My name is Courtney and I was asked if I was interested in writing something for this and honestly, I immediately told myself no. I was so embarrassed of putting my story out there for everyone to know. I've been struggling with depression for a long time now. I noticed it all started when I was in middle school. I felt really lost and I was so young I didn't really know myself yet. Everyone was clicking with people and I felt alone. I kept to myself a lot but in social gatherings I always put on that smile. I met my best friend later on and slowly learned my place in this world. Going into high school, I started feeling better about myself. I met my now husband and everything fell into place. My senior year of high school was the best and worst year of my life. It's my senior year, I was going to graduate and go to prom! However, I lost my best friend in a car accident and less than a year later, my grandfather passed away. Again, I felt lost. Everything after that wasn't right. I went through relationship problems with my boyfriend and friends. I cut myself off from everyone. I lost friends. I lost trust. I lost who I was. I lost everything. I thought about suicide a lot. I questioned everything I did. Would anyone care? Am I worth anything? Would I be missed? How much better would everyone be without me? Nothing seemed like it would get me out of this. One day I woke up and told myself I had to pull myself together if I wanted to save myself. I honestly don't know how I did it. I thought I was okay until about a year ago. My anxiety got the best of me and now I've fallen back into this depression. All those questions I asked myself years ago are all coming back to me. I'm currently fighting this battle. I'm so fortunate for my husband, family, and best friends that pushed me to ask for help. I don't think they realize how amazing they all are. We all have our own battles and we still stick by each other's side. I'm not saying it's easy, but it will get better. Everyone struggles. Everyone has some type of doubt. In the end, we have to pull through. Happiness will overcome all. Find your color and be proud to love yourself.
