Some researchers haveĀ suggestedĀ that infant crying is aĀ signalĀ of vigor that evolved to reduce the withdrawal of parental care. The idea is that in the ancestral environment, inert, inanimate, lifeless infants were considered by parents to be physically weak or possibly in poor health and thus unlikely to survive. In contrast, being loud and relentlessly fussy demonstrated high energy, strong lungs, and good health. This is likely why babies will often cry even when there is seemingly no immediate need, such as distress or hunger. Their unconscious, evolutionary aim is to ensure caregivers don’t neglect them or withdraw care or resources from them. [...] Infant crying also falls under the framework ofĀ "error management theory". The idea is that it is more costly to under-react to potential dangers than overreact. In this case, it is better for a baby to be oversensitive and cry even when there is nothing wrong than to be under-reactive and not cry when somethingĀ isĀ wrong. A variation of this is theĀ "smoke detector principle". A smoke detector produces a piercing, unmistakable alarm in the event of a fire. But it doesn’t actually detect fire—it detects smoke particles and activates upon the merest hint of potential danger. A false positive (e.g., alarm in response to burnt toast) is far more favorable than a false negative (failing to activate in response to flames). Thus these devices are calibrated to be annoyingly over-reactive. Babies are nature’s little smoke detectors.

Abstract: This paper comprehensively explores the measurable objects and testing quality of spectrometers, with a particular focus on the LISUN EDX-3 Portable X-ray Spectrometer. The principles underlying its operation, the wide range of materials it can analyze, and the factors influencing its testing quality are examined in detail. Experimental data and comparisons are presented to illustrate its performance and accuracy. The research provides valuable insights into the capabilities and limitations of spectrometers in modern analytical applications. 1. Introduction Spectrometers play a crucial role in various scientific and industrial fields by providing detailed information about the elemental composition and structural characteristics of materials. The LISUN EDX-3 Portable X-ray Spectrometer has emerged as a significant tool, offering unique features and capabilities. Understanding its measurable objects and testing quality is essential for optimizing its application and ensuring reliable results. Portable X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer | XRF Metal Analyzer | Alloy Gold TesterEDX 3 AL2 Ā  2. Principles of Spectrometer Operation The LISUN EDX-3 spectrometer operates based on the principle of X-ray fluorescence (XRF). When an X-ray beam is incident on a sample, it causes the atoms in the sample to emit characteristic X-rays. These emitted X-rays have energies specific to the elements present in the sample. The spectrometer detects and analyzes these X-rays to determine the elemental composition. The instrument consists of an X-ray source, a sample holder, a detector, and a signal processing unit. The X-ray source generates a beam of X-rays with a specific energy range. The sample, placed in the holder, interacts with the X-rays, and the emitted fluorescent X-rays are then detected by the detector. The detector converts the X-ray photons into electrical signals, which are amplified and processed by the signal processing unit to obtain the energy spectrum of the emitted X-rays. By comparing the measured spectrum with known spectral signatures of elements, the spectrometer can identify and quantify the elements present in the sample. 3. Measurable Objects 3.1 Metals and Alloys The EDX-3 spectrometer is highly effective in analyzing various metals and alloys. It can accurately detect and quantify elements such as iron (Fe), copper (Cu), aluminum (Al), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), and many others. In the metalworking industry, it is used to verify the composition of alloys during production, ensuring quality control. For example, in the manufacturing of stainless steel, it can precisely measure the content of chromium and nickel, which are crucial for determining the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the steel. 3.2 Geological Samples In the field of geology, the spectrometer can analyze minerals and rocks. It can identify elements like silicon (Si), oxygen (O), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K), which are common in geological materials. This helps in mineral exploration, where the elemental composition of rocks can provide valuable information about potential ore deposits. For instance, the detection of high concentrations of certain metals in a rock sample can indicate the presence of a valuable mineral deposit. 3.3 Environmental Samples It can also be applied to environmental samples such as soil and water. In soil analysis, it can detect heavy metals like lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg), which are of concern due to their potential toxicity. In water quality monitoring, it can analyze for elements that may affect the water’s chemical properties and suitability for various uses. For example, the measurement of dissolved metals in water can help assess its quality for drinking or industrial applications. 3.4 Plastics and Polymers The spectrometer can identify additives and fillers in plastics and polymers. Elements like titanium (Ti) in titanium dioxide fillers or bromine (Br) in flame retardants can be detected. This is important in the plastics industry for quality control and to ensure compliance with regulations regarding the use of certain additives. 4. Testing Quality Factors 4.1 Detection Limit The detection limit of the EDX-3 spectrometer is an important aspect of its testing quality. It can reach ppm (parts per million) levels for many elements. This means that it can detect even trace amounts of elements in a sample. For example, in the analysis of semiconductor materials, where impurities at very low concentrations can affect the device’s performance, the spectrometer’s low detection limit is crucial for ensuring the quality of the material. 4.2 Accuracy and Precision Accuracy refers to how close the measured values are to the true values, while precision relates to the reproducibility of the measurements. The EDX-3 spectrometer exhibits high accuracy and precision. In repeated measurements of a standard alloy sample, the relative standard deviation (RSD) is typically less than 5%. This indicates that the measurements are both accurate and reproducible, providing reliable data for quality control and research applications. 4.3 Measurement Time The spectrometer’s ability to provide quick results is another factor contributing to its testing quality. It can identify alloy grades in 5 seconds and measure the content of major elements in 20 seconds. This rapid measurement time is advantageous in industrial settings where high throughput is required. For example, in a metal recycling facility, where a large number of samples need to be analyzed quickly to sort and grade different alloys, the spectrometer’s fast measurement speed improves operational efficiency. 5. Experimental Data and Analysis 5.1 Comparison with Standard Samples To evaluate the spectrometer’s performance, a series of experiments were conducted using standard samples with known elemental compositions. The spectrometer’s measured values were compared with the certified values of the standards. For example, in the analysis of a copper-nickel alloy standard, the measured concentrations of copper and nickel were within 1% of the certified values, demonstrating its high accuracy. 5.2 Repeatability Tests Repeatability tests were carried out by measuring the same sample multiple times. The results showed that the RSD for most elements was less than 3%, confirming the spectrometer’s good precision. This is important for applications where consistent and reliable measurements are essential, such as in the production of high-quality alloys or in research experiments where small changes in elemental composition need to be detected. Measurable Objects Elements Detected Application Examples Metals and Alloys Fe, Cu, Al, Ni, Cr, etc. Quality control in metalworking, alloy identification Geological Samples Si, O, Ca, Mg, K, etc. Mineral exploration, rock analysis Environmental Samples Pb, Cd, Hg, etc. (in soil); dissolved metals (in water) Environmental monitoring, soil and water quality assessment Plastics and Polymers Ti (in fillers), Br (in flame retardants), etc. Quality control in plastics industry 6. Conclusion The LISUN EDX-3 Portable X-ray Spectrometer offers a wide range of applications due to its ability to measure various objects and its high testing quality. Its low detection limit, high accuracy and precision, and rapid measurement time make it a valuable tool in industries such as metallurgy, geology, environmental science, and plastics manufacturing. However, like any analytical instrument, it has its limitations and requires proper calibration and maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Future research could focus on further improving its sensitivity and expanding its application to more complex materials and samples. Overall, the spectrometer continues to play a significant role in advancing our understanding and control of the elemental composition of materials in diverse fields. Read the full article

Ā  introduction Due to the restriction of domestic petroleum energy and refining technology, the oil products produced by regular refineries in the market are in short supply, which makes a large number of blended oil products flood the market. Regular blended gasoline is mainly blended with mixed aromatic naphtha (light oil) as raw materials. However, in the background of high raw material prices and maximization of profits, aniline compounds are often used as unconventional gasoline additives. In order to make the quality index of gasoline with such additives meet the national automobile gasoline standard, for example, adding 1% (mass fraction) N-methylaniline can increase the octane number by 2-4 units . However, aniline additives have potential hazards to the mobility and safety of vehicles, and N-methylanilines are nitrogen-containing compounds, which will lead to an increase in the content of nitrogen oxides in automobile exhaust, causing harmful effects on atmospheric environment and human health. The main components of aniline additives include aniline, N-methylaniline, o-methylaniline, p-methylaniline, m-methylaniline and N, n-dimethylaniline. Currently, the commonly reported methods for the detection of methylaniline compounds include naphthalene diethylamine spectrophotometry, gas chromatography-nitrogen chemiluminescence detection, high performance liquid chromatography, etc. . The traditional naphthalene diethylamine spectrophotometry interferes with the determination result due to the occurrence of side reaction, and the HPLC method is inevitably affected by the interference of gasoline matrix. Ā  The gas chromatograph-nitrogen chemiluminescence detection method requires the preparation of an expensive nitrogen chemiluminescence detector that can selectively detect nitrogen. The recently drafted (yet to be published) national standard "Gas Chromatography for the Determination of Oxycompounds and aniline Compounds in Gasoline" also describes a method of analysis using Deans switch on two opposite polarity columns using the common and relatively inexpensive hydrogen ion flame detector. For this method, ThermoFisher Scientific has published an Application paper (Application Notes C GC-50). As a simplification, this paper introduces a faster single column method based on the local standard DB37/T-2650 issued by Shandong Province in 2015 . The results show that this method is simple to operate, with good repeatability and high accuracy. At the same time, the method was optimized to solve the problem of interference of aniline quantification by gasoline matrix composition. 2. Overview of the principle of the method On a polar polyethylene glycol (PEG) column, aniline compounds in automotive gasoline were separated from the gasoline matrix, and acetophenone was used as the internal standard. The contents of aniline, N-methylaniline, o-methylaniline, p-methylaniline, m-toluidine and N, n-dimethylaniline in automotive gasoline were determined by gas chromatograph equipped with flame ionization detector (FID), and the concentration of each component was calculated by reference to internal standard. Understanding Fire: The Element of Destruction
Fire, a primal force that has shaped human history, is both a servant and a formidable adversary. While it has been harnessed for warmth, cooking, and various industrial processes, its unbridled form can wreak havoc, consuming everything in its path. The fire triangle, comprising fuel, oxygen, and heat, serves as the foundation for understanding how fires ignite and propagate. It is within this context that fire safety measures become essential.
The Three Pillars of Fire Safety
Prevention: Building a Fortress Against Flamesa Risk Assessment: The first step in fire prevention is conducting a thorough risk assessment. Identify potential fire hazards within a space, considering elements such as faulty wiring, flammable materials, or inadequate storage practices.b.
Electrical Safety: A significant percentage of fires are caused by electrical issues. Ensure that wiring is up to code, avoid overloading circuits, and promptly address any malfunctions or damaged electrical components.c.
Flammable Materials Management: Proper storage of flammable materials is paramount. Keep combustible materials away from heat sources, and implement secure storage practices to mitigate the risk of fire spread.d.
Fire-Resistant Building Materials: Incorporating fire-resistant building materials can add an extra layer of protection. This includes fire-rated doors, walls, and ceilings that can withstand the onslaught of flames, providing valuable time for evacuation.e.
Smoking Safety: Smoking-related fires are preventable through designated smoking areas, proper disposal of cigarette butts, and strict adherence to no-smoking policies in high-risk environments.
Preparedness: Equipping for the Unforeseen
Fire Safety Training: Education is a cornerstone of preparedness. Conduct regular fire safety training for occupants, employees, and residents. This includes familiarizing them with evacuation routes, proper usage of fire extinguishers, and emergency protocols.
Emergency Response Plans: Develop comprehensive emergency response plans that outline evacuation procedures, assembly points, and communication strategies. Regularly practice these plans through fire drills to ensure swift and efficient responses during real emergencies.
Fire Safety Equipment: Install and maintain fire safety equipment, including smoke detectors, fire alarms, and fire extinguishers. Regularly test alarms and ensure that extinguishers are in working order, with visible and accessible locations.
First Aid Training: First aid training is essential for dealing with injuries that may occur during a fire or evacuation. Designate individuals with first aid skills and ensure that first aid kits are readily available.e.
Communication Systems: Establish robust communication systems to relay emergency information quickly and efficiently. This includes intercoms, emergency broadcast systems, and communication channels for emergency responders.
Response:
Calm Amidst Chaosa. Evacuation Protocols: During a fire, a structured and orderly evacuation is paramount. Clearly mark evacuation routes, provide visible exit signs, and ensure that occupants are familiar with primary and alternative escape paths.b.
Emergency Services Coordination: Coordinate with local emergency services to enhance response times. Provide them with access to building plans, utility shut-off locations, and other pertinent information to facilitate their efforts.c.
Accountability: Establish accountability measures to track the evacuation of occupants. This ensures that everyone has evacuated safely and allows for the prompt identification of anyone who may be missing.d.
Emergency Contacts: Maintain up-to-date emergency contact lists for all occupants and employees. This includes contact information for emergency services, management personnel, and designated emergency coordinators.e.
Post-Emergency Procedures: Following a fire incident, implement post-emergency procedures, including damage assessments, communication with affected parties, and plans for the restoration of normal operations.
Technological Advances in Fire Safety
The realm of fire safety has witnessed significant technological advancements, enhancing our ability to prevent, detect, and respond to fires effectively.
Automated Fire Detection Systems:
Modern fire detection systems utilize advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to swiftly identify potential fire incidents. These systems can trigger alarms, initiate emergency protocols, and even communicate directly with emergency services.
Smart Fire Extinguishers:
Smart fire extinguishers are equipped with sensors and connectivity features. They can detect changes in temperature and air quality, providing real-time data to occupants and emergency responders.
Fire-Resistant Materials and Coatings:
Ongoing research has led to the development of innovative fire-resistant materials and coatings. These materials can be applied to existing structures to enhance their fire resistance, offering an additional layer of protection.
Fire Safety Apps:
Mobile applications have been developed to provide real-time information during emergencies. These apps can include evacuation maps, emergency contacts, and communication tools to enhance coordination during a fire incident.
Drones for Fire Surveillance:
Drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras are utilized for fire surveillance. They can provide valuable insights to firefighters, helping them assess the extent of a fire and identify areas that require immediate attention.
The Human Element: Promoting a Culture of Fire Safety
Beyond the technological advancements and structural precautions, fostering a culture of fire safety within communities, organizations, and households is crucial.
Education and Awareness:
Continuous education and awareness campaigns are instrumental in instilling a sense of responsibility among individuals. Workshops, seminars, and training sessions can empower people to make informed decisions during fire emergencies.
Personal Responsibility:
Every individual plays a role in fire safety. Encouraging personal responsibility, including proper disposal of smoking materials, adherence to safety guidelines, and awareness of fire risks, contributes to a safer environment.
Community Engagement:
Engaging with the community fosters a collaborative approach to fire safety. This can involve participating in local fire safety initiatives, supporting community training programs, and sharing resources to enhance overall preparedness.
Conclusion:
Fire safety is a collective responsibility that extends beyond individual actions to encompass the broader community and organizational efforts. By embracing the pillars of prevention, preparedness, and response, we fortify our defenses against the unpredictable nature of fires.
As technology continues to evolve and our understanding of fire dynamics deepens, the landscape of fire safety will undoubtedly witness further advancements. However

FFXIV Write Entry #29: Stormsong
Prompt: paternal | Master Post | On AO3
Well, this did not go where I thought it would, and certainly isn’t crack. But I think I like it?
Anyway, SPOILERS for The Sorrow of Werlyt through the quest ā€œSleep Now in Sapphireā€ as well as the Omega Raid story line.
--
A late summer storm had roared up the coast, driving the residents of Terncliff inside their homes and the Ironworks engineers and Resistance soldiers down into the magitek facility. Most were in their commandeered bunks—at least those not on patrol throughout the town—while waiting for the storm to pass, but for the engineers at least, there was still work to be done in the warmachina bay.
For a given definition of work.
Valdeaulin rolled his eyes as Cid Garlond and Synnove Greywolfe’s shouting echoed down the hangar. He couldn’t fathom the reason why Greywolfe was here, for all that she had taken it deeply personally that she hadn’t been involved in the G-Warrior’s development; something to do with the warmachina’s systems, perhaps, or the recovered pieces of the Sapphire Weapon, currently in one of the secondary bays. He could follow her ranting about aetheric principles to a degree, but the similarities between thaumaturgy and arcanima rapidly ran dry when the arcanist also dabbled heavily in engineering.
From his spot close to the exit out towards the bay, at least, the pounding rain and crash of thunder mostly drowned out the engineers’ row (Greywolfe was standing atop the G-Warrior’s shoulder, yelling down at Garlond as they both shook their fists and waved wrenches at one another for emphasis, the other Ironworks employees not reacting to them at all). If he closed his eyes, he could imagine for a moment that rain was falling on the stone roof of his home rather than sheet metal, that the cool wind blew in from the dark depths of the Twelveswood, that the voices he heard were those of his wife and daughter. But then something would crash in the hangar, and he would be drawn back to reality.
With an annoyed sigh, Valdeaulin opened his eyes and resumed his work on a map of the region surrounding Terncliff and heading towards Werlyt. He didn’t have to do it, but there was precious little else for him to do with the weather so foul and the hunt for Gaius’ wayward foster children and their Weapons project temporarily halted. And it would make the lives of the Resistance patrols easier, at least.
He was making notations on one copy about the local patterns of aether for any Resistance mages—eerily dead, but with the occasional strange spot he could sense of high activity that might be a natural golem, or a pocket of minor elementals—when he heard footsteps trotting towards his position. His ears twitched and he looked up, eyebrows going up despite his attempt to remain stoic.
His time with the Order of the Twin Adders had been relatively short—perhaps two years, if that—but Rereha Reha had been notorious well before she and her sisters-in-arms had stumbled into bearing the mantles of Warriors of Light. Valdeaulin hadn’t served in her unit, but he had seen the fallout of some of her ā€œshenanigans,ā€ both good and ill, and his commanding officer had spoken of her with fond exasperation. Like him, she was an outsider to the Twelveswood, but for some unfathomable reason, she had been permitted beneath its boughs by the Elementals to live and learn in Gridania.
She hadn’t changed much, appearance wise anyway, since that time he had last seen her before Operation Archon: devious, almost smarmy grin, pink hear dyed with streaks of white, skin astonishingly blemish free despite a career outdoors that he had once overheard a Gridanian noblewoman hiss over in a fit of jealousy and left him struggling to disguise his laughter as a cough. She still favored sky blue for anything that wasn’t a uniform, going by her leather coat, but her usual matching stockman hat with its jaunty feather was suspiciously missing.
And…was that a hatchling dragon in her arms?
When the lalafell came to a stop before him, he grudgingly said, ā€œLieutenant Reha.ā€
ā€œOoooh, that’s Captain Reha now, Sergeant,ā€ Rereha said, just shy of cackling.
Valdeaulin nearly dropped his pen. ā€œDear good gods, why do they keep promoting you?ā€ he said in disbelief.
ā€œMostly to make me someone else’s problem,ā€ she chirped, easily hopping up onto a stack of crates next to him. The dragonet in her arms croaked reproachfully as it was jostled, but she merely patted it on the head and continued, ā€œI think the plan is to get me high enough that it forces Grand Marshal Brookstone to retire already. I am also, apparently, quite good at getting the job done even if it means someone goes prematurely grey from shock, mortification, or both.ā€
ā€œThat sounds like a quote,ā€ he said.
Rereha held a finger up to her lips in a ā€˜shush’ gesture, smirking, and waggled her eyebrows.
Valdeaulin shook his head and, to use one of Severa’s favorite phrases, decided to bite the bullet, gesturing to the dragonet. ā€œAnd who’s your friend there?ā€
If he hadn’t once been the father of a precocious daughter (one who would be about the same age as this hedonist bard had she lived), he likely wouldn’t have noticed the very brief widening of Rereha’s eyes in the classic children’s expression of oh shite. But he did, and he kept his face studiously blank of anything except polite interest while the lalafell smiled bright and wide—too wide, just a hair—and said, ā€œOh, this little guy?ā€
She held the dragonet, a yalm long from nose to tail by his guess, up for inspection. He had black eyes, apparently all pupil, or perhaps his irises were true black, as well. His head was head was wedge-shaped, with fan-shaped protrusions on either side of his head of similar shape to his wings. The closer look showed that his scales were tiny; from a distance he had almost appeared smooth-skined. He was dark green, shading to a paler shade on his belly, and the undersides of his wings and ear fins, plus his extremities, were pink.
The dragonet was, quite frankly, adorable, despite the unsettlingly powerful glare. Something about his aether niggled at him, though; he could have sworn he had encountered it before, but that couldn’t be possible…
ā€œI had heard you and the other Warriors of Light had brought peace between the Ishgardians and the Dravanians,ā€ Valdeaulin drawled, ā€œbut I didn’t expect it had extended to babysitting.ā€
ā€œDragonets do what they want,ā€ Rereha said with a sniff. ā€œHe usually stays in Anyx Trine, but occasionally he comes wandering to find us and beg for bacon jerky.ā€
The dragonet perked up at that word and he craned his neck and head back to chirp at Rereha imperiously.
She sighed. ā€œYeah, yeah, I got the goods.ā€ She set the dragonet in her lap and slung her pack off her shoulder.
As Rereha rummaged around in her bag, Valdeaulin said mildly, ā€œDoes he have a name?ā€
ā€œHm? Oh! Yeah,ā€ she said, popping her head up and triumphantly holding a wrapped packet. The dragonet began hopping impatiently, wings flaring, and Rereha shoved him out of the way, but he merely took that as an invitation to hop onto her head, lean over, and croak angrily in her face. She poked his nose and said to Valdeaulin, ā€œHe’s, ah, Deeh Sohm.ā€
His parental bullshite detector, as his Trisselle had called it, noticed the ever-so-slight hesitation, but as before, Valdeaulin didn’t comment on it. As hilarious as it would be to make Rereha Reha squirm, he assumed whatever it was that was causing her to react like someone with their hand in the biscuit jar, it some sort of Warrior of Light business.
Instead, he merely nodded, and went back to notating the map. Rereha, meanwhile, hurriedly unwrapped the waxed paper to reveal a pile of jerky and began breaking off pieces. For every piece she passed up to the impatient ā€œDeeh Sohm,ā€ she popped one into her own mouth, apparently as ravenous as her small companion. The jerky vanished completely into their stomachs in no time at all, and both dragonet and lalafell belched in satisfaction. A lick of blue flame accompanied the dragonet’s.
Valdeaulin did not comment, though he did briefly wonder if Lisie would have stayed as shamelessly irreverent had she grown up. The thought only hurt a little, this time.
Apparently now that snack time was over, it was time to sleep the food off: Rereha yawned once, laid down with her head pillowed on her back, and promptly passed out, in the manner of many soldiers and adventurers who learned to sleep whenever and wherever they could, with an inelegant snore. The dragonet, briefly dislodged from his perch atop her head, instead stomped down to her stomach, kneading it like a cat before he curled into a ball, wings tucked close.
Valdeaulin shifted just a bit on his own seat, shuffling back to make himself a better windbreak for the occasional stormy gust that howled into the hanger.
Suddenly, the dragonet’s aether signature…changed.
Valdeaulin very, very slowly raised his head, eyes wide. Before, the dragonet’s aether had felt dim, the faintest hum of a repeating tune of power, fitting for a creature that looked so young.
Now, though.
Now, it was a chorus of complex harmonies, of rhythms and tone and melodies that somehow blended into a coherent whole. It was heavy with the weight of antiquity, nearly crushing with how narrowly it was focused upon himself.
The dragonet stared at him, and now he would swear that fathomless, midnight gaze saw through him, right to the very heart of his being, weighing and judging and knowing. A loud, grumbling hmmmmmmm, almost two-toned with reverb, echoed in his mind.
Rereha snorted, though she didn’t wake entirely, and she patted the dragonet on the head. ā€œGo t’ sleep, Dad,ā€ she slurred.
Slowly, the ancient awareness folded itself away, bit by bit, until the dragonsong was muted once more to that simple cascade of notes of earlier. The dragonet blinked at him, yawned, and tucked his head under his wing to nap.
Valdeaulin stared at the pair for long moments, before resolutely returning to his work.
He did not want to know.

Smoke Alarms
Tumblr media
Alarms and carbon monoxide identifiers are among the most significant machines you can have in your home. They are lifelines - and simple, low upkeep, and economical lifelines at that. A huge number of homes experience fires every year; more than 3,000 individuals are murdered and 15,000 harmed. Carbon monoxide, the Silent Killer, is answerable for 1,500 passings every year and 10,000 wounds. You and your family don't need to be among these insights, and forestalling this is as simple as bouncing on the web or setting off to the tool shop. Kidde makes the absolute best and most solid smoke and CO indicators available. This guide will investigate the best Kidde smoke cautions and carbon monoxide indicators so you can inhale easy.Choosing a Smoke Alarm - Choosing a smoke alert is one of the most significant choices you can make for your home. There are a couple of things to consider before you buy your locator, however.Ā
You have to ensure that the model you pick is UL tried and evaluated. The Underwriter's Laboratory creates principles; a UL rating guarantees you that the alert has passed security guidelines and will have the option to shield you from fire or smoke. On the off chance that you can't discover the UL rating, proceed onward. You need this to realize that it is ok for your family. Kidde smoke alerts are UL tried and meet their necessities. You will likewise need to look over a battery-controlled or a designed smoke caution. Those that sudden spike in demand for batteries are more affordable and they are viable. You should make sure to change the batteries - unfathomably, fire identifiers are delivered pointless in 20 percent of homes in light of old or inappropriately introduced batteries. A simple method to make sure to transform them is to simply do a switch at whatever point you change your tickers for Daylight Savings Time.Ā
A 9V battery two times every year is more than worth the time, exertion, and insignificant cost. Designed smoke cautions are more dependable, if simply because they are designed into your electric framework. In the event that the power goes out, it kicks over to battery capacity to guarantee you're constantly ensured. These are more costly and you will require a circuit repairman to introduce it. In case you're on a careful spending plan, there is literally nothing amiss with a battery worked smoke caution - simply ensure you test it and supplant the batteries two times per year. You should take note of the number of alarms you need. There ought to be at any rate one on each floor of your home; in the event that you have some more seasoned ones, it might be an ideal opportunity to supplant them.Ā
For the most part, smoke cautions are useful for around 10 years, at which point they lose their adequacy. In case you don't know how old your identifiers are, it is a smart thought to begin with new models. ConsumerSearch is a confided in site that surveys a great many items and gives a rundown of the best to assist customers with settling on educated choices. They chose a Kidde smoke alert as among the best in the business. How about we investigate it and check whether it's appropriate for your home. ConsumerSearch calls the Kidde Basic 0914 the Best Budget Smoke Detector. This is an ionization smoke caution, which implies that it utilizes an ionization chamber and ionization radiation to identify smoke. You will see these a great deal since they are the most affordable to fabricate.
Ā The other kind, photoelectric, is more powerful at distinguishing gradually seething flames, which is the reason specialists suggest having the two sorts in your home. The Kidde Basic is an extraordinary decision for a more affordable ionization caution. It is anything but difficult to introduce, modest, and viable in recognizing quick flames. You can discover this for $7; at this low value, you can purchase a few for your home. It has a 3-year guarantee and is UL recorded. Another great decision is the Kidde 21007385, which is a double sensor identifier. This implies it utilizes both ionization and photoelectronic recognition techniques to guarantee that your house is as sheltered as could be expected under the circumstances. The 21007385 is designed into your electrical framework and has a 9V reinforcement for continuous assurance. As significant as an alarm may be, a CO indicator can be considerably more critical for your security and that of your family.Ā
You can't see carbon monoxide, taste it, contact it, or smell it. This is the reason it's alluded to as the Silent Killer. It is generally perilous to you around evening time while the house is quit for the day you're dozing. You ought to have one indicator on each floor and unquestionably around each dozing territory. The Best Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detectors - ConsumerSearch again perceived Kidde as making the best carbon monoxide indicators: the best essential CO identifier, best CO locator with computerized read-out, best module with battery reinforcement, and best smoke/carbon monoxide blend finder with voice alert. How about we investigate the Kidde KN-COPP-B Front Load Battery-Operated Carbon MonoxideĀ
Alarm with Digital Display. This carbon monoxide finder shows the CO level it is detecting, has an enormous, illuminated presentation (which is incredible for perusing around evening time), top level memory shows most elevated carbon monoxide level since the last reset, front burden battery so you don't need to eliminate the unit to supplant the battery, and UL posting. Commentators note the simplicity of arrangement and use as one of its primary focal points. ConsumerSearch refers to the pinnacle level memory, divider establishment, advanced presentation, and battery power as its qualities, while taking note of that you do need to make sure to change the batteries. You can discover the KN-COPP-B for $25. Despite the fact that the wellbeing and security of your family is important, you'll be content with the quality and costs of these incredible, lifesaving apparatuses.

Fundamentals of Fire Safety and Prevention
Fire safety is a critical aspect of everyday life, ensuring the protection of individuals, property, and the environment. Understanding the fundamentals of fire safety and prevention can significantly reduce risks and save lives. This blog post covers essential fire safety principles and prevention strategies to keep you and your surroundings safe.
Understanding Fire and Its Causes
Fire occurs when heat, fuel, and oxygen combine in the right conditions—a principle known as the fire triangle. Removing any one of these elements can prevent or extinguish a fire. Common causes of fires include:
Electrical malfunctions
Unattended cooking
Heating equipment issues
Flammable materials stored improperly
Smoking and open flames
Fire Prevention Strategies
Preventing fires starts with awareness and proper safety measures. Here are key strategies to minimize fire hazards:
Install Smoke Alarms – Place smoke detectors on every level of your home or workplace and test them regularly.
Practice Safe Cooking Habits – Never leave cooking unattended and keep flammable items away from stoves.
Proper Electrical Safety – Avoid overloading outlets and use only certified electrical equipment.
Safe Storage of Flammable Materials – Keep chemicals, gasoline, and other flammable substances in well-ventilated areas away from heat sources.
Regular Maintenance of Heating Systems – Ensure furnaces, fireplaces, and space heaters are inspected and cleaned regularly.
Responsible Smoking Practices – Never smoke indoors or dispose of cigarette butts improperly.
Create a Fire Escape Plan – Establish clear escape routes and practice fire drills with family members or coworkers.
Fire Emergency Response
Even with preventive measures, fires can still occur. Knowing how to respond effectively can make a significant difference:
Use a Fire Extinguisher – Learn how to operate a fire extinguisher (PASS method: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep).
Stay Low and Evacuate – Smoke rises, so staying low can help you avoid inhaling harmful fumes.
Stop, Drop, and Roll – If your clothes catch fire, this technique can help extinguish the flames.
Call Emergency Services – Dial emergency numbers immediately when a fire occurs.
Conclusion
Fire safety and prevention are crucial for ensuring personal and property protection. By understanding fire hazards, implementing preventive strategies, and preparing for emergencies, you can create a safer environment for yourself and those around you. Stay alert, stay informed, and prioritize fire safety in your daily life.

Random Idea: ā€œPortiaā€ Spider-Man AU
I haven’t actually seen Into The Spiderverse myself, but I have read that it has started a trend towards people coming up with their own Spider-Man AUs. More specifically I read that there’s a lot of people lashing out against that for some reason, which I don’t get.
I also watched a walkthrough of the PS4 game, which actually motivated me to work on a completely different project.
I might as well state right now that I do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of Spider-Man in particular, or the Marvel multiverse in general, much less the exponentially greater possibilities that come from a huge fan base. To the best of my limited knowledge, I don’t think I’m treading on anyone’s toes, and if it turns out somebody had the same ideas before me and reads this, I promise I’m not trying to steal your thunder.
The Origin: Pyotr ā€œPeterā€ Parker is second generation Russian-American living in the Big Apple. He’s a scientific prodigy, and he was well on his way to getting a scholarship that would launch him to dizzying academic and technical heights when his life was demolished; his mother, father, and uncle were all killed in some sort of crossfire between different mob families. His academic performance and social life were also casualties, first from grief, and later from the impotent rage burning inside him from seeing nothing at all happen to find and punish those who had done so much harm. The kid who was on a fast track to following in the footsteps of such scientific visionaries as Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Oswald Octavius did the bare minimum of work needed to keep his teachers and Aunt May (his only living relative) off of his back; the rest of his days and much of his nights were spent in an angry haze of revenge-based daydreams and fantasies.
The Transformation: Peter does not remember exactly how, but one morning he woke up with a painfully swollen spider bite. After a day or so, the swelling went away, but it was replaced by other ā€œsymptomsā€ that were decidedly more permanent. In no particular order, he could stick to various surfaces, detect motion nearby, and found that his strength and agility were dramatically increased. Most dramatic of all, he could jump much, much farther than any human being had any business jumping. To an angsty, hormonal teenager who had fumed and raged inwardly as he watched the injustice perpetrated on his family go unpunished for years, it was like Christmas morning. (It was actually Arbor Day, but that’s not really important.) With barely enough sense to get gloves, a ski mask, and goggles to hide his identity, he set out to to do by himself what the police and the courts could not, or would not, do through proper channels.
The Defeat: Superpowers or not, a teenager is not a match for multiple, competing organized crime families. Peter was shot four times, twice in the left leg, once in the right shoulder, and one glancing blow to the skull that would have punched his clock if not for his Spider-Sense based reflexes. With a concussion, a leg that couldn’t support his weight, and a whole lot of lost blood, Peter was forced to back off to some place safe, call 911, and nearly collapse right after tossing his ā€œcostumeā€ in the closest dumpster. Emergency surgery and a blood transfusion saved his life, and while his recovery was almost miraculously fast according to the doctors and nurses keeping an eye on him, he still had to convalesce.
The Lesson: The time spent in bed, with nothing to do but mull over his defeat, forces him to reconsider what he is doing and why. He was about ready to throw all his dreams of revenge out the window and move on with his life... when the assassins showed up. After all, gunshot wounds are reported to police, and not every officer who swears to uphold the law actually keeps that oath. The assassins try to smother Peter while he pretends to be asleep; for their trouble, they get kicked with the same amount of force that previously launched Peter across streets and up the sides of buildings. Fortunately for them, they are in a hospital already. With a paranoia that has nothing to do with his new danger-detector in his head, Pete leaves the hospital without being officially discharged, makes it home, and discovers that his Aunt May ended up taking out two home invaders... and instead of the invaders being carted off, Aunt May is the one being held on trumped up charges. Peter has the consequences of his actions thrust into his face, and he angsts over his irresponsibility for all of five minutes before he has an epiphany that few Spider-themed superheroes ever figure out: Not everything bad that happens is automatically his fault.
The Comeback: While only a few days older, Peter is now much wiser, and begins a methodical plan of attack. The forces arrayed against his family cover the city like a web, but he’s learned a lot about spiders recently. Between phone calls, letters, and Duck Duck Go, Peter maps out the people he has to fight. These include a hanging judge, an attorney general living beyond her apparent means, and a couple of cops who have some black marks on other people’s social media, if not their professional records. With a new, thematically different costume, some cheap smartphones, and gadgets put together from dollar store specials and dumpster diving, Peter starts collecting evidence of corruption and leaving flash drives and SD cards in the mailboxes of the people who seem to be trustworthy. The gears of justice start to grind, while the gears of corruption have sand thrown into them. (What actually happened is that Peter found the AG was in the mob’s pocket, kidnapped her, called her ā€œhandlersā€ and played back some carefully edited sound bites recorded from a rival family’s conversations. Her ā€œexecutionā€ was interrupted, but her home and worldly possessions went up in flames at the same time. She suddenly has much larger problems than she did before.)
The Arch Enemy: Aunt May’s two counts of justified self defense are properly rendered as such by a court that does not have multiple actors in somebody’s pocket. Turns out a whole lot of internal affairs investigations have opened up, and a laundry list of cold cases have been opened, in addition to the conflicts already set in motion. What keeps May and Peter safe, though, is what happens to a mover and shaker way up in the food chain (known as ā€œHammerheadā€ to his subordinates because of his shark-like ferocity). Hammerhead gets a mysterious visit from a masked figure who kicks his ass three ways from Sunday, and who lets him know that he’s taking his time to make him suffer for killing the masked figure’s brother. Three bullets are put into Hammerhead with his own sidearm, but the bullet that would have gone in the man’s skull misses, apparently because his guys finally showed up to help him. Hammerhead falls for the ruse hook, line, sinker and compressed air tank, and all the resources dedicated to finding this spider-themed vigilante get aimed in different directions, including the ones that had been sent after this Pyotr Parker kid, since he’s an only child. (The guys sent after Parker don’t have much to say, because his kicks packed a wallop and also because nobody contradicts Hammerhead when he’s angry.) This lays the foundation of a mutual hatred that lasts for the next decade at least, and ā€œThe Hammerhead versus The Spider Manā€ becomes a popular topic of discussion and speculation in the criminal underworld, law enforcement, civilian social media, and the hero community.
The Method: Unlike many Spider-Men, Peter isn’t explicitly an out and out hero. The last time he had ambitions of heroism, rushing in like Iron Man or Thor or Daredevil, he ended up in the hospital. To the contrary, by imitating the methods of his criminal prey, he achieved results far beyond his most optimistic predictions. In that sense, his spider-motif resembles that of the Portia Jumping Spider, a genus of spider species that hunt and prey on other spiders. His powers reflect this, with his impressive jumping abilities. Also like the Portia spiders, Peter stalks his prey and studies their strengths and weaknesses before developing the perfect way to take them down. Sometimes this comes from capturing sensitive information and delivering it to those who can do the most damage with it. Sometimes this means a more immediate response, like a kick that can ruin somebody’s whole day plus the rest of the week. What really sets Peter apart, though, is the ā€œcriminalā€ empire that he is growing using the resources he steals from his targets. Granted, his ā€œDrug Labsā€ are churning out generic insulin at affordable prices, but it’s the principle of the thing. Likewise, the sex workers and street walkers in Spider-Man’s ā€œterritoryā€ have seen a massive drop in violence once he cornered a particularly belligerent john in an alley and mentioned that a lot of male spiders have their sex organ bitten off by the female.
The Gadgets: Unlike most, if not all, Spider-Men in the multiverse, Peter never came up with the idea of web-shooters or web fluid. He has a number of other tricks up his sleeve, sometimes literally, that fill the vacuum when it comes to mobility, combat, and controlling the combat environment. The most complex of these would have to be his costume, which also diverges dramatically from what other Spider Themed Heroes use, in that it is designed to blend in rather than stand out. The basic suit color scheme is a grey-green mixture that’s hard to see under low-light conditions, and Peter has a number of optional ā€œurban ghillie suitsā€ that can look like grey concrete, brick, rusted steel, or other patterns. He’s also been known to take his enemy’s clothing, but it’s not clear how much of this is intended to help him infiltrate them and turn them on each other and how much of it is just humiliating his defeated foes. His mask incorporates multiple vision enhancement devices, from light amplification to infra-red to sonar and radar, and these give him a multi-eyed appearance in keeping with the spider theme. Defensively and offensively, he has arm-mounted weapons that incorporate compressed air guns that can fire chemical darts at range, and provide a close-range electrical charge to incapacitate people in close combat. (In the early days he carried a literal dart gun and stun gun but kept losing them during fights.) Finally, he carries a small arsenal of counter-intelligence tools designed to let him eavesdrop on targets, clone their cell phones, break into secure areas without leaving signs of forced entry, and jam or intercept enemy communications. All of them are incorporated into his suit. He has ambitions of getting an Octavius Harness, since extra arms would complete the spider motif and also make him far more dangerous in combat, but he can’t afford it and he’s years away from learning how to jailbreak the safety features that Doctor Octavius put on his technology to keep it from being stolen.
The Cover: When he’s not making life interesting for the criminal underworld of New York City, Peter works as a photographer. He’s done contract work for the Daily Bugle, including the occasional shot of this Spider Man character, but most of his income is from people needing photographs of their belongings for insurance reasons. After all, this is a world where superheroes and supervillains go toe-to-toe at least twice a week. He’s done weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, graduations, family reunions, anniversaries, baby gender reveal parties, and more. He’s also done some stuff that would normally be within the purview of a private investigator, despite the legal risks, in order to make ends meet. His social circle is limited to a handful of people who still tolerated him when he was lashing out at the world as a teenager, which is basically a handful of former classmates that have moved on to college, trade school, or something else, especially Miles Morales (who also lost family at a young age), Felicia Hardy, and Eddie Brock. His dating life is non-existant despite multiple attempts by both Eddie and Miles to play matchmaker.
The Rogue’s Gallery: The Spider Man has a long standing antagonism with Hammerhead, but has occasionally faced off against other supervillains and even some superheroes. On the villain side, Peter has defeated an electricity controlling lunatic named Electro, some guy in a rocket assisted flight suit the press called the Vulture, the enigmatic and theatrical Mysterio, and some one or something called the Sand Man. Unfortunately, Peter beat the Sand Man by fusing him into glass, and was not able to pull off the same stunt twice. The former Sand Man, calling himself Vitreous, had to be stopped by the Avengers, and The Spider Man’s role in the creation of a much more dangerous villain is what got him on the radar of so many heroes in the first place. For the most part, he knows he’s outclassed and doesn’t really want to fight people who, in theory, have the same general goals, so he tends to run from these encounters. So far he’s managed to evade Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Oswald Octavius in his superhero alter ego of Doctor Octopus. His encounter with Loki resulted in Peter getting the upper hand in classic trickster legend style, earning the God of Mischief’s respect. In other cases, Peter has not been so lucky; while he managed to escape each time, he’s been almost crushed to death by Giant Man, beaten to a pulp by Captain America, and drop kicked into the East River by the Hulk as if he was some sort of football. He has technically never fought Dr. Strange, but was involved in a fracas between the Sorcerer Supreme, Deadpool, and Dr. Doom that resulted in the Eye of Agomotto being lost for five years; everyone involved has agreed to never speak of what happened again. Finally, there’s the matter of Sean Gargan, an aspiring superhero with Scorpion themed powers who has sworn to bring The Spider Man to justice after his father, Mac Gargan, was injured while The Spider Man was fighting Electro.

Skam NL episodes 4 and 5 reaction
This is incredibly late but there was no way I was not going to write about Engel’s detour into waxing hell.
Episode 4
Clip 1 - Piesiepoepselaar
Isa and Kes are lying together in the morning and it’s very serene. He’s had the same nightmare as Jonas did in the original, though I think the context is different … russ is like a thing that Jonas objects to on principle, would Kes be against just taking a city trip?
He’s like, ā€œYou took off your shirt and made out with everyone, boys and girls.ā€ Lmao, I don’t think Isa is going to get that wild in Tallinn.
Isa replies that she’ll only take off her shirt for Kes. So this isn’t really a hint of an actual problem or any condescension on his part, they’ve re-purposed this exchange into some purely flirty interaction.
This cute moment is interrupted by Isa’s mom unexpectedly popping in. She calls her daughter ā€œpissing pooperā€? Hands down the best/worst nickname I have heard a parent call their child. And of course Kes loves it.
Clip 2 - Orgy preparation
Isa gets a call from ā€œPapā€ soooo her dad is still kind of in the picture?
Engel bounds up to Isa, she looks very happy to see her. And when Janna and Imaan come up, she also looks happy to see them. Engel is so cute.
Except LMAO, GOD. She addresses Imaan with ā€œSalaam-Alaikum,ā€ and seems a little proud of herself, as if she Googled ā€œhow to speak Muslimā€ over the weekend. So I guess instead of being an outright exclusionary racist, she’s going to be like … a well-intentioned white ally who goes too far and ends up othering her Muslim friend by not treating her the same as the non-Muslims? That’s a pretty interesting take. It certainly puts Engel in a better light than Vilde, since she is trying to be inclusive rather than rejecting Imaan, but it also explores Imaan’s struggle with having to deal with people treating her differently than her peers, or changing their behavior toward her since she’s a Muslim.
Imaan is just like ā€œ.... Hi.ā€ I feel like at some point she’s going be like, ā€œLook, you can just treat me like you’d treat anyone else.ā€
Janna starts coughing, and at first I thought she was trying to salvage the awkward moment, but she’s actually gesturing for Engel to look over yonder because GUESS WHAT, a certain dude is climbing the stairs.
Dutch William has a very long coat and seems more like an artsy edgy hipster kid, maybe, than a regular king-of-the-school fuckboy. His head is down so we don’t get a full view of his face, it’s like he’s ~mysterious and gives no fucks.
That blond dude from the party, Gijs, is part of Dutch William’s (Noah’s) crew, of course, and nods in recognition to Isa. They’re like, HOLY SHIT, Isa, what happened there?
Apparently one of them (Gijs or Noah) the wildest parties, with orgies. And not some weak-ass orgies where people sit in the hot tub together. Full-on power orgies with naked bodies. Janna sure knows her orgy classifications.
Engel’s facial expressions when Janna mentions orgies, lmao. This little frown.
The girls are like,Ā ā€œThere’s a party this Friday,ā€ and Isa’s like ā€œ...OK?ā€ Imaan has to explain that Janna and Engel want Isa to flirt with the guy so they can get in to the party. She takes Isa’s phone and does her thing. Well, that’s interesting because Imaan doesn’t seem so invested personally in going to the party? I mean, there’s no real benefit to their city trip. Is she doing it because Janna and Engel want to? Like she wants to be in with these girls and have friends?
Janna is amused and laughs at Imaan’s liking all of Gijs’ pics. Engel just seems stunned. A Muslim did that???? Maybe she had Imaan all wrong. Maybe she needs to consult Google again.
Clip 3 - BUY YOUR OWN GODDAMN FRIES
Isa, Kes, and Lucas go out for food. Isa is the only one to order fries, and when she asks if they want fries, they’re like nahhhh. IMMEDIATELY my bullshit detector went off. They’re going to steal her fucking fries, aren’t they?
At one point the wordĀ ā€œEVENā€ is visible through the window, heh.
Lucas has injured his left hand, which I am assuming is a thing the actor did IRL and they had to explain it into the story. Kes roasts Lucas about his injury (which happened while skateboarding) and Lucas is like, ā€œAt least I take risks.ā€ Yeah, some of those risks will apparently involve fucking up your friends’ relationship?
Kes asks Isa if they’re going to hang out at her place, I am assuming just the two of them, while Lucas gives Kes a long look. Actually, those are some high-quality Looks that Lucas has been serving to Kes. Make sure this show gets to season 3, okay? So he can put his pining face to good use.
Kes says the whole thing about Isa’s mom not knowing about him, and that Isa is ashamed of him, and Lucas is like, well, she’s right!
But of course Gijs is now sending her messages about Isa’s IG stalking. Just as Kes is offering to cook for her and her mom. Isa, let him cook for you! That’s more proactive than any Jonas has offered yet, right?
Gijs is turned on by Isa stalking him. You know, I’ve never just how many kinks the P-Chrises have, like he’s into nerds, being stalked, pretending to be the Eva’s dad/mom/whatever ... he’s just up for anything.
Lucas mentions that Isa has too many new friends, maybe even a new boyfriend, and THAT is some snake-ass shit, planting that seed out there. Even if he’s just talking shit and kidding. He doesn’t know he’ll be kinda right, but man, will Kes remember that when shit hits the fan? Kes seemed so indifferent though, like he’s all ā€œlady friendsā€ and not taking it seriously.Ā
I WAS FUCKING RIGHT, THEY STEAL HER GODDAMN FRIES. Taking advantage of her distraction while messaging Gijs.Ā
This is the realest shit though, like nothing Jonas and Isak said about Eva’s involvement in russ compared to this disrespect.Ā Teenage boys are the WORST.
But yeah, there’s not nearly as much putting down of Isa’s friends or activities (since who is gonna be like ā€œit’s so CAPITALISTIC that you want to take a fun trip to a cityā€?) apart from some passive-aggressiveness about Kes not meeting Isa’s mom and Isa being too popular. Still, it feels less mean, and Isa didn’t seem as attacked.Ā
Clip 4 - The most important conversation I’ve ever heard
The title of this clip was ā€œfull bush babyā€ and I was like … is that really going to refer to what I think it is? Like either we are talking about a small primate, or someone’s private hedge maze.
I love Janna looking like a hot mess in every scene. Like she literally rolled out of her bed, which is an ostrich nest, and went to school. She’s telling a story about opening a beer in class while Engel looks bothered about something in the background.
OH MY GOD, Engel looks troubled not because of any angsty Noah pining or Imaan drama or any of what you’d expect, but because she shaved her pubic hair and it itches. WE STAN.
…. Is this taking the place of the birth control conversation??? Instead of Engel asking about birth control, she wants the girls to tell her how they remove their pubic hair?Ā
I am not remotely surprised that Janna is a full bush baby.
Imaan saying she dyes hers red, white, and blue = MY LOVE.
Engel takes that completely seriously judging by her confused little face. Engel’s life is 90% confusion.
Janna says if she waxes, she can wax a lightning bolt. Please be a Harry Potter reference. (You know, I’m sure wizards have hair removal spells and all, but I’m imagining someone being like ACCIO PUBES and ripping out everything at once.)
Engel is nervous about waxing. Oh my God, instead of the nurse, are they going to go for a bikini wax together?????
Isa gets a text. Turns out they’re going to the party! Engel gets excited and starts throwing out outfit possibilities.S he rambles a bit and then Imaan does the ā€œshhh, you talk too muchā€ moment.Ā
Now it feels a little out of place, because Engel, while not behaving perfectly, has been way less of an ass to Imaan? And I get that this is for Engel’s own preservation, sort of, but they’re not trying to gain social capital at the level that Vilde and Sana were. The OG girl squad wanted to attract cool people to their bus and hook up with popular boys; NL girl squad isn’t concerned with getting cool people on their trip, and while they want to go to parties, they don’t have this firm objective of hooking up with the popular dudes. So the moment seemed a bit out of nowhere. I mean, Engel rambling about her outfits is tedious, but harmless.
Imaan has some gorgeous lashes, by the way.
Clip 5 - This is a very serious show
Oh my God, they DID go for a bikini wax. So is the state of Engel’s pubic hair going to be a plot point? Does she want it to look groomed for him?Ā
Okay, I’m laughing that Norwegian-style bush is a heart (ALT ER LOVE), French pubes are a mustache, and Dutch hedges are … flames? A flower? A flower for the ladygarden.
THE GRAVE IMPORTANCE OF THIS SCENE. The music and the cherub mural really add to the atmosphere.
Janna talks about an ass wax because of course she does.
I love that you hear a scream from the other room. Perfect.
I laughed out loud that Engel just shakes her head and runs. And that Imaan puts her arms around the girls and eggs them on.
I like Skam to have a plot and all but I would thoroughly enjoy 10 episodes of just random calamities in pubic hair removal.
Clip 6 - Orgy time
OH DAMN, I LOVE
This is my favorite episode 4 (or equivalent) power walk other than the original. I LOVE it. The song choice! The girls look like they’re having a blast. Engel jumping on Liv’s back!!! Imaan yelling in sync with the rooster crying!!!Ā
ESPECIALLY with the juxtaposition of this badass power walk, the girls getting hyped and feeling cool on the way to the party - because yeahhhh!!!! Young and free, bitches!!!!! - with the pause where they’re actually standing in front of the door, debating over who has to ring the bell. That’s utterly beautiful, I love it. Expectations vs. reality right there.Ā
Liv being like ā€œIts open,ā€ lol.
Engel knows Olivia and company, I don’t think they said how?? Because we knew how Vilde knew Ingrid. But I mean, they go to school together, soooo. (Or did Engel get kicked off a city trip group?)
Janna, you promised an orgy, and this is a bunch of teenagers drinking and dancing in a basement. The clothes are most definitely on.
I was spoiled for Janna’s making out with a girl, but I still got hella excited when she and this girl were sticking out their tongues at each other.
Lmao, is Engel rambling about her car malfunctions to Noah? Maybe Imaan was right to shush her.
Also, Engel’s dad is in the picture. Or was, at a certain point.
Okay I don’t know if maybe this is fashionable for Dutch kids, but I love that Noah is wearing this baggy old man shirt.Ā
And that his kiss with Engel is a little awkward.
Who is this kid. Why is he like this.
Lmao, Liv telling Isa to talk to Gijs about Tallinn so he’ll leave. Does not bode well for their city trip if that’s what she thinks?
WHOOPS, Isa forgot that dinner with Kes was supposed to happen.
Gijs does not know Tallinn is a city, so he’s like, ā€œWho’s Tallinn?ā€ lmao.
JANNA AND THAT GIRL GOING TO TOWN, YESSSSSSSS
So in terms of Skam remake wlw content, I believe we have:
Skam France: Alexia is bi. Of course I appreciate this but they haven’t really spotlighted it outside of like one or two comments, and they don’t really integrate her sexuality into the story or into the dialogue even when it would be relevant (which is a big problem with Skam France as a whole). It’s canon by the actress’ Word of God.
Druck: Mia is bi. In canon she ā€œdoesn’t like labelsā€ and is shown to make out with Hanna, though that was for telling off Alexander. Bi by word of God.
Skam Austin: Shay takes Isak’s place in the story, having a crush on Megan which is her character’s motivation. This is the biggest wlw content, clearly, since Shay will hopefully get her own season. The character is a lesbian and her sexuality plays a role in the story, plus I’m pretty sure the actress is a lesbian herself (and is a black lesbian so we have intersectional diversity).
Skam NL: Janna makes out with a girl at a party. HOPEFULLY she isn’t straight and this isn’t just a drunken makeout because girls kissing at a party is hot. I hooooope.
Hmmm, you know what? I actually buy Imaan’s throwing water at Olivia a lot more, because Engel has at least tried to be nice to Imaan. Like I understand that Sana is fiercely loyal and once she’s on your team, she’s with you 110%, so once she’s with the girl squad, she’s ride or die. But assuming Imaan was throwing water at Olivia because Olivia called Engel a slut, I get why. Engel has been awkward and othered Imaan but she’s tried to be nice. (But for Engel, you know she’s going to be like WTF?)
I love this closing song as they run away into the night!
Is it wrong that I kind of like Noah so far? Because I get that he’s likely going to come with all of William’s bullshit, but ... he’s fucking weird, man.Ā
Episode 5
Clip 1 - Making a family party awkward
Kes’ sister is a cutie!
Oh, I love that we got a little glimpse of his family? His mom, and his grandparents.
This really changes the tone of this scene from the original, because Eva goes over and encounters Jonas when he’s just hanging out with his friends and being passive-aggressive, and it felt like having the boys there made Jonas ramp up his attitude. Kes appears to be relaxed, he’s having a good time with his family. I wonder if these are the actor’s real relatives? The boys look like they could be his brothers.
But Kes does get in a passive-aggressive comment about her friends, and he’s been ignoring her for a few days.
Also, Lucas isn’t part of this moment where they’re ganging up on Isa, when the Isak is typically snickering at what’s happening.
We cut inside where relatives are having a pleasant time while the Youths fight. We don’t hear their argument but I mean, we know what they’re talking about.
Kes is like, ā€œI forgot about the dinner,ā€ as if he’s not upset, which makes Isa storm out, and his family notices that she’s upset.
Isa is out on the street and she once again puts in her earbuds and listens to music to get out her feelings. I like that as a stress release/coping tactic/whatever you want to call it for her.
This is a Sigrid song, by the way! ā€œStrangers,ā€ a totally appropriate song for relationship dysfunction and dismantling the perfect movie romance. Really interesting with Isa’s somewhat romanticized view of love - sometimes you just know, that’s how it’s supposed to be, etc.
Is Kes going to run out after her?
Nope, he doesn’t run after her. Not like in the movies. Isa just does a walk down the street. She’s not happy but it seems like listening to music steadies her a bit and gives her an outlet for her emotions so that she’s not a total mess.
Clip 2 - Engel does not know how the pill works, sigh
The title of this clip was Het is Zover and there was a still of Liv so I was like … are we finally headed down this f/f romcom route? Het is Over? (I know, I know, it has an actual meaning in Dutch.) But it ended up referring to something heterosexual, lmao.
I like Isa’s little toucan key chain.
Isa is not in a good mood, Liv looks fondly at her girl and asks about Kes. Liv knows what’s up with 17-year-old boys.
Engel pops up and says it’s time for her and Noah to go to the bone zone. Isa is like, that was fast. So I guess they are going down this sex storyline; the wax was a fun bonus.
Engel being likeĀ ā€œI know It’s Time because I DMed with Noah all weekend and he’s perfectā€ - God help us.
Engel asks for the pill like she’s asking for ibuprofen, and when she says eh, it’ll be nothing then, Liv is like nuh uh, you’re going to the doctor. Thank you, Liv.
Engel gets them to agree to go by offering a bottle of wine each. When Isa tells Liv that she (Liv) doesn’t even drink, Liv is like, two for you, right? WHOOOOOOA. True love right there.
I had the worst thought and wondered if Engel’s failure to get her pubes waxed is going to lead to Noah making a shit comment about them later, like when Engel confronts him. Because teenage boys think girls should be completely hairless, like porn stars or babies!Ā
Clip 3 - Isa can’t sleep
Isa is watching a video on her phone when she gets a notification about something her dad posted. It’s a little kid getting a swimming certificate, so I’m guessing that’s her dad’s new family.
Isa gets up to go sit on her mom’s bed. She asks for a foot rub, which her mom gives her, until her mom starts asking about Olivia and Tess. Then the feet come back up to Isa’s chest.
Her mom’s like, I’m just trying to show interest. Isa is probably thinking that’s more than her dad does. She extends a leg again.
Perhaps that’s why Isa opens up to her and tells her she has a boyfriend. When she tells her mom his name is Kes, her mom doesn’t comment on it being Olivia’s boyfriend’s name or anything, so maybe she didn’t know Kes and Olivia dated?Ā
Isa asks her mom whether she thought she and her dad would be together forever, and then when she change her mind. Isa’s mom says that sometimes things go differently from how you expected. I really like this scene. It goes in with Isa ā€œjust knowingā€ that you’re meant to be with someone, as mentioned in episode 2, and then this reality that crashes in on you. It’s awesome that they tied in these elements of Isa’s absent father and divorced/separated parents, Isa’s relationship with her mom who’s locked out of certain elements in her life, and Isa’s relationship with Kes to the overall idea of being with someone forever. I think Isa questioning the nature and longevity of love could end up being a really satisfying part of her arc. I can’t wait to see the final clip of the season; I hope they modify her speech to Kes so that it fits with all these moments and what she’s learned.
She gets back into bed and apologizes to Kes for being a bitch sometimes, because obviously she doesn’t want their relationship to end, and then stares at the ceiling with that one damn glow in the dark shooting star.
Clip 4 - Doctor visit
The girls go to the doctor with Engel. Liv and Imaan entertain themselves by playing with a model of a torso. Kes and Isa make up via text, he says he loves her even when she’s angry.
I love that Engel looks small in that big chair against the giant window, truly mimicking how overwhelmed she must be feeling.
Where’s Janna? I have to say that I look forward to her reactions on anything vagina-related.Ā
I guess she had to miss the fun because she had to make up for being late to German, but it’s really cool how Imaan volunteered to join them considering I think the Sanas usually sit this excursion out.
The doctor comes out and IT’S A MAN THIS TIME??? Oh fuck!
I mean I know plenty of women don’t have a problem with a male OB-GYN, but for a girl who’s perhaps afraid to get a bikini wax, I think she would be a little shy about talking about birth control with a dude.
This doc is handsome, not gonna lie. I can’t imagine if that would make it more or less awkward. I do think that it’s less awkward with your friends, so good call, Engel.
The doc is asking Engel some basic questions and Engel answers more confidently than I expected, so good for her. Imaan rats out Engel by saying she’s only known the guy for a week. Well, maybe it’s not the wisest choice, Imaan, but that means Engel should definitely be on birth control!
Liv also shares that Noah sleeps with the whole school, and the doc mentions that the pill only helps with pregnancy, not STDs. Bless him. I mean he’s just doing his job, but bless. This is a good message to include on the show.
OH MY GOD when that doc brought out the dildo for the condom demonstration. He was completely matter-of-fact and professional but geeeeez I would have found this to be the most embarrassing thing at 16.
Clip 5 - CONDOMS, ENGEL, CONDOMS CONDOMS CONDOMS
The girls evaluate condom choices. Strawberry, banana, glow-in-the-dark. Don’t get the banana ones. I love real bananas but artificial banana flavor on anything is a gamble.Ā
I can’t tell, who said that king-sized wasn’t for Noah? Janna? I want to give her an award.
This clip was so short but I loved it! Just sweet and funny, wonderful girl squad dynamic, adorable.
As an aside, please watch the first 30 seconds of this scene and imagine it with Engel as Rose, Janna as Blanche, and Imaan as Dorothy.
Clip 6 - Engel’s softcore fashion fantasy
Janna has the right idea by blowing up a condom into an elephant trunk.
Janna doesn’t remember anything from her first time. That bit never stops being alarming, tbh.
Janna is also adamant that Noah needs to do his best and make sure Engel has an orgasm. Good job, Janna! That’s something I’ve always wondered with the Williams of the show: do they actually try to make the experience pleasurable for the Vildes? Because Vilde is like, ā€œIt was great!ā€ but she’s also speaking from inexperience, and she might just be overcompensating, who knows? I mean, I don’t think she would actually tell the girls if it sucked.
Engel doesn’t know what an orgasm feels like, she doesn’t know how to get wet, she doesn’t want to get horny. Look, everyone should learn at their own pace, but my professional opinion is that this poor girl should take some time on her own before sleeping with a random dude she has known for a week.Ā
Who hasn’t even arrived on time to get laid.Ā Oh God, please just blow her off completely? Don’t make us and Engel go through this again. Lesser of two evils.
Janna eats a banana. I just wanted to write that.
Liv is there to administer horny-making fantasies to Engel. Lmao, Isa had to get up off her chair and go sit on the bed next to Liv while Liv is talking dirty. I wonder why….
Ohhhh my God. This fantasy of Engel’s? WOW. It is really not ā€œallowedā€ within the Skam format but honestly, fuck it, this is too weird not to appreciate. This is some ’90s music video realness, I expected 98 Degrees to walk out. Except it mostly focuses on Engel’s attire and makeup and hair, so maybe it’s more like a perfume ad?
Lmao, Engel getting turned on by herself more than Noah really stands out when you see the visual.
Janna tells the anecdote about getting turned on by donkeys, but it was supposedly just a whole other village that had the donkey kink rather than her. Bless her.
The girls need to get out because Kes is supposed to arrive, but of course, when Isa opens the front door, it’s Noah, come for his booty call. Isa’s mom is really cute in how she’s excited to see ā€œKes.ā€
Engel is? ā€œNot my girlfriend.ā€ Noah, you dumb fuck. Why do you need to clarify that shit to someone’s mom who you’re only going to know for like two seconds?
I mean, it’s foreshadowing as to Noah’s fuckboy ways, and that Engel will get her heart broken, but duuuuude quell your ass down.
Isa is like, nah mom, those girls tripping on the stairs and babbling weren’t drunk! Lol, sure.
When Isa calls Kes, it absolutely sounds like he was at a party with the level of background chatter. You hear Olivia’s voice clearly but they’re definitely surrounded by people.
Of course Kes is not coming, and Isa’s mom overhears enough on the phone conversation to realize. She tells her that they can eat, just the two of them. I really like Isa’s mom, she’s cute.
Great sad closing song.
General Comments/Social Media
Engel stuck Liv’s own song on their Tallinn playlist and Liv’s like, time to delete that!Ā
I love Janna naming the group chat weird stuff, and everyone acknowledging that group chat names are never normal.
This remake makes my heart so warm! The girl squad is so lovely and fun. I adored the pubic hair side plot, lmao, and the twists on the doctor visit and the condom retrieval. Little moments like that with the girls have made the dynamic so entertaining.
As for the boys, I think Lucas is a fantastic Isak. Kes has his typical Jonas S1 dickhead moments, but he’s also got charm, and God help me but I am enjoying Noah’s whatever-the-fuck-ness. Like I’m aware he’s going to be a creep, but currently I like taking the piss out of him and his wardrobe and attitude.Ā
As I mentioned previously, I think they’re doing some great moments with Isa’s character arc and tying in her family issues to her relationship issues, and having her talk about love or question love in the abstract.Ā
I am not Dutch, so feel free to correct me if I missed anything.
If you got this far, thank you for reading!

Electrical Smoke Detector Diagram
Tumblr media
If you are looking to install anĀ electrical smoke detectorĀ in your home, there are a few things you should know first. One of these is whether you want to use a battery-operated alarm or a hardwired system. Another question is how much you are willing to spend on the detector.
Light scattering
There are two types of smoke detectors. One type, known as light scattering detectors, receives scattered light from smoke particles and responds to the reflected light. The other, known as ionization detectors, produces an electrical current on the order of picoamps. These two types of detectors operate on fundamentally different physical principles. However, both have certain properties in common.
Ionization type smoke detectors use a process where positive ions are bonded to smoke particles. This process has several possible arrangements. Some examples include using an infrared emitting diode as the source, or a combination of two diodes that produce light in different wavelengths.
Light scattering type detectors operate on the Tyndall Effect. This effect is named after the discoverer, William Tyndall. The detector is positioned in line with a pulsed infrared light source. A masking disk prevents light from the emitting diode from falling onto the photocell.
Particle size and density were measured to determine the response characteristics of the detector. The diameters of the particles were 0.2, 0.3, and 0.5 mm. Using di-ethyl-hexyl-sebacate particles, particle size distributions were fit to a log normal distribution.
Light obscuring
If you are looking for a smoke detector that uses light obscuring, you may find the following electrical smoke detector diagram useful. The diagram illustrates how light is obstructed from reaching the detector’s photo diodes by smoke particles. As a result, light is reduced in intensity and the alarm is activated.
Light obscuring is one of the three known smoke detection techniques. It is also one of the more accurate methods. When the smoke enters the chamber, the particles absorb alpha particles that interrupt the electric current, triggering the alarm.
Light scattering, another smoke detection technique, works based on the Tindal effect. A beam of light is emitted by the light transmitter, which is then reflected by the smoke particles back to the detector’s photo diodes. Depending on the density of the smoke, the intensity of the light is modified by the smoke particles.
Several photoelectric detectors were tested to determine their obscuration thresholds. This information was then analyzed to predict the time required for a detector to be activated. Interestingly, there were differences in obscuration thresholds for different combustibles. For instance, liquid fuels such as toluene and kerosene had higher obscuration thresholds than polymer plastic pellets.
Ionization
Ionization of smoke detectors uses a small amount of radioactive material to detect minute smoke particles in the air. This technology is also known to save lives. It has been used in many fire tests and has been proven to be effective. However, ionization smoke alarms are not always as reliable as photoelectric smoke alarms.
In order to determine which type of smoke detector is best, you need to understand the differences between these two types. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. For instance, photoelectric smoke detectors are faster to respond to smoldering fires. But they are more likely to be disabled.
Another advantage of photoelectric alarms is that they are less sensitive to false alarms. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has conducted studies to determine the effectiveness of these smoke detectors. They concluded that they can provide up to ninety-six seconds of advance warning to smoldering fires.
While ionization smoke detectors can also provide up to ninety-six-seconds of advance warning, they are not as responsive to fast-flame fires. These fires result from flammable liquids, paper, and wood.
Battery-operated alarms vs hardwired systems
If you are building a new home or renovating your current one, you will want to consider the difference between hardwired smoke detectors and battery operated ones. The choice of which type of alarm to choose depends on your budget, the space you want to install them in, and how much time you will spend maintaining your alarm.
Hardwired alarms are connected to the power supply in your home. They will sound for an indefinite period of time unless you turn them off. A battery backup is also a feature on these alarms. However, you need to replace the batteries regularly.
Battery-operated smoke detectors are cheaper to buy and install. In addition, they are portable. But these alarms will drain the battery within 24 hours. This makes them unreliable for longer than the warranty period.
Hardwired alarms are more reliable. When a fire begins, they will detect the smoke and beep. You can connect other devices in your home to trigger the alarm. These alarms are easy to install.
