so, sound playback. turns out ghosts don't really need anything special for playing all sorts of files (FLUX in particular is a dedicated music player ghost, and some of yall may be familiar with FLELE) aside from maybe LAVfilters installed on the computer for More sound formats besides like 3
this is mostly for myself, i like going through sound files occasionally. he also responds a bit differently depending on the length
also enjoy a dumb thing i made as a test on like my 2ds and spent several days trying to figure out how to record on my computer
you know that post thats like "if u have a bunch of unrelated OCs u dont know what to do with, make a fighting game! or a dating sim!" that type of thing? i think another good option would be to turn ur single or paired OCs into ukagaka ghosts. make them into funny little pngs that sit on ur desktop and talk to u or eachother
My pals are doing a promo hour and also would love some mutuals or something :3 Hi I'm Typhra!! I do Vocaloid/Utau/Synthesizer V/Vocal Synth stuff and am learning to art! I'm also the person who made that Spamton Shimeji, Flele, and Website (warning for flashing and sounds)
i wanna try and make a soundwave flele but creating flele skins is a lost art. i can barely find any guides at all for ukagaka let alone flele specifically. but the idea is SO good
Is there any way I can edit a .nar file I downloaded? I like the ghost, but I want to re-do the art that it uses myself.
It sounds like what you want to make is a shell!
.nar files are just .zip files but with a different extension. SSP will install the files from the.nar, and in the case of ghosts, those go into the ssp/ghost/ folder. After this, it doesn't touch the .nar file anymore, so there's no need to edit it! All the files you'd want to edit will be in that ghost's folder in ssp/ghost/. And, conveniently, they are plain .png and text files that are easily edited!
Ghosts are modular in a lot of ways, and one of those ways is the system of shells. Shells are the visual portion of the ghost, and by setting up multiple shells, you can swap between different styles, characters, or whatever the alternate shells are set up to be! This way, the look of the ghost can be changed at will without changing the way it functions.
This is how ghosts like FLELE work! FLELE uses this system to load up entirely different characters as skins for its music player. But on the other hand, some ghosts have additional shells that are the same characters but in a new style. Sometimes these are made by the author of the ghost, but sometimes they're made by folks who are fans of that ghost! It can be a sort of fanart.
Making a shell sounds like it would be ideal in your case, since you could make your own shell for the ghost, while still having the original one available to you! Especially since, if it's a ghost that's still receiving network updates, you wouldn't want your new shell files to be overwritten by the old ones in an update. So, having a separate shell for this is safer.
Go to ssp/ghost/ and then find the folder of the particular ghost you want to make a shell for. Once you're in that ghost's folder, there will be a folder called shell. This is where all the shells are kept for that ghost. In there, there will likely be a folder called master, or default shell. It may possibly have another name as well, but those are the most common.
Simply copy the master or default shell folder (or whatever it's called) to get started! Inside of that folder you'll find all the art files to replace, and you'll also find descript.txt, which is where you can enter a name for your new shell, and other information. If you need more info on setting up shells, in case you end up needing to do any shell code or set up things like new collisions, you can find information about that in this guide (the "Phase 2 - The Shell" section).
Hopefully that helps, let us know if you have any more questions!

the funny thing about actually getting to write aster is that like... even with ukagaka dialogue I still lean into a couple inspirations for each of the characters that aren't dca. maybe I'll ramble a bit about those later?
but ukagaka dialogue doesn't really reflect how aster starts out and ends up in the hypothetical story, I'd say it's a bit of a mid-point. the two bicker and/or rib on each other, but it's lighthearted and/or no harm really done. then there's aldebaran who has almost No spoken dialogue published yet
obviously I'm not gonna immediately start off writing the entire story I would like to make. I'm not much of an experienced writer and I would like to do the idea some justice. maybe I'll do more of those slice of life short stories that don't necessarily connect to the bigger plot, figure out some world building along the way
I'd say the ukagaka has been a good exercise in just setting up the character. I'm sure it's not Great, but it's certainly an introduction, and people I've shared the WIP ukagaka pack with have been saying kind words about it <:)
maybe bc ive been sick for 3 weeks but since like yesterday ive been in such a Mood. I want to do everything. I Want to site build, make gifs again, sew doll outfits again, finish art for my gf. I want to make a flele so bad
