Fandom Problem #4845:
i love finding an amazing artist who creates fantastic fan art and their own things only to see them post drama. Untagged and not even under the cut. Can we just start making SEPARATE blogs for your personal vendettas? Time for some brutal honesty here but methinks the lack of engagement many artists experience partly stems from them clogging their blogs with politics, drama, discourse and more.

Aside from the normal - and at times abnormal - crimes in Gotham, families started disappearing with only so little trace.
This case was already straining the developing relationship of the Batfamily, little did they know that's not where their problems end.

Junior Deputy Eilish Cooper has never seen fireflies before (nor snow, but that's a problem for another season). John Seed has never been more alarmingly enamored with a woman who sees through all his secrets, and loves him anyway.
Or: how the Deputy spends a dreamy summer's evening with the youngest Seed brother, with sexy results.

It's amazing how the point of 4845 flew over so many heads and will continue to fly over many more. This really is the piss on the poor website. A lot of people want escapism and to enjoy something without discourse flying all over the place. Especially when it's all untagged and forced on them. The lack organization is not something to praise. And no. No one is saying you're not allowed to be apart of these kinds of things. They never consented to being apart of this discourse to begin with and many fanartists love to act like they did from the start. This gets worse when some (fan)artists act like their fans have to engage with their politics and drama, with the engagement they have for any art they post. And agree with their politics and views. Lest they face being accused of coincidentally being against the artist's own politics, when all they did was like and follow art they see online. Gets worse when it's all the fanartist posts from now on (or just a wave of it over their usual content) and they act like it's not their own fault for alienating their followers. People come to fandom for fandom related things. Keeping it separate from unrelated things is NEVER going to be some kind of slight or attack on you. (Askbox Submission)

Responding to this comment on 749421246336385024:
"this response is kinda nuts to me.,,,,, like just because someone has a DNI it doesn’t mean they don’t know how to block,, most people who use DNIs just block people they don’t like. it’s like a little warning i guess. also the comparison to being a proshipper and fighting for lgbt rights?? 😭"
Is it really a stretch to assume someone who has a DNI doesn't know how to block? Having a DNI inherently means "do not interact with me", which puts the onus on other people not to interact with them - good luck, when this website is full of post-sharing shortcuts like liking and following posts directly from the dash, without even needing to open someone's blog which has their DNI at the top. I have a bunch of popular posts, and so, so, SO many people have me in their DNI but just interact with my stuff anyways and end up in my notes. In that sense, a DNI is also indicative of how naive someone is about their online activities, and how other people function online. If they can't even tell someone is on their DNI and keep interacting with them anyways, how are other people supposed to even adhere to the DNI?
As for the "comparing being a proshipper to fighting for LGBT+ rights", I'm going to assume you're either a minor or highly uneducated about basic history. It takes two seconds to google and learn how much book burning and censorship of "gross content", which are ideologies espoused by antis, is related to people in power trying to censor gay media, trans media, and other LGBT+ content in general. Here in Canada, we have anti-trans people screaming "protect the children" and trying, I shit you not, to ban trans- and LGBT+-related books in schools. Anti rhetoric is rightist conservative puritanism rhetoric and if not, it's a direct pipeline to that, or a direct offshoot. The venn diagram is almost a circle. That is why people compare being a proshipper to "fighting for LGBT+ rights". Those "dirty nasty proshippers" are fighting for the rights of LGBT+ media, which groups are saying are degenerate, nasty, and grooming, to exist.
This is the post they're referring to.

4845:
Oh no, people use their own blogs to talk about the things they care about or about things from their private lives. Whatever will we do?
Seriously, grow up. Artists are still real people and not just machines who throw out art for others to consume. So of course they will occasionally want to talk about other things than just their art all the time and actually reach people about their thoughts and have some human interaction. Or maybe they want to inform people about an important cause, for which they would of course use the platform with the most followers on to reach as many as possible. And some people just don't have the energy nor interest in making a separate blog for every damn thing, because some people are unable to scroll past things or politely ask if certain things could be tagged.

I want to piggyback onto the explanation at 749427218923634688, and invite anyone who doubts the claim of "anti culture is like anti-LGBT+ rhetoric" to read the following essay.
Behind the Curtain: Anti-Shipping is a Bad Faith Position – Elliott Dunstan
Anti culture, whether it's convergent to or divergent from bigoted movements as an ideology, has many of the same characteristics, and many bigoted groups even use anti-dom as a gateway to their movements. If you're susceptible to one movement, you're more susceptible to the others.
This is the post they're referring to.

Same anon who sent a response regarding 4845: I said nothing about LGBT rights, that response was mainly about censorship, but while we’re at it…
There are countries in the world that censor LGBT content or ban it. My argument here is that the antis that have those DNIs in their bio are ironically pushing away people that are anti-censorship while they also live in a country where being LGBT is illegal.
Google is free. Use it and look up what certain terms mean. And that word twisting is exactly why I find certain labels stupid in the first place and further proves my point as to why I don’t use it. That and people literally getting threats over fiction is the reason why we have these dumb labels now.
I have also witnessed LGBT people cheer on a fan artist and even supporting the Chinese government being arrested over Genshin Impact artwork in China, and China is one of those countries that is anti-LGBT.

(Not a submission, a response regarding 4845): Similarly to 4845, literally, when I follow a writer or artist, I came for their content. Then I see their updated bios which has “proshippers DNI” or any DNI regarding specific tropes in fiction. Like “okay, good to know that they don’t use a block button at all and it gave me huge red flags, so now I’m unfollowing.”
Bonus: two of the artists I unfollowed are from a country where being anything but straight is a crime or taboo and they were the ones that had “proship DNI” on their updated bios. They are unironically pushing away people who fight against censorship and they live in a country where any LGBT content or even any content that defies gender norms is censored or banned. I can get that they don’t want to come across content they don’t like, but as much as we love making fun of Tumblr for being broken and buggy, at least the filtering tags system and block feature work. It’s made my experiences in fandoms where incest ships are the most popular ships much easier because I don’t have to see it after I blocked certain tags.

Did you even read the problem?? Your sarcasm and overexaggerating in an effort to minimize and discredit statements OP didn't even make isn't a good look.

Ah yes, failed reading comprehension strikes again, and it looks like a lot of other people fell for it too. The submission never said anything about it being bad for artists to boost causes, or that they shouldn't post anything at all because they're not people. "Making a separate blog for every damn thing" is also seriously hyperbolic and nobody was asking that, so just stop. The submission clearly talks about drama that isn't tagged or under cuts. Who the hell would want to follow an artist who posts untagged drama? That stuff is stressful to most. Maybe if someone lacks excitement in their life, they'll find it stimulating, but otherwise, no thanks. Most people have enough problems to deal with off the internet, without following blogs only to be jumpscared by angry politics and drama the artist didn't even have the courtesy and consideration to tag, like it's some unspoken "everyone needs to see this even though I know you only followed me for art, and regardless of your own ability to cope with shitty news or drama right now". No.
This is a response to this ask.
