'Shikamaru looked at her just as she did. His eyes were bloodshot, his cheeks blotched with red patches not owed to his spots. They were wet, and his nose, flaky with dry skin, looked raw from all the times he must have rubbed it recently.[...]
[...]
“You know, crying about it doesn’t change anything.”
Shikamaru recoiled slightly, his eyes narrowing.
“You’ll still have a match in the morning if you keep doing that out here,” she continued, “and you’ll still have to play that match. Except, this way, you’ll be tired and sluggish, and your head will ache. It’s not worth it.”
He squeezed his eyes shut tightly, and Temari’s stomach flipped.
“I know it doesn’t feel like it right now, Nara, but as much as you cry, he won’t be any less dead.”
Shikamaru’s eyes crept open and up to meet hers. The boy’s bottom lip quivered. “That’s…” He exhaled sharply. “That’s a horrible thing to say.”

I find it funny that people are accusing Sarah J Maas of being a Zionist simply because she took a birthright trip and hasn’t been active on social media regarding the issue (she’s not been consistently active in years aside from book promotion). We can debate what social media platforms should be used for and who has an influential voice in this, but…..
I’m pretty sure her writing a 800+ page book about a small rebel force opposing a violent and oppressive settler-colonialist government is pretty indicative of her views, just saying 🤨
Anyways, free Palestine from the Sidra to the Narrow Sea ❤️💚

I wanted to give a quick overview of the different AUs/projects/rewrites that are going on here!
Clans of the Wild AU/Rewrite: An AU up to Po3, and then a rewrite of Omen of the Stars as well as A Vision of Shadows (renamed Clans of the Wild), which is treated as an epilogue arc.
Features: Hollystar, Hawkfrost redemption arc, and Brambleflower and Squirrelflight’s litter of 5 (Aldershade, Sparkstorm, Goldbreeze, Hawkpool, and Redcloud) changing Clan culture.
Tag: Clans of the Wild
Twin Flames Rewrite: A rewrite of the whole series with the premise that Rusty and Princess are the two kittypets that join WindClan as apprentices early on in Onestar’s Confession; Princess (Wildpaw) ends up in ThunderClan after WindClan is driven from the moors, and Rusty (Firepaw) remains in WindClan.
Features: Wildflame and Sandstar as lesbians, Firestar adopting and raising Onewhisker and Smoke’s kits (Squirrel, Leaf, and Dark), and Power of Four, where each Clan gets a prophesied cat.
Tag: Twin Flames Rewrite
Reincarnation AU: An AU in which StarClan is dedicated to keeping the river of fate running smoothly, and Tigerclaw just keeps tossing boulders into it.
Features: Squirrelflight and Leafpool are Redtail and Spottedleaf reincarnated, and Hollyleaf is reincarnated Hawkfrost.
Tag: Reincarnation AU
Tundra Colonies: An extremely self-indulgent semi-warriors-ification of the Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus.
Features: Fun politics! Magic and lesbians! Wildblaze, who is so tired and doesn’t want to be here!
Tag: Tundra Colonies
Path of the Clans: A Powered by the Apocalypse Warriors table-top roleplaying game I’m developing. Let me know if you want the handbook!
Features: A reputation system and a 2d6-based game.

you see song of silver flame like night is objectively a good book. and it's really good for a young adult/middle grade tbh. but i can't help the endless tpw comparisons like. i flip a page and omg the WHIPLASH i SWEAR i read this before... oh RIGHT something JUST LIKE THIS HAPPENS IN POPPY WAR!
this is. absolutely not intentionally aimed to hurt either author or imply anything — when you write about colonialism from a certain perspective, it's inevitable that a lot of passages will sound the same. when you write about Chinese mythology come to life, a lot of things will definitely sound the same.
AND ITS NOT A MARK AGAINST THE BOOK! it's written in beautiful, haunting prose and has a nice plot. it's just that in COMPARISON to one of my favorite series, ever, there is a definite winner.
(a big reason behind that is the different genres the books were published in)
so unfortunately while sosfln is a BRILLIANT book i had a hard time enjoying it ☹️☹️

Monument to the Combatants of the Portuguese Colonial War, Lisbon (No. 2)
Built in 1994, the Monument to Overseas Combatants is a fitting tribute. Two black-and-white pillars rise out of the clear waters of a public lake, forming an incomplete inverted triangle. An eternal flame sits under the point where the pillars would meet.
According to some interpretations, the lake symbolizes the oceans that separated many of the combatants from their homeland, while the pillars act as a metaphor for unity. The implication is that those who served came from different backgrounds and practiced different religions, but all made the same sacrifice.
Visit the memorial during the day, and you’ll see an armed guard watching over the eternal flame. The presence of armed guards leads some Americans to draw comparisons between Monumento aos Combatentes do Ultramar and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Near the memorial, you’ll also see 180 bronze plates, which are engraved with the names of soldiers who lost their lives in the Portuguese Colonial War. While tourists are allowed to take photos of the monument, plaques, and even the armed guard, be sure to treat the site with appropriate respect if you get to visit.
Monumento aos Combatentes do Ultramar has no admittance fee and is open all day. When visiting, take care to show respect for the memorial. Avoid eating or drinking on the grounds and keep conversation to a low level.
