Did something new for the traditional media challenge! I’m a little late, but I’m satisfied with the final results despite running into a bunch of issues with the mediums I used.
i’ve wanted to experiment with faux taxidermy for a while now, so i decided to kick things off with some bugs. i learned a lot, and now that this set is finished & in the gallery i’m already planning more. they’re so much fun to make!
also! i want to mention that these are inspired by one of my favorite artists, beastieandbone (on instagram) who does incredible paper taxidermy art.
(the last 3 pics are by @iridescentjaq thank u honey 💚)
A type of stickmen called faux-hollowhead, or double ringed, which are characterized by their similarity in appearance to a hollowhead but filled in with another, usually darker, colour. Their arms also tend to be a slightly different shade than the rest of their body
They're typically taller and/or heftier than most other stickfigures, and possess magic. Some will use accessories, like cuffs, to help regulate and focus it. Many also have a 'disguise form' to help blend in with the general populous
So this is the centerpiece for a mixed media project (the other two parts aren’t finished). It’s about treatment of autistics with low support needs as basically neurotypical and how that negatively impacts when I actually do have needs. There’s also the element of being deemed “one of the good ones” however it’d the side pieces that would made that theme clear.
I actually really like how this ends up reflecting how it feels when I’m overstimulated
I was inspired to practice expressions after seeing Instagram posts of OC sketches and tutorials, so I had fun with the faces. Buuuut I also realized Marcos' hair was inconsistent in different angles so I erased like 27 times on some faces trying to make the fauxhawk work without it looking off. I do like how I draw it from the side though :D . I simplified the shape from the previous concept art.
Here's the older version with the crescent moon on his chest - oh right I forgot to include this trivia; his name was Marcus until I changed it to a Spanish name. Now I wonder how he'd look with red armor...
as a slight aside that’s only tangentially related to the last post i reblogged, sometimes i wonder how many people who rp like. ask for the original artist’s permission before cropping any particular fanart for reaction images
