昨日作った図面をプリントしてみたら小さ過ぎてこれを制作するのは無理だと判断しました、、それで3Dプリンターを利用して制作したいと思います。とりあえずFlashPrintの中で位置と大きなを合わせて、明日学校に行ってプリントしてみたいと思います。

This is what the print will look like if I don’t fix the errors in the mesh. 

Here, I have just loaded the .obj file directly form Gravity Sketch VR into FlashPrint. FlashPrint is the slicing software for Flash Forge 3D printers. 

The software has automatically fixed the ‘errors’ to make it 3D printable. This fixing has reduced the mesh size of the object and the tubes that were once round and smooth are now more geometric. FlashPrint has also created some kind of surface in-between tubes, joining them together (see arrow), which has completely changed the nature of the object. 

The computer automated alterations do add an extra layer of interest to the structure, but I don’t want to start researching the rhelm of computational errors as added design interest.

trpg wip: Mekatoncheires

TRPG ideas I'm chewing over in a new wip (only a couple pages into the draft atm):

Power armor frame suits.

Track ammo, but you're not in danger of running out because your guns print their own ammo/fuel cells. You track it because you have to pay your gun's manufacturer.

Track the number of times you boost rolls or use super abilities, as the energy source you use to do that is controlled by a private utility company.

You can flashprint repaired components for your suit when out of combat, but doing so also costs money, so you heal to full between fights, but still have to track how many times you had to repair during a deployment.

If you make less money on a deployment than you spent on these things, whoopz.

When you go into arrears the creditors and utility companies sell your debt to Collectors who send increasingly lethal enemies at you based on how high your debt gets.

More success means greater prestige with the Free Companies, which means the only missions available are tougher ones that will absolutely necessitate greater costs.

By design, it's nearly impossible to stay in the black for long. Breaking even is about the best you can do, and it's largely unsustainable.

Most challenging project yet, sprockets ! These are my own design for powering a few of my SM32 motive power.

Once again, I designed these in FreeCAD, took a couple of hours to get it where I am satisfied. What baffled me, when exported as a STL file, both FlashPrint and Slic3r saw it as a cylinder with a square hole. No matter how many times I went back to FreeCAD to see why it turned out that way, nothing changed.

But when I export the design as a Wavefront 3D Object file (*.obj), it worked. Never used this format before, so the outcome really surprises me, and FlashPrint did not have any issue with it.

Final 3D model:

Here I shrank the toys to my desired size on FlashPrint. Unfortunately, my school couldn't provide me with any coloured 3D printing filament, therefore the toys remained white. However, I was confident that I could make it work by painting it instead. I painted the toy in acrylic paint, hung my planets using crystal wire, and applied a clear gloss on top. I am personally really happy with the result and have gained an understanding of what to do next to improve, I came across a few obstacles when creating this but believe it to be exactly what I envisioned.

本日、1限カラ5限迄3Dプリンタノ刑也。

8時間（8時間！？）blenderくんとFlashPrintくんとにらめっこ。君たちずっと私を離してくれなかったね。葉っぱをブッ刺す穴が小さくて入らなかったりビミョ〜に入らなかったりで都度調整也。3Dプリンタくんもずっと私にいじられておかしく��って、危うく1個作るのに20年かかるとこだった。あびね。

1限から様子見に来てくれたお仲間さんありがとう。一人だと寂しくて泣いてました。オレオありがとうございました。美味しさに感動して毎回初めて食べたかのようにリアクションしてしまいました。そういえばまた朝も昼もご飯食べるの忘れててオレオしか食べてなかったこと今思い出しました。動いてるからか、CDの時いっつも時間過ぎるの早く感じる。ﾝﾈｯ

ある程度3Dプリンタで制作していって、浮かぶ疑問点。「あれ？支柱通らないんじゃね・・・？」はい。お察ししてください。なぜ気づかなかったのか。作ったら試しましょう。はい。

本日の先生からのお言葉。

誰が何をやるのか、名前で可視化して共有

あっ。これ最近めっちゃ思ってたぁ〜（後出し）複数並行してやる作業あると、誰かやってるっしょ。って他人任せにしてしまって、そう、誰も！！何もやっていないのである！！！になってしまう。一番最悪パターンなので、何をしなければいけないかだけじゃなくて、誰が何をいつまでにやるかですね。締め切りギリじゃなくて何日か前までだと直良し。かな。

あとは企業の方もご来店。いらっしゃいませ。こちら3Dプリンタ監視班です。

これは何をやっているんですか？にすぐパッと分かりやすく答えられない私ザッッッッッコ......って悲しくなっちゃった。多分科学館でも一番来る質問だと思うし、自分達の活動を自分で言えないなんて...くそ......頭の中、整理しておきます。

その他、企業の方に質問されて答えていった中、自分で言って自分で気づいたことが、

企業の方も「うん、いいことだ」と。いろいろあっちこっちいって挫折しまくりの日々だったけど、やって失敗したからこの答えに辿り着いたし、その道を通ることに意味があったと思う。いい経験になったな。なんだかんだ楽しかったし。

私が3Dプリンタをぽちぽち動かしてる中、アクリル葉っぱカッターやら木の板ゴリゴリやら木の棒ヌリヌリやら染め液トポトポありがとうございました。助かりまんじろう。誰。

Caveat Emptor: FlashForge Creator Max 2

So, today I shipped the FlashForge Creator Max 2 back to Amazon, sent a scathing e-mail back FlashForge USA technical support, and then wrote a rather long Amazon 2-star review for the product.

FlashForge USA had last responded to me on Friday, and I sent them a response within a few hours the same day.  I didn’t hear back from them again until today (Tuesday), while Krissy and I were re-packing the printer.  They’re still obsessed with the version of FlashPrint I’m using (the latest from their web site, although apparently a new software version dropped within the last day or two -- there’s an upgrade dialog in FlashPrint at least), and my guess is there’s supposed to be a newer firmware version available but that I’m not seeing in the FlashPrint firmware update dialog.

At this point, I’m guessing it’s not my specific unit that’s defective, but the entire product is defective by design.  Certainly the removable build plate implementation is a joke and should never be copied by anyone.  Even if I managed to figure out some of these things on my own, even if I was willing to make a hardware hack (e.g., a Z-shim) to work around the non-functional Z-axis calibration, I would never recommend this printer to anyone.  At this price point, these issues shouldn’t exist.

I really wanted to like this printer.  Krissy and I both were initially very impressed by its performance, but the problems are too annoying to make it worth the price tag.
