 Okay so it was confirmed that for Sofia the First Royal Magic, the same animation studio (Link) and many of the people from the creative team who worked on Firebuds (Link) are going to make it. So, I watched some episodes of Firebuds to try to predict what Royal Magic might be like, and I made an absolutely amazing discovery! Now I am more excited for Royal Magic than ever before because this is amazing and awesome, and it makes me so happy! The parents are treated as completely normal and accepted by everyone else in the show, and there's an episode (Balancing Act) that talks about how families are the people who love you and that they can be bigger or look different than one might expect!

 Anyway, here are some of the main episodes with Violet and her moms:

 These families are just so adorable and it's so amazing that the creative team was able to do this! Like in Sofia the First they weren't able to have any overtly LGBTQ+ characters, in my opinion there was coding for some characters, but nothing openly confirmed in the show itself. In Elena of Avalor they were able to have certain scenes in “Sweetheart's Day” and “Coronation Day” that implied possible gay and lesbian relationships, but nothing overtly stated (along with more coding). And then in Firebuds they are just like: Yep, they’re a couple. They're married. Love is real.

 Anyway, I'm excitedly hopeful that Royal Magic is going to have LGBTQ+ characters, either new ones or characters we already know being confirmed.🏳️‍🌈

Gauge: Gauge is another Dealer's Choice character! I nominated Gauge because her whole thing in Firebuds is not getting recognized as part of the Riley Gang, especially when it's just her and Wiley. I thought it'd be funny to turn that on its head.

Disney Television Animation And Disney Jr. Education & Inclusion Lead Family And Children Nominations For 36 GLAAD Media Awards

The 2025 GLAAD Media Awards nominations have been revealed.

Wicked, Queer, Love Lies Bleeding, Mean Girls and My Old Ass are among the nominees in the outstanding film — wide theatrical release category.

GLAAD, the LGBTQ media advocacy organization, also announced nominees in TV, music, journalism, Broadway and podcast categories. In the animation and family categories, Disney Branded Television snagged multiple nominations with shows and specials from Disney Television Animation, Disney Jr. Education & Inclusion and Disney Original Documentaries.

Disney Television Animation and Disney Jr. Education & Inclusion lead the nominations with Nickelodeon and Netflix as second and third place with shows like Heartstopper, The Fairly Odd Parents: A New Wish and The Really Loud House.

# lowkey hoping that they'll tackling a lil bit mature topics when sofia became a teen# but I doubt it since I think that the audience target will remain the same

 I think they'll still cover darker topics (dark for a preschool show on the Disney Junior channel anyway). While I don't watch them often, it does seem that the brand new very cute and colourful Disney Junior shows are also still dealing with dark topics from time to time. Firebuds is a very cute and goofy show, but it also deals with heavier topics like feeling scared and alone after your parents have been in a car accident or being concerned for your parents who are emergency service workers and coming to terms with those feelings (season 1 episode 4a). And they have an All Souls Day episode about remembering their loved ones who had died (Season 2 Episode 21b).

 Elena of Avalor was always still a Disney Junior show, and it's in the same universe as Sofia the First, and yet they deal with death and murder in clear and meaningful ways. It is way darker than Sofia the First and it was made afterwards, and it was made between 2016 and 2020. For a show being made now in 2024 and 2025 to come out in 2026, I think they'll have ideas for even more complex and nuanced and dark topics as well as cute fun adorable things.

 And I think they'll be able to stretch it out to the time of the EOA finale, but only if they get at least three seasons. Sofia was about 10 in Secret of Avalor, and the Elena of Avalor finale is four years after the Secret of Avalor, so she's about 14 or 15 when we saw her at the coronation. So 3-4 seasons to get to that point would make sense.

I wonder if they will be able to stretch royal magic until sofia becomes a teenager, considering the events of EOA finale
