Before I got into star wars, I saw Darth Maul’s face everywhere so I assumed he was like a major character in these movies

Imagine my surprise watching TPM for the first time

I was like why is everyone obsessed with this guy, why is he everywhere!?!

He had a cool battle with awesome music then just fucking died! He said like 2 sentences the whole movie!!

Then I watched The Clone Wars and Rebels (I had already seen Rebels growing up but apparently I blocked maul from my memory) and now I find myself completely obsessed with him so….jokes on me I guess :)

Wandering through my local goodwill and found a random Darth Maul from the 90s

Today I literally thought to myself "huh, Darth Maul facing off against Sabine Wren would be awesome. I mean, she's got the Darksaber and Jedi training and she's Mandalorian, and he ruled the Mandalorians and is a psychopath who's weirdly respectful of women warriors" and then I remembered that @jessicas-pi 's Time Heals Verse exists and there's a very good chance we get an interaction between the two of them

Maul is a very uptight, strict, militant person. Everything is perfect. From the crease of his sheets to the loose thread on his robe. It’s all just so. Strictly controlled. He’s come through so much and is still surviving and has been entrusted with the care of someone, an apprentice, a partner, a friend… Maul must do this correctly. He must. He must not fail.

But… whoever this person is, it brings out the maybies in Maul. The glimpses of who he’d have been left alone and raised lovingly. Warm smiles that make his eyes crinkle. Galant gestures befitting a prince. Gentleness that is as heartbreaking as it is profound. He relaxes. He allows himself to lower that outer wall. He wants someone to come in even as much as he mistrusts his ability to be this close to anyone. Maul can’t help it. Just someone please attempt to know who he really is. Please. The loneliness is so gnawing sometimes that it hurts like a body wracked with starvation.

This is always when the inevitable mistake arrives, and every time, it hits him squarely in the gut. He’s never judgmental of the reaction to his mistake. No. The reaction is far and away justified. All his criticism and hate and vitriol is aimed inward.

And it’s harsh. Very harsh.

But on the outside, the surface is placid. Not a ripple.

But if the person he’s offended is perceptive enough… they can tell. They can hear there’s something… not right in Maul’s usual velvety tones. His gaze isn’t as steady and precise as usual. Something isn’t right.

But they can’t imagine what because to them, the problem was fleeting. A minute little moment of annoyance and it was over. He doesn’t even have to apologize, they knew it was an accident immediately and just stopped caring as quickly as they were angered.

But for Maul? He failed this person he so ardently reveres. And while instinct would have him hit the floor on his knees and wait for them to punish him, he knows they wouldn’t. Probably “knows” why in the wrong way, but knows that’s not going to happen. So who’s going to punish him? There must be a punishment. It’ll have to be himself, of course.

This week’s episode brought me more joy than you can possibly imagine

but actually, twilight of the apprentice truly has everything. stunning animation. (like the sith temple underground and the ceiling/ground above being cracked so it looks like stars are shining thru like are you joking). not one, not two, but THREE whole inquisitors. helicopter lightsaber shenanigans. chopper hijacking an inquisitor TIE and nearly committing crimes of friendly fire with it because he’s so damn trigger happy. dad kanan. ahsoka and kanan being friends and supporting each other. formerly darth, now just maul. maul and ezra shenanigans. maul trying to kidnap ezra as his own apprentice. “lady tano.” maul being SO confident about blinding kanan and then proceeding to get his ass kicked 2 seconds later by said blind man. darth “must be dramatic and extra at all times” vader making his entrance on top of a TIE fighter, cape billowing. ezra standing up to vader. (and losing his gunsaber in the process rip). chopper holding kanan’s hand 🥺 vader and ahsoka. VADER AND AHSOKA. the layering of matt lanter’s anakin voice with james’s vader voice. ezra unlocking the sith holocron. fuckin. kevin kiner going off with the score with where the sun sails and moon walks and it’s over now.

Enjoying the details and now Hondo and Maul

Considering their past, Hondo doesn't appear to want anything to do with Maul and thinks him to be crazy. He barely escapes with his life while Kenobi agrees to face him and Savage alone. He gratefully accepts the offer.

Now, one interesting thing might be if after this occurred, and when Maul took over Crimson Dawn, is if the timeline aligned just right, the Ohnaka Gang has to answer to him in some way, shape or form.

I imagine Crimson Dawn is very powerful, not to mention the Shadow Collective itself. The Hutt's fought back I believe, and did not join right away. Hondo's home planet, and I believe Florrum, is in Hutt space.

Maybe the Shadow Collective puts the pressure on? Not sure, but if Hondo were somehow involved -- lets humiliate him a little bit. After all, Grievous did. Maybe he's forced to pay tribute! Ha! Or, to do certain things, smuggle certain things, at the behest of Mr. Formerly Darth.

I think Hondo knows just what Maul is capable of and does not take him lightly. Chances are, he makes good use of his self-preservation tactics, including, but not limited to, his charm and charisma - which Maul is NOT buying. I don't study up on Maul like some of the girlies on here, but from what I gather, he does not entertain "insolence."

Good thing Hondo doesn't even know what it means. ;D

Anyway, I digress.

Maybe Maul summons him and makes him do a little dance. Maybe he makes him take his clothes off to embarrass him, but joke's on Maul because Hondo is into that shit.

Maybe Hondo gets turned on right in front of him. Ooo, maybe he sends everyone away and they have a private conversation.

Ahahaha, now my imagination is running wild.

Lest to say, Maul let's up on the Ohnaka Gang a little bit after that.

- Kanan could figure out when clones were about to defect, or when clones declared KIA had actually faked their death. It made him angry, because they shouldn’t get to live their lives while he suffers every day because of them.

- He doesn’t do anything about it though. He isn’t sure why.

- He meets Maul. And yes, he absolutely roasts the shit out of him.

Kanan: so you’re Darth Maul, hm?

Maul: formerly Darth, yes. And you’re one of the little children the empire gives lightsabers to now?

Kanan: Yeah, I guess. 😕

Ezra:… What is it? He can help me!

Kanan: I doubt that, but he’s just not what I was expecting.

Maul: Oh? And what were you expecting?

Kanan: I don’t know, something more? General Grievous was more intimidating than you!

Ezra: Who?

Maul, shrieking: W H O?????

- He also meets Rex. The fact that Rex, Gregor and Wolffe were just living and hanging out on some backwater planet while he went through a decade and a half of torture and suffering, because of their brothers, makes him furious.

- He doesn’t know how to articulate that though, so he nearly kills Rex until Ahsoka stops him and everyone thinks he’s anti clone ☹️

- Which like. He is, but not for the reasons they think.

- No one sees him without his helmet until well into “season 3”, and Ezra is the first to see his face and it goes like this:

Ezra: oh

Kanan:…. What?

Ezra: Nothing! You’re just… not what I was expecting, is all.

Kanan: what were you expecting?

Ezra: I don’t know, like cyborg eyes? Scars that make it hard for you to breathe? You’re just… A person!

Kanan: ??????
