(mulder again i am So Normal about death note zjendj) but L is so fascinating. realistically he never should have taken the Kira case and *never* should have revealed it publically. L only takes cases hes personally interested in and I truly think he wasn't guided by wanting justice necessarily but by being *bored*. Both Light and Ryuk in the first episode have a parallel where theyre shown to be bored of their respective environments, and I honestly have to think L would be included in that as well.

I also think L is in love with Light but also hates him but is absolutely *fascinated* with him. He had to know realistically the only way this situation would end would be both of their deaths, because a) there is no way you can prove Kira exists in court (it would all be circumstantial evidence) b) light was never going to stop killing and c) after this case? what else is there for L. No other case could top japanese high schooler is given magical notebook that can kill people without leaving a trace. He knew all that and still went into the investigation lol. Gay.

SO REAAAAAAAAAAAAL. i think something death note focuses on a lot is the idea of people being So Much that they transcend the world around them. the "normal" simply isn't engaging anymore and they drift into vices like obsession. obviously light L near and mello are the most obvious examples but i think misa and probably ren are examples too where instead of obsession with intelligence justice and victory it is an obsession with power stability and love respectively that keeps them hooked into the kira debacle. (and yes i'm aware of how those sentences look next to each other lol. i'm not a huge fan of how female characters are framed in death note). after a seemingly supernatural and godly force killing off "evildoers" in droves like. where do you go from there. no "normal" serial killer will ever top that and for someone like L, whose attention is engaged solely by these kinds of puzzles, that is sobering. when the options were defeat to kira or live the long rest of his life knowing that there is no one on earth and nothing he will do to match up to kira and L's bringing him to justice (or eternal stalemate between them) would be. well. i think it is easy from that perspective to understand L's fixation on kira and how very much he was willing to put on the line to see the case through, even where he did in fact fall to kira (i hesitate to say lose, because L was aware quite early imo that his death during the case was likely, which is where mello and near come in)

something interesting in the episode i just watched was when light is in confinement pleading to be let out L says that "the kira [he] knows" wouldn't do something like that. which is so funny to me but also says so much. i'm just hitting yotsuba arc in my rewatch so it makes sense but i think it definitely demonstrates how to L he is kira first and light second. serial killer first and crack detective second. challenge to the world's conception of justice first and guy who goes to uni and such second. explains why he is so so weird

It works!  We’ve got it sitting on a glued pin as I never got why manufacturers make the world’s smallest hole to put a lanyard in, then don’t include something that can fit in there.  Earbuds are reaaaaaaaaaaaal good substitutes...

That is sarcasm.  My sensory sensitivities don’t like those damn things being in my ears.  I tried them out and took them off within seconds.  And do note there was no music playing at the time!

Anyhow, interestingly enough it sorts music not by ABC Order, but by the date/time you put it in.  So when I added my New music from today’s shopping, it got sorted right to the bottom.  Good to find new tracks...as it doesn’t let you search by artist or letter the way the old one was.  Again, I went cheap as I’ll probably replace it when I get a new car that no longer lets me jack in and requires Bluetooth.  All I really care about is being able to play on Shuffle atm.
