Gather Conference - Day 2
On Sept 15 & 16, 1400 people gathered together, making it the largest-ever Conference of LGBTQ+ Latter-day Saints and their friends, relatives, and leaders.
The speaker's messages were powerful
The day began with GENTRI The Gentleman's Trio performing. They concluded by having their pianist share his story of coming out and being upset at God, and receiving a message from God which became their song Believe.
Most people first heard of Liv Medoza Haynes when at the 2021 BYU Women's Conference she introduced herself and included the label "queer."
In a church that emphasizes being of good cheer, she points out that Jesus wept and cried, he got angry, and it's fine that we also feel our emotions.
She was wearing a shirt that said, "Keep queer children safe," and she said in choosing what we wear and in our other decisions, choosing to promote love and not hate is the only choice worth making. She also said the only thing straight about her is her hair 😂
Her most powerful statement is that "no verse of scripture is worth losing another life over"
Michael Soto is a transgender man who grew up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mesa, Arizona and is a leader in the U.S. LGBTQ+ rights movement. He spoke about Bridge Building. Choose to be uncomfortable, to learn, to grow, to change. God gave us agency so that we can change and be better to each other. The most important change you can make is to love yourself the way God loves you.
Ben Schilaty is well known inside the LDS Church as a gay man who is active and chooses to follow church standards. He said sharing our stories is letting people see and feel our wounds as Jesus did. When they can feel our hurts, they can share in feeling the pain and empathize with what we've been through. Ben is co-host of the podcast Questions from the Closet and their episodes which receive the most interaction are those where someone has been very vulnerable as they emotionally shared the difficult choices they had to make and the situations they were forced into as a queer person.
Ben Schilaty shared this poem by Carol Lynn Pearson that really hit home for me
I dim I dim I do not doubt If someone blew– I would go out.
I did not. I must be brighter than I thought
After 50 years of experiencing gender incongruence, Bree Borrowman came out as trans in 2019. Bree shared that the hiding, sneaking, and shame led to a loss of Spirit. Being authentic, being vulnerable, leaning into the LGBTQ spectrum brought the Spirit back into her life.
Coming out as trans has brought her great blessings. She feared she would lose everything, but God and Jesus turned out not to be the vindictive judges she thought they were. She was able to lay down her burden and has discovered and learned about herself.
Ashley Hess was a finalist on the 2019 season of American Idol. She performed 4 songs for us, each were beautiful, and each were meaningful. "To the Girl I used to Be" and "Grain of Salt" were wonderful, but my favorite was "Yet." I don't hear many songs from this perspective of ‘I'm trying, so God please don't give up on me.’
Charlie Bird shared with us that he is now married!!!! Big congratulations to him and Ryan. Charlie gave a powerful talk.
Satan's big lie is that an integral part of who we are and which we can't separate ourselves from is incompatible with God. We feel like we are only half a child of God, that we are only half worthy. These beliefs damn us and marginalize an entire demographic.
We do not have to choose between being a child of God and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. We are both.
Allison Dayton is the founder of Lift+Love and along with Ben Schilaty she conceived of the Gather Conference.
She shared a number of scripture verses about God's people in the wilderness and said we find God in the wilderness. Queer people and their families often feel like they are in the wilderness and that's where they find God.
Allison also shared that we are not supposed to be just friends, Zion means we are to be one. We are to be united, not dividing up people by who is good enough and who isn't.
We were never meant to be alone. Ever! The very first thing God called "not good" was loneliness. We can start Zion in our own homes by pulling people in who need a place to belong and welcome them
Jenny Richards & Kelly McConkie Stewart are musicians, members of the LDS church, and committed allies to the LBGTQ community.. They played the piano and cello. Their music was beautiful. At the conclusion of the conference, one of them said they wanted to buy some LDS/LGBT swag from the vendors in the lobby. I offered them some swag that isn't for sale out front. Jenny took the pin and said she is going to wear it to church the next day. Kelly took a sticker while commenting she will put it on her cello case

Jeff Case says we shouldn't focus on outcomes but on the process. For example, we can focus on the outcome of exaltation, or we can focus on the process of becoming Christlike. The process is what will lead to the the outcome we desire.
There are many processes which can lead to the outcome, but when we focus on the outcome we tend to shortcut the process. He spoke of being the father of a son who likes to play Yu-Gi-Oh! and he would tease him, like 'Aren't you too old to still play that game?' He was focused on what he wanted his son's life to look like when he grows up that he lost focus on the process. This is something his son loves so he could choose to participate as a way of spending time with his son and strengthening their relationship. Instead, by focusing on the outcome, he is indicating to his son that he may need to hide things from his dad, which, ironically, would not lead to the outcome that Jeff would want.
Tom Christofferson interviewed Darius Gray, and it felt like we were in the presence of one of the great ones as Darius shared his experience of choosing to join the LDS Church, being one of only 2 African-American students at BYU, meeting regularly with 3 apostles about how to improve life for Black members of the church, and living through the 1978 announcement and change. I nodded in agreement when Darius declared he's heard more Jesus talk at this conference than he hears in a typical LDS Sacrament Meeting.
John Gustav-Wrathel is married to his husband and chooses to attend church despite having been excommunicated many years ago. He said that when he looks back on his life, even as he was one of the most faithful people he knew, he was convinced he had no faith because he was taught that if he had enough faith that his sexual orientation would be changed. He believed the teachings of the time instead of listening to God and the Spirit and trusting his own experiences.
Steven Kapp Perry was host throughout the conference and took a moment to share a thought. You can never know that you are truly loved unless you share who you truly are.
Meghan Decker is a gay Latter-day Saint and has written 2 books. She began by sharing that life is hard and can be dark. She encourages us to share with each other what is saving our life now.
She grew up in the 1970's hearing all the harmful church teachings about queer people and it has left scars in her. She now knows that God loves her and has good intent for her.
When Meghan moved to Provo, UT, the first person in her ward to greet her was Janice Kapp Perry. Janice composed a song for the Gather Conference. She recognized the LGBTQ experience is not hers and needed help to get the lyrics right. She contacted Meghan and Meghan's words were used to create the verses of the song.
While reviewing what Meghan had written, Janice commented that the word "broken" is so strong and they should find an alternate word, but Meghan insisted that's how she and many other queer Latter-day Saints have felt. Meghan pointed out that during this day of the conference 8 of those who spoke used the word "broken" to describe how they felt.
Janice then asked, "Do you think my two boys felt that way?"
That question really hit my heart, a mom gaining insight into the pain of her queer children.
Janice wrote a song titled "All Are Alike Unto God." It was performed on the first day of the conference by Molly Flake and John Bowers. I wished I had recorded it as the words mean a lot to me. The final act of the conference before the closing prayer was for all those in attendance to sing the song. Janice has made the song available for free, you can access the sheet music on the Gather Conference website

Magic the Gathering: Innistrad (Innistrad block)
My favorite Land cards
The plane of Innistrad is divided in four great regions, called the "Provinces".
The first province, Gavony, is the "safest" area for humans in Innistra, and thus the province with the highest number of humans. Gavony is home to Thraben, the High City. Ah, Thraben! The largest city of the continent. The center of the Church of Avacyn. A fortress built to resist all supernatural attacks. It is here that Avacyn the Archangel once resided, wthin Thraben's Great Cathedral, and the city is located on the mesa of a lake known as the "Lake of the Herons" (in Innistrad, herons are believed to the the birds of the moon, and by extension symbolize goodness and Avacyn's power). At the northern edge of Gavony, Thraben is a city of cleanliness and order, inhabited mostly by clerics, merchants and artisans. Everything is neatly divided and organized within the city, usually in ways reflecting the social order. Take the Great Cathedral. During worship, it divides itself in three parts: the Chapel of Noble Peers (opulent, gilded chapel for high-level clergymen and nobility) ; Midvast Hall (larger and less opulent hall, for ordained people and the lesser clergy) ; Common Cloisters (covered corridors alongside Midvast Hall, where commoners stand during worship). The divisions extends to the numerous walls that surround Thraben - some old, some recent, some well-kept, some in ruins, some great, some small, they form a complex interwoven puzzle. There are five main walls: the Outer Wall (main defense of the city, thick and high wall that has been several time expanded to avoid the overcrowding of the city) ; the Merchant's Wall (a series of halls that acts as the market square and commerce-center in the city) ; the Bloodless Wall (a prison for vampires, where they are chained to the wall and left to starve to death) ; the Fang Wall (an execution ground for werewolves, their fangs are embedded between the stones of the wall) ; and the Child's Wall (Thraben's oldest wall, surrounding the Old Cathedral, with the name of every child born in Innistrad engraved on it - it is a pilgrimage site for new parents, who believe having their child's name on the wall expands their life).
From Thraben, all sorts of "smaller towns radiate outward", throughout Gavony's rocky moors, and rolling hills and heaths, dotted with "small copses of trees". Safety is the main concern and currency in Gavony: the rich, wealthy and powerful live comfortably within fortified manors, while the poor spend all of their money on talismans, magic wards and blessings of the Church (because the Church does ask for a bit of money in exchange of their heavenly power). And while there is a growing resentment towards the Church's greed and self-centeredness (the higher ups of the Church, with sheltered and comfortable lives, tend to not understand the harshness of the rest of the continent), there is still a very strong sense of community within humanity in the province, and the Church stays the basis of human society. As the Guide to Gavony explains: the basic social unit of Gavony is a parish, organized around a local chapel, and they can be as tight as clans. In Innistrad, the Church is the State and the State is the Church: judges and lawyers are ordained by the Church, and in return the Church keeps confirming and supporting the rule of the law. All education across Innistrad is the domain of the Church. Merchants and artisans are the only jobs that are technically free and independant from the Church, but even them have to respect the Church, because their guilds and organizations (called "fellowships" have to be sanctioned by the Church.
Unfortunately, having a high population of humans also means Gavony has the largest numbers of cemeteries across Innistrad - which also means more undeads and more geists than elsewhere on the continent.
The second province is Kessig, the "vast, wooded hinterland" of Innistrad. It is said that autumn is perpetual within these deep woods, for the green constantly mixes itself with golds and muted reds ; and at night, under the moonlight, everything become "stark and steel-like". Humans carved themselves farming villages and rolling farmlands within the dense, dark woods ; and if they are not farmers, they will be hunters and trappers. But everybody knows that it is a suicidal act than to venture in the woods at night: Ulvenwald, the misty woods, are haunted by both ghosts and werewolves. Ulvenald is almost "supernaturally dense" - no normal wood can have so much aspen, birch and maple trees growing in such a dark, sinuous and compact ensemble. Travellers of the forest at best will be haunted or attacked by spirits and beasts - at worst, they will mysteriously disappear in the mist.
The humans who live in Kessig have a life strongly focused on work. You need to work to survive: Kessigers learned to be self-reliant, pragmatic and plainspoken. They are farmers, millers, weavers and stonemasons: they don't purchase their tools, they do it themselves ; they do not learn mathematics or history, they learn the harvest cycles and the edible weeds. They are hard-headed and unpretentious - and are part of Avacyn's religion in their own way. They do not trust the cathars (holy warriors) of the big cities ; they do not like the Gavony ghost-hunters who are too pritine and shiny ; they do not understand the decrees of the aristocrats of the High City of Thraben... But they believe in Avacyn with all their heart, and their motto is: "The worked earth below us, the hand-hewn stone walls around us, and the angel above us". This is their world. Given superstition and fear rules in Kessig, it is polite when you meet someone for the first time to show that you wear an item made of silver (unfortunately there is a lot of "counterfeit" silver going around, especially sold at Nephalia). Wreaths of living wood are a common gift, and are placed on the door of homes where a child was just born. Before going onto a journey, people either fast up to a whole day, or eat sour root soup : it is believed it makes humans less appealing for werewolves and hungry beasts. To be fat and well-fed in Kessig is to become an easy prey. A local tradition in Kessig is the "Sleep Revel". On the anniversary of a person's death, they are celebrated - or rather, one successful year stayed in the ground is celebrated. The "undisturbed sleep of one's ancestors is seen as almost a greater blessing than the continuing birthdays of one's living relatives".
The werewolves are the main dangers in Kessig, because they haunt the woods in packs or as lone wolves. It is known that the "howlpacks" as they are called wane and waxe with the moon, and that many werewolves live secretly among Kessigers (causing a lot of suspicion and speculation among Kessig's human communities). Add to that the fact nobody agrees on how to detect, hunt or cure werewolves - let's just say persecution and prejudice can run rampant around. Kessig is also a land plagued by geists - but not "regular" geists like other provinces, oh no! These are green-aligned geists, that is to say not ghosts of the living, but wild spirits of nature opposing the civilized life. Mischievous poltergeists, blood mists that devour the living, surreal fires that burn of a cold flame, beautiful nature spirits of vine and thorn, feral possessed beasts... Due to the omnipresence of werewolves and nature spirits, most of the other supernatural threats are banished, but it doesn't mean they are not absent... For example, at the foot of tall stone hills, a smoking and boiling fissure called the "Devil's Breach" is known to cause minor and sporadic demonic activity.
Trivia: Due to not having much around, Kessigers consider zombies as symbols of the "evils of the big city", and in their mind they associate and equate "necromantic alchemy" with all the other vices of "big cities": murderous conspiracies, black market, religious heresy, and prostitution.
I will place the two other provinces under the cut:
The third province is Stensia, which is fully and completely under the control of vampires. Stensia is known as the "darkest" part of Innistrad, figuratively and literaly. The sun never manages to fully shines beyond Stensia's perpetual cover of oddly-colored clouds - only the light of the moon can truly appear. It is a very mountainous area dominated by the "Geier Reach", a mountain chain of impossibly high peaks of indigo and black rocks. The forests there are of evergreen, forested midlands of black pine "riddled with whisps of thick fog". The mountains split the region into two distinctive valleys with a dusky pastoral charm, and two distinctive bogs, where old graves and dead conifers slowly sink. The mountains also separate the wary human villages inhabited by fearful, if not paranoid humans, who stay however loyal to their land and passionate about their lifestyle ; from the vampire manors and the blood-thirsty rulers of the region. Right in the middle of the mountains, you can find Ashmouth, a deep chasm glowing with magma at the bottom - and a literal gateway to Hell...
Stensia is divided between "human culture" and "vampire culture". The human villages are prepared for vampire attacks: they are all circled by moats (that vampires cannot cross when the moon is out), and they have nearby hawthorn tree groves to keep access to "living wood". Large cottages and rich people place mirrors on their frontdoors, and build their house near a hawhthorn tree, that the eldest child of the family must care for. Due to the rocky soil and dim light of the region, Stensia humans are not farmers, but relies on sheep for their woll, milk, leather and meat - Stensian wool is said to be the finest of all Innistrad, and thanks to the vampires' presence, werewolves do not haunt the area. Generations of seeing their children and neighbors die, and of living near the vampire threat, made humans stoic, non-expressive and non-demonstrative. They are proud and fervent, but will seem rude, violent and cold to outsiders.
Vampires meanwhile, are self-centered narcissists who believe themselves the guardians and "shepherds" of humanity, and that the sacrifice of their humanity is somehow something humans should "honor". Vampires are basically the most decadent nobility you will ever find, living in days of feasts, balls and parties, keeping all sorts of grudges and organizing betrayals just to amuse themselves, demanding the finest and most luxurious items for themselves. Olivia Voldaren, a prominent vampire of the area (I posted her card in the Multicolor section), invented a disturbing three-days feast called "The Court of the Vampire King/Queen". The principle is simple: kidnap a human being, bring him to the greatest gathering of vampires of Stensia, and name them "King of the Vampires" or "Queen of the Vampires". This is a vampire's Carnival or Feast of Fools: the mock-queen is served the best foods and drinks, entertained by all sorts of shows, and the vampires around must obey the human's every command (except those of making the ruler "abdicate"). At the end of the three days of party, the human is killed and their blood shared among all the revelers.
The last province is Nephalia, the coastal side of Innistrad. Nephalia is the watery region of the continent - nearly treeless, it faces the foggy and dark sea of Innistrad, and all the rivers of the inland end up here, creating all srots of deltas, marshes and bogs. The beach is made of a silvery sand, the towns are all here small or medium-sized ports, and the region is filled by a system of tunnels, underground pathways and sea-caves known as the Erdwal or "The Ditch". It was originally a set of trenches between the three main towns to resist zombie and werewolf attacks. Then it became a "network of defensible walkways" to transport the goods and ensure the trades in a region filled with hungry zombies, angry geists and demons. Merchants turned this system into the true "artery of trade", and then a "bustling underground economy" appeared within it, "in all manner of grey and black market goods". On the Erdwall you can buy assassins, human blood, curses, necromancy spells... It is a "trench marketplace of colorful rogues, seedy merchants, filfthy sailors and gaunt stangers, all doing business in dark alleyways and roughly hewn tunnels branching off the main trench". Alchemists, skaberen and ghoulcallers have a notably active presence there - selling human blood, buying pieces of corpses for their flesh golems, dealing with transmutation of base metals into pure silver... Sometimes a "defective" creation of a skaberen can get loose and slaughter all those in the tunnels. Nephalia managed to create a cold "understanding" and an uneasy "truce" with the Church of Avacyn - as long as those dark dealings happen below the ground, the Church won't do anything. This is why it is commonly said that "sloughs, sea mists and mysteries cloak Nephalia's commerce and crimes".
Nephalia is notorious for being the most "mixed" province in terms of population. Human, geists and vampires alike haunt the region, seeking business, secrets, or solitude. It is money and commerce that unites them. Nephalia needs the Church of Avacyn to maintain a general order ; but they also buy or sell human beings to vampires as "food". Skaberen and ghoulcallers profit of the illegal "corpse market" of the region, and can find little secretive places where they carry on their experiences - as long as they stay discreet and hidden. The "metzalar", the merchants of Nephalia are truly the glue that maintains the region cohesive, keeping each party separated from each other, and yet linking them all in a web of exchanged goods and money flow.
There are many more info about Nephalia on Magic's official Guide to Innistrad, but a last trivia: the region suffers from the "Breath of the Sleepless", a phenomenon where the spirits and geists come and go with the tide. Given the tide is related to the moon, its ebbs and flows have something mystical that attracts or repels ghosts. While there are many geists in Nephalia, the most common types are "niblis" (frost phantoms) and "marei" (the ghosts of drowned sailors).

Memorable moments, lines, and my observations from season 4:
Smoke
-Howard saying “Jimmy, don’t” while standing in front of the coroner van right before it drove off made me gasp
-Jimmy’s reply to Howard bearing his soul about causing Chuck’s suicide sent a chill down my spine
Breathe
-Lmao at Jimmy fawning shock over the printer being so good it could counterfeit money. Bob played that so well.
-Kim goes OFF on Howard, like DAMN. I would watch this woman scream the phone book
-Kim kissing Jimmy on the couch 🥹
Something Beautiful
-Me when Jimmy opened the door for the twins at the Vet’s 😳
-I feel confident the Vet saying “can you not hit every damn pothole, please!?” was a Joe DeRosa ad lib
-The printer shop guy sleeping in his office specifies he wants his pizza sliced- in my head cannon that’s a Breaking Bad call back to the pizza place that doesn’t slice their pie
-HEY GALE!!!
Talk
-The cell phone store aesthetic is spot on. My dad had a few Nextel/Sprint stores in the early 00’s and like Jimmy I had to make my own fun while hanging out there for hours on end
-The twins raiding the compound was v Breaking Bad-esq
-Just realized the advice Mike gives Jimmy after Bag Man about realizing you can forget came from Stacy talking about Matty in group!
Quite a Ride
-We get our first flashback to the Breaking Bad timeline!
-Jimmy’s hair is SO fucking cute in phone selling montage
-I did not enjoy seeing Howard so broken in the courthouse bathroom
Piñata
-Fuck you, Jimmy
Something Stupid
-The “Need to call? Buy from Saul!” business card we see in the opening montage is just the next step in his catchphrase evolution. I wholeheartedly appreciate the attention and care that went into showing us exactly how Jimmy got to Breaking Bad Saul
-I love that you don’t know who Jimmy is giving the office tour to and it’s Huel lol
-You’ve been selling drop phones? On the street?
-KIM’S FACE when Suzanne Erickson refers to Jimmy as a scumbag disbarred lawyer
Coushatta
-SO many silly one liners:
-I’ll leave the bottle
-Are you prosecuting Santa Clause!?
-Clarence is going at the organ, I’m gonna step into the vestibule
-I will be with you PRESENTLY!!!
-The fake donations on the church website is some tasteful foreshadowing/calling back to Saul laundering Walt’s money through fake online donations
-The staircase kiss!!
-I love the painting in the boardroom at Mesa Verde. It’s called The Blue Rigi: Lake of Lucerne Sunrise
-PACA PACA PACA it’s LALO!!!
-Overall this episode is a 10/10. It’s silly and entertaining but also feels so pivotal on a rewatch because it sets the stage for everything else that will happen. The entire show can kinda be divided into pre and post Coushatta
Wiedersehen
-Slow down, I’m wearin flip flops!
-I didn’t know I needed an origin story for that fucking bell until I got it
-The! … suspense… ! They really make you think Werner is gonna explode and then he does but not how you expected
-Jimmy driving like a bat out of hell through the S&C parking garage is a vibe
-The way Jimmy’s voice quivers when he says to Kim “you look at me and you see Slippin Jimmy” 😭I just want to comfort him
Winner
-ICONIC karaoke scene
-Mike’s gum trick was so slick. What can I say the man knows parking
-Two details about Kristy Esposito reinforce Jimmy seeing himself in her: Howard’s question to her was about working with elders and she’s the only candidate wearing a fun funky shirt
-Michael, is that you? 😏
-I’ll do everything in my power to be worthy of the name McGill… changes his name 5 minutes later

How would lady justice interact with tumble town?
(SORRY FOR THE LATE ANSWER) Lady Justice appears at first when the town needs a Sheriff and she sends the hat to the one she chose The Sheriff comunicates with the Goddess by either praying or in prophetic dreams.
She can appear physically only in holy places of her religion (such as temples,,sacred lands, churches, any place to worship her) ,otherwise she would send a messanger/sign of her intervention (like the presence of specific animals)
Another way she communicates with her believers, during the night, a star can be seen only in the mesa where her followers live, if the star shines brightly even during cloudy nights, it means that fortune will come, otherwise if the star doesn't shines even during a clear sky, misfortune will soon be near

There's a Verde Visión update coming soon (for some reason, I chose to draw and paint an entire church facade for this chapter) but I wanted to take a moment to mention it's the story's...
✒️ Scrivenerversary! ✒️
I'm not sure exactly when I started writing it, but according to Scrivener's writing stats, a year ago today is when I compiled and organized all my scattered snippets and scenes and started getting serious about finishing it.
To celebrate, I thought I'd share a few songs that remind me of the story...
youtube
"Far From Any Road" by The Handsome Family
This song is just an entire desert mood. Which is why I found it weird that they chose it for the opening theme of the first season of True Detective, which is set in...Louisiana. (Not exactly famous for its deserts, y'all.)
Anyway, this song is very much Esme's vibe.
From the dusty mesa Her looming shadow grows Hidden in the branches Of the poison creosote
According to the band, the song is about a legendary cactus that blooms every ten thousand years and drives you mad if you look at it. Let's hope Isabela doesn't learn how to grow that one...
In the hushing dusk Under a swollen silver moon I came walking with the wind To watch the cactus bloom
Slant rhymes. Slant rhymes everywhere.
youtube
"Valórame" by Gran Sur (CW: Flashing in video.)
Another desert mood. "Valorar" means to value or appreciate, so the best translation of the title I've seen is "Cherish Me".
Te quiero como nadie te ha querido (I love you like no one has loved you) Te extraño más de lo que imaginé (I miss you more than I imagined) Te cuido como el ave cuida el nido (I care for you like a bird cares for its nest) Valórame (Cherish me)
The chorus feels particularly appropriate for Bruno.
Disculpa que el destino no te lo haya dicho ya (Sorry that destiny hasn't told you already) Yo soy a quien verás, junto a ti al caminar (I'm the one you'll see, next to you as you walk)
youtube
"My Silver Lining" by First Aid Kit (CW: Flashing in video.)
This song reminds me of Esme's life on the road. The driving beat, the lyrics, all make me think of someone trying to leave their past behind and telling themselves to keep moving.
Gotta keep on going Looking straight out on the road Can't worry 'bout what's behind you Or what's coming for you further up the road
Of course, this verse reminds me of Esme for reasons that readers might pick up on...
I've woken up in a hotel room My worries as big as the moon Having no idea who or what or where I am
Really, I could just quote the entire song here. Nearly every verse feels like it fits her. And I like that it ends on a hopeful note...
Something good comes with the bad A song's never just sad There's hope, there's a silver lining Show me my silver lining Show me my silver lining
youtube
"Tú sí sabes quererme" by Natalia Lafourcade
Fellow shorty Natalia Lafourcade is one of my all-time favorite artists. I got to see her sing "Recuerdame (Remember Me)" from the movie Coco live at a small concert and the way I cried like a baby...
This serenata, "You know how to love me", is about finding someone, at long last, who loves you just the way you want to be loved, imperfections and all.
Ha pasado tanto tiempo (It's been so long) Finalmente, descubrí tus besos (Finally, I discovered your kisses) Me enredaste en tu mirada (You entangled me in your gaze) Me abrazaste con todos mis defectos (You embraced me with all my flaws)
Just try not to dance to it; you can't.
youtube
"Magia" by Andrés Cepeda ft. Sebastían Yatra
I'm grateful to Encanto for many reasons but one of them is introducing me to Sebastían Yatra. When this song came up while I was listening to him on Spotify, I immediately thought of Bruno in this story.
This is another one where I could just quote the whole song. Let's see, we've got hiding your true feelings...
Quiero decirte cosas que había escondido (I want to tell you things I've hidden) Pero hay palabras que no me salen (But there are words that won't come out) Y no me dejan hablarte (And they won't let me talk to you) Fueron tantas las noches siendo tu amigo (There were so many nights I was your friend) Pero hay verdades que no te sabes (But there are truths that you don't know) Y tengo que confesarte (And I have to confess to you)
Destiny...
Quiero pensar que estaba escrito en mi destino (I'd like to think it was written in my destiny) Encontrarme en tu camino (To find myself on your path)
Mutual pining...
Eso que yo siento cuando tú estás conmigo (What I feel when you're with me) Eso que tú sientes que yo estoy contigo (What you feel when I'm with you) Ya está claro, niña, que no somos amigos (It's already clear, girl, we're not just friends)
And, of course, magic!
Siento magia (I feel magic) En tus ojos siento magia (In your eyes I feel magic) Es tan fuerte y se contagia (It's so strong and it spreads) Y hoy quiero gritarle a la gente que te quiero (And today I want to shout to everyone that I love you)

"Rumors Are Flying" by Frankie Carle And His Orchestra, vocals by Marjorie Hughes
Here's a period-appropriate tune and basically Esme's POV the whole time Bruno thinks he's keeping things on the down-low...
Rumors are flying That you've got me sighing That I'm in a crazy kind of a daze A lazy sort of a haze When I go walking I hear people talking They say our affair is not just a passing phase And they whisper 'bout the flowers You keep sending me by the dozen And they wonder 'bout the hours That you spend with me, it keeps them buzzin' Rumors are flying And I'm not denying That people are sure I'm falling in love with you 'Cause for a change, darling All the rumors are true
youtube
"Over The Rainbow" performed by Judy Garland
I mean, I had to include this one, right?
💚
Thanks for listening (and reading)!

WTNV quick rundown - 91 - The 12:37
Co-written by James Moran.
Need a rundown for earlier episodes, live shows or books? Click here or visit the tag on my blog!
Do not bite the hand that feeds you. Grab it first, take the keys, set yourself free, THEN bite the hand and run. Welcome to Night Vale.
The 12:37 train from Red Mesa has arrived at the NV station. The station which hasn't existed in over a century and which had the little league baseball field built on top of it. So basically it's just sitting in the field. Sheriff Sam, a avid transpotter, is investigating.
People in deer masks start to gather around the train (as well as people wanting to take selfies in front of it) and hand out cockroaches with slogans like 'business in the front ; knife in the back' and '#notalltrains' printed on them.
When the train opens it's doors, nobody comes out, but the SSP force some of the previously fenced in onlookers to go inside. They do not come out. The people in deer masks, same as those who built the subway station before, make a V formation.
The SSP enter the train. All the onlookers enter the train. Gradually, everyone in NV starts to enter the train, including Cecil himself, through some kind of psychic urge. The people in deer masks are pounding the ground with their open palms.
Cecil says he could hear and feel the train moving but it didn't seem to actually go anywhere, more the world outside the train started to go back in time, becoming more wild. Sometimes he was seated next to his fellow citizens, sometimes he was there alone. A woman in a deer mask approaches him. She tells him in a vague way about the people who are moving crates containing miniture buildings. She says she is the destroyer. Cockroaches swarm all over her and then over Cecil, who tries to swat them away. When he does, he's suddenly alone in the baseball field. Nobody seems to know anything about the train and Teddy Williams won't answer any questions about the mini town under Lane 5 or it's buildings. Cecil has a cockroach on him which has 'Huntokar' printed on it's back.
Weather: "Windows" by Angel Olsen
There are hundreds of people gathered on Somerset, making a line which seems to have no end and doubles back on itself despite seemingly being straight. Nobody knows where it's going but citizen Wayne Ferry says it 'must be something cool' and is standing in line with his friend Shirelle. This is a part of the day which is still in existence when Cecil 'exits' the train.
The traffic segment is possibly about Diane Crayton or at least someone who works at her old office, as Catharine and Tina are both mentioned and these were Diane's co-workers.
The Lazer Tag Adventure Pit is being reopened at the Desert Flower BAAFC. Teddy says he just never thought to turn down the power on the lazers before and apologises for it. He also directly calls Cecil out for how he takes somebodies statements and turns them into long, rambling quotes that you almost forget are others statements until he says 'so-and-so says'. He also says he thinks Cecil is condescending and dislikes how Cecil puts on voices and mocks his venecular and punctuation.
Stay tuned next for the sound of a beating heart, a muffled sob, a nearby whisper while you are supposedly alone in the dark, and all of your other favorite jams of the 1980s and 90s. And as always, good night, Night Vale. Goodnight.
Proverb: Here is the church. Here is the steeple. Open it up and see all the people screaming about the giant that just tore the roof open.

Happy Thanksgiving, my friends! Think of this post as a bountiful Thanksgiving table, a cornucopia of treats on which to feast, and we’re not just talking turkey! The first spot is the old Zorn’s building in Bethpage, New York. Zorn’s has provided the centerpiece of many a Long Island Thanksgiving table since 1940. My photo was taken in 2017, and this building was since razed for a car dealership. Zorn’s moved next door and took the neon sign with it, thankfully. Next up is a bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, called the Turkey’s Nest Tavern. I took this curious photo – notice the sign the woman is holding – while running the New York City Marathon in 2019. I smiled, but not because I was guilty of said offense! Our third stop is the shuttered Wishbone Fried Chicken in Tifton, Georgia. Lots of folks today will be snapping wishbones and hoping to get the bigger part – may your wish come true, regardless! Next up is the Pilgrim’s Pride Motel in Wildwood, New Jersey. There are two bushes flanking the sign, so photographing it was a challenge, one I was glad to accept. I love this time-traveling pilgrim. He’s dressed for the 1670s, but there’s something about him that’s more 1970s. Now, one of the first things I do on Thanksgiving Day is play “Alice’s Restaurant” by Arlo Guthrie. The 1967 song is forever tied with Thanksgiving Day. The Cliff Notes? Two years earlier, Guthrie was arrested for illegally dumping garbage from a dinner he’d shared with his pal, Alice Brock, at this church outside Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where she lived. He wrote a song about it, and the rest is history. Today it’s the Guthrie Center, complete with a nod to the red VW Microbus in the lyrics, parked right outside. Finally, and soon enough, it will be time to eat! I present five signs with clear instructions to do just that: Clifton, New Jersey’s Tick Tock Diner advises eating heavy: Al’s Hamburgers in Green Bay, Wisconsin, gets right to the point; a shuttered restaurant in Cabazon, California, no longer delivers what it promises; Bill Johnson’s had the right idea for the holiday in Mesa, Arizona; and finally, an “Ideal” way to end this post, in Minneapolis. #retrologist (at United States of America) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClWghUDLmH7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

'²² 9th Winter Week.
I. A Broken Watch — 14 ago 2022, domingo.
1. I really need wrotten about sedentarismo. That's a pauta... 2. I just have almoçado wit Dad, so yeah. That's itt. Humm... ogah. Ogah. 3. I have a deception wif Medium. What are you guys doing? Removing the édition of the app??? I'm really not understanding you... 4. Facebook really is not the same thing, can you? 5. So, I came to Tumblr and I just liking. 6. I taked this picture yesterday. The céu was very orange that time, but the camera doesn't didn't catch the colour... →
Tumblr media
→ Remembering, it's a #nofilter photo. Ogah, I really have to varrer a cocina, right? Babay! :*. 7. Just faxinated and regatted the plants. What now? A break ofcourse. Humm... Ogah. Ogah. Ogah. Ai kent mudar the tamanho das pics here. But its okay. In the Blogger and the Wordpress there is some marks about them. Aruknow. Well, Tumblr is more resoc. The former both not. They are don't, you know? They are platforms for individual blogs and all. Not the same thing. Not to accompanyë. 8. By the way, a good lesson about "former and latter" usings. 9. More by the way than, "latter" pronuncia-se "lérar". Como "escada". 10. Even more by the way than, the old word "lætra" means something like "late". Wait some oper soon about at. Right? Aruknow if it will be a novel or a conto or a big big buk. But there will be a text like this. So, wait for soon, Lætra. 11. 12. A dica de faxina is cleaning mirrors with a pano with desinfectant. ;). Como limpar espelhos? 13. What about now? So, the day is ending. I thorabout a watch broken, just for the day is incomplete. But it has just happened only what necessarily haves to be. No more, no less. And that is it. That occur faxina, what is good. And the Tumblr has been found. And that's great.
II. Soaking Beans Overnight — 15 ago 2022, segunda.
1. Ogah. A lot of coisas right today. But I'm here to remember of molhar o feijão, right? 2. I love this site. 3. And this. 4. And don't forget this one. 5. Thereis so much to tell. And I have bugaddo about another sort of things and all. You know? But, with calma, I think there will be possible to angariar everything, you know? Ogah. Relaxing. Ogah. 6. First of all, I have to respect the moment for enthusiasm or anxiety anyways. I have to respect though. Humm. So, ogay. Humm... Fine. Humm. Ogah. Ogah. The day started with the reading of some study about the nature of the "church" word. And I have some A Parada. And that's great. And... By the way, my packet of HBO MAX ends today. So, you know, maybe I haven't saw some movie more late, you know? And... that's it. But I have some good ideas about work. The first was about Boca Suja, a treat about the tongue and the mouth. The cover will present some Gollum's saliva of a kinda. Whatever. A critic. Right? Escrever terrir? Araucárias? 7. I just want to post enall. Ahh. Enall. Ogah. Humm... Ogah. Ogah. I have a lot of priorities for today. A lot of compromissos. But I can't posso exagerar... Never. Ir com calma and cada coisa. Ah. Well... The next pass would be the stove. And the spaghetti. Right? But not now. I'm descansing. Okay. Ogah — The Really Baiography, I thought about this ontonight. Who knows, right? Humm... É. 8. Da tag "50 Fatos sobre Mim": 1. Meu animal preferido é a lontra. 9. 10. Ogay, I will make now some spaghetti. And remember of using some day caril. Oright. I will listen too to Paulo enall. 11. Ultraprocessados. 12. I really don't know more what to do... I have a movie to see and a packet to deactivate. And... that's it. DarkSide is so heavy, you know? There are real bad books around there... Really heavy opers. Don't deservish opers. Nah. Really nah. I don't know if I will comprar their books at the future... Maybe not. They are encouraging that stuff. I would be financing that kind of stuff. But each case is a case. Maybe some books is only here. Daí... You know... God will tell me. At the time. 13. Now a song, a melody, because yeh... →
→ 14. [Tached.]. 15. TBR em Cacos, do Paulo Ratz: 1. Livro mais recente da estante. 2. Livro com sinopse desconhecida. 3. Livro que ninguém fale sobre. 4. Livro muito adiado. 16. I just haven watched MM. Whatever. 17. Each act that you done is a compromisso. Each one. Lazer, each one. Vocação, each one. Let's somar. I have to accomplish 73 compromissos por dia. I have inflated the basis, but so around 50, 40 if good. Compromissos. Per day. Today I got 17. From 73. So that's a media. 20 if good compromissos. If I have circa 40. It faltou 5 activities sucintal. I can't pude fazer. Por conta da alma. Por equilíbrio. I have to dedicate more time to lazer. And isso tirou dessas outras atividades. Tomorrow and ever, I will not be capable to do all of the compromissos. I will choose the ones more necessary. Já que everything is a compromisso. So, if my soul needs lazer, I have to do lazer. And abandon all other activities. This will always be that. I will choose between the compromissos, the ones more necessary. From a cardápio. Forever. This check has time instead money. And the time we have cover only a few products, not all of them. We can choose which they will be, but not all of them, just a few. 18. But if my soul needs lazer all the time? When I do all the other compromissos? 19. A good way to see this is encare the Proplano as a cardápio. Okay?].
III. Soaking Beans Overnight: In Fact — 16 ago 2022, terça.
1. I love animal videos. Here there is a bocado of thom. Anyway. Today is a sequel from yesterday, já que eu forgotten of molhar o feijão, e o farei HOJE. Orite? 2. I ron no if I will interact or curtir or leer or acompaniär as coisas and texts and all por aqui. Mas são coisas legais, iuno? Humm... Anyway. Ogah. Let's the time romper. 3. I perceive too about the compromissos and the dores orell que não há como escapar da dor. And I estou deixando a dor maior falar... Basta ignorar o Prazer completamente. / VeC deu-me equilíbrio quanto a isso.]. 4. 5. I'm alegre now. [Talvez eu esteja dando muita atenção para o Humor. E isso esteja me atrasando. Aruno if this act of registering things is of alma or mente. But it's very, very good! Where do I put it? Pensei em lazer. Pois alivia. Descarrego minha alma nesse lugar. E ela fica aliviada. Então é alma. E serve para a mente enall. Assim, esse ato estaria abaixo de lazer. Ou talvez acima. Não sei. Acho que abaixo. Assim, Equilíbrio, Vocação, Lazer, Registro e... Registro viria antes de Desígnio e Estética. E removeria Estética. Humm... I really need to shave. Maybe Caderneta. Okay, that's putted. 6. Okay, about today aforabaut comer fora iuno? Because there's no feijão. And I would make only pasta and linguiça or some. And make soon. First there's assucal. Now? Think again. If sim, later the almoço. E eu faria isso. Arroz, macarrão, linguiça e cebola. Posso fazer. But I don't feel this way. I have to buyrer. Okay. And... Assucal now. I love journaling. 7. "Plumitivo" é relativo à escrita. 8. Ogah, I have hunger, but I can't come. There is so much to write about here and to tell... What am I do? :/. Whatever. Let's see. First, I have almoçado and so on. There is really too much... Too much. But I can't... :(. 9. I really don't know what to do iuno? É que há tristeza and compromissos. For now, I would have to look upon all of the compromissos, but I can't... I'm sick. And I need remedy. Here is the remedy. 10. I really have to passar o cardápio do Divino Fogão para "Desígnio — Arco 8.". By the way, when I desire eat some luncher, go there. 11. [Tached.]. 12. Love ya, guys. :*. 13. Well, I have some compromissos inadiáveis to tomorrow. They are: ⁴Comezana; ⁸Barba; ²Toalhas; ⁷Área e Dracena; ⁵Ordem; ⁶Banheiraixo; ¹Questões [Relógio, ?.]; ³Leitura. And that's it. All of them are irrevogáveis. Vou numerar. Awrite. Será 1h de leitura cronometrada por dia. The book will be... think over. I guess my book haul is so increasing. To be read ainda este ano. Quem sabe este mês...
IV. The Changed Clock, ou Quatro Copos de Alumínio — 17 ago 2022, quarta.
1. I remember some good video... →
youtube
→ 2. I really want to watch Final Destination 2 today... Let's see. 3. Now, exactly at 3h49, I will cumprir os compromissos de ontem. Well, I maybe will diminush the quantity of the compromissos por day. Let's see how it works and take a better decision if the case. 4. I have to ir para a Gorete comprar a pilha. 5. Toalhas lavando... 6. Now, next. It would be readder. One hour redonda. But I'm a kinda hungoror. And aruno. But I would finish circa 5h21. And the sun has se posto. So... it's more important to read or to clean? Aruno. 7. I can't acredito that I have just accomplished three compromissos and I have deliver me from these... →
Tumblr media
→ Unfortunately, Leitura has to come off. Because it was the most dispensable of the compromissos. At the time, iuno. But there is something to think. And I will more late. 8. Barattas. 9. [Tached.]. 10. Okay, I'm just foring and concluding que... já são 22h. E... Comezana? No more. Toalhas? By the half? Yes. So. I just accomplished 5 compromissos. An that's will be the daily meira. For bujos enall. Iuno? For tomorrow: Comezana; Toalhas; Pedrária; Ordem; Rega. But if the plants will take one compromisso, só restam 4 actually. Ordem too. So, restam 3. Há o básico diário mais três. Sad. So, for tomorrow: Comezana 🥈; Toalhas 🥈; 2B 🥇. Somente. 12. I'm sad. It's like impossible. But let's go on and try. Vamos tentar, mesmo desencorajado. [Deu certo, :D.].
V. Termites, ou As Três Medalhas — 18 ago 2022, quinta.
1. Okay, I just have to change one compromisso, or alvo, aruno how I will chamar [Tudo isso acabou evoluindo para a doutrina MPM: Micropremência, Premência, Macropremência. 2. Ive just reorganize the compromissos primordiais, not dailyes, em medals. So, bronze, prata e ouro, second to the hardness level. Now, the ouro medal. 3. Ive just won. Trote e galope, right? The three of ones: 🥇, 🥈, 🥉. Luv this. Aiforabaut put the medals in the beginning with the title as a register or mark that that day was accomplished. From now on, iuno? 4. Let's do it and see how it goes. 5. To ensinar a viver? Amin, well, I have to live under the Spheres, right? But I have to understand The Two Wheels first, to prevent dolor. To understand dolor. Then The Three Medals mark the compromisso para equilibrar. Difere. →
Tumblr media
→ Sure. 9. Good night, folks! I seeuromorrow.
VI. A Pouca Nuvem Que Dissipa — 19 ago 2022, sexta.
1. I deu vontade de comprar chocolate, iuno? At CS, aruno. 2. Okay, I lost the vontade. But its good iuno? Some bar enall. Its blogging. Right? Enfin. No more. Não vou caminhar hoje. I have three medals to conquer and earn. Starting já. Im um pouco cansado... But I must to conquer and vencer. I wosh to make a bujo, like I just have one, but with spreads enall. Iuno? I just made some kind of blogging right here. But with no spreads. I could make. But there is the art enall. Here this is not are. But what spreads will be useful? 3. Theres a wish for being a blogueiro iuno? So good. This perfect and happy and colorful life of blogging. Just good and beauty things... Just. 4. Maybe I could do some spreads in here. Digital and deixar incompletes, por fazer. Like in the paper. Aqui eu posso ir ajeitando. No bujo não há essa opção. Se erra e se cobre ou se deixa. Enfin. What to do? 5. Posso traçar linhas para texto e espaços para innerventions. E daí preencher de qualquer forma. O importante é to fill. 6. But I really wantto have a bujo... →
Tumblr media
Tipo, Terry Secret!. But Terry is a book. I digit books on the computer [O problema é que estou sem compolo. Se eu passar no concurso, comprarei e continuarei. Se não, só restará o telefone. Mas há outras prioridades. mAI, por exemplo.]. Not in the fone. What more I need to write? Aroknow. But what I have to study? English? Aruno if I need to register something. I put in here. That sounds great. 7. A more more trabalho. E uma paleta, of course. 9. Well, I mei completed the conquers and mei earned the medals. This means that o segundo quarto ficará para domingo. As toalhas também, pois não secarão. Então essas medalhas serão adiadas até domingo. Talvez a máscara seque ainda hoje. Se sim, ganharei a de bronze. Se não, foi um dia sem medalhas. →
Tumblr media
→ 10. Okay, what I'm gonna do now? Cellular needs some charge. And I can't read. What I'm gonna watch so? Maybe a DVD. Not journals and all. Not movies. Aruno. A movie maybe? 11. Okay, I just one two medals today: silver and bronze. I don't get gold because it não deu para fazer tudo, but domingo dará mais do que certo. 12. Aronou if I will keep saying my seed movies, because it's inutile in here. I have another uses to them. So I quit of posting movies like I did with Meninas Malvadas. Talvez eu exclua... Ou deixe. Mas não creio que farei de novo. Não há razão para tal. Talvez eu ponha my wishings. Veremos. Enfin. Tenho que ler primeiro. 13. Mudando o assunto, sábados contemplam medalhas? Se há compromissos, evidente que sim. Mas são outros compromissos. Quais? Compras? Ears? Passeio? Lazer? Desígnio? Leitura? I need ir. Well. Quanto a Desígnio, são vídeos longos e sapienciais. Não. Logo, sobram as revistas. Essas são as conquers de amanhã. Kisses, my loves! Nighty night!
VII. Gecko, ou Lê-se Caril — 20 ago 2022, sábado.
1. I'm so enthusiasmated for today, iuno? It's my first Saturday after The Three Medals, iuno? I'm exploding!!! Calm down... Ogah. I wish to watch vários desenhos, but I have to analyse first. And then, read articles. Arono. I think this is this for now. 2. Ogay, the day has started at exactly 1h25. Right? Let's do our stuff and earn some medals. Compras ficam para mais tarde. And Revistas. Let's ler. 3. [Tached.]. 4. It's getting awesome to make a bujo in here. Dibujo. Rs. Desenho em Spanish. Right. Well, estudar é uma coisa. Ler é outra. I woria ler. The grammar. I'm so sad. I rod so pouco... 9 pp.. :/. →
Tumblr media
→ Anoter #nofilter, the sky. 6. The cellphone needs to be charged, o que elimina as revistas. Mas dá para ler um pouco. Algumas páginas. Mas nada mais será feito. Enquanto ele carrega, o que vou fazer? Arono. 7. Okay, I just have readden ISTOÉ, and I'm really full. Satisfeito de reading. :). It occured very very well. Now, charge a bit. And see some journals iuno? Medal conquered. 8. Now the medals for tomorrow. 2C 🥇; Roupas 🥈; Tapetes 🥉. That is it.

Summer Missions Update!
Hey Friends and Family! Two weeks down, one week for preparation of this summer and one week with missions teams. It has been a great time so far.
The first week we got to visit some work sites and prepare the church to receive our missions teams for this summer. I was absolutely blown away by the scenery in New Mexico and Arizona. I can't count the number of times I've said, "You just don't see this in Ohio!" I got to check driving on a dirt road off of my bucket list and seeing the Monument Valley park in Utah. I did get a cold that I've been battling off and on so please pray for my health!
This week, Tse ee gai House of Joy Church on Black Mesa in Tonalea, AZ (the church I am staying at this summer), has been hosting a Tent Revival all week long! Some of the service is in Navajo and some in English. I had the privilege of trying frye bread (to die for!), mutton, and sheep liver & intestines this week. I've enjoyed all of the local dishes I have tried. I've slowly gotten used to the outdoor showers, outhouses, and lack of running water -- I'm definitely gaining muscle this summer from hauling 5 gallon water buckets back and forth! The missions teams this week were amazing, all of them returners who encouraged my team and I with kind words, snacks, hugs, and life advice. Overall, It's been an amazing two weeks out on the reservation. I am captured by God's heart in this place, in these people, in the missions teams serving, in my own teams sacrificial love for each other, and in my heart. Be praying for the Dine (Navajo) people, the coming missions teams, my team, and for God to empower me to be a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to Him this summer and for life.

C. L. Peck Contractor (Photo taken by me on May 11, 2022)
C. L. Peck Contractor was started by Clair L. Peck Sr. in 1915 or 1918 in Los Angeles, CA. He was born in Michigan City, Indiana on May 5, 1881, the son of a lumberman. He went to Purdue University and, while there, competed in track and basketball at the same time as finishing his four-year engineering degree in three years. The firm "became known for erecting office buildings, classical church structures, warehouses and corporate headquarters" (LA Times). The Los Angeles Business Journal said the firm "specialized in creating fireproof buildings." "He was considered an expert in reinforced concrete almost from the beginning of its use in construction and was noted for his craftsmanship" (NY Times). His full name is Clair Leverett Peck. He was born in 1881 and died in 1971. He was married to Viola Curtis Peck. The LA Times described him as "the contractor who literally built much of Southern California, from the Capitol Records Building to the Bonaventure Hotel... to the Crystal Cathedral and the Orange County Performing Arts Center." The company constructed more than 1,200 buildings in Los Angeles, including 40 buildings along Wilshire Boulevard. Some other buildings include: the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, "the Forum in Inglewood, high-rises in Century City and most of the chapels and other buildings at the Forest Lawn parks." According to The New York Times, "Saks Fifth Avenue had Mr. Peck build its first Los Angeles area store, in Beverly Hills, with no written contract." He died April 23, 1971 at the age of 89 at Good Samaritan Hospital and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA.

Peck was the Peck of Leonardt & Peck! I think my Leonardt post might be the longest ever, but this one is pretty close! His bookkeeper was named Meda Green and she lived on Hartford Avenue (Westlake). Weirdly in the same 1927 city directory, Peck is president of C L inc at 354 S Spring (Downtown) and vice president of another General Contractors firm of unclear name (with A S Bent as president, whom I've written about before) at 257 S Spring room 430. Finally, in the same directory, Beverly Hills Realty Board is in the "C L Peck bldg" in Beverly Hills (???!).
He had two sons, who both worked in his company: Edwin and Clair Leverett Peck, Jnr., who was born on November 18, 1920. Jnr went to Los Angeles High School. He was married to Emily Lutz and then Margo Ryan (according to a contributor to Find A Grave, he had another wife named Linda Hussey and three step-children through her). He had three children from his first marriage to Emily Lutz of Brentwood (assuming the Los Angeles neighborhood): Clair L. "Peter" Peck III, Nancy Peck Birdwell, and Suzanne Peck. He also had a sister named Sally Peck Carson and seven grandchildren. He had an engineering degree from Stanford and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II before joining his father's company in 1945. He expanded the business's work "erecting major department stores for Nieman Marcus, Robinsons-May, Broadway and Bullock's, the Sherman Oaks Galleria, Fashion Island in Newport Beach and much of the original South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. He worked with some luminary architects as "John Portman on the Bonaventure Hotel, Philip Johnson on the Crystal Cathedral, Charles Luckman on the Forum, I.M. Pei on the Creative Artists Agency in Beverly Hills, and Bill Pereira on the Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Building in Newport Beach."

The Byron Jackson plant in Santa Ana, CA was designed by John Kewell & Associates and constructed by C. L. Peck (see source below).

In this photo, Melba Rardin and L. A. Claypool survey the excavation for an addition to St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, CA in 1961. C. L. Peck was the contractor for the creation of "a new six-story-and-basement wing for the hospital" for $5.5M USD which was planned to add 256 patient beds and other facilities. Claypool was the "clerk of works" for Peck.
Tumblr media
In 1976, Peck was "elected to the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and, as chairman of its building committee, oversaw construction of the bank's new building at 101 Market St." The firm also built the Hibernia Bank building in San Francisco. He also served on the boards of the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, Investment Company of America, Farmers Insurance, Northrop Corporation, Los Angeles Children's Hospital, and Metropolitan YMCA. Additionally, he had been president of San Francisco's Bohemian Club, Los Angeles's California Club, and the Los Angeles Country Club. "In 1985 he was the recipient of the Y.M.C.A. Dr. Martin Luther King Human Dignity Award."
As of 1981, C. L. Peck Construction Inc. was located at 626 Wilshire Blvd., Ste. 925 in downtown Los Angeles, CA. They had a General Building Contractor license from the California Contractors State License Board from February 27, 1981 through February 28, 1997. Weirdly they were exempt from Workers Compensation Insurance? Victor Herbert Siegel was the Responsible Managing Officer, John Lee Willis was CEO/President until September 26, 1983, Paul John Matt was the Responsible Managing Employee from May 7, 1991 until July 15, 1991, Allen Marvin Katz was RMO/CEO/President until only November 16, 1983, Louis M Stafford was RMO/CEO/President from then until April 7, 1987, and William Alan Worthington was "Officer" until February 15, 1983.

In 1986, C. L. Peck Contractor (the 53rd-largest construction company in the USA in 1986 and one of five largest contractors in California by the time of his death) and Jones Bros. Construction Corp. agreed to merge. By then they had "dominated the heavy construction business in Southern California for more than half a century." Apparently the reasoning behind their merger was the increased competition from overseas and out-of-state companies. The plan was to become Peck/Jones and have their headquarters on Wilshire Blvd. in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. C. L. Peck, Jr. would be the chairman, with Jerve M. Jones the chief executive. According to the Los Angeles Times, "the Peck and Jones families will continue to be the sole stockholders of the merged concern, which is estimated to have annual revenue of about $400 million and a work force of about 500."
He died on December 14, 1998 at 78 years old at the UCLA Medical Center from a massive stroke. He is burried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA.
According to Open Corporates, C. L. Peck Construction Inc.'s registered address was 122 S. Westgate Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90049 and there was a filing in 1999 of a Certificate of Dissolution. In January of 2021, Suzanne Peck was added as CEO and then, in July of 2022, there was a change of status from Dissolved to Terminated.
In 2005, Peck/Jones had "been forced into bankruptcy proceedings by its creditors" in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles "by one of its clients and two subcontractors who claim they are owed nearly $400,000." In another bankruptcy filing at the "U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, Redlands Community Hospital and other companies said they were also owed significant amounts of money.
It's unclear if Jones Construction Management is the current name of that firm or if the Jones Brothers' descendant, Eric Jones, is just using their legacy for the company he founded in 2008. According to him, the Jones Brothers acquired C. L. Peck Contractors rather than it being a merger (www.jonescm.com).

Coach Draz Obituary
Tumblr media
Richard Draz
November 17, 1930 - September 12, 2023
Richard “Dick” Draz, known to most people simply as “Coach,” passed away on September 12, 2023, due to natural causes. Coach Draz was born on November 17, 1930, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, to Dorothy and Frank Draz. He was a loving husband, father, motivator, and inspirational figure to his family and thousands of high school and college athletes throughout his distinguished coaching career.
Growing up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, he attended Chagrin Falls High School before enrolling at Ohio Wesleyan University. While at Ohio Wesleyan, he began a lifelong involvement with the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, Draz earned his master’s degree at Kent State University. He started teaching in the San Diego Unified School District at Pacific Beach Junior High School before joining the staff at Crawford High School in 1962.
At Crawford, Draz coached football and was the head swimming coach. After several years of success in the pool, he became intrigued with water polo. He traveled all over Southern California to watch games and attend clinics. In 1969, with an abundance of passion for the sport, he coached Crawford’s first water polo team. The rest is legendary.
Coach Draz created a swimming and water polo dynasty at Crawford High School and was a driving force in the success of aquatic sports in San Diego schools over the last 60 years. The “Ironman Relays” swimming meet, which he co-created in 1968, and the “Draz Classic” water polo tournaments (2006) are still popular aquatic events in San Diego every year.
One of the winningest Southern California aquatic coaches, his dual meet boys swim team record at Crawford was 253-38-1 (including 21 undefeated league championships), and his boys’ water polo teams were 334-106-1 (including 13 league titles). After finishing his 25-year coaching career at Crawford, he coached men’s water polo and the men’s and women’s swim teams at San Diego Mesa College for nine years.
Coach Draz received national and local recognition from multiple organizations. He was inducted into the U.S. Water Polo Hall of Fame (2003) and was the National High School Swimming Coach of the Year (1986). He was also inducted into the San Diego Officials Association (2016), the San Diego Hall of Champions (1999) as a “Coaching Legend,” and the Chagrin Falls HS, Tiger Hall of Fame (1996) to name a few.
Coach developed a love of sports at an early age. Whether playing hockey on frozen lakes or football on the gridiron, he loved learning the intricacies of the sport and competing. Over the course of his career, Coach taught, challenged, and mentored many student-athletes and coaches. When he retired from active coaching, he became a trusted advisor to many. In this role, he supported the continued development of swimming and water polo and left a long legacy of people touched by his mentoring. His coaching tree includes numerous former students and athletes who are not only motivating young people in classrooms but are instrumental in the continued success of aquatic sports in Southern California.
Coach Draz married the love of his life Helen in 1955. For 68 years, they worked together to build a loving home where they raised three children. Dick was actively involved in his church and enjoyed the many friendships developed from the St. Mark’s United Methodist and First United Methodist Church communities.
Dick’s family knew how much he loved what he did but were never in doubt about how much they meant to him. He frequently recognized the support of his family, especially Helen, for giving him space to coach. He will be greatly missed by his immediate family as well as his large extended family of athletes, coaches, and friends.
Draz was preceded in death by his brothers Peter and David, and granddaughter Rebecca. He is survived by his wife, Helen, three children, John (Cathy) Draz of Knightdale, NC, Kathy (Tom) Zopatti of Twinsburg, OH, and Dan (Patricia) Draz of Naperville, IL, grandchildren Courtney, Cody, Quinn, and Wyatt, great-grandchildren Ava and Olivia, and several loving relatives.
A memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 1 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of San Diego, 2111 Camino del Rio South, San Diego. A reception will follow at the church in Linder Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard’s name may be made to one of the following organizations or projects he was passionate about. First United Methodist Church of San Diego, 2111 Camino del Rio South, San Diego, CA 92108, CIFSDS - Draz Classic or Ironman Relays, 3470 College Avenue, San Diego, CA 92115, San Diego High School Coaching Legends Selection Committee, 3470 College Avenue, San Diego, CA 92115.

Entry 1.5.2-1 - Security System
Welcome to my blog. I’m not tagging anything but entry #, so sorry if my unrelated mess somehow ends up in your search.
I actually spent a bit longer in 1.4 before downloading the next update, so have these screenshots <3
Tumblr media
church got demo'd because of the road, kinda sad since I wanted me first ever cake to stay on the world forever, but I'll make the cake my trophy for all advancements, that'll be my new PermaCake™
I also wanted to put my wool to use and flex a little bit
(also oh my god can we talk about the iron golem holding a rose? i miss this so much)
Tumblr media
This is Baby Boy, my pokemon Go Best Buddy <3 I think he should be allowed to go ham in origin form even if Go disagrees. Eventually I want to remake it entirely out of like. obsidian and diamond blocks instead of the wool but for now I'll consider this my "wool" creation. I've added goals to construct statues of different materials of different pokemon that I love and possess/would like to possess. Added to my goals list.
Tumblr media
Okay, now that I'm actually in 1.5, let me go to the nether to get some quartz, I haven't explored any farther than the two fortresses (i think it actually could be three) next to my portal so hopefully I won't have to go far.
Also, cool. my achievements reset again. Hopefully my advancements don't do that later on.
i'm turning on peaceful because its My World and i dont want to Stress.
Tumblr media
had to use up a couple of stacks of blocks to cross a lava lake but i think i spy some newly generated chunks
I think I'll just grab a handful and head back.
Tumblr media
Every gate that can have this does (so all but the southern one, which is open to water)
Tumblr media
The maps are being weird but here's old
Tumblr media
vs new, ft this guy
Most of my development has been within and around the walls, but I will eventually do more on those two southern maps.
Tumblr media
Now that the gates are done (I didn't expect it to be difficult, this is just a redstone update) the real hard part is trying to minimize as many spawning locations as possible. It'll be like 10 updates until it takes LOW darkness to spawn hostile mobs, so I think I'll be fighting this for a while.
I'm going to limit it to a couple of layers of torches (in ground/camo'd) around the wall and farm, just far enough to keep them away from any villagers.
Tumblr media
I think I've fully illuminated the area inside and around the village (maybe I should actually name this place, maybe that's a task for next update)
Tumblr media
I've been bone mealing around the ground as well to conceal the light better.
Tumblr media
I also have this little bridge area behind my garden heading toward the desert now.
Onward to 1.6!
The easiest goal will be to get one of each color block of terracotta, but I'm not going to a mesa biome for it. I'll just cook clay for it and dye to get some chests set up. In 1.8 I plan on making a statue with my colors, but I'll need time (and perhaps 1.8's duplication glitch) to get enough resources.
My harder goal will be to get two donkeys and two horses. I'll be constructing a stable for them, and there will also be space for llamas, though those won't be added yet.
next (1.6.4-1)
