La Final Four (degli esclusi) di Euro 2020

Anche i quarti di finale sono giunti al termine e se le quattro qualificate andranno a giocarci i due posti per la finalissima di Wembley, abbiamo le 4 sconfitte che formano la (poco) gloriosa Final Four degli esclusi di Euro 2020. Euro 2020, Final Four degli esclusi Lo sappiamo, nel calcio si vince e si perde. Delle quattro semifinaliste parleremo successivamente, ora concentriamoci su quelle 4 nazionali che si sono fermate ai quarti di finale, quelle squadre che non sono riuscite a passare il turno e che vanno a formare una sorta di finale a quattro delle squadre. La prima di cui andiamo a parlare è il Belgio. La nazionale dei Diavoli Rossi, purtroppo, ha deluso ancora. Una squadra piena di grandi campioni (difficile elencarli tutti) che ancora una volta si ferma sul più bello. Come ad Euro 2016, i quarti sono stati fatali e se prima sono stati Bale e compagni a dire no al Belgio, questa volta è stata la nostra nazionale con il punteggio di 2 a 1. La squadra di Martinez, soprattutto nel primo tempo, è sembrata impaurita e senza idee. Una paura che ha bloccato il gioco dei diavoli rossi regalando quindi il match agli uomini di Mancini che non si sono fatti pregare andando in doppio vantaggio prima con Barella e poi Insigne. Il rigore realizzato da Lukaku sembrava aver dato una sveglia ai suoi con un secondo tempo a ritmi molto più alti ma i veri pericoli per la porta difesa da Donnarumma sono stati veramente pochi (non senza qualche palpitazione, ovviamente). Quindi ora cosa succederà? Il ciclo (non) vincente del Belgio si ferma qui oppure c'è l'ultima speranza Mondiali in Qatar? Il CT Martinez ha davanti a sé una scelta molto difficile ovvero se continuare con questo gruppo oppure iniziare a gettare le basi per una nuova generazione di diavoli rossi. Anche qui si inizia malissimo con un gol subito dopo nemmeno 10 minuti di gioco poi ancora una volta il gruppo e la forza di volontà della Svizzera hanno rimesso la partita sui binari del pareggio. Stavolta, però, il destino non ha sorriso agli uomini di Petkovic che ai rigori non sono perfetti come agli ottavi e la Spagna vola tra le migliori quattro. La sconfitta, però, non fa male agli svizzeri autori di un grandissimo europeo. Repubblica Ceca, quando Schick non basta Che dire invece della Repubblica Ceca? Di negativo, assolutamente nulla! AC Milan 0-0 Juventus [Milan won 3-2 on penalties (Champions League Final 2002/03)]

Italy had three semi-final representatives in the 2002/03 edition of the Champions League and AC Milan as well as Juventus progressed to the final, defeating city rivals Inter and Spanish giants Real Madrid respectively.

The Bianconeri were missing star midfield Pavel Nedved due to suspension and the Rossoneri thought they had taken an early lead but Andriy Shevchenko’s early goal was correctly disallowed for offside. It eventually turned out to be a dour game that had to be settled on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.

Serginho and Alessandro Nesta scored for Milan while Alessandro Birindelli was the only one that netted for Juve prior to each team taking their fifth kick each. Alessandro Del Piero beat Dida to keep his team alive but Shevchenko was finally able to be the hero by scoring the final penalty.

The Journey of Becoming an AC Milan Fanatic

As a little kid, we all didn’t know what was the beautiful game of football (or soccer how they pronounce in the USA). The beautiful game that brought everyone together for 90+ minutes to fully have our eyes focus on the screen looking at the players, the passionate supporters, fouls & arguments. But for me that didn’t caught my attention. What caught the attention of a 3-year-old me was a player and that players name was Paolo Maldini. My eyes just glisten as I saw him on the pitch as I didn’t know what to say or do, all I did was standing in front of the television very close watching him play. As my step dad carried me to the couch sat me next to him and told me “finally this has caught your attention”. As I shook my head “yes”. He told me the history of the sport. I wouldn’t listen all I could do is point at the television. He looks and points at the Television and tells me with a passion “That’s AC Milan, The Rossoneri, II Diavolo” but calms down and tells me that’s not his team, but it could be mine.

 As I started watching more Milan games I realized that I didn’t just watch the games, I started gaining the love and the full passion for the team. The love of the red and black color, the passion of their playing style led by the coaching of Fabio Capello. Giving Milan their unbeaten run through 1992-1994 winning 3 Serie A with a 58-match unbeaten run, a back to back UEFA Champions League final appearances. What I remember the most was when Milan went on to beat Barcelona 4-0 at the 1994 UEFA Champions League final. By 2001 Carlo Ancelotti was appointed the new Coach of the Rossoneri, I was happy with the decision and looking forward what he could do with one of the best clubs in the world. In 2003, they did manage to win their first Serie A for five seasons loving their display of offensive and defense. 2003 was a good year for Milan beating Juventus. Winning their sixth Champions League. But also, there was bad times.

 In 2006, the Calciopoli scandal, the Italian police implicated Serie A champions Juventus and other major teams Fiorentina, Lazio and AC Milan. As I heard about Milan being involved in the scandal the first word that came to my mind was disappointment as I always thought that my favorite team was always about fighting till the end getting for the team and for the supporters. But all that swept away the false results and only for the money but not for the fans. The Italian Football Federation punished Milan by deducting 15 points and banned them for the 2006-07 Champions League. They did deserve that punishment in my opinion. It took me a while to get over what they did. By 2010-11 I was once again a happy Milan fan with the help of strong boasting team player as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robinho and Alexandre Pato. Recapturing the Scudeto their first title since the 2003-04 season.

 After all the glory Milan had for the years. They have fallen out as giants of Serie A finishing between 9th and 10th place the following years. I’ll always be proud to be a Rossoneri, from the years having great players like Maldini, Nesta, Cafu, Kaka, Inzaghi, Gattuso, Pirlo and Shevchenko. As of right I don’t know what the future holds for Milan but what I do know that us the supporters will never give up the red and black devils and that next season will hopefully be the season that the Rossoneri will rise up as once again being the Italian giants that once we were before FORZA MILAN.
