Have you ever put yourself and your needs so far down the totem pole of life that you can't even remember how you feel? I say all the time "I'm tired" but am I actually tired or is it something else and I just don't have a name for it. How do I even know what I feel, when what I want and need aren't even registering. I remember a time in my life when I was priority 1. It was a good time. How come now that I have kids and a husband, I can't still be priority 1. Really if I'm not functioning at full capacity then this whole ship is in turbulence. Getting lost in this way isn't so poetic as the millennial instagram posts "lose yourself". It feels terrible to lose yourself. To not have the hold on your own body, your time, your mind. A friend of mine said, "there is no true rest anymore, I wake up running". How true my friend. But why? What are we trying to get ahead of? The kids will grow and learn from our example. Do I want that example to be "I'm tired". My son looked at me the other day when I was sitting on the couch taking a breather with my head in my hands and said "oh mommy your tired, you have a headache". No buddy I just need a minute. But how often have I said that line as a reason I couldn't play, or read books, or just enjoy them. I need to be more mindful of how I actually feel. Think of what words are making the impact. Maybe I should tell him mommy is overwhelmed right now, want to cuddle? Or mommy is nervous right now, want to play cars for a bit?. I should be self aware so I am not so lost in my own skin. I need to take better care of my words and my own body. This vessel won't last forever and not giving it a fighting chance is unfair to myself, and my little loves. There is hope there. Knowing I've been remiss in my own duties to myself. Please don't get so lost. Don't let go of those things that now seem superficial. The little things are what come together to build greater things. Be the great in yourself, for yourself. Now I've rambled. Sending you all love and clairty today.
