Sand Barioths are the mounts of seasoned Lamure warriors. One has to prove their fortitude, endurance, and lethality to gain the right to bond with such a highly-respected ally, and once formed, that link will never fracture.

Lamure's vast expanses are highly unforgiving and volatile- as such, a remote tribe housed on the edge of the Sadona Barrens has long known that beasts designed for speed and agility serve far better in navigating their home.

These wyverns are regarded as companions of the utmost honour, and to see one daubed in its Rider's paint is to witness an ancient partnership that has persisted for countless generations.

↠ Sand Barioth is an extremely underrated subspecies, in my opinion. Most of MonHun's subspecies feel a little too much like reskins or are too similar to their predecessors- Green Nargacuga, Pink Rathian & Aurora Somnacanth come to mind, in particular. Sand Barioth breaks the species mold, placing the monster in the antithesis of its domain- it's a really fun, flashy and bold concept.

In terms of inspiration here, I based both lore and visuals on the ethnic Karo people of Ethiopia. Their daily practise of body-painting is really beautiful, and so strikingly captures the human experiences of creativity and self-expression.

I'm currently going through Monster Hunter brain rot right now, and I felt like redrawing this piece I did back in June 2022 to honor Lucent Nargacuga returning to Sunbreak and for a MH related art challenge I did back then.

Thought I'd return to one of my favourite styles I've worked in, that of the Hi-Fi Ridley redesign. Then again, these pieces are supposed to take a day, not a week, but that's what blender does to a mf.

The process was model design sheets x6 -> blender model -> 2d render, to get that perspective just right.

New Paravian flying wyvern ancestor design

its been quite a while since i've done some monster hunter stuff so i wanted to do something related to it and i decided to revist my parave wyvern design i made like almost 7 months ago and i really didnt like how it looked so i decided to redesign it!

it is based of @iamthekaijuking's theory on every flying/bird wyverns being descendant from a small paravian dinosaur that evolved more flexible hands to climb and burrow aswell as growing pseudo fingers for wings!

mine has 2 more pseudofingers on each hands one for the wing and one for an opposable thumb as i thought it would look neat aswell as making my creature being able to climb and dig better aswell as interacting with the environment as it was my idea i had when i first made this little fella!

A rough sketch of the Seregios subspecies I created with the help of my good friend Dawn. Just a tease of things to come, really. Sorry for the weird semi transparent Seregios in the background, neither of us know why it's there.

Named Cutthroat Seregios for its tendency to hunt other Flying Wyverns, this Seregios subspecies is nothing short of a meticulous hunter. Feeding on ore deposits to suppliment its carnivorous diet, its scales form a metallic coating that enables them to conduct electricity.

Its electric scales find usage in both combat and hunting. On the ground, it uses them to set up electric tripwires around its nest, and in the air, it uses them to snipe its target from a distance, the electricity confusing its prey's sense of direction. Additionally, the metallic shine allows it to use electric impulses to make light shift around it, making it appear almost invisible, not dissimilar to Chameleos.

I might reveal more about my Monster Hunter Project in the coming days. Playing Iceborne really got me in the mood again after Sunbreak died down a little bit.
