one difference between the japanese and english versions of octopath 2 that i find interesting is that most NPCs in the japanese version have a "title" attached to their name... this ranges from things like their job ("silver merchant papp" and "newspaper reporter ori") to things other characters call them ("star" dolcinaea and "great noble alrond")

the localization's decision to not mirror this entirely was probably at least partially because of space limitations... the title used for papp would be really long in english (silver merchant) while just being 3 letters in japanese (銀商人) but it is pretty interesting to see where they decided to leave the titles in. i think the english rightfully thought a lot of these titles were redundant and over-explainy in most cases which i think does suit english better

in hikari's story specifically though you see titles change a LOT... they're a lot more important in his story compared to others' because of the emphasis on military rank we see throughout his story so it makes sense that english replicates a lot of these;

chapter 1: king jigo and general mugen

chapter 3: king mugen, general rou and captain ritsu

chapter 4: lady rai mei

chapter 5: general ritsu

one thing to note is that the localization never gives benkei and ageha their respective titles, 重臣 (juushin, chief vassal) and 兵長 (heichou, lance corporal/captain/idk man finding equivalents of military titles is hard) i also want to mention that rai mei's title in ch.4 literally means lady as in "lord/lady of a castle" (城主 joushu) which i feel like is lost a little in english

i do like this emphasis on titles in hikari's story especially because it makes their absence feel a lot more meaningful... ritsu especially changes titles in almost every appearance, going from 剣士 (kenshi, warrior) in ch.1 to 兵隊長 (heitaichou, captain) in ch.3 to eventually 将軍 (shougun, general) but he's missing a title during his childhood flashback in ch.3 and during the brief scene we see of him and mikka in ch.5. i know the latter is... most likely to not spoil the fact that he's been made a general in the very next scene but i do really really like that this is a scene we see of him with mikka... it's like titles don't matter when he's with her. mikka is also i think the only major NPC in hikari's story who doesn't ever get a title? even tsuki has one (従者 juusha, attendant)

similarly, rai mei doesn't have a title in her first appearance during ch.1 and the flashback in ch.4 but has the title "lady" when she's in castle mei, and then loses the title again when she comes for hikari's aid in ch.5. i like that for rai mei, her title represents her burden and is only present when she's following mugen's orders... just as ritsu, who follows mugen for most of the story, is entirely bound by his titles. these are mostly mirrored in the localization as well! (the only exception being ritsu's "warrior" title in ch.1 being missing)

kazan also follows a similar progression where he is known as tactician (軍師 gunshi) for the entire story until he reveals his true name oboro, which has no title attached

hikari, as a protagonist, never has a title attached to his name so it's interesting to see how he fits into all this... we see 3 kings throughout the course of the story but hikari doesn't get the title of king attached to his name and of course the scene we see him as king is when he removes his crown to speak frankly to his people... i think it's nice

Veilguard has a sort of "mass effect 2 meets oceans 11" vibe to it that would be fun but it doesn't. quite land.

First, Mass effect 2 structure. To quote shepard, the setup to the game is because "i'm going to need an army. Or a really good team". Its shep vs the an entire planet, but the alliance can't help, the council WONT help, and the guy bankrolling you does espionage shit, not combat. You gather a team of the best of the best at whatever tf they do because there will be no one else in the final battle. This is ALL you've got. You are assigning people jobs bc they are the only people HERE. But when veilguard hits the last gambit, you. Aren't alone. You've got half a dozen factions all itching to go. They ARE an army. So why does rook have to assign their handful of teammates to hold the hands of these other leaders?? Ireline and Strife do this shit all the time, why do they need someone else watching over their shoulders? The wardens are a mini army like evka says, adding someone new now is just going to throw them off. And im leaving EVERYONE downstairs but you still need one of my measly 6 squadmates to take point?? Really?? Rook's gonna DIE isabela, they have to FIST FIGHT A SUN GOD BELA

Second, the Oceans' 11-ness. You put together a team based off specific jobs you need done to handle this problem. Great, cool. But then. No one gets to do them. "Aw shit two magical gods. We need the best mage-assassin ever". Except you don't actually ask lucanis for his expertise or let him make a plan to kill the gods in their lairs, you just. Give him the knife and throw him at the gods. We could have taped the dagger to Manfred and thrown him at them. Rook even kills elgar'nan themself, Lucanis didn't get to do anything!! "We need a fade expert" for what?? Its not like emmrich is figuring out how to put the gods back in their prison or rebuilding the veil or trying to find solas. There are FOUR blighted dragons running around and taash only gets to lead the fight on one of them!

These guys are a great, really bad ass team of very competent people but why'd we hire them as if they'd be leading missions for us on their expertise if we. Weren't gonna do that

Binary Vampire prequel sorta?

Feat. some of my raw sketches lol. Idk first time posting here thats not some low quality shitpost ig

Since most ppl agree that Binary vampire parallels with actual revale it shouldn’t come as a surprise I made banri a vampire too. In my headcanon him and yuki were some kind of vampire duo who hunts together for food. Oh and they live together in some abandoned castle (from banri’s long dead family maybe). You could probably also put something about Yuki-vampire initially being isolated because of his vampirism and Banri-vampire opening him up a little on the idea of not having to spend eternity alone.

Then their notoriety for killing increased and got the attention of famed vampire hunter Kujo Takamasa while on his search for the First Vampire, Zero. Takamasa originally approached them peacefully and promises them safety if they join him in searching for Zero. Being a prideful vampire, Yuki doesn’t shy away from showing his disinterest and annoyance with the man. Takamasa is turned away from the castle and things were normal for a while. That is until villagers head to their castle shouting for the demons be killed. Shit hit the fan, they fend off for a while until someone shoots the chandelier it falls into the ground ala phantom of the opera (you could tell I love me my gothic fiction).

This almost falls into Yuki-vampire but Banri-vampire pushes him away just in time but ultimately gets him instead. Its basically the stagelight incident but make it

The chandelier causes a fire trapping the vampires as the villagers make their escape. Unbeknownst to anyone this was actually a plot by Takamasa to drive the duo away from their home and maybe consider joining his side. His plan is a fail though as Yuki-vampire is too distraught over banri vampire being unable to regenrate from underneath the chandelier and himself collapses from all the smoke (I am so sorry for making vampires really weak in this one).

Years, decades, pass and the old castle is now a ruin of its former glory. Sometime in the middle, yuki-vampire regained consciousness with banri-vampire nowhere to be seen. With his hesitance to approach humans, he is unable to regain his powers causing the wild beasts of the forest to rampage (and ig he adapts vampire vegetarianism?). It was then that a young orphan enters the ruins in search of a demon but instead finds a curled-up weakened man, finally kicking off the plot of binary vampire. (Sorry for the naked yuki it is not canon my own demons possessed me)

I haven’t read any fanfics or anything of that sort after the anni released (which reminds me I definitely should) so sorry if there were any similarities 🙇‍♀️

I lowkey wished they had separate names for the charas like they do with the kujis unless we are just supposed to call them “Orphan” and “Demon/Vampire”??

I also made sketches of other charas (mostly those related to revale) as au-compliant charas in the binary vampire sequel im cooking so look forward to that. Anyways thats it from me *bites and sucks ur blood*

A scrap

Nothing in his plans could have prepared him for taking an unusual liking to the boss's daughter. Much less having a one night stand with her. Seriously, where did it all go wrong? 

In which Overhaul is the one with longing eyes for a certain white haired female in the yakuza family, and the end result for such an attraction could only lead to trouble. He knew this. And yet, he acted on it anyway.

Overhaul is adopted into the family. He's reserved at first, talking kept to a minimum as he only has a close relationship with the boss.

His quirk shows promise, much like his intellect and leadership (?) Skills.

He doesn't spend too much time with the daughter, on the basis of not wanting to get too close. She knew partially of the kind of world her father took part in and Kai was wise to not give away too much if she became curious. It wasn't his place to say. Not to mention, he didn't have any particular interest in getting to know her beyond formalities, allowing himself brief greetings in passing. Small talk irritated him. Or was hard for him, he rather not dwell on it.

This wasn't to say he NEVER noticed her or wouldn't be in her company. Rarely did he do so willingly of course, not even when she asked him to play with her. Kai was above playing games and that seemed to put her in a grumpy mood, but she'd leave it alone usually. She knew better than to invite him if she had friends over as well, even if Kai would occasionally get spotted and she was asked if he was her brother or something.

On the rare occasion that he was left with no choice or simply gave in to what childish urges remained, Kai found himself in the company of Eiko. They got along decently enough he supposed, their conversations never lasting for more than a couple minutes. Still, she wasn't too pleased in being left with a boy close to her age who struggled to interact or was just dry. Did he not like to be touched? Eiko resigned to just playing on her own while Kai remained watchful. Admittedly it was weird at first, even a bit creepy, how he just stood about with his yellow eyes fixated on her.

Both came to the silent agreement that he was the bodyguard. Occasionally she might throw a ball his way to take him out of his reverie or simply make use of her quirk to compare. She was startled the first time he used it. Although, after giving it time, his ability didn't bother her at all. She remained weary of course but there was no true danger.

Upon her father's insistence, Kai would join them for family outings, although rare. Eiko would be lying if she said it didn't come off like her dad was trying to force a new brother on her. It was no secret how he felt about Kai, she noted it in the way he would mention him during meetigs she'd eavesdrop on. Or simply the adoring eyes the younger boy would give her dear dad. Which, quite honestly, was a sight in itself, given how Kai typically had such a cold stare, despite his age. To see him dawn such an expression was intriguing. And, she thought, it was much nicer to see.

It's not like she didn't know Kai was handsome. She'd long since seen his face before the mask become a permanent fixture. He'd grown up nicely too, his features sharp yet not disturbing. Those lashes made for some pretty eyes.

Of course she'd never say to his face he was handsome. Gosh no way.

He would never admit she was pretty. As if she'd or anyone else needed to be made aware that he was capable of saying such things without being prompted or acting on social cues. He certainly didn't need reminding of how her hair had grown long and wavy, how her body curved in places that were seldom noticeable before. Those crimson eyes that drew you in with one glance, the sort of eyes he didn't think he'd want on him, almost, if not more, than the boss's–

Oh. This was pathetic.

Such a cliche, falling for the daughter like this. Such a pain, letting his emotions get the better of him.

Unnecessary. Stupid.

Although somehow, he found himself thinking about her. Even when she wasn't around.

I did have an author's note but I don't wanna put all of that here again.

The basics are this:

I was inspired by season 4 and I wanted to make the story with Eri more "tragic" I suppose by making Overhaul her actual dad.

I wanted to give the mom a name because it was easier for me.

This literally is still in its draft stage. Therefore, it's not flowing as nicely as it should, and it gets repetitive with words.

Will I finish this? Probably not, but I'm letting it free.
