six months since episode 11.
Seriously, why do you tell Rex to chase a lead if you can’t survive being ten feet away from him?
I can’t remember the last time any of my shows put a bomb vest on one of the main characters. The latest that I remember was FBI but it was on a minor character. That had been a great episode too.
I haven’t yet decided whether that bomb vest looks too amateurish. To be fair, given who the culprit was, it shouldn’t look professional.
Sarah finding Charlie as he has a bomb vest on is like, the best thing that has happened lately on this show. Her look. His look as he realizes that he’s got his entire family now in this (and the mantra of no, no, no that must be playing in his head, I’m filling the blanks, don’t mind me). The slight zooming in of the camera in both of their shots, denoting the direness of the situation.
I was almost waiting for Charlie to say “this isn’t as enjoyable as it was last night” as Sarah was touching him while she’s checking the bomb vest. It writes itself, come on.
In my last review post I wrote that I was hoping the earphones would serve for Charlie to call Sarah and tell her goodbye or something like that. This certainly exceeded my expectations.
We’re a bit late for love confessions under duress but when Charlie was asked about whether Sarah was his wife and he replied “Not yet”, that was a nice moment. At least we know where his head is at.
Their silent communication. They’re so in sync.
Elsewhere, Joe and Jesse are quietly trying to figure out a way to save innocent people and somehow not get their friend blown up.
Superintendent Joe Donovan making airplane noises. I laughed so much.
They are holding hands as they’re walking to their doom! Oh, by the way, interesting music choice. I wonder if it’s score created for the show or non-original music. I’ve certainly not heard it before on the show.
Goodbye kiss! I love it here. And look at the shot of Charlie and Rex leaving as Sarah is staying behind.
Tumblr media
Me: no way it’s the convict. Five minutes later: it’s the fucking convict!!! Ten minutes later: it’s not the convict???
Ha, Charlie using the mute button which is pretty convenient but almost no one uses on calls.
Okay, they fooled me with the bomber. But the takedown went pretty much as I expected. Nice communication with Rex through hand signals, again. Although the detonator flying off the lady’s hand… anything could have happened.
Rex’s influence to the system will be more K9s lol. They may also have ensured unlimited funding for the SJPD.
Can the time traveling guy tell us if Charlie is going to propose anytime soon? Or is the “not yet” considered a non-proposal proposal?
This is the first time I’m hearing about the so called Alice in wonderland syndrome.
“Everybody needs a Rex”. Ah, yes. Our catchphrase.
Charlie, put the phone down. When is that man clocking out? Who’s going to make sure Rex is getting adequate rest? I need to talk to his superior. Joe!
Well, I kept saying that I wanted Charlie and Sarah to be in danger again together since they hadn’t after they had become a couple, and I got my wish, thank you, show. We could have had an aftermath scene with them but I’m not going to complain about it in an otherwise good episode.
Promo: I’m beyond frustrated that they keep shuffling the episodes and they wouldn’t even give it a rest when they got the season finale or the 100th episode on their hands. Today’s (yesterday’s) episode would have been a better 100th episode than The Rookie’s for sure (which is embarrassing for The Rookie). But instead we get to watch it as episode 99 and have a run of the mill case for the 100th, which, unless it ends up in a huge celebration scene, is going to fall flat. We basically end off exactly as we started, expect I now know this is 100% CityTV’s fault.
Speaking of, is CityTV even going to acknowledge that it’s the 100th episode? Is anyone? I’m obviously not expecting the magnitude of promotion ABC gave The Rookie or 911 this season (and that was a lot) but something that shows they’re not completely neglecting Hudson and Rex. It doesn’t seem like we’re getting renewal news anytime soon, so I’d settle for them celebrating the episodes they already filmed. There are quite a few production companies involved too, this does not only fall on CityTV. If Shaftesbury wants to celebrate this milestone, I won’t say no.

So I spent a while trying to figure out what the dramatic equivalent of “heads in a duffle bag” would be for a scenario where Red Hood’s first move in Gotham is to kidnap Bruce, and I settled on this:
This late on a Tuesday night, the Wayne Enterprises parking garage should be all but empty. Bruce still takes a moment to confirm it when he steps out of the elevator doors by glancing around like he has somehow forgotten where he parked, despite always parking in the spot reserved specifically for him.
There are a handful of blandly identical company cars all parked in a neat row across from the empty ADA accessible spots, and tucked away in the corner are a pair of branded utility vans for the company that has been repainting the conference rooms two at a time for the last three weeks. Bruce approved the building manager’s request to pay double the normal rate so the painting could be done after normal office hours and she wouldn’t have to deal with weeks of complaints about the smell of wet paint drying.
Nothing unexpected in his visual sweep. Bruce still makes a production of digging through his pockets for his keys—give the security team a laugh, if they happen to be watching at the moment—and then heads for his car. His footsteps echo off the concrete and empty space, but it’s still a bit surprising when his phone rings.
The ringtone lets him know before he’s even pulled the phone out that someone in his family is calling from a civilian line, which—given the current hour—should mean Alfred is calling. The caller ID displays Tim Drake instead.
Tim should be out with Dick right now, as Robin and Batman respectively, providing a documented alibi for Bruce while he was on a call with the Hong Kong WE executives to act enthusiastically supportive about, if a little confused by, their quarterly updates on the branch’s major initiatives. Even if Tim or Dick needed to call him on this phone while they were on patrol, they wouldn’t be doing it from Tim’s regular phone. Tim would never even bring it with him as Robin in the first place.
Threads of concern and apprehension coil through him, but it’s possible—something prevented Tim from heading out with Dick tonight. If he were sick, or injured, Alfred would have let him know already, but it’s possible something came up with school or his friends. Dick would be just fine handling a solo night in the Batman suit.
There’s no proof that anything is wrong yet. Bruce takes a steady breath and accepts the call. “Hey, Tim,” he says as he unlocks his car. “I’m—”
”Sorry,” a mechanized voice cuts in, and Bruce goes still, fingers curled around the driver door handle. “Tim’s not available right now.”
Tim.
“Who is this?” Bruce asks, as calmly as he can manage. It’s the matter of a heartbeat to push the volume buttons in the pattern that will start recording and tracing the call. He’s going to need to stall, to buy time for the programs to work—
“You’re going to want to step away from your car,” the voice says, as if Bruce hadn’t spoken.
Which implies that whoever this is has eyes on him via the security cameras. Or might even be—
beep beep BE—
Reflex cuts through conscious thought. Bruce lets go of the door handle and throws himself backwards, twisting away—
EEEEEP
—and the blast from the explosion catches him, tosses him into a disorienting, ear-ringing tumble.
Bruce can’t even track the impacts of his body against concrete. When he finally comes to a stop, he is prone, one arm crumpled under him, half his vision blurred and useless from the blood pouring into one of his eyes. His lungs can’t seem to draw full breath, and the whole soundscape of the world has gone wrong in a way that indicates some kind of damage to one, if not both, of his eardrums.
It takes him too long to realize he lost his grip on his phone. Bruce can’t see it, but as long as it didn’t break, it should still be recording and tracing. He has other ways to signal for help, and Bruce braces his free hand against the garage floor to try to get his knees under him.
A steel-toed boot stomps down between his shoulder blades, and Bruce’s chin slams into the concrete with enough force to rattle his teeth and knock what little air he’d been able to draw right back out of his lungs. He tries to twist out from underneath the weight, but there’s a hand in his hair, grinding his face into the ground, and a sharp pain in his neck swiftly follows, icy-hot and spreading.
Sedative, the clinical portion of his brain identifies even as he tries, and fails, to free himself. Coupled with the warning to move away from the car, that means kidnapping, not assassination. For him—but what happened to Tim?
There’s copper and iron in his mouth, and Bruce gasps through it, still struggling despite the strength fading from his body. But breathing comes slow, and slower, an artificially enforced calm, and Bruce tries to shove himself upright when the weight on his back lifts, but the best he can do is scrabble at the boot that comes into his field of vision.
The person he has grabbed weak hold of crouches down next to him. Bruce still can’t see out of one eye, and the angle is poor, but he has the impression of size and striking red and mechanical laughter before the world smears gray, then black.
Prompt:
Instead of Dick or Tim, Red Hood straight up goes for kidnapping Bruce Wayne and keeping him hostage just to see how desperate the birds get in trying to find him.
It’s a foolproof plan. Batman won’t blow his cover unless absolutely necessary, and “Brucie” would never know how to slip away from a crime lord of Red Hood’s caliber. It’s foolproof. It’s perfect. Jason can keep dropping hints and make threats towards the birds and watch Bruce squirm without consequences if he plays this right.
But then “Brucie” keeps begging him not to hurt his kids…

Russian nuclear weapons architecture
*I wonder if anyone will publish an architectural coffee-table book of these formerly-covert constructions.
(...)
The many documents first and foremost reveal the scope of the Russian modernization. They show deliveries of enormous quantities of steel, sand, cement, bricks and insulation. But also more sensitive things like IT systems, electrical installations and routing of water, heating and ventilation.
There are detailed descriptions of the security systems: Three layers of electric fences along the bases’ outer perimeter, sensors for seismic activity and radioactivity, explosion-proof doors and windows, reinforced concrete buildings, and alarm systems with magnetic contacts and infrared sensors. In some cases, even the type and locations of internal surveillance cameras on the buildings are specified.
The documents also reveal the facilities’ internal layout in great detail. They describe where the soldiers eat, sleep and use the toilet. It also describes where they relax, and what exercise equipment they use (primarily treadmills and hand weights), what games they play to pass the time (chess and checkers) as well as what signs hang on the walls (“Stop! Turn around! Forbidden zone!” or “The Military Oath” or “Rules for shoe care”). They describe which rooms of the basements store the protective gear, and where the weapons cabinets stand. And it’s written explicitly where the control rooms are located, and which buildings are connected to each other via underground tunnels.
“Material like this is the ultimate intelligence,” says Philip Ingram, former Colonel and leader of the 1 Military Intelligence Battalion in the British Army.
“If you can understand how the electricity is conducted or where the water comes from, and you can see how the different things are connected in the systems, then you can identify strengths and weaknesses and find a weak point to attack,” he says....

The Essential Guide to Industrial Cameras for Modern Automation
Tumblr media
In today's fast-paced manufacturing and automation industries, industrial cameras play a crucial role in ensuring precision, efficiency, and quality control. Unlike standard consumer cameras, these specialized devices are designed to withstand harsh environments while delivering high-resolution imaging for machine vision applications. This guide explores the key features, applications, and benefits of industrial cameras, helping businesses make informed decisions for their automation needs.
What Are Industrial Cameras?
Industrial cameras are advanced imaging devices specifically engineered for use in manufacturing, robotics, and inspection systems. They are built to operate reliably in demanding conditions, such as extreme temperatures, vibrations, and exposure to dust or moisture. These cameras integrate seamlessly with machine vision software to analyze images in real time, enabling automated decision-making in production lines.
Key Features of Industrial Cameras
High Resolution & Accuracy – Industrial cameras offer superior image quality with high-resolution sensors, ensuring precise detection of defects or measurements.
Robust Construction – Designed with durable materials to endure industrial environments, including IP-rated enclosures for dust and water resistance.
Fast Frame Rates – Capable of capturing high-speed processes, making them ideal for applications like motion tracking and rapid assembly inspections.
Advanced Connectivity – Support for GigE, USB3, and CoaXPress interfaces ensures seamless integration with industrial systems.
Software Compatibility – Compatible with machine vision platforms like HALCON, Cognex VisionPro, and OpenCV for real-time image processing.
Applications of Industrial Cameras
Industrial cameras are utilized across various sectors due to their versatility and reliability. Below are some of the most common applications:
1. Quality Control & Inspection
Automated visual inspection systems rely on industrial cameras to detect defects, measure dimensions, and verify product consistency in industries like automotive, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.
2. Robotics & Automation
Robotic arms equipped with industrial cameras can precisely identify and handle objects, improving efficiency in pick-and-place operations and assembly lines.
3. Medical & Life Sciences
In medical imaging and laboratory automation, industrial cameras assist in high-precision tasks such as cell analysis, surgical robotics, and diagnostic equipment.
4. Logistics & Barcode Reading
Warehouse automation systems use industrial cameras to scan barcodes, track inventory, and optimize sorting processes in distribution centers.
5. Traffic & Surveillance
Beyond manufacturing, industrial cameras are deployed in intelligent traffic systems for license plate recognition, traffic monitoring, and security surveillance.
Choosing the Right Industrial Camera
Selecting the best industrial camera depends on several factors, including resolution, speed, and environmental conditions. Here’s a quick guide to help with the decision-making process:
1. Determine the Required Resolution
Low to Medium Resolution (0.3MP – 5MP): Suitable for basic inspections, barcode reading, and simple object detection.
High Resolution (5MP – 20MP+): Necessary for detailed inspections, such as PCB defect detection or microscopic imaging.
2. Consider Frame Rate & Shutter Speed
For high-speed production lines, choose cameras with fast frame rates (100+ fps) to avoid motion blur.
Global shutter cameras are preferred for moving objects, while rolling shutter models work for static scenes.
3. Evaluate Environmental Conditions
If the camera will be exposed to dust, moisture, or extreme temperatures, opt for models with ruggedized housings (IP67 or higher).
For hazardous areas, explosion-proof industrial cameras may be required.
4. Check Compatibility & Integration
Ensure the camera supports industry-standard interfaces (GigE Vision, USB3 Vision) for easy connectivity.
Verify compatibility with existing machine vision software and processing units.
Future Trends in Industrial Cameras
As automation and AI continue to evolve, industrial cameras are also advancing with new technologies:
1. AI-Powered Vision Systems
Embedded AI allows industrial cameras to perform real-time object recognition and anomaly detection without external processing.
2. 3D Imaging & Depth Sensing
3D industrial cameras enhance precision in robotic guidance and volumetric measurements, improving automation accuracy.
3. Hyperspectral Imaging
Beyond traditional RGB imaging, hyperspectral industrial cameras can analyze material composition, useful in food sorting and recycling industries.
4. Edge Computing Integration
Modern industrial cameras now include onboard processing, reducing latency by analyzing images directly at the source.

How Airport Cargo Operations Work: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
Tumblr media
Airport cargo operations play a crucial role in the global supply chain, ensuring that goods are transported quickly and efficiently across countries and continents. From perishable food and medical supplies to high-value electronics and industrial machinery, airports handle an enormous variety of cargo daily. However, behind the seamless movement of freight lies a complex network of logistics, security measures, and technological advancements that keep airport cargo running smoothly.
In this article, we take a behind-the-scenes look at how airport cargo operations work, highlighting the key stages, challenges, and innovations shaping the industry.
1. Cargo Handling Facilities and Infrastructure
Airports have dedicated cargo terminals separate from passenger terminals to handle freight shipments. These terminals include:
Cargo warehouses – Storage areas for incoming and outgoing shipments.
Cold storage and perishable goods zones – Facilities that maintain temperature-sensitive items like vaccines, fresh produce, and seafood.
Customs clearance zones – Areas where authorities inspect and approve shipments before they leave or enter a country.
Freight forwarding offices – Spaces where logistics companies coordinate shipments and arrange transportation.
Modern airport cargo terminals are highly automated, using conveyor belts, robotic sorting systems, and scanning technologies to enhance efficiency.
2. Cargo Acceptance and Documentation
Before a shipment arrives at an airport, cargo must be properly documented and processed. The key steps include:
Booking and labeling – Shippers work with airlines and freight forwarders to book cargo space. Each package is labeled with a tracking number.
Customs documentation – Necessary paperwork, including invoices, bills of lading, and permits, is prepared to comply with import/export regulations.
Security screening – Every cargo shipment must go through security checks to detect any prohibited or hazardous materials.
Once the cargo is cleared, it moves into the warehouse for further processing.
3. Security and Safety Measures
Airport cargo security is a top priority, as shipments must be protected from theft, damage, and potential terrorist threats. Security protocols include:
X-ray scanning and canine inspections – High-tech scanners and sniffer dogs detect explosives, narcotics, or other banned substances.
Tamper-proof packaging – Cargo containers are sealed with security locks to prevent unauthorized access.
24/7 surveillance – Airport cargo zones are monitored by CCTV cameras and security personnel.
International regulations such as IATA (International Air Transport Association) and TSA (Transportation Security Administration) guidelines set strict security standards for cargo handling.
4. Loading and Aircraft Preparation
Once cleared, cargo is sorted based on weight, size, and destination before being loaded onto aircraft. There are two main types of air cargo transport:
Freighter aircraft – Dedicated cargo planes with large loading doors and a spacious interior designed exclusively for freight.
Belly cargo on passenger planes – Many passenger aircraft also transport cargo in the lower deck beneath the seating area.
Cargo is loaded using specialized pallet loaders, forklifts, and conveyor belts to ensure proper weight distribution. Incorrect loading can affect aircraft balance, making this process a critical safety step.
5. In-Flight Monitoring and Tracking
Advanced tracking technologies allow logistics teams to monitor shipments in real time. Cargo carriers use:
GPS and RFID tracking – Enables real-time location updates for shipments.
Temperature and humidity sensors – Essential for perishable or sensitive goods like pharmaceuticals and electronics.
Automated alerts – Airlines and shippers receive notifications in case of delays, weather disruptions, or mishandling.
6. Arrival, Customs Clearance, and Final Delivery
When the cargo reaches its destination airport, the process is reversed:
Customs inspection – Government authorities verify the cargo’s documentation, check for restricted items, and apply any necessary taxes or duties.
Unloading and sorting – Shipments are moved to sorting facilities for distribution.
Final delivery – Cargo is transported via trucks or local couriers to its final destination.
This last stage is time-sensitive, especially for e-commerce orders, medical supplies, and just-in-time manufacturing components.
Challenges in Airport Cargo Operations
While air cargo is fast and reliable, it faces several challenges:
Capacity limitations – High demand can lead to cargo space shortages, especially during peak seasons.
Regulatory compliance – Different countries have varying customs rules, which can cause delays.
Security risks – Smuggling attempts and cargo theft remain concerns.
Weather disruptions – Extreme weather events can delay shipments.
To overcome these challenges, airports are investing in automation, digital documentation, and AI-powered logistics to enhance efficiency.
Conclusion
Airport cargo operations are a complex but essential part of global trade. From warehouse storage and security screenings to loading planes and real-time tracking, each step is carefully managed to ensure goods reach their destinations quickly and safely.
As technology continues to evolve, automation, AI, and blockchain-based tracking systems will further improve cargo handling, making air freight even more efficient. Understanding how these behind-the-scenes operations work highlights the importance of air cargo in keeping the world connected and economies running smoothly.
