Another design that had eluded me for years, this one undoubtedly one of the most important out of my FR dragons: my random progen, Aruna. I've gone through multiple unposted iterations with her over the years, never quite feeling any of them, until this one struck the other day
I'm not the biggest fan of this paper, but the Derwent Coloursoft pencils never disappoint. I missed drawing. This is the first full piece I've made since I moved in September and I'm happy that it exists

Item Update: Hotel Takeout Menus
I made these a few years ago, the original image texture was very tiny (64 x 64 pixels) so it allowed little room for detail. This is right before I realized that I can make the textures larger. So here is the new file, with fixed and improved textures, all remade. I added some new ones as well. There aren't any Maxis Match swatches on these, unfortunately. But I am hoping to revisit these again and make a file with some MM Simlish.
This is just the "long" menu that has been edited

#art#traditional art#watercolour#inspired by the fact that in my studio classes recently - i and every other student who does watercolor or ink based work#always inevitable has viewers more drawn to our swatch test pages instead of our actual work LOL#i dont mind it too much i get it but it is funny so i thought yknow i have this tiny pad of watercolour paper that i dont feel like using#for normal drawings (too small) so i drew a shitty fish on each page and used it as a tester page whenever i was doing my#for-fun cartoon drawings <3 not looking at it at all just putting down the colour to check the consistency of paint#i think its kinda fun. its an interesting conundrum because that pure spontaneous quality u get from my test swatches Cannot be emulated on#purpose. i can get close and loosen up. but inevitably unless i make all my normal drawings test swatches while colouring in other stuff#my normal drawings will never truly have this quality. which i dont mind! but i thought itd be funny to find a way to still make something#with this intangible test swatch quality since people like it a lot! and it does look neat#also each one was a specific painting session. some were smaller sessions with only a few colours used#and some were really long sessions! and of course u can see how much brown and black and beige i use#and u can spot the traces of rosie in the green and pink HJKSDAHJKDSl hes always here#very interesting thing to play around with! i'd like to do something like this again i think

I’ve been getting super into ink-drawing, and I’ve found that I utterly love it! The texture and the opaqueness of it, the ability to write and paint with one material, the excellent way it photographs… And the strength of this stuff is unbelievable! Every value you see on this page (Minus straight black) was made using only a little drop on the palette that I mixed with water. I utterly love it!
#my art#Illustration#ink drawing#india ink#inktober#character design#character illustration#I’ve been taking little note-card size swatches of paper and sending the illustrations to loved ones.#Ifs small but an unexpected gesture that I know will them smile.#I find that nice watercolor paper works well#though I recommend using the smooth side if you don’t want all the extra texture on lines you want to be smooth.#On watercolor paper it dries faster and it won’t wrinkle or buckle— plus the ink won’t chip if you lay it on really thick.

I GOT THE PRETTY PAINTS!!!
Kuretake granulating watercolour is finally available here,and since I don't have time right now to paint properly,I went and swatched them at least!!
It's true,the effect depends on the type of paper to some extent. But also.... they're not drastically different. Though I must say, I like the effect of 300gsm watercolor paper the best. It also depends on the water concentration and direction of brush stroke. Honestly? I love it

so i have the diamine inkvent calendar, and i usually wait until the end of the month to sit down and swatch them all. which i'm still going to do, but we also pulled out a few and played with them a little over the weekend, and um. glacier???
i feel like this star bright formula is going to be a Problem for me. at least i have some pens with removable feeds, because there's no way i'm not putting this in a pen.
(this has also made clear how much fine motor control i've lost in the last year, so my 2024 goals might include trying to regain that.)

Present loadout
This month I’m using I’m using a couple of iron gall inks from KWZ. I favor inks with permanence as I often horribly mistreat my notebooks. So I don’t want to lose a days thoughts, some critical insight from a divination, or my reading notes over an errant cup of tea. Additionally given that my current notebook has thick (200g/sm), absorbent, deckle edged paper reminiscent of old tomes and codices, a throwback like an iron gall ink felt appropriate.
Due to the way iron gall inks work over time the ink will oxidize (essentially rust inside of the paper) and the turquoise will dry to a deep blue black and the Aztec Gold will dry a to a darker brown (the image quality doesn’t do the Aztec gold justice and my particular bottle is several years old)
Pens: Moonman C1 Demonstrator with a Fude nib and a Monteverde Sequoia in a broad nib

You people over on Tumblr are probably lucky that you aren't, like, in the direct line of fire for our Watercolor Adventures, honestly, you'd be getting 20 posts a day "HEY so granulating pigments are pretty great, right?" with no elaboration on what those terms mean or why we're so enthusiastic about it and then the image would be, like. Three swatches of paint on a piece of paper.
