Ash Meets Comet | Part 2 | In the time it took waiting for the rain to stop, night had fallen. The clouds finally began to dissipate revealing the starry sky, and Ash left the pine that had sheltered him. The first thing he planned to do was wait to come across a herd or another lone stallion to partner up with for a short time. He knew being alone was dangerous for a horse, and being a male would make it difficult to join a herd. In a stroke of luck Ash noticed a lone mare stargazing on a ledge not 200 feet away. He let out a whinny, hoping to get her attention. Indeed the mare turned towards the sudden outburst and saw a strange stallion she'd never seen before. To be continued! Ash finally see's Comet for the first time! What do you think Comet's reaction will be? Stay tuned!

I'm a firm believer that there's a perfect book for every occasion. And I have to say, while there are lots of books about toilet training, Janee Trasler's "Pottytime for Chickies" (2014) may well be my favourite. This little board book is less a primer on using the potty (though that does get covered) than a gleefully silly "what not to do" romp about chicks who just want to have a good time, but are eventually persuaded to "do their business". We can all name an endless number of bedtime stories--I just shared one yesterday!--but how many great books are there about waking up? It can be just as difficult to get kids enthused about morning routines as bedtime. I'm a big fan of Sandra Boynton's classic "Hey, Wake Up" (2000), for example. But more recently I discovered the fabulous new "Welcome to Morningtown" (2019) by Blake Liliane Hellman. Accompanied by colour-washed illustrations by Steven Henry, it gently and cheerfully takes kids through the joys of early morning sunrises, stretches, and yummy breakfasts, among other things.
