ALBUM_of_the_MONTH 7/23:

Open up & let me in…

Here we are… a long time in the making & a whole mouth frothing later, we finally have acres to @templeofangels’ debut album titled ‘ENDLESS PURSUIT,’ a fitting name for something we’ve so desperately craved. 

The Austin/Los Angeles-based quartet of Avery Burton (guitar/vocals), Patrick Todd (drums/vocals), Cole Tucker (guitar) & Bre Morell (vocals) have spent years been building towards this very moment, the one where their long-awaited debut LP has finally graced our ears & it’s a collection of songs that finds TEMPLE OF ANGELS sounding wholly refreshed & fully formed, as evidenced throughout this 11-track spread.

The amount of world building that TOA have cultivated throughout the years of touring & releasing of singles/EPs has finally paid off and it’s paid off in a big way as the Texans have landed on the increasingly lauded Run For Cover roster as well as finally obtaining the proper amount of media coverage (which is still below par as far as I’m concerned).

The opening/title-track is a tranquil scene setter, showcasing the bands mastery of somber vibes & dreamy layering while “Tangled in Joy” immediately bumps up the BPMs & opens the melancholically grandiose floodgates while waxing upon the delight of a bright shining light across 3+ minutes of jangled DreamPop that’s chockful of shimmered six-strings, busy low-ends & soaring vocals.

“Waving to the Wind” brings some Cure meets Velocity Girl vibes on this revved up & jangle_popped offering as “Lost in Darkness” bursts w/ passionate muscle/wailed anguish & “Love Spins Around” is a perfect piece of guitar-driven DreamPop & our first taste of Todd on lead vocals while elsewhere “When the Shadows Smile Back” is a moody duet featuring one the group’s one most beautifully arresting arrangements 

“Torment” is all muscular low-ends anchoring an angelic vocal turn while “Secret Place” explores Morell’s dream-like renderings & 

coser “(For You) I’d Lose It All” brings a Chameleons meets Psych Furs vibe across 3+ anthemic mins of post_punking & dream_poppin FirstWave.

‘Endless Pursuit’ was a long time coming, w/ a wait deemed every bit of worthy as Temple Of Angels have cemented their place amongst our modern greats.
