The FR Double Fairlie? I have two OCs of this class (This is specifically Livingston Thompson, which I think is the best-looking IRL :))
So these are neat engines. I don't agree with each one being two locomotives in one. It's a single engine in terms of personality.
I personally love The Square and hope she returns.

ERS 51 - Now in Wales:
It took a little while, but ERS 51 - the Ffestiniog Engines - is now going up on Ao3 (it actually first went up last night, but then I fell asleep and forgot to mention it here...) Either way, you can now read it here on Ao3!
Who's ready to see what happened to Duke after Scott finally managed to convey Prince's message?

Mighty Mac headcanons?
I mean, is Mighty Mac one engine or two??? I have so many questions.
also this:
I might not be the right person to ask. Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought TVS's interpretation of double Fairlies was pretty reasonable and straightforward—they're just conjoined twins, yeah? It doesn't seem all that mysterious to me.
I admit it gets tough to apply that to the Ffestiniog since most of their double Fairlies have a single, not double, name so I can accept another interpretation. But I don't feel the need to come up with one meself.
In any case. I tend to see Mighty Mac as one of those temporary engines. They're actually one of the Ffestiniog double Fairlies (you F.R. nerds can tell me who would be a good candidate) sent to Crovan's Gate for overhaul around 2004 and then spending a year working off some of the cost of their repairs by helping on the S.R.
The F.R. was in negotiations with HIT Entertainment to have their engine appear on the show as a promotional tie-in but it fell through. Rather than discard the script and the model they'd made, HIT filed off the serial numbers, so to speak, and simply renamed/repainted the engine, made some tweaks to the script, and went ahead.
This is a similar story to quite a few character who appeared in the TV series.
And uhhhhh. Yeah. They got on well with the S.R. engines, who are keen for a return visit (hasn't panned out yet).
