“As a sexual persona, Bernhard is unique in the contemporary arts. She is completely American. No other country can produce this kind of brashly individualistic woman, harsh, aggressive, raunchy and physical, with an imagination drenched in thirty flamboyant years of popular culture … Sandra Bernhard has Lenny Bruce’s brooding menace and quick, razor-sharp mind. She re-creates the brainy neuroticism and earthy sensuality of Beatnik women, with their gloomy hipster realism. By her gutsy insistence on singing – in an ever-improving but often thin or fractured voice – Bernhard has rejoined stand-up to its origins in vaudeville, where music and comedy were brassily interwoven … she has the sophisticated worldliness of gay men and the gorgeous theatricality of drag queens … Bernhard embraces the great female personae excluded by the prudish Steinem politburo: bitch, stripper, whore, lady, fashion model …”
/ Camille Paglia’s musings from her think piece “The Female Lenny Bruce: Sandra Bernhard” in the San Francisco Examiner, 6 December 1992 /
Happy birthday to perennially fierce and in-your-face comedienne, singer, actress, authoress, conceptualist, performance artist and Playboy playmate - the divine Sandra Bernhard (born 6 June 1955)! How fitting she was born during pride month! Like so many Gen X-ers, Bernhard first came to my attention as a teenager when she was a regular anarchic (or as The Village Voice put it, “rivetingly obnoxious”) presence on Late Night with David Letterman. And seeing her 1990 film Without You I’m Nothing in a nearly empty cinema (was it The ByTowne? The Mayfair?) as a university student in Ottawa, Ontario blew my freaking mind. Pictured: portrait by Timothy White (circa late 1980s, I estimate?).

geno front and center ^_^ also i asked the Coolest 90s animator ive ever met for critique on the geno renders and he called them 'drawings' and i havent decided if thats something i should correct or not yet. but if im fooling people into thinking they're drawings instead of 3D renders that's probably a good sign. but also a bad sign because does that mean recruiters will overlook it thinking its just concept art?
i hate computers.
but i think what i concluded was that instead of sending people just the one action render, i will send that PLUS a link to the turn around saved to my drive.
edit: just looking at it as its own image my portfolio as a whole still really screams 'girl' and 'colorful' doesnt it? sigh. people keep telling me i need to stop that but unfortunately unless i am being forced like in the case of following an art director i think its just gonna stay colorful.

I've got a few of them to rework. Otherwise most of what you see will stay. ALTHOUGH, I plan on adding other AUs (hence Tekoha), so I will either update this post, reblog with updates, or make a whole new post when the time comes.

UPDATE LOG: 7-14-23: Renamed Wars/Warriors to "Ares". 7-23-23: Updated Tears' ref and renamed to "Spirit". 7-31-23: Updated Time's reference.

"I should draw Māori Miku!" I said to myself. "Just a fun sketch, it shouldn't take me long" I said to myself. Six hours later I come to with this in front of me and a wrist begging for mercy but holy fuck worth it. I love this trend this was so much fun
PLEASE DON'T REPOST ON OTHER SITES!!! ASK ME FIRST!!!!!
DISCLAIMERS AND NOTES ETC.... I'm Pākehā, meaning I am not of Māori descent. I hold so much respect for Māori people, for their values and traditions, and for the fierce pride with which kapa haka is performed. I thought if I was going to design a Māori Miku, it makes sense to dress her in a kapa haka kākahu, as her whole thing is singing and dancing!!! The moko kauae is not based off any real person's. I referenced the temporary moko kauae a lot of kapa haka performers wear!! Was tricky finding out whether or not depicting her with a moko kauae was a good idea, so I went the safe route- showing an aspect of Māori culture without stepping over any boundaries!! Brown eyed Miku is everything to me shout out brown eyed Miku.... I referenced like seven different outfits to put hers together!! I really hope this looks accurate or at least passable. Thanks to adorkastock for the pose ref!!
