Only thing I will say about the "I don't like rap" nonsense is that if you, as a non-black person, say this to me, I categorize you as an unsafe person to be around.

I grew up in a white fundamentalist cult and, even as insulated as I was, if I heard this growing up, I would be on alert. Waiting for the other shoe to drop, from this "kind" and "polite" person who feels the need to separate themselves from me, my blackness.

Ask yourself why you feel the need to say this about an entire art form. Do you feel special? Do you feel more respectable? Do you feel better than us?
