Hughette's concept/reference art!
Translation notes under the cut:
The note about her master was a hard one to get the exact words for, but in general I'm pretty sure it said something about her master standing. The "before a journey" is likely a little off, though.

Each age birthed men of legends. Despite all of his own feats and trials and their tales, Z'aanta was not one to put himself amongst such rank intentionally, but he did know of someone who could be: a valiant soldier that came from a far away land who wielded a massive shield as he rode upon a gallant hawk.
【The Man From Beyond the Frostlands】
an Octopath Traveler × Triangle Strategy crossover
Flanagan/Z'aanta
Explicit Rating, Fluff
15,019 Words, 2/2 Chapters

RANDOMLY was reminded that Triangle Strategy was a thing-
Um I guess spoilers for Triangle Strategy, even though the game came out a few years ago-just in case you’ve never heard of it and want to try it out I WOULD recommend if you like strategy games! Think Fire Emblem.
Also I never do reviews so don’t really consider this a Review so much as me just. Talking about the game lol
Did I only beat two of the stories? Yeah. Did I stop because I was too intimidated to collect and level up all the characters to the max for the golden route? Also yes (let me point out that that’s not necessary to complete the golden route, that’s just how I play lol). But did I have a great time despite the game’s flaws?? Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
The characters are really interesting and there are some REALLY great designs oh my gosh!! And the story!! I really liked it hehe, the whole game revolves around MAKING choices and each choice does feel like it has consequences but it also feels meaningful! Very dark and serious most of the time actually, and I never did actually get a full happy ending, though the golden route ending was happy as far as I know haha, I just haven’t gotten it for myself.
So yeah I LOVED this game I definitely went through a Triangle Strategy phase haha…
And uh…as a fanfic writer I uh. Yeah.
It was funny because I wrote Roland x reader and…yeah Roland he’s great he’s conventionally attractive he’d be a good partner…and he had lots of angst potential.
But I also wrote fics for the side characters like Flanagan Grutte (GREAT design btw) and Corentin Jennar…two characters who have only comically sized crumbs of content, but I was OBSESSED with them.
And of course the silver foxes Benedict Pascal and Maxwell Trier…yeah very great lots of angst potential. Benedict with his attachment to Destra…Maxwell with the whole Dead Wife thing. Yes, perfect.
And uh. Yeah I KNOW it’s bad but I definitely have more than just a few pages of Gustadolph Aesfrost fanfiction…yes yes yes he’s done a number of horrible terrible things and he’d be a terrible husband and the fanfiction definitely reflected that lolol I was rereading it like…wow Pixel can you please choose a man who would treat reader properly?? No?? O-okay um…
But yeah Triangle Strategy wooo I need to complete that game-
(And uhhh if anyone’s interested in my triangle strategy fanfiction just name a character and I’ll post something~criminal how little Triangle Strategy fanfictions there are…I mean there are a FEW but-)

Played Frederica's plan to retake Glenbrook last time I played Triangle Strategy. It was interesting. I did not expect the scene with Avlora and Cordelia to take a turn for that much dramatic given that no grievous injuries happened to Cordelia during Roland's version of the plan. I was scared for a minute that Cordelia really was dead even though I knew that made no sense given that I'd recruited her!!! It makes more an interesting conclusion to their series of scenes. And more angst for Roland too XDDDD
Then when I completed chapter 15 I was assaulted by 15 (fifteen!) character stories. One of them was the recruitment of Maxwell which I'd already gotten spoiled for. The others were mostly second stories for characters I've had for a while. I got Medina's (ok), Flanagan (ok, better than the first one), Groma (good even though it could feel a bit like a cop out, it was well acted), Frederica (cute), Anna (interesting! I hadn't expected to go that way at all but it was good), Geela (I don't remember), Hughette (awww she kind of have a crush doesn't she), Erador (good), Narve (meh), Roland (interesting), Benedict (good), Corentin (amusing), Elana (didn't expect the fiance to turn up alive, good for her!), and Lionel (lol). Yeap, that's the 14 of them.
(I don't think it was a great idea to code things to delay them until that specific point because it was a bit of a hassle watching so many in sequence).
That leaves me with only character stories of recently recruited characters like Giovanna and Rudolph, (though i did get the first character story of Decimal, Quahaug and Rudolph already at some point) and of characters I'm not using much (Picoletta and Hossabara and Jens being the main ones to stand out). I also haven't gotten yet Cordelia's second character story but I'm using her one map out of two so I expect it's soon.

played some more of my second playthrough of triangle strategy.
Going through the route where you give away Roland makes me feel all the better for not picking that choice originally, since it keeps feeling like the wrong one.
Otherwise, I went with keeping allied to Aefrost at the next choice junction because there didn't seem to be many obvious benefits to an alliance with Hyzante.
Given that I'm going to "have to" (for the sake of picking different choices this time) go with being complicit in salt smuggling at the next choice (which I haven't picked just yet) that means this playthrough is being very Utility heavy (given there's a high chance this is a golden route playthrough it's especially funny).
Otherwise finally recruited Giovanna as well, and got some more first character stories for Hossabara (ouch. although i didn't think she was that old), Groma (very interesting), Flanagan (meh), Piccoletta (cute), and Medina (a little bit flat but hard hitting).
I wonder how many second character stories I'll manage to get. It's a little bit tough not using always the same characters.

I played some more Triangle Strategy over my vacations and finished the game and started a new game + lol
so there's a lot to tell and i'm not sure i have all the spoons to.
I went with Frederica's ending because it seemed more original and interesting. Roland's ending was a big NOPE (oh Roland, no ;_;) and Benedict's ending had some appeal but seemed less interesting. The scenes of decisions and the ones that preceded them were all super interesting and I really loved the storytelling here. I think I ended up liking Benedict as a character a lot more because of them. Frederica continued being brilliant. I also really liked the map vs Lyla for her subtle and nuanced characterization and Kamsel for being the most genuine of the Saintly Seven. Idore is an efficient villain though I don't like him as much (yet).
I appreciate how the ending worked, in term of showing the sacrificed needed to get to what it prioritizes.
Before the end I recruited Groma and Flanagan which upped the amount of Aefrost related character a lot (i was just complaining about how we get mostly Hyzanthe related people in my last update), which both look very cute.
I got character stories for Anna (very intriguing), Jenz (nice), Cordelia (angsty Cordelia hour), Frederica (cute). As well as the second character story for Julio (tbh i find them rather boring) and Archibald (cute!!!! and very intriguing XD)
Since I started my New Game + (and I'm up to the battle on the bridge while fleeing Glenbrook with Roland and Maxwell), I've recruited Rudolph of course, which I'm liking a lot in term of character, and Quahog (cute sad kid), and Decimal (obvious emotional manipulation is obvious). So now I've only Liberty left to spam (I was disappointed the scouting design happens so late so I couldn't see the final Conviction scores for my game without getting polluted by the new game on top of it).
I'm enjoying seeing more of Aefrost this time around, including the surprise that Sycras is actually fairly good people; and seeing Svarog's introduction under less sad circumstances (but intensifying the tragedy of it). I'm also starting to enjoy Gustadolph a lot, he's a good villain.
I'm left shipping Avlora/Cordelia a lot for obvious reasons; and also a little Roland/Serenoa/Frederica - at first because it was cute and now because it's messy as fuck.
