How were you introduced to TOA? I played FE4 and the brainworms took over, so I started following the genealogy tag on tumblr. I kept seeing posts about X character being accepted to the officer's academy, so eventually I looked into what that was all about.

Do you have any pets? No.

What is your favourite time of year and why? (Season, holiday, general period) My wardrobe is minmaxed for warm weather, I hate layers and I like having my window open, and having hours and hours of daylight. So summer.

What is your IRL occupation? IT.

Some interests and things you like/enjoy? Pixel art and cross-stitch, card games, social deduction games, doctor who, long walks.

What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? Zero escape, Aitsf, puyo puyo tetris, balatro, slay the spire, ace attorney, umineko, other vns.

Favourite Pokemon type & Pokemon: Delphox. I like dragon, fire and dark types.

I like dressing fancy. I regularly go to hang out with my friends wearing floor-length gowns, my grandad's boat cloak, and heels. I have a drag queen friend who sometimes gives me clothes he doesn't want any more, and it's great.

(Apart from the wrinkle where RD is technically my brother's and not mine) I own every FE game that got an English release.

How did you get into Fire Emblem? At the time feh was released I was just playing every nintendo mobile game that came out. I thought the characters were cute and I found a second-hand copy of birthright sometime later. I then had to wait until Christmas to play it cause my brother's 3DS was broken.

Who was the first character ever to make you go “ooh I like this one in particular” and why? Can be any context and reason! I liked M!Robin's art in heroes and he was the first 5* I summoned. Also I fell in love with Kaden the instant I met him cause he's cute (unfortunately my Corrin was already married)

Any Fire Emblem crushes? Like so many. For brevity I'll give the biggest one from each game: Wolf, Sonya, Arvis, Karel (FE7), Joshua/Cormag, Nasir, Reina, Jeritza, Zelkov. Shout out to Arvis for being the reason I played FE4 to begin with, and Jeritza cause the morning he became playable and bisexual I went insane.

If you’ve played (or are familiar with) the following games, who was your first S support? Who would you S support nowadays? I prefer to S support a new character each run cause I like filling the support log. The only time I've S supported a character more than once is the bisexual ones in 3H. Who was your first TOA muse? If you no longer have them, can you see yourself picking them up again? I had Larcei for over a year and honestly I'm really happy with what I did with her (even if rereading her stuff makes me cringe). So as much as I love her I have no strong reason to pick her up... apart from that swordmaster drabble I never got around to.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) There's overlap between the 'old' and 'new' gens of my muses. There's a hotheaded sword girl, a mage with issues :tm: and a cute blond guy. I think I have an easier time writing characters that have a positive outlook, and say what they mean.

Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? Idk really. I don't think I'm that good at writing sad shit, so muses that have heavier stuff going on I'd struggle with.

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) I like being a little silly. Some of my favourite posts have been where I've just thought up some nonsense, and allowed myself to write it.

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? I want Forde to be obliterated emotionally. I do not care if these emotions are positive or negative.

Favourite TOA-related memories? SO many this group is awesome. I loved coming back after some time off and seeing what muses were still around. There's one in particular that Larcei and Forde are both close friends with and it cheeses me so much. Anyway happyland was my favourite event ever thank you mods.

For sure, I have females I like! They tend not to be my favorites in FE (or in a lot of media in general because females often don't get written with the same complexity as males not everything can be Talentless Nana), but I don't have an empty void where females in FE are concerned thankfully.

If I didn't list someone here it doesn't mean they're a terrible character or that I despise them or anything (they're not even necessarily bad imo), but a lot of them are pretty shallow or used like a plot gimmick. ALSO, I might like them but that doesn't mean that they were written particularly well or felt standout or anything (like, I like Cordelia but I didn't list her because it's not a very strong attachment and it's a very mild like).

In some cases for "good" that aren't in like, it's more because they're not a favorite female (like Timerra, who I like enough but I had other females I enjoyed more).

edit: if you're wondering why i didn't list sov it's bc i haven't played it and gaiden's version of the characters is about as nonexistent as fe5, hence the lack of fe2 and fe5 (who weren't present in fe4 as well) characters

Like you said, dancers in FE has almost always come with implied sexual undertones. Just listen to Lenes voicelines in Heroes for example; "I hate dancing for strange men!", "I really want to meet my mother one day. Thats why I dance... even if I dont always like it." It sure doesnt sound like its just about dancing. Poor girl.

Lene (or her substitute Laylea) is introduced in her own game being forced to entertain an ugly old palette swap man who later becomes one of that chapter's bosses; her situation is even more overt than her mother's who's at least introduced while out on a date with a more palatable man in Lewyn. In keeping with its notoriously dark tone, Jugdral is the setting that pulls the fewest punches with the kind of work that its dancers are actually wrapped up in.

Sounds like you want support conversations to be either abandoned like in FE11, or SEVERELY limited to the FE15 quantity, because the quantity of partners that FE13 provides leads to self-contradictory/incomprehensible characters that are either unusable or unfun to write in fic.

I think the GBA era did a pretty good job of parceling out the support conversations in terms of quantity and quality; the mechanics for building them in-game and the caps on what could be achieved per playthrough are shit. FE15 didn’t do quite enough with some characters-- I mention the Rise of the Deliverance DLC favorably because the extra coupla conversations did REMARKABLE things for the Deliverance as characters. But in between some manner of base convos (necessary at this point IMO), 4-7 support chains per character, boss battle dialogue, and the various forms of “reaction” chatter that have become standard since FE got voice acting, and cut scenes... that’s plenty.

Let’s look at Diarmuid for a potential FE4 reboot since he’s got so little to go on in FE4 itself.

Reboot!Diarmiud Support Chains in order of necessity:

#1: Nanna

#2: Oifey, as his mentor and using their original event conversation as a base

#3: Ares, since they’re cousins, liege-and-knight, and riding home together unless Diarmuid inherits some shit.

#4: Lester and/or Ulster, as his Tirnanog bros

#5: Seliph, as his present liege and his Tirnanog bro

#6: Leif, as his potential brother-in-law and as foreshadowing for a Thracia 776 remake.

#7: Finn or Lewyn in the event he’s the kid of either one of them

#8: Lachesis in the inevitable “a bunch of Gen 1 characters survived actually!!!” DLC

#9: Predestined love interests, which he didn’t actually have in FE4 so IDEK

You can stop at 4 core support chains, or five if Diarmuid is chatty with both Lester and Ulster, and round him out pretty nicely as a brother, a student, a future knight, and a friend. You can touch on his aspirations, his fears, the legacy he carries, and what makes him the “charming” prince as opposed to the not-very-charming Lester and Ulster. With the addition of all the other now-standard game chatter as described above, Diarmuid exists in multiple dimensions without needing a single forced heterosexual romantic support chain. And anything else is just gravy, including the option for finally hashing things out with a parental unit.

Then let’s take Hannibal, as the precise kind of character who tends to get shafted on supports because he comes in late and no1curr.

Reboot!Hannibal Support Chains in order of necessity:

#1: Coirpre/Charlot, no arguments

#2: Altena, no arguments

#3: Leif, as both Altena’s brother and Hannibal’s future king, not to mention the tie-in to a key scene in Thracia 776

#4: Wildcard. Could be Seliph, but he’s not really as key to Hannibal’s future as the Leonster kiddos. Could be Lene/Laylea. I’d frankly like him to confront Finn over the whole “Well, you finally invaded my country and deposed my lord, so are you satisfied now?” angle. He could also mentor one of the other kiddos in an unexpected way-- Febail, Patty, Tine, Ced? Someone with a Thracian-peninsula angle might work.

#5: ???

Again, four support chains would be GREAT. An FE15 model would likely get us ONE support chain, which would be a shame. FE16, though, was pretty generous in the platonic mentoring that older characters got to do with younger characters, to the point where you could imagine Hannibal getting several conversations that terminate at the B-level. FE16 did some things very right and the platonic support chains are one of them IMO.

1. leen / aless - quite possibly my OTP in all of fe or at the very least has second place, chapter seven’s dialogue will always hit me really hard. i love how the two openly talk with one another over things, and we truly get to see aless be more than just an edgy, brooding guy when he’s around leen. leen questions aless to avoid him losing himself to blind hatred, and aless helps protect leen in any way he can. they provide each other physical and emotional support both, and you can tell they both really really care about each other. aless is willing to temporarily put aside his near lifelong grudge when he hears leen is in danger, and leen actually loses her cool when it comes to wanting aless to not be manipulated. i also adore their situation of being more than friends but less than lovers as especially outlined by their love base, and i will always feel robbed remembering they don’t have an endgame lovers’ convo.

2. leen / dimna - i’ve discussed this with another leen rper once, and we both liked the melodrama associated with it! dimna puts up a wall between himself and those with holy blood, but when they first meet, neither of them are aware of leen’s lineage. this gives leen the opportunity to bond with him and get to know him and then when dimna distances himself from her due to being a descendant of braggi, she’d 100% be the type of person to confront him on it. canonically, dimna goes to the end of the game truly believing that he ought to never mingle with crusaders and that he was never good enough, but if anyone might be able to help him see past his limited perspective and self deprecation, i would absolutely bet it would be leen. i think the simple lifestyle dimna lives, the virtuous goal he holds of wanting to become stronger to make a difference in this world, and dimna being very level-headed himself would also put them on similar wavelengths.

3. leen / laylea - a lot of the times, i talk about what leen can do for other people in ships but i think laylea would be really great for her in the fact that laylea is the more mature one and would finally be a source that leen feels like she would be able to go to for advice or someone to rely on. additionally, they come from extremely similar backgrounds ( lmao no shit @ me ) and so there’s the sense of camaraderie and solidarity between them to make them really connect. dancer gfs? dancer gfs.

4. leen / patty - haha so i LITERALLY just thought about this one but i actually super like it! patty is commonly characterized as aiming for some noble or otherwise well-to-do husband, yearning for that stability, and while leen wouldn’t be able to provide that for her, i think leen could enjoy life with her and not look down upon her. i always found the idea of patty falling for someone with less to give her or someone she wouldn’t immediately go for as always a sweet ending ( though i do like her ships with some people that are noble and she’s attracted to from the start ) and i think leen would encourage patty to live every day to the fullest!

5. leen / faval - so i touched on this in my faval post and i’ll say from leen’s pov, i think why she’d fall for faval would be very similar reasons for why she’d fall for aless tbh. it’s just that faval has a bit more to work with to catch up considering their lack of history in comparison, but also faval has the benefit of leen not already being so comfortable and used to him that she doesn’t fall for him slowly unlike how her jealousy priority for aless is practically nonexistent LMAO

So my snooping through the JP fandom has resulted in me finding a database(?) of FE fan art. I don’t know if they’re all by the same person, since the images are fairly consistent in three different styles I’ve noticed. Since all of these art range from 2003 to 2007 archived, and in Japanese I can not guarantee these are from the original source.  That being said. Here’s the database (?). It has 253 images.
