Fic Rec Friday

Thanks for tagging me @14carrotghoul! 🧡 Since I'm late already, I'm saving this for Friday and turning it back into a Fic Rec Friday post. The theme was:

So wanted to get some hiatus rec lists going and encourage some self promo in my friends so how about sharing your top fics no matter how big or small - give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits/Most kudos/Most comments/Most bookmarks /Most words/Least words

I like a chance to share some of my stuff, so here we go:

Most hits: Down by the Water, I Saw You - this is my top fic for many of the categories, which I think is the case for most people's long fics. I do love this a lot, it's quite an angsty (and smutty) story of Henry and Alex as exes, finding each other again and getting over past hurts to be together. There's holidays (vacations, sorry America) and beautiful scenery, teen romance and adult love, and the epilogue goes deep into their future, and it truly holds my heart.

Most kudos: Have One (On Me) - this is a ~10k one shot starring Henry as a bartender and Alex as a patron who's desperately into him. I really like the banter in this, and there's a good bit of stuff with June and Nora that I think is really fun. There's a (very fundamental) misunderstanding, sexy dancing and lots of pining too (always, always be pining.) It still surprises me that this has the most kudos out of all my fics, not because I don't like it, but simply because I often wonder at what special kind of alchemy has to happen to make something pull in the most kudos.

Most comments: if I'm being strict, it's Down by the Water again (bc multi chaps, etc), so instead I'll highlight this one: Tumbled Down and Tangled Up. It got the most overnight comments of all my fics and people seemed to really like it! It's a take on canon where Alex and Henry hook-up in the hospital closet scene from early on in the book. It was really fun to write, and I still like to go back and re-read from time to time.

Most bookmarks: Pumped - ok, this is actually third place, but i've already mentioned the top two. This is my climbing AU and it's the first thing I ever wrote for firstprince and the first thing I published on ao3. It holds a special place in my heart, just two silly boys, falling in love and not knowing how to talk to each other - until they do.

Most words: listen, the system's completely broken down at this point, categories don't make sense anymore. Happy NY is only third by word count, but I think it's my favourite of all my fics, so I wanted to put it in here! It's a New Year's Eve story, a missed connection with plenty of angst and definitely smut. It's a similar vibe to Down by the Water bc I wrote it in the middle of finishing it up, and I think of them as sister fics. It just gives me all the feels.

Least words: well, well, what is even left at this point? I only have 9 fics on ao3! I'm going with Don't Want to be a Fool for You which is my most recent fic and pretty short (for me) at around 6k. It's a roommates story where Henry pines desperately, and they are definitely shit at talking to each other, but then sex ensues.

I've had fun talking over all my fics, now time to get back to my wip! Happy reading!

Your codex/arcana posts are fascinating, even though most of it goes way over my head. Here's hoping these questions don't sound too stupid, lol

A lot of the SPN characters were represented in this mythology but Emperor Dean (and Empress Cas) seem to have been/still are the major focus. Do you think it's because the writers just chose to focus on their self-discovery journeys instead of, say, Sam's? Or are there bigger cosmological implications because of who these characters are?

And I'm also wondering about the complexity of the mythos in TW. There's so much symbolism everywhere. I know that TW is about Dean's arc. But in real life, does everyone theoretically have their own unique but still complex mythic journey?

Sam's you will find under tags like Aeon, along with Jack. That generational trauma of the akrida monster in your brain if you will also was just. a family. people. they were real. Both team free will, dean's family, and his parents, and their truth. And his Own. He speaks it. Fish through the tags and episode names and whatnot, people find sometimes it takes a few watches through by different paths.

We're actually rebuilding a. thing. That will answer Jojo's spiral post in the most comedic way. Because 1x6, 1x9, 1x13 is just 6 is 9 (+4=13) WE'RE FINE. Reflection is another one hang tight. lmfao. We gettin there.

Once I drop the Lateralus project it'll click, but give the promo post video a spin. Any part you don't get yet after that should be answered by the tags Fool, World (aka Universe in some decks) and the related personal resolution posts, and others through. Always skim tags to connect adjacent ideas.

Basically brb a few hours I'm like a squirrel digging up nuts i forgot where my backups are at to remaster it should help. I swear. I'm rebuilding the codex as fast as I can.

Say what you will about these G1 Final shows, but they’re always newsworthy. This was a great show to end the most amazing tournament in wrestling history; It delivered huge in terms of big matches and surprises. There was the usual array of solid multi man bouts, the highlight of which was KUSHIDA and Desperado’s spirited brawl to set up the Jr Title Match next month, but things really picked up with the Jr tag title match, which was excellent. This had great selling, psychology and storytelling, and a ton of drama. The story here was that Ricochet appeared to tweak his knee when landing a big dive, and it wasn’t obvious wether or not it was an actual injury or an elaborate sell. Ricochet went for a Benadryller on the floor, but missed and his knee hit the ring post and he made like the knee was bothering him all match, electing to not do his usual springboard spots. This meant that Taguchi had to go a lot of this on his own, and he was great throughout. As the Bucks worked over Taguchi 2-on-1, they went for the Meltzer Driver, but Ricochet caught Nick in a power bomb on the flip, but made like his knee was going to give, then Matt super kicked the back of the knee, taking Rico out again. Matt locked Ricochet in the dreaded Sharpshooter, but Ricochet fought to the ropes, then Nick came of the top with a Swanton onto Ricochet. Nick then put Taguchi in the Sharpshooter, and they teased a Ricochet tap out in an amazingly dramatic spot. However, Taguchi got free and broke it up to a big pop. Ricochet got the knees up on a More Bang For Your Buck, reaggravating the knee injury. The Jacksons tried an Indytaker, but Taguchi cut Nick off with a springboard Hip Attack. He then laid Matt out with Dodon’s Throne and put Nick in the Ankle Lock, allowing Ricochet to struggle to the top and hit the match winning Shooting Star Press at the 15:13 mark to win the belts. This was so great and told a really compelling story in that the champions were so obsessed with submitting Ricochet, they completely forgot about Taguchi, who they underestimated, and it was ultimately their downfall.

In a tremendous surprise, Katsuyori Shibata returned for the first time since suffering a career ending (self inflicted) head injury in this very building at Sakura Genesis. It was a really emotional moment as many in the audience were in tears. Shibata sat in his signature pose, cross legged in the ring, smiled and said “I’m alive! That is all!”, and left to a huge ovation. It was really good to see Shibata, and to see him doing well given the severity of his injury. After intermission, we got a vignette of someone brandishing a knife. I wonder who that is? War Machine retained the Heavyweight tag titles against Cody and Page in another great contest, which was way better than I thought it would be. The crowd started lukewarm to this, but got really into it by the end. War Machine are such a good team, and their highspots really get the crowd invested, especially Hanson, who hit an impressive handspring elbow and Senton Atomico. They had a really good back-and-forth match which looked like the Bullet Clubbers were going to take the belts, but instead the champions retained at 16:19 with Fall Out. In the post match, G.O.D. came out to issue a challenge, but then both teams were laid out by the returning Killer Elite Squad. The K.E.S. returning is very welcome as I can muster no enthusiasm for anther War Machine/G.O.D. encounter. 

ZSJ yet again submitted Tanahashi with the Manjigatame to win a very good six man, which was the best of all the multi-man’s on this show. The win cements Zack as Tana’s next I.C. Title challenger, likely in Hiroshima. Also, Elgin and Suzuki had a wild post match pull-apart brawl, so theres your next NEVER program. Hiromu submitted Gedo with a Triangle Choke to end a decent 10 minute 8 man tag, but the main story was between EVIL and Okada, which will probably be the main event in Kobe for the IWGP title. Okada sold his neck all match, as he has ever since losing to EVIL in Osaka, so thats the story going into that one. EVIL laid the champion out with Darkness Falls onto a stack of chairs after the match. Also of extreme importance, Daryl the cat has returned from the grave like Lazarus, so all can breathe easy now.

Then in the main event, Naito and Omega had an outstanding G1 final. This was incredible stuff that was even better than their ***** classic last year. Its fair to say that its nigh on impossible to keep track of all the amazing matches so far in 2017. This started with both being tentative, but got crazy after Naito hit a beautiful tope, which sent Kenny over the barricade and on to the announce table. Naito then hit a scary piledriver on the table, but he missed and Omega hit the edge of the table, then landed on his head on the barricade, which didn’t look fun to take. Naito hit a neck breaker on the apron, then a draping one off the top, before Kenny fought back, hitting a V-Trigger, the Terminator Con Hilo, and Aou Shoudou. Naito hit a Tornado DDT, then goes for a top rope Frankensteiner, but Omega battled out and dropped Naito face first onto the turnbuckles in a devastating spot.  From there he hits Snap Dragon and another V-Trigger as the sold out Kokugikan went crazy. Naito turns a power bomb into a DDT, hits another neck breaker, and scores a near fall with Gloria. Omega turns a Destino into a cradle Tombstone for a near fall, then goes up top, but is cut off by Naito. Another Frankensteiner attempt is foiled when Omega hits a DDT onto the ring post, which was devastating. Kenny tries a top rope power bomb, but Naito turns it into a huge Frankensteiner, as the place goes insane. Naito scores a great near fall with a reverse Frankensteiner off the top, then turns the clocks back and goes for the Stardust Press, the move he won the 2013 G1 with, but Omega moves. Kenny almost wins with the sit out Tiger Driver 91, then hits three stiff standing V-Trigger knees. Omega scores another close near fall with the deadlift Doctor Bomb, then goes for One Winged Angel, but Naito turns it into a reverse Frankensteiner, and both are down again. Naito hits Destino, but Omega kicks at 2.99 to a huge pop, then Kenny turns another Destino into Croyt’s Wrath for a near fall. Omega with the Rainmaker V-Trigger, then the stiffest V-Trigger I’ve ever seen, before going for OWA, which Naito again turns into Destino. They fight back, exchanging hard slaps, before Omega hits a V-Trigger, then comes off the ropes for another, but Naito hits a Kappo Kick. A Dragon Suplex gets a near fall for Naito, then hits another Destino for a great near fall. Naito then hits yet another Destino and wins the 27th annual G1 Climax at 34:35. This was just a brilliant display from both. Naito is then awarded the trophy and flag by Masahiro Chono, then cuts a promo putting over the fans, saying the win was for them. What a difference 4 years makes. This was my favourite G1 final ever, which is a fitting end to my favourite G1 tournament ever. God bless New Japan.

22 seconds Bell to Bell

So Fastlane was... about a mix bag but ultimately its the ending and climax that tells you whether or not it was worth it. Pretty much first half was good times. Then 22 seconds, yeah, 22 seconds. Matches varied from alright to good. Then just nose dive into crap. 

Cruiser Weight matches, both, were really good, just wished I could care about 205 live. I don’t so meh.  Swan and Tozawa out flippy shit  Dar and Kendric. Good fun.

Sami and Soma was a lot of fun, Sami never has a bad match and I really like Soma; best theme on Raw. The match wasn’t the HYPE but was good fun and got me excited for the rest of the night. So a really good opener... Should have stopped.

Tag team was fun, I live for Cory Gary’s absolute hatred of Enzo. Big Cass was strong but The Club were wasted again and kind of stole the win...  The club are both talented guys but they essentially are being jobbed out making them look weak and getting shitty wins like this... Still better than Smackdown in regards to the Tag Team Divison. I don’t know if they are just in a holding pattern until they decide what to do with the New Day

Sasha and Jax, not a squash match. Surprising, Jax threw Sasha around, Sasha threw everything at Jax and then surprise Roll up. Little sloppy but not a bad match. I like Jax and hope she keeps building up to something either at Wrestlemania or something. I was kind of hoping Sasha would do something kind of underhanded to start that heel turn they have been teasing during her injury but whatever. 

Rusev and Mahal, who were a team but now hate each other, demanded a matched. Kind of expected Fowley to come out and tell them to Wrassle it out. What we got was better. 

Mahal throws Rusev threw a barrier and demands a wrestler. Who comes out Cesaro! Que me loosing my shit. There are a couple of people who no matter what always have a match that doesn’t fail to entertain. Styles, Owens, Sami, and my favorite Cesaro. Cesaro works through his extensive roster of moves, and show his Swiss 619 which he has actually mastered. Cesaro faked a back injury during the match because Cesaro wouldn’t be having fun if he wasn’t handicapped in some way. Cesaro wins because Mahal saw Rusev got up and took his eyes off the birdie.  (Seriously like most of the Single matches I saw of Cesaro he’s hurt or some way not at 100%. Shamus and Cesaro feud where he kayfab broke his arm “I fought with only one arm before, let me fight!” Against the Big Show no less. Speaking of which...)

Rusev comes in after the pin and brutalizes Mahal. Then the Big Shows music hits. And out comes epic level Big Show, a good damn match between Big Show and Rusev. Big Show has been hitting the gym for his match against Shaq, which won’t happen. So I think they are setting up a feud with Rusev for Wrestlmania or just trying to reinvent the character. Either way a surprising fun match and Big Show was not the Big Slow tonight.

The New Day come out to shill merch and Ice Cream, remind us they were hosting Wrestlmania and that’s it... Big E wanted to sleep with everyone including the Ice Cream Bicycle they road in on, it was weird but I can dig it. It was the New Day, it got a laugh and was fun. And you know what... The New Day stole the fun when they left because it was all kind of down hill from here.

Second Cruiser Weight match. As I stated Great match. Incredible talent from both Neville, hill Neville the best Neville, and Gallagher. Crazy good match, that trademark Flippy shit and Neville retains. Again I wish I cared about 205LIVE but I can’t for some reason, even though its got more talent than the main raw roster, HEYOH!

Roman Reigns and  Braun Strowman. Okay Reigns had new gear on and honestly it was the same but different and honestly I dug it. The match was by the numbers, Reigns outlasted and out survived everything Strowman threw at him. It kind of was a suprise ending though. Strowman goes for a top rope , Yea the nearly 400 pounds 8 foot tall mofo threw him self from the Turn buckle at Reigns. Reigns moves out of the way and SPALT. Reign coves. So Reigns didn’t beat Strowman, Strowman decided he wanted to be Nevilel but forgot... Only Neville is forgotten by Gravity. So ignoring the bitching of smarks, It was a match with an ending that made Strowman taken ddown by his own hubris rather than his opponent which I can dig.

Then the... SIgh... Okay so at the end of the Raw after Elimination Chamber I had a story idea in mind. Bailey would beat Charlotte at FastLane, clean and then face a heel Sasha at Wrestlemania. Reason? Sasha doesn’t really work as a Face and Charlotte’s  whole gimmick is more or less to be a female version of her father kind of. The hot potato of the belt for the last six months has done nothing for the Raw’s Women division. Charlotte’s streak was impressive but also kind of lame considering its just a PPV streak, she just lost after the PPV so much that the Women’s Division was playing hot potato. So I am not sure why it was such a big deal she had a streak. She just lost on less on important nights. She wasn’t the undefeated champion, she was the lost a bunch when we were not charging for it champion. Bailey is also our plucky underdog. A clean win would help cement her as the champion and cement the belt as something other than a tacky gimmick.

So what happened, a match that was sadly not as good as the match were Bailey won the belt from Charlotte in the first place. Then it ends with Sasha interfering... After Babyface Bailey called out Charlotte’s reliance on Dana Brooke. So heel Charlotte loose from interference from two baby faces... What? Like seriously, What? Is Charlotte going to go Face? Why is Bailey being booked like a heel if she has face promos? Why didn’t the match end in a DQ? IS this some story line for fucking Foley to be fired to cover having to leave for his hip surgery? What did Charlotte, Sasha and Bailey do, or not do, to get this shit booking?

So after that confusion... Something happened that actually made that ending a better ending... KO and Goldberg... I look at my watch and to my suprise There is 10 minutes left of in the PPV. What crazy thing is going to happen, still could be something great right? Fuck my sense of wanting something entertaining and fun to go to work on. Five minutes of setup between Goldberg fucking entrance alone and KO face of he knows this is shit, 3 minutes of KO dancing around the outside of the ring before the match EVEN STARTS. 5 seconds for the Gift of Jericho, which the first official appearance in a month since the festival of friendship. THAN 22 FUCKING SECONDS!

THE PUT THE FUCKING BELT ON GOLDBERG? The only thing that makes this entire asinine story line worst is that Goldberg will face off against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania, where no doubt, Lesnar will win and then loose to Roman Reigns. New Era, Same Old Shit. This is on top of the garbage bag of dog shit that has been KO’s run as the Champion, where he has never won on his own, clean or other wise, someone always helped him. Because he’s the pudgy underdog or something... KO deserved better...

I am so fucking done, this is was honestly the first time I was actually hugely upset with watching a PPV.

I know a lot of long term smarks might have better idea but honestly Lesnar and Goldberg is a goddamn snore fest. Between both of them they have maybe have half the moves of KO alone, and KO jobs to fucking GOLDBERG?!? This is a nostalgia match only a handful of really boring people want. Remember the first time, because I watched it. Hell I watched Goldberg’s historic Streak, it was fucking boring. Every match was the same, Spear, Jackhammer, COVER. THE END. NO set up. Maybe it was something at the time a monster suddenly appearing and quietly going back into the night... To much has happened since then, also who cares now? I only care because I wasted two hours of my life for that ending? At least work the fucking handle don’t talk dirty to me than leave me with out a payoff.

I said earlier that KO never have a bad match, well... Goldberg sucks so badly that he is the exception that proves the rule.

I honestly was kind of excited for this match. KO has three fucking story lines going on. He met with Triple H before the Festival of Friendship to work something out. THEN Jericho promises that he has made arrangements for KO to win against Goldberg. Then KO get legit HEAT with everyone by tearing Jericho apart, on the promise of something from Triple H. This combined with the fact that KO usually has incredible PPVs, like every time there is a PPV no matter what, if KO was in it, there was going to be a OMG! moment and it made it worth it to watch his matches, every time, every single time.

So what is the big match end for FASTLANE tonight?  Spear, Jackhammer, COVER. THE END. After Jericho comes out and distracts KO... SO much build up, such great story plotting, an incredibly fucking talented Wrestler and you have him job out to a WCW freakshow you originally ran out of the company 15 years ago, and for what? A few seats at Wrestlemania 33? I mean Wrestlemania the greatest ride ever, or whatever we are suppose to call so Vince doesn’t feel old and senile LIKE HIS FUCKING BOOKING!

Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for? Okay so the only proper thing I’ve ever written is Chromaesthesia which I am sure everyone who follows me for kh has seen me promo over and over again, but in terms of wips/ideas i really want to do but lack the talent to do: kh, tf2, portal, undertale (that ones a crossover get your hands off it) There’s a oneshot based off of Bad Medicine that I’m not totally disappointed by though.
