Birthday (Larissa Weems x Reader)
Notes: This is a random piece about Larissa and reader both being students at nevermore. Reader is popular, Larissa not so. (I know I’m so sorry it’s a bit sad.) I saw a prompt ages ago that inspired this so creds to them idk who.
Let me know if you want a part two! And pls don’t let this flop haha :0
****
To say I was popular.. well yes, you'd be right. I'd worked hard for it, looking perfect, getting high grades. Of course my natural personality was a winner amongst my peers at Nevermore academy. It made me feel good, more than just for my ego. I liked to know that people liked me for me. I wasn't fake, I said things as they were, and luckily it wasn't rejected.
"Hello, earth to (Y/N)!" I jolted out of my personal monologue by my best friend, Cleo. When we'd met for the first time, we clicked instantly. She knew me better than anyone else, and I loved it. And I knew her the same way.
"Sorry, just daydreaming." I chuckled quietly and glanced around at the surroundings. We were sat on the freshly cut green grass in the courtyard. It was a warm day with a refreshing breeze. Perfect for lounging around. Just beyond me and Cleo were the rest of my friend group, who were all talking, laughing. I enjoyed the company.
Then something caught my eye, actually someone.
She had silvery blonde hair, and was much taller than any girl in the school, and not just because we were the oldest in the school (we were all in our last year). The school uniform brought out her deep crystal eyes, in a way that made me smile automatically. Larissa Weems was the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. Cleo nudged me, a grin on her face.
"I don't know why you don't just ask her out. What's the worst that can happen?"
I rolled my eyes, a sigh escaping my lips. My eyes were still on Larissa, watching as she walked along the open corridor on the side of the grass. Her eyes were on the ground, probably watching where she was going because due to her height, she often bumped into the shorter students, forgetting her stride was bigger than others.
"She most likely will be straight. Then turn me down, laugh in my face, and leave me all alone forever." Groaning, I leaned back, laying down properly on the grass.
"You should invite her to your birthday party." Cleo suggested, taking a sip of her water bottle, which she'd slid in a few ice cubes to keep her cool in the summer heat.
"She doesn't go to parties." Well, that's just what I'd gathered from all the parties I'd been to, she'd never been there, much to my disappointment. Having drinks in our systems may have given me more courage to talk to her.
Before Cleo could reply, one of my friends approached us, causing my eyes to leave Larissa just as she disappeared through a door.
"Hi, Mary." A welcoming smile on my face, as usual. She smiled back, sitting closer, in front of Cleo.
"I was wondering if you could help me with the Math homework? It's totally okay if not." People often asked me for such favours, as it was no secret that I got top grades, and I was always happy to help.
"Yes, of course!"
**
"Alright everyone, today we're moving to the greenhouse for the lesson." Mrs Faye called out to everyone before they could sit down. A faint groan was heard, because we all knew how hot it would be in there. But we didn't protest, mainly because we all loved Mrs Faye, and she always made our lessons fun.
There were desks already set up in front of tables with a plant pot on all of them. All of the students grouped together in twos, though I hung back, deciding which table I would go to with Cleo. But she nudged me, secretly gesturing to Larissa who hadn't partnered up yet. My eyes widened, knowing what she was suggesting.
"No!" I whispered, but Cleo had walked off with someone else, sending a wink my way. Internally I groaned, knowing I'd have to woman-up. So I approached Larissa, a faint smile on my lips, almost grinning as her eyes met with mine. I was lost for a moment, looking up at the girl I had the biggest crush on. And she had no idea, because I was secretly an awkward lesbian.
"Hey, wanna partner up?" I asked, cursing to myself because my tone didn't sound confident enough. She nodded, her expression softening. I felt a pang of sadness for her, because she was always the last one to be picked. It shouldn't be that way.
We walked to the last available bench and sat down, facing the front.
Mrs Faye talked us through the project, and soon we were left to our own devices, having to dissect a flower to see the roots and whatnot.  At the same time, we grabbed the scalpel to start. A blush appeared on my cheeks, whereas Larissa just smiled that beautiful smile.
"Sorry." Mumbling, letting her take it and begin the work. My eyes watched her movements, wondering what her larger hands would feel like linked with mine. I was short, well not short in the grand scheme of things, but just smaller than the average nineteen year old. Did that make me and Larissa Weems less compatible? I hoped not.
The lesson went by in a blur, mostly me letting Larissa do all the work, something that was unlike me, but I was just very busy. By busy, I meant building up the courage to ask Larissa to my birthday party. It couldn't be that hard, just a few simple words. But the feeling of rejection was something I never wanted to feel. I'd always had an easy time when it came to dating. All boys though, much to my distaste, but that was the consequence of not coming out.
"Larissa?" My tone was even, not holding confidence or nervousness. She tilted her head to the side, making eye contact with me. I nearly ran out of oxygen, looking into those deep ocean blue eyes.
"Yes?" Her voice was smooth, velvety even.
"Would you.. would you like to come to my birthday party tomorrow?" Urgh, I hated the way my pathetic voice sounded so hopeful. I hoped she didn't detect it.
She didn't say anything for a full minute, seemingly lost in thought. Eventually she shook her head slowly. "Sorry, I'm busy tomorrow."
My heart sunk, hanging my head in despair. So this is what rejection felt like, a crushing feeling in my gut.
"Oh, that's totally okay." I forced a smile, staring at the now dissected plant as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. Damn this. Of course the prettiest girl in school wouldn't want to come to my party. Literally almost everyone in my year would be there, except for her.
Mrs Faye then called out to the class, dismissing us all as the hour was up. Time flew fast, it seemed.
Larissa left the class before me, grabbing her bag and exiting quickly. I tried not to stare, but I didn't really relax until she'd gone completely. Not in a negative way, but because I was so awkward and down.
"So how did it go?" Cleo grinned, her arm slung around my shoulders as we left the greenhouse. I didn't reply, just groaning in a way that I hoped verbalised the rejected feeling.
"Ah. Playing hard to get. Well, there are plenty more fish in the sea." She slapped my back in what seemed to be a comforting way, but it just added to the pain. Yes, I know I was just a nineteen year old student with a silly little crush, but Larissa seemed like so much more.
As we walked along the corridor, I spotted the very girl I was mooning over, talking to a small group of people. They all seemed to shake their head in response to something she said. Larissa seemed to smile, though it looked superficial, like something had upset her but she was trying to cover it up. They all dispersed, leaving me in a state of curiousness. I was tempted to go over to the people who were naturally my friends, to ask what that was all about, but we needed to get to our lesson.
And by the end of the day, it had slipped my mind.
**
The next day rolled around, and I was walking out of the changing rooms, having just had track. I was alone, which was unusual, because I had decided to do a couple more laps, insisting my friends should go. They all wanted to get ready for my party anyway.
I slipped on my uniform, not bothering to tuck my shirt into my skirt. Bag on my shoulder, I moved towards the door, but I stopped in my tracks when I heard a muffled sound coming from the toilets. Frowning, I inspected further, walking into joining restroom. The sound happened again, and this time I figured out it was stifled crying. The sound tugged on my heartstrings, because the pain was clear in the tone.
"Hello?" I knocked on the cubicle door softly, and the crying abruptly stopped. The was a long silence before the door opened slowly. It revealed none other than Larissa Weems. My heart sunk further, who hurt my precious girl?
"Oh.. it's you." She mumbled, walking to the tissue dispenser, grabbing a few sheets to dab at her smudged mascara. "I'm fine."
"You don't sound fine." I followed her, about to place a hand on her arm, but stopped myself, in case she didn't like physical contact. She stared into the mirror, at herself, until her gaze shifted to my reflection.
"Don't you have friends to run off with?" She muttered, eyes now lowering to look at her hands.
"They're not important right now. Can you tell me what's wrong?" I tried my best to make my words as gentle as possible, and it seemed to work because fresh tears filled her eyes as she turned around to face me.
"We have the same birthday but everyone goes to your party, not mine." Her voice cracked, looking away in some type of shame.
It all clicked, the reason why she was 'busy', the reason those people were shaking their heads, as they weren't going to her celebration, they were going to mine. I didn't even know her birthday was on the same day as mine.
"Oh, Larissa.." I whispered, my arms opening to embrace her. She didn't move away, instead stiffening up. "I'm sorry." Though those two words didn't do much comfort.
"It's fine." She sounded cold, and suddenly pushed me away gently. Tears were in my eyes now, just like hers, except she had fiercely wiped them away.
"Have fun." She then left, her footsteps quick against the lino flooring, leaving me speechless. I wiped away one tear. I had caused her pain, and that I would never forgive myself for.
I had to make this right, I had to make her feel better, in whatever way possible.
So I furrowed my eyebrows to come up with some sort of plan.

one GOW soundtrack thing that drives me batshit insane:
KRATOS' MAIN MOTIF PLAYED UP A KEY, MORE GENTLY, IN SOMBER MOMENTS.
Compared to how in the main theme, the melody sounds mighty and imposing with the trombone... when it's played with just the strings or the flute when Kratos tells Atreus the bedtime story and his monologue at the end of Valhalla, it sounds SO GENTLE I CANTTTT
LITERALLYYYYYYYYY OH MY GGEGRGRGRGRGRGRGRGRTGRRGRGRRRRGRGR KRATOS. KRATOS IS SUCH A CHARACTER. RAAAAAAAAAA I LOVE HIS MOTIF SO MUCH. I LOVE THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF IT.
Also when it’s coupled with other characters motifs too???? Specifically FAYES UGH SHOT TO THE HEART

fanfic friday
thanks for the tag @14carrotghoul!
the rules: share a fic you wrote that your proud of (art/mood boards optional)
Tumblr media
(Note that while the fake newspaper headline features Nick and Taylor, this fic is based on book canon)
SNL | Season 45 Episode 2 | HRH Prince Henry & FSOTUS Alex Claremont-Diaz
"Why do I have to go over there? He's a one who pushed me into the stupid cake—shouldn't he have to come here and go on SNL with me or something?" Or, the fic in which I said bet and sent firstprince onto Saturday Night Live instead of having Alex go to London for a weekend.
This was a tough choice but out of the fics I've published, this is my current favorite! I loved the challenge both of tackling a new format and reimagining some iconic scenes in the book (and now movie) into comedy sketches. I'm also quite proud of the research that went into bringing a firstprince SNL episode to life.
Since I feel like I've talked about this story a lot, here's some additional content: a list of the sketches that inspired the ones in the fic!
Cold Open: Obama White House Crashers
Punk Band Reunion At The Wedding
Christmas Mash Up Monolog
Tina Faye Audience Questions Monologue
Mr. Belvedere Fan Club
Bond Casino Showdown
The Stand Off
Tagging @celaestis1 @heartitinthesilence @historicallysam @indomitable-love @inexplicablymine @largepeachicedtea but also open tag to anyone who wants to self-promote!

Olden Times. Modern Thinking.
A playlist
All the songs here are meant to be an inner monologue of the reader and how she thinks or feels about certain characters. Or just songs that the reader believes fit the people that they have met.
And other songs are from the perspective of that character and how they think or feel about the reader. Which ones are which? You’ll have to figure that out. 🫠 Lol.
(Mind you, some of these characters she hasn’t met yet in the story but this is my playlist that I’m working off of for the story. So you can deduce what you want with some of these songs and what they might mean for the story further down the road!)
Ain’t Nobody Takin My Baby by Russ (Heimdall)
Novocaine by The Unlikely Candidates (Heimdall)
Boys Will Be Bugs by Cavetown (Atreus)
Oh Ana by Mother Mother (Heimdall)
It’s Alright by Mother Mother (Kratos)
in your arms by saib (Heimdall)
Mr. Watson by Cruel Youth (Freyr & Heimdall) 👀💀
Wait a Minute! by Willow Smith (Heimdall)
Lowlife by That Poppy (Angrboda & Atreus) Reader saved this song because Angrboda said it reminded her of Atreus~. Aaahh, young love.
Rain by Grandson and Jessie Reyez (Freya)
Overwhelmed by Royal and the Serpent (Sindri)
Ain’t it Fun by Paramore (Atreus)
Out Of Sight by Chelou (Thor)
Put It All On Me by Phil Good (Kratos)
We Are Giants by Lindsey Stirling feat. Dia Frampton (Faye)
Body by Mother Mother (Skjoldr) This won’t make sense till we get to that part of the story. Sorry.
Lemon Boy by Cavetown (Heimdall)
Blow My Brains Out by Tikkle Me (Thrud) She’s a tough and smart girl that one.
Youth by Glass Animals (Freya)
Dancing on Glass by St. Lucia (Freyr)
No Words by Erik Hassle (Freyr)
It’s Time by Imagine Dragons (Sindri & Brok)
Electric Feel by MGMT (Heimdall)
Earfquake by Tyler the Creator (Heimdall)
Fxxk Boyz Get Money by FEMM (Reader) Because she (and y’all) are bad bitches that don’t need no man especially prick ass hoes that think they all that just cause their gods. As if.
Are most of these for Heimdall??? Yes. Do I care??? No. Lol. Anyways I don’t know if y’all will even care about this or even see it but it’s out there now soooo…. It is what it is.
Let me know if I should actually make it a playlist on YouTube or something for you guys.

Halloween 2023 marathon: 9-11
The Slumber Party Massacre (dir. Amy Holden Jones, 1982)
Tumblr media
A serial killer breaks free from jail, but the local high school population could not care less. There's sex to be had and joints to be smoked at the latest slumber party. Anyone not invited to the party either aims to crash it (the horny high school boys) or stay at home trying not to think about how uncool they are (the new girl who's better at basketball than her catty peers). All will be drawn together once the killer makes his way into town with a handy power drill that totally won't be used inappropriately.
I saw this movie for the first time earlier this year and immediately fell in love with its goofy charm. Apparently, it was written to be a parody of slasher tropes. The movie isn't played for broad comedy, but the humor is ever present in both overt and subtle ways. There's also a blend of cattiness and affection between the female characters that reminds me of the sorority house dynamics of Black Christmas, and the dialogue is often hilarious.
However, for all the humor, there are some creepy moments. The Driller Killer's "love" monologue is skin-crawling-- even if it is followed by a glorious parody of "the killer should be dead but isn't" trope.
This is one I love showing to other people. Everyone usually falls over laughing by the end, so it's a great group movie, but even alone, it's a fabulous time. You can currently catch it on Tubi for free.
Eyes of Laura Mars (dir. Irvin Kershner, 1978)
Tumblr media
Controversial fashion photographer Laura Mars starts having psychic visions of the murders of her associates right as the crimes are being committed. She and everyone she knows become suspects of the slayings. The police find it particularly interesting that Laura's photos, which pair high fashion with images of murder and violence, resemble the subsequent crime scenes. Confused and feeling guilty, Laura teams up with cynical investigator John Neville, hoping to track down the killer before she or anyone else she loves becomes the next target.
This is a new-to-me horror film I caught on Tubi. All I knew about Eyes of Laura Mars is that it was directed by Irvin Kershner, a journeyman filmmaker best known for The Empire Strikes Back, and written by John Carpenter (though tampered with by many before shooting began). The movie is essentially an American spin on the Italian giallo genre. You have the familiar setting of the fashion world, sexy models who become murder victims, a hapless protagonist drawn into the mystery, and some very nasty kills.
Tumblr media
There's a lot I like about this film, but in the end it didn't completely work for me. Maybe it's because unlike the best giallo, the movie doesn't have that otherworldly, psychedelic vibe that makes an audience able to swallow the sillier parts of the story. This is a very grounded, gritty presentation of New York City, making the more outrageous things in the film (like the unexplained psychic powers) stand out and not in a good way. Faye Dunaway's performance also verges into unintentional camp, with her wailing like she's in a 1940s melodrama much of the time. And I love melodramatic 1940s movies with appropriately overheated performances, but when the rest of your story is trying to be more realistic, that approach just takes me out of it because it doesn't gel. (Don't even get me started on the final twist, which I can't decide if I find laughable or clever.)
And yet, this is hardly a bad film. What frustrates me so much about it is that there's a lot that's pretty great. The supporting characters aren't the deepest in the world, but they are likable, so when they got picked off, I actually felt something. The movie also has an appealing time capsule element in its presentation of NYC during the height of the disco era. The fashions and the music are dated in the best way.
Tumblr media
Despite my complaint about Dunaway's campy moments, Laura Mars is an interesting protagonist. She takes her art very seriously despite the derision she receives from her critics. She doesn't allow anyone to push her around, be it her boozy ex-husband, hostile reporters, or the police. She clearly loves the models, make-up artists, and other associates who work with her, and Dunaway does well lending a genuine sense of bereavement to the character as her social circle gets picked off one by one. However, I feel like the movie doesn't do much with her and she doesn't really have an arc.
I just really wish this film were a better version of itself. However, I can definitely see myself rewatching it someday, so maybe knowing the twists will make me better appreciate what is there. I don't know.
The Curse of Frankenstein (dir. Terence Fisher, 1957)
Tumblr media
From adolescence, Baron Victor Frankenstein has had one dream: to cheat death. He and his research partner Paul Krempe delve into the mysteries of life, managing to reanimate a dead dog. Paul is satisfied with this achievement, but like a Disney Princess, Victor wants more. Like, creating a superbeing from bits and pieces of corpses more. This does not end well. At all.
It isn't spooky season without some Hammer Horror. I really have a hard time picking a favorite Hammer film, but The Curse of Frankenstein is definitely up there. Peter Cushing is so perfectly amoral and charming as Victor Frankenstein. I love Colin Clive in the Universal movies, but Cushing is my favorite in the part.
I've always admired how this movie sets itself apart from the Universal series without overdoing the opposition. The Universal movies were influenced by 1920s German expressionism, whereas the Hammer films go for more of a Victorian gothic meets explicit (by 1950s standards) sex and gore vibe. The sets and costumes are always wonderful in these films. I really love Cushing's glorious jackets, particularly the emerald green one.
Tumblr media
<spoilers down below-- beware!>
Curse is also interesting for its frame narrative with Frankenstein telling the story from prison the hour before he is to be guillotined for his crimes. No one believes there was ever a creature and Victor wants everyone to know that, hey, he didn't commit ALL the murders. What's most fascinating about the frame story is the way it presents Paul, Victor's former tutor and research partner. Throughout the story, Paul is an unheeded voice of conscience tormented by the crimes Victor commits to achieve his goals. It's also implied Paul is in love with Victor's fiancee Elizabeth, and that this passion ignites further resentment against Victor on Paul's part because Victor clearly does not care about Elizabeth at all but is going to marry her anyway.
Tumblr media
The film ends with Victor begging Paul to tell the authorities about the Creature, but Paul acts as though Victor is insane or just making it all up. He doesn't want to save Victor-- but is that because he wants to see justice done? Or is he also tight-lipped because he wants to secure Elizabeth for himself and knows she'll feel too duty-bound toward Victor (who supported her and her destitute aunt during Elizabeth's childhood) to break off the engagement unless the groom-to-be is, well, headless? It's a wonderfully ambiguous touch and it makes Paul more than just a nagging moral center.
<spoilers over>
Anyways, this is a perfect Halloween movie. Don't miss it if you've never seen it!

What do you think ashtray’s reaction was seeing his brother try to flirt with Lexi from the cooler.
Inner monologue: "Why is he actin' so weird? Is something about to pop off? Oh, wait, he likes that girl." [Fezco stumbles over his words.] "Come on man, you got this." [Sees Lexi get shy and turn around after the Faye interaction.] "Damn, hate to admit it, but this is the cutest shit I've ever seen. Better than a Hallmark movie." [Cal enters.] "Oh, this motherfucker. Can't my bro have his romcom moment in peace?"

Comfort Movie Challange :Three Days of the Condor
@ariel-seagull-wings @the-blue-fairie @themousefromfantasyland @princesssarisa @amalthea9 @angelixgutz @filmcityworld1
Reccomended by @goodanswerfoxmonster ,and hot damn I enjoyed
Tumblr media
I went into this film only knowing it is a very famous spy thriller,it starred Robert Redford ,that it would be homaged in Captain America The Winter Soldier (Which not only has a lot of the style but got Redford to play the villain as an homage ) .....And my dumb ass got it confused with Day of the Jackal ,thinking this was about an assassin till I realized these were two seperate movie ,so I had no clue what the plot was
So the plot of this 1975 film is Joe Turner AKA Condor(Robert Redford ) is a CIA resercher, not an opporative, his job is just to read books ,he notices something strange about one of the books, reports it......And while he is out getting lunch all his colleagues are slaughtered by the asassin Joubert (Max Von Sydow) he tries to get help from people from the CIA .....But that leads to more people trying to kill him ,so Turner is trying to avoid getting killed and figuring out what the hell is going on
So ....I really dug this film ,I love a good thriller ,especially a thriller like this .I really dig movies where one person is in over their head and thats this film to a T .
I really liked Joe Turner as a protagonist in that he felt believable .Theres a nice balance with him in that he is a guy. Yes he works for the CIA ,but he isnt a field opparative he is a researcher ,hes a smart guy who reads a lot of books . I like that he is smart but not a genius ,I like that he can fight (Due to some mi8litary training) but he isnt an action man .Also his greatest strength and weakness is really that he ISNT a typical CIA guy.His weakness is that he doesnt know how to play the CIA game, but its also his strength ,because the assassins and CIA are so focused on the game,he is unpredictable cause he just isnt thinking the same way they are .
The other thing that makes this great is the cast .Robert Redford is one of those Movie Stars of that era who while charming and good looking who has abit of an everyman feel, like when he is confused or afraid you feel it ,so I feel he is perfectly cast for his role .I think Faye Dunaway does a great job as a woman who gets roped into this insanity . John Houseman doesnt have much to do but he has two great scenes as a CIA higher up and just exudes experience and authority . Cliff Robertson is an actor who I always associate with one role ,that of kindly Uncle Ben in Sam Raimis Spiderman ,but I forget is like a legit great actor and he plays the role of Higgins ,a character who till the end you arent reallly sure of his leanings ,very well. The best charact and performance though ,is the great Max Von Sydow as this assassin Joubert .On one hand he is menacing ,he is a terryifying killler.....But then you get to his speech near the end of the film and your entire perspective on him shifts .In fact my favorite part of the film is his conversation with Turner
I do have an issue, and that is the love story just doesnt work ,I think the fact kidnapping is involved doesnt help
OK so I get this being a comfort film ,if you love this 70 thriller vibe or just wanna hear Max Von Sydows monologue....Yeah this is a good time .I really think its a solid thriller ,and Kind of wanna revisit it sometime

I find the artifacts, cried over a hat Cursed the space that I needed I trace the evidence, make it make some sense Why the wound is still bleedin' You were the one that I loved Don't need another metaphor, it's simple enough A wrinkle in time like the crease by your eyes This is why they shouldn't kill off the main guy Dreams of your hair and your stare and sense of belief In the good in the world, you once believed in me And I felt you and I held you for a while Bet I could still melt your world Argumentative, antithetical dream girl

watched the movie in theaters last night!! It was really great ❤️ Some thoughts in no particular order:
I saw the dub with my sister and my bf, and then I went and saw the sub alone. The sub had deeper dialogue imo but it’s mostly the same, though every once in a while the voices dropped out? Like I think it was during the shogi scene, Jet’s voice was gone but the background audio was still there and the subtitles were still going, it was weird
when the opening theme played my sister turned to me and was like “wtf this isn’t tank?!?!” I was also surprised, but Ask DNA is a banger so I can forgive it
Faye chasing everyone around the room and jumping on Spike was cute. Luv these idiots
Bob and Jet’s little movie date was cute too. Also, they have 10000% kissed before on a particularly long, boring stakeout. They never speak of it tho, because they’re Men(TM)
The English voice actor for Samson did such a good job, tho I do wish they hadn’t changed his spiel in the car so much- in the Japanese version, he makes it clear he’s partnering up with Vincent and committing terrorism because it’s so much harder to become famous as a hacker than it used to be and he wants to be remembered, and in the English that isn’t as clear.
I also prefer Jet’s whole monologue to himself about the bebop crew’s relationship in Japanese, mostly because he says “it’s not like we’re a family” because it is like they’re a family, they’re just a very dysfunctional one
Vincent’s English VA reminded me of some of the VAs in Skyrim in a weird way that made it harder to take him seriously, but that’s not his fault
“I love a woman that can kick my ass” bitch me too, the fuck
“I don’t care about saving anyone, that’s not my job” press x to doubt
“We share the same soul. I have to see him again, one more time” Spike my love that is fuckin gay
Faye looks so much like a shrimp in that one scene where she’s tied up on the floor. Go look at it and tell me I’m wrong. Shrimp lookin ass
god I want that self-cooking ramen holy shit
okay so like. I thought that photo set I’ve seen on here before with a quote from True Detective on it was real and I was so confused when it wasn’t in the movie sdhdaghsgkl
wtf are Vincent’s hands made of that he can stab Spike with his goddamn fingers through his clothes??
I thought the guy pulling spike out of the water was Jesus for a fucking second 💀
Also, I thought laughing bull lived on TJ or Titan, what is he doing on mars? I suppose he might move around, tho
“I’m not waiting for a call from Spike or Faye, in fact I didn’t even notice they were gone bc I am a Man(TM) and I don’t care about them” *phone rings* “WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN I’VE BEEN WORRIED SICK >:(” Jet my absolute idiot angel, please learn how to talk about your feelings
Poor Jet being so stressed out in the scene with the planes. This man deserves a vacation and also probably some high blood pressure medication
the bebop looks very phallic in that one scene in the beginning, and the hammerhead always looks phallic. why does jet own two penis ships? is he compensating for something, or does he just really like dicks? the world may never know (it’s both)
I like how they leaned harder into multiculturalism in the movie, like including lines in Arabic
the music was awesome, as always. what planet is this fuckin slaps, as does knockin on heavens door
highkey want that final shot of spike reaching for the butterfly and “are you living in the real world?” as a tattoo
we pretend we do not see the terrible transphobic stereotype in that one scene 😑😑😑😑😑

(The dreamy Melvyn Douglas, top left, the goofy Red Skelton, top right, and the GOAT Tallulah Bankhead on the bottom in the glasses!)
Day 13- TV and Radio:
TV:
Westinghouse Studio One, season 4, episode 24, “Letter from an Unknown Woman,” February 24th, 1952.
The Red Skelton Show, season 1, episode 18, “Make a Salad,” Feb 24th, 1952.
Radio:
The Big Show, episode 49, February 25th, 1952.
My Friend Irma, “Lost Friendship Ring,” February 24th, 1952.
The Phil Harris and Alice Faye Show, “Seeing Phil’s New Movie,” February 17th, 1952.
I don’t always find Red Skelton funny, he can sometimes be a bit too buffoonish for me, but his opening monologue today genuinely had me laughing. He did pantomime impressions of all the different types of people in the crowds at boxing matches: the bored guy, the tough guy punching like he’s in the ring, the gangster trying to throw the fight, the sensitive guy afraid of seeing blood, and the guy with his wife who constantly distracts him by asking questions about what is going on.
The big treat of the day, though, was Westinghouse Studio One. This episode unexpectedly starred Melvyn Douglas, and he played his role extremely well. He’s a sort of a thinking girl’s dream guy, and I adore him. He’s a charming and refined intellectual type who still has lots of confident masculine energy. He’s one of my big crushes from Old Hollywood. His wife in real life kicks ass, too! She became a politician and was one of the first women elected to congress.
Tallulah’s corner: I have to shorten my list, as usual! At one point Tallulah did a skit where she was taking her driver’s test, and her instructor asked, “You do know what the red and green lights mean, don’t you?” “Yes!" she said, "Christmas!” One of guests later introduced her as “Tallulah Bankhead, who invented Bette Davis!”
...And now a word from today’s best sponsor: Anacin! Do you have headache, neuritis, or neuralgia? (Do you even know what those last two are?) Then you need Anacin! It’s just like a doctor’s prescription because it contains not one, but a combination of medically proven ingredients! Kiss neuritis and neuralgia goodbye- soon you’ll forget what they are! (Even if you didn’t actually know what they were in the first place!)

yo legit though theres a scene in Cowboy Bebop when Faye is watching her old videotape where she's staring at the screen and sort of having thoughts, and in the Japanese she's like "is that me?" in this one shot, but in the dub, the shot is totally silent. genuinely an objectively better choice imo
yeah
its usually the other way around with dubs
especially with kids shows you guys just cant have faith that kids will figure things out for themselves or will keep paying attention if someone isnt shouting every possible second
if theres one complaint id level at the adv99 dub its that there are a couple moments thatre better silent but the dub adds someone having an internal monologue or a narrator

I could hear his voice in the silent chamber. The internal struggle, facing years of exposure...I wasn’t going to let that thing take another soul...Not a single one. I lost my family to that madness, I won’t lose another.
