She was falling.

Slowly.

She didn’t know how long she fell. Didn’t realize she had stopped. Everything was black—unmixed, unyielding, absolute black—and here she lay, curled up on a marble floor, a slab of rock? Solid, yet somehow not there.

She spread her palms on the cold surface. Unfriendly shrouds of blackness wrapped around her, squeezing her head, pressing into her eye sockets. She couldn’t see her hands, her legs, her feet.

Was her body really here? Or was this all taking place inside her mind?
