Irony Of Life. I've often listened intensely to the studio albums and a few live recordings Àyìnlá Ọmọwúrà the son of Yusuf Gbogbolòwò. On the road, very loud PA system, in transit, in the quiet of my room, even in my sleep. I got more curious when I was going to record Ọpẹ́ Olóore https://youtu.be/PPbW1dA0uWY for my birthday earlier in the year. I must say this here; the details of what happens under Àyìnlá's voice; Adéwọlé's drum and Tájù's ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀ never sounded this clear even as I walk on the very busy Oweh Street, Jíbówú/Fádèyí. The low ended support from Aliu (the man on the Àkúbá) and his interplay with Adéwọlé Onílù Ọlà is simply fascinating. Ẹja Ló N'ibú Ẹ Ò Fura. Volume 8 https://youtu.be/KXB4P3PEFU0 exposes the artistic expertise of those that were considered (Ẹ̀mí Anígilájé) by the man that sat on 200 needles and was hurt by none. Meet the Nigerian women spearheading solar projects
Tumblr media
32-year-old green energy entrepreneur Yetunde Fadeyi will never forget what inspired her to start a clean energy company in Nigeria.
As a six-year-old, Fadeyi’s best friend, Fatima, was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning in her Lagos home, along with her father and pregnant mother.
“She often came over for sleepovers. But that day she didn’t,” says Fadeyi. “It was the time that they were stealing people’s generators, so they kept [the generator] in an enclosed area and by the time it was morning they were dead.”
After a childhood in Lagos plagued by intermittent electricity, a degree in chemistry and training in solar panel installation, Fadeyi started Renewable Energy and Environmental Sustainability (REES). The non-profit is dedicated to climate advocacy and providing clean energy to poor communities in rural Nigeria.
Bringing solar energy to Nigeria’s poorest homes
Since its inception in 2017, REES Africa has provided solar energy to over 6,000 people in the poorest parts of Nigeria, funded by grants and philanthropic donations.
It supplies solar microgrids, which generate energy through solar panels and store them in battery banks for distribution. The small grids bring high quality, cheap and constant power to up to 100 homes each, powering light bulbs, radios, sockets and other low energy appliances.
Tumblr media
Fadeyi says that energy companies don’t see any potential for profit in poor and marginalised communities. With around 40 per cent of Nigerians living below the national poverty line, it’s up to companies like Fadeyi’s to fill the gap for now.
Professor Yinka Omoregbe is hoping to bridge this energy gap as CEO of Etin Power, providing energy to offgrid communities using mini solar grids. She brings a wealth of experience to the role as a former national advisor on the reform of Nigeria’s petroleum sector and a former state attorney general.
In its first year, Etin Power provided electricity to over 5,200 people in three neglected coastal communities in Edo State, southern Nigeria. While the results so far are small, Omoregbe’s ambitions are far bigger.
We will have proven that it is possible to profitably give green energy to vulnerable communities.”

By • Olalekan Fagbade Lawmakers summon Miyetti Allah leaders over attack, killings by suspected Fulani Herdsmen The leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association have been summoned by Oyo State House of Assembly The lawmakers asked the leaders of the association to appear before it and explain roles played during the recent attack that took place in Iwajowa Local Government Area. They gave the order on Wednesday during a plenary presided over by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Fadeyi. It was earlier reported that no fewer than four (4) people died as a result of a clash that occurred in Iwajowa Local Government Area. The lawmakers, while condemning the attack, called on the State Police command to beef up security in the area. The House also called for the arrest of the Fulani herdsmen who allegedly perpetrated the killings. These resolutions followed a matter of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Iwajowa State Constituency, Anthony Ogunsola. Ogunsola claimed that no fewer than seven (7) people have died as a result of the incident, while several people were wounded. He said, “Mr. Kege Mayowa, an Ohori farmer was murdered on his farmland at Apakolo village by yet-to-be-arrested Fulani herdsmen, after the late farmer challenged his killer when the herders were feeding cows on the farm. “After the killing, a team of joint security agents comprising Operation Burst, Police, Amotekun LG Vigilante, and members of Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, were alerted and immediately mobilized to the scene. “But on sighting the team of security operatives, the herdsmen opened fire and this resulted in the death of Mr Ojo Yakubu (Amotekun operative), Mr Wasiu Salau a.k.a Federal, and Mr. Akeem Iroko. “The herdsmen also wounded another Amotekun officer, Mr Kazeem Hammed, Mr Muraina Jamie, a resident at Apakolo, while leaving many others receiving treatment at different undisclosed hospitals. The crisis escalated on Monday 16th and claimed three more lives in the Fulani community”. He noted that security agencies must put measures in place to forestall future attacks. He said, “Our people are mainly farmers and the Fulanis depend on their cattle for survival. It is completely unacceptable for the herders to be destroying our people’s farmlands. “We will not take this, hence we are appealing to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to ensure the fleeing herdsmen who perpetrated the killings are not only arrested but also prosecuted.” #LawmakerssummonMiyettiAllahleadershipoverattackskillingsbysuspectedFulaniHerdsmen

Community leaders accuse Ondo governor’s wife of imposing leader on local council
Tumblr media
The wife of the Ondo State Governor, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has been accused of imposition of a caretaker chairperson on the newly created Odigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The state House of Assembly recently passed a bill creating 33 LCDAs from the existing 18 local government areas in the state. Caretaker committees will be appointed to run the LCDAs pending council elections. However, community leaders in Odigbo LCDA have said Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu has handpicked one Eucharia Nwamara as the caretaker chairperson of the new council. Ms Nwamara is the current councillor representing Ore Ward, the largest and most cosmopolitan town in the old Odigbo LGA. Ms Nwamara is an Igbo like the governor’s wife. A former lawmaker who represented the area at the House of Representatives said the plan is an affront on the indigenes of the area. “We are saying no to anything that will tamper with the peace of this locality,” said the former federal lawmaker who does not want his name mentioned for fear of victimisation. The organising secretary of the ruling APC in the state, Tunji Moyero, is also unhappy about the development. He recalled that Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu cried against injustice when she lost the APC senatorial primary in Imo State last year. Mr Moyero, who is from Odigbo LCDA, said it is improper to appoint a non-indigene as the first chairperson of the council. “Our king cannot go to council to take orders from someone who is not from here. If we refuse to fight, our children will fight,” he said. “Everybody must rise up to this. We are begging the wife of the governor that if there is any pronouncement to that regard, we have no other way. Our youths are prepared. We are fighting for what is legitimate.” A community leader, Femi Olafumiloye, said the alleged action of Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu would disturb the peace of the community. “How can we start an LCDA with a total stranger as the first caretaker chairman? It is a passionate plea. She can rescind this decision. We cannot take it. Let our people be the chairman. How can an Ibo woman communicate to us?” Mr Olafumiloye said. When contacted, Mrs Nwamara said she has lived in Odigbo for over 35 years and has been contributing to the development of the community. “I am a politician. Everything in life is opportunity. I did not know about any protest,” she said. “I have lived in Odigbo for over 35 years. I have helped in community development. I am also hearing rumour.” ⓘ However, the spokesperson of the governor’s wife, Tobiloba Fadeyi, said the allegations against Mrs Akeredolu were unfounded. Read the full article
