can i just say that I'm haunted by the image of Ice wearing "one of Mavericks cheapest rolexes". One because of the mental immage of Maverick being the kind of men who not only owns multiple watches but also Rolex, which is absolutely delightful, because oh the quiet vanity of that. And two because of the implied and groundbreaking (to me) domesticity (and defiance of the not talking/acknowledging the thing between the 2 of them) of wearing another person watch. I'm screaming into the void about your brilliance. So I need to ask, do they do that on purpose (before the mission) in a sort if roundabout way of acknowledging each other presence in their life? What would Mav wear that belongs to Ice (apart from that USNA ring eheh)?

pilots/sailors/doctors etc who do high-level specialized work with their hands tend to really be Watch Guys. and “cheap” rolexes (sub $7k ish) are actually pretty affordable if you’re making >$150k a year and want to treat yourself every fifth christmas or something. source: know several sailors & doctors. ALSO the watch ice is wearing in his famous gay plane photoshoot is actually a rolex. So theres some evidence ice at least is (annoying, ostentatious, bad with money, and) a Watch Guy. Maverick’s also wearing a kickass chronograph in TGM so i think he’s also probably a Watch Guy. also… you know, status symbol, honor, et cetera et cetera…

they probably wear each other’s socks because in-regs socks all look the same and they’re both men so who cares. i also hc that they’ve always worn the same size in shirts so each other’s t-shirts are also free game. and was very confusing at the start of their relationship when trying to figure out whose shirt was whose after a midnight rendezvous. lots of accidental shirt mixups. and, yeah, each other’s watches, because most people only see the status and don’t see the detail, and most people aren’t around both ice and mav enough to recognize that “omg last month adm kazansky was wearing the same omega chronometer capt mitchell is wearing today!! theyre totally together!!!” so if ice buys a new watch and maverick salivates over it, sure he can borrow it, whatever. and i think there’s a scene in wwgattai when maverick wears ice’s pj pants hold up lemme find it

ice also wears mavericks leather jacket when they’re on their baseball date in debriefing. at some point when you live with someone long enough your stuff becomes their stuff which was the point of this graf

Not enough vermin in Star Trek btw. How are Tribbles the only example I can think of when it comes to the plot point of "space rats infest ship and/or station"?

Like a pest infestation on Voyager could have been devastating. A pest infestation on DS9 would have been down right realistic and caused problems for all the ships docked there.

You're really telling me Starfleet has pest control down to such a science that they never get vermin on their ships? Not even in a cool sci-fi way where space critters infest the Jefferies Tubes after an away mission to a new planet? Come on.

Imagine Egg A1 still has one life left, and it somehow manages to escape the facility... It is being followed by mobs, by Federation employees, being hurt by the poison ivy and other environmental threats, but it keeps running, because what other choice is there? That parkour course was a trick after all, the last block was a fake, it was never meant to pass that test in the first place.

So it keeps running, but the Federation workers are getting closer. It won't be able to avoid them forever...

But then it bursts through some bushes and comes face to face with someone new - and it's Bad, out building or exploring or just wandering alone. A1 is immediately afraid, of course. It is a stranger, a very visually striking stranger, the complete opposite of the pure white and featureless employees of the Federation. But there are people close behind, and it knows what will happen to it if it is caught, so... It has no choice but to try. It has no way to communicate, no signs or books, so it simply rushes to hide behind him and hopes he understands, and that he is willing to help...

And Bad, for his part, well.. he's an extremely cautious and paranoid person, and this is just an incredibly confusing and unexpected situation to be in. An unknown egg appeared out of nowhere and is hiding behind him, he can see Federation employees in the distance that are clearly looking for something... He knows that the code has been disguising itself as eggs, and that the strange egg in front of him with no marks, no distinguishing features, an egg that he has never seen before, could easily be the code monster preparing to attack at any moment...

But there is absolutely no way Bad could ever look at an egg in distress and not try to help it, even knowing it could be a trap.

So he quickly digs a shallow hole and pushes the mysterious egg into it, covering it up just in time, and when the employees throw him a book asking if he had seen anything, he lies effortlessly, he complains about nonsense, he asks them where the Ekea is and is as annoying as he can be, until they leave.

And now they're alone... just Bad an this mystery egg in the middle of the woods, A1 too afraid to leave the hole even when Bad tries to coax it out. He gives it food and tries his best to comfort it, to tell it everything is okay and that the pursuers are gone. He gives it some signs and a book, trying to see if it will write anything to him or answer any of his questions, but he gets no reply. A1 is just too afraid to even attempt to answer, and Bad doesn't even know if it understands him. He tries what few words he does know of the other languages, and still no response.

What should he do? As much as the image of a tiny, terrified egg makes him want to do all he can for it he also needs to be safe. He can't bring it home, because if it is a code there is no way he is bringing it anywhere near Dapper. Should he call someone else for help, or would that draw too much attention? Would it even be safe for him or the egg to let anyone know right now? And was this egg dangerous, or harmless and in need of protection? He wouldn't abandon it regardless but...

What now?

Some more late night after stream thoughts. I’m watching Tina now while getting ready to sleep and she was just talking about how Cucurucho was so nice and silly and idk if she’s being serious cuz I rarely watch her but it’s got me thinking about how so many people dismiss Cellbit’s experience with Cucurucho because their personal experience was either delightful or neutral/positive.

Tw discussions of abuse and manipulation

It reminds me of real life abusers and people who abuse systems of power. They get away with their abuse for so long because their external persona with everyone but their victims is pleasant and reasonable and often times kind and helpful. No one believes or takes their victims seriously because their stories don’t line up with their personal experiences with this person.

This happens so often in real life it’s kinda bizarre seeing it happen so openly on the qsmp with so many of the characters choosing to turn a blind eye, q!Jaiden being the most extreme example - but q!Jaiden is also a victim of the federation just in a vastly different way than the Brazilians.

Oh this terrible thing happened to this person? Well Cucurucho is so nice to me and always blows bubbles and gives me things and is just silly and whimsy so… either this person is exaggerating or they probably did something to deserve it.

Which leads to another thing many abusers do: turn their victims against each other. Q!Jaiden had been isolated by the cucuruchos and spent a month with only them in which it can be inferred they spent the entire time manipulating her into favoring them even more than she already did, to the point where she said she doesn’t care what they did to Cellbit. Turning victims against each other to keep the focus away from the fact that they are the ones causing everyone’s pain.

That is also exactly what the election was intended to accomplish and it did, as we are seeing with Forever and Bad. The rift between them is only going to grow and there is nothing either of them can do to stop it because their core ideologies are incompatible. Bad is doing his damndist to give forever the benefit of the doubt and try to help him but nothing Forever does will ever satisfy Bad’s hatred of systems of government so this rift between them will never be healed.

This is how governments and abusers both keep their power. Turning people against each other. Giving privileges to some as an example of how benign they are while actively hurting others behind closed doors. Isolating their victims from the outside world so the abuser is the only person they can turn to. It’s all text book and it’s working on many of the islanders. Hell, people go missing every other day and no one blinks an eye anymore. They’ve become so desensitized to the federation’s abusive tactics because they don’t know how to fight back, not really.

At this point, the main method of resistance they can show is true unity within their community. The islanders built a community without the federation - who initially tried to separate them via the wall - and that community is theirs. They need to unite against cucurucho and the federation or they’ve already lost. There is no working with the federation because compliance is taking part in your own oppression.

I don’t typically like when star trek characters reference legacy characters just to talk about how great and perfect they are but I do like this route where even though Tuvok calls him a great visionary in the end he brings Spock up to say he argued with him. I think this is the way of the future. Lean in. Star Trek characters should say things like ‘An old man cut me off in space traffic the other day. I think it was McCoy?’ and another should nod and shake their head like he’s always doing that shit
